International migration implies the coexistence of different ethnic and cultural groups in the receiving country. The refugee crisis of 2015 has resulted in critical levels of opinion polarization on the question of whether to welcome migrants, causing clashes in receiving countries. This scenario emphasizes the need to better understand the dynamics of mutual adaptation between locals and migrants, and the conditions that favor successful integration. Agent-based simulations can help achieve this goal. In this work, we introduce our model MigrAgent and our preliminary results. The model synthesizes the dynamics of migration intake and post-migration adaptation. It explores the different acculturation outcomes that can emerge from the mutual adaptation of a migrant population and a local population depending on their degree of tolerance. With parameter sweeping, we detect how different acculturation strategies can coexist in a society and in different degrees among various subgroups. The results show higher polarization effects between a local population and a migrant population for fast intake conditions. When migrant intake is slow, transitory conditions between acculturation outcomes emerge for subgroups, e.g., from assimilation to integration for liberal migrants and from marginalization to separation for conservative migrants. Relative group sizes due to speed of intake cause counterintuitive scenarios, such as the separation of liberal locals. We qualitatively compare the processes of our model with the German portion sample of the survey Causes and Consequences of Socio-Cultural Integration Processes among New Immigrants in Europe (SCIP), finding preliminary confirmation of our assumptions and results., Comment: 24 pages, plus supplemental material, 11 figures

Leseprobe ----- Zusammenfassung Die Entwicklung, welche Kinder in ihren ersten drei Lebensjahren vollziehen, ist enorm. Neben dem rasanten Gewinn an kognitiven und sozio-emotionalen Fahigkeiten, erlernen Kinder auch sich selbst fortzubewegen oder sprachlich mitzuteilen. Mit der Aufgabe diesen unterschiedlichen Fahigkeiten und damit Bedurfnissen innerhalb einer Gruppe gerecht zu werden, sind padagogische Fachkrafte in Kinderkrippen taglich konfrontiert. Der Beitrag geht der Frage nach, ob die Altersmischung innerhalb der Krippengruppe (definiert als gleichzeitige Betreuung von Kindern mehrerer Jahrgange mit einem Altersabstand von mindestens 12 Monaten) als Strukturmerkmal negative Zusammenhange mit der beobachteten Prozessqualitat aufweist. Weiter steht die Frage im Fokus, ob spezifische Anpassungen an die vorherrschende Altersmischung zu einer Abschwachung des vermuteten negativen Effekts fuhren konnen. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass mit zunehmender Altersspanne eine geringere Qualitat zu verzeichnen ist. Ebenfalls zeigen sich moderierende Effekte von Anpassungsstrategien wie der Austausch mit Kolleginnen und Kollegen oder der Besuch von spezifischen Fortbildungen. Die Ergebnisse werden in den Forschungsstand eingebettet, diskutiert und praktische Implikationen abgeleitet. Educators in creches are confronted daily with the task to respond to these different capacities and needs within a group. This article examines whether the age-mix within the creche group (defined as the simultaneous care of children of different age groups with an age gap of at least 12 months), as a structural feature, is negatively associated with the observed process quality. Furthermore, the article focusses on the question if specific adjustments to the prevalent age-mix can reduce the presumed negative effect. The results show that a higher age range is connected to lower process quality. In addition, moderation effects of adjustment strategies such as the exchange with colleagues or the attendance to specific advanced training can also be observed. The results are embedded in the state of research, discussed and practical implications are derived. Digital child and youth research is often conducted in schools involving minors. Corresponding research designs raise two related sets of problems: Ethical issues with regard to working with vulnerable groups like children and adolescents and access to these groups. The latter pertains to the concept of gatekeeping which is an ethical issue in and of itself if certain groups or areas of research are systematically excluded from empirical research and, consequently, from the resulting benefits. Thus, our study examines how perceived ethical challenges influence gatekeepers’ decisions to grant or deny access to investigate a potentially problematic topic: pupils’ group communication. We addressed this research question empirically via semi-structured in-depth interviews with eight educational gatekeepers in Germany inquiring their attitudes on research in schools in general and on the specific topic of pupils’ group communication via instant messaging as an exemplar of digital child and youth research. Approaching the question from two perspectives (procedural ethics and ethics in practice), we identified hierarchical power structures within multiple levels of gatekeeping and revealed rationales to deny access based on ethical considerations with regard to the given scenario of pupils’ group communication.

International journal for research in vocational education and training 9 (2022) 2, S. 216-238, Context: Scaffolding is a form of process-adaptive learning support that is relevant in numerous contexts, including informal learning, workplace learning as well as school teaching. While scaffolding can be well conceptualised for individual learning situations (especially for tutoring situations), there is a difficulty in measuring process adaptivity in heterogeneous learning groups, such as school classes. Approach: In this paper, we develop a measurement method that targets the deep structure of teaching and learning in whole class settings. Processes of shared knowledge constructions are taken into account, since whole-class-scaffolding (WCS) means to shape and develop common or joint knowledge spaces rather than to scaffold a multitude of individual construction processes at the same time. To achieve a coding procedure for WCS interactions, we integrate scaffolding principles and principles of dialogic teaching and explicated a set of rules that can be correlated to the quality of WCS-episodes rated on distinct Likert scales. Results: The measurement method developed in the paper provides a solution to the problem of how to measure process-adaptive learning support that is not only related to individual learners, but is directed at a heterogeneous group of learners in which different support needs may be present simultaneously. The coding procedure systematically links scaffolding principles and principles of dialogic teaching and enables us to capture the dynamics of teaching and learning processes in larger group settings. In this respect, concepts such as joint- and common space, representing entities to which WCS refers, are operationalised. Conclusions: When methods for measuring the dynamics of teaching and learning processes are available, research on instructional support is no longer limited to global ratings of whole learning units. Furthermore, the codings allow for a more fine-grained analysis of trajectories of scaffolding interactions. Such an analysis reveals information about local specifics of WCS that can explain further learning differences between students and that can be used to derive implications for effective instructional techniques. Der vorliegende Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit der Instrumentalisierung von Emotionen als Strategie rechtspopulistischer Politik und zieht daraus Schlüsse für die politische Bildung. Die negative Bewertung von Emotionen oder deren Verdrängung aus dem politischen Diskurs bilden eine Leerstelle im Politischen. Auf Basis der Theorie der Intergruppen-Emotionen zeigt der Beitrag die Funktionen von Emotionen für Identitätsstiftung und Gruppenbildung und die Risiken für eine pluralistische Gesellschaft auf. Der Beitrag plädiert für eine stärkere Thematisierung und kritische Reflexion von Emotionen in der politischen Bildung und stellt Perspektiven für eine emotionssensible politische Bildung dar. