On June 14, 2023, could be celebrated the 85-th anniversary of the founder of the journal “Applied Nonlinear Dynamics”, the Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, the laureate of the Presidential Prize in Education, the Rector of Saratov University (1994–2003), the head of the department electronics, oscillations and waves (1981–2020) Dmitry Ivanovich Trubetskov. Published reflections of colleagues and friends of D. I. Trubetskov reveal his contribution to the development of science, education and the significance of his multifaceted personality for the history of Saratov University.

Joubert syndrome (JS) is a recessive disorder that is characterized by midbrain-hindbrain malformation and shows the “molar tooth sign” on magnetic resonance imaging. Mutations in 40 genes, including Abelson helper integration site 1 ( AHI1 ), inositol polyphosphate-5-phosphatase ( INPP5E ), coiled-coil and c2 domain-containing protein 2A ( CC2D2A ), and ARL2-like protein 1 ( ARL13B ), can cause JS. Classic JS is a part of a group of diseases associated with JS, and its manifestations include various neurological signs such as skeletal abnormalities, ocular coloboma, renal disease, and hepatic fibrosis. Here, we present a proband with the molar tooth sign, ataxia, and developmental and psychomotor delays in a Dagestan family from Russia. Molecular genetic testing revealed two novel heterozygous variants, c.2924G>A (p.Arg975His) in exon 28 and c.1241C>G (p.Pro414Arg) in exon 12 of the transmembrane protein 67 ( TMEM67 ) gene. These TMEM67 gene variants significantly affected the development of JS type 6. This case highlights the importance of whole exome sequencing for a proper clinical diagnosis of children with complex motor and psycho-language delays. This case also expands the clinical phenotype and genotype of TMEM67 -associated diseases.

Summary: The presence of efficient energy storage and conversion technologies is essential for the future energy infrastructure. Here, we describe crafting a heterostructure composed of a suitably interlinked CeO2 and polycrystalline Bi2O3 dopant prepared on a reduced graphene oxide (Ce_Bi2O3@rGO) surface. This material exhibits exceptional electrocatalytic hydrogen and oxygen evolution reaction in alkaline water (pH∼14.0) to trigger the full water-splitting cycle as a Janus catalyst. Shear-induced conformational changes of von Willebrand factor (VWF) play an important role in platelet activation. A novel approach describing VWF unfolding on the platelet surface under dynamic shear stress is proposed. Cumulative effect of dynamic shear on platelet activation via conformational changes of VWF is analysed. The critical condition of shear-induced platelet activation is formulated. The explicit expression for the threshold value of cumulative shear stress as a function of VWF multimer size is derived. The results open novel prospects for pharmacological regulation of shear-induced platelet activation through control of VWF multimers size distribution.

An analysis is made of heat and mass transfer in a three dimensional flow between two vertical porous plates through a porous medium. Analytical solutions have been obtained using the perturbation technique. The effect of non-dimensional parameters on velocity, temperature and concentration field are shown graphically. It is seen that the main flow velocity decreases with an increase in both the radiation parameter and Schmidt number but increases with an increase in the thermal Grashoff number, mass Grashoff number as well as the permeability parameter. Variations of the shear stress at the left plate are given in a tabular form. It is seen that the shear stress due to the primary flow at the left plate increases with an increase in the Reynolds number but decrease with an increase in the Schmidt number. With the increase of both the radiation parameter and Reynolds number the temperature decreases. The concentration field also decreases with an increase of the Schmidt number. Variations of mass flux at the left plate are given in tabular form. It is seen that the mass flux at the left plate increases with increase in both Schmidt number or Reynolds number.

In this paper, heat transfer in flow between two horizontal parallel porous plates through a porous medium when the upper plate oscillates in its own plane has been analyzed taking into account the effect of viscous dissipation. An increment in the Prandtl number or Reynolds number results in an increment of the temperature profile. With an increase in viscous dissipative heat the temperature distribution decreases.

Plasma fibronectin is a high molecular weight adhesive glycoprotein. There are two types of fibronectin: plasma (soluble) and cellular derived (insoluble). Electron microscopy revealed two types of structural organization of fibronectin: compact and expanded. In solution, fibronectin has a compact conformation, and after binding to certain substrates (collagen, fibrin, heparin), it is expanded. Plasma fibronectin is one of the main opsonins of blood plasma in relation to the “targets” of phagocytosis of a predominantly non-bacterial nature, as well as to some types of bacteria. For the treatment of septic processes, as well as respiratory distress syndrome of adults with severe fibronectin deficiency, plasma cryoprecipitate is used – a donor plasma preparation containing a large amount of plasma fibronectin (more than 2 mg/ml). It was proposed to replenish the level of fibronectin in patients with sepsis and other conditions that cause plasma fibronectin deficiency with the help of donor freshly frozen plasma. Transfusion of large volumes of freshly frozen plasma (up to 1000–1500 ml) to patients effectively eliminates the deficiency of plasma fibronectin. The concentration of plasma fibronectin in the blood significantly decreases after the addition of severe infectious processes to hematological diseases, as well as acute DIC syndrome. Extracorporeal methods of blood purification – selective plasmapheresis – have been developed to correct immunocomplex and fibronectin-complex pathology. Two variants of selective plasmapheresis have been proposed: the method of heparinocryoprecipitation of plasma proteins and the method of heparinocryofractionation. In 1987, a plasma heparin precipitate was proposed as a source of fibronectin for the treatment of patients with trophic skin lesions. In 1992, a new method was proposed for obtaining blood preparations with a high concentration of plasma fibronectin from patients themselves (heparin cryofractionation). Autofibronectin preparations obtained by such methods are effective in the local treatment of trophic ulcers in 90–93% of cases. The proposed drugs are safe against infection of patients with infectious diseases transmitted through the blood.

ABSTRACT: Background: Herpes simplex encephalitis (HSE), caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV) is the most common cause of sporadic encephalitis that often presents as an emergency case of acute or sub-acute nature associated with poor prognosis. Early suspicion and prompt diagnostic testing with adequate antiviral therapy can only reduce morbidity and mortality associated with the disease. This study aims to evaluate the role of serological and molecular diagnosis of encephalitis caused by HSV 1 and 2 for timely detection of the disease. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Department of Microbiology, Rajendra Institute of Medical Science, Ranchi, from April 2021 to September 2022. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples were collected and processed for the detection of HSV DNA by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) as well as serum samples were collected from those patients and were processed for the detection of IgM by ELISA. Results: A total of 188 CSF samples were collected, out of which 4 HSV-1 and 1 HSV-2 samples were found to be positive by conventional PCR. 36 samples were positive for HSV-1 and 2 IgM ELISA. 26.06% of cases belonged to patients between 0 and 10 years of age followed by 17.06% in 51-60 years age groups. Conclusion: PCR is the optimal diagnostic test, but the sample must be collected in the early stages of the disease. Diagnosis by PCR assay of CSF samples targeting HSV DNA is the best confirmatory test at hand for early detection and also helps in estimating the incidence of herpes simplex virus encephalitis. In this paper, we adopt a fixed point approach towards a problem of finding fuzzy distance between two subsets of a fuzzy metric space. This is accomplished simultaneously by determining two different pairs of points which are obtained by finding an optimal approximate solution of a coupled fixed point equation for an appropriate coupled contractive operator. By its nature, the problem is a global optimization problem. The coupled contraction defined here has certain properties suitable for applications to the optimization problem considered in this paper. The main result is illustrated with an example. By applications of the main theorem, a new coupled fixed point result is derived in fuzzy metric space and a new coupled proximity point result is obtained in metric spaces. Background Early neurological deterioration (END) is a common occurrence in ischemic stroke and contributes significantly to poor outcomes. Although multiple factors that predict END have already been identified, the role of fibrinogen – a key component of the coagulation pathway, is controversial. Objective To assess the role of fibrinogen in predicting END and poor hospital outcome in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Design Single-centre prospective observational study. Methods 141 patients with acute ischemic stroke were analyzed in this prospective observational study from a single tertiary-care hospital in East India. END was defined as a worsening of ≥2 points on the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) within 7 days of admission. A score of 3-5 on the Modified Rankin Scale (mRS), a stroke recurrence event or death during hospital stay was considered poor hospital outcome. We performed univariate analysis using age, sex, body-mass index (BMI), hypertension, diabetes, NIHSS scores, stroke etiology, blood glucose and lipid parameters and plasma fibrinogen to develop a logistic regression model to establish the independent predictors of END and poor outcome. Results Age (Odds Ratio (OR) 1.034 [95% CI 1.001-1.069], P = .046), NIHSS score at admission (OR 1.152 [95% CI 1.070-1.240], P < .001) and fibrinogen (OR 1.011 [95%CI 1.006-1.015], P < .001) were independent predictors of END in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Factors independently associated with poor outcome were NIHSS score at admission (OR 1.257 [95% CI 1.150-1.357], P < .001), fasting plasma glucose (OR 1.007 [95% CI 1.001-1.013], P = .020), and fibrinogen [OR 1.004 [95% CI 1.000-1.007], P = .038). Conclusion The significant role of fibrinogen in determining neurological worsening and subsequent poor outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke may help in early prognostication and guided therapeutic interventions.

Atraumatic subdural hematoma (SDH) is a rare occurrence in neurosurgery practice. Such a case in pregnancy is also very rare. Here, we present a case of 33 weeks pregnant female presented with SDH which was operated and there was recurrence of similar hematoma in the same patient in the postpartum period. The primary cause in both the hematomas was unknown, but a pregnancy related or other risk factors may be responsible for causation of the hematomas in this case.
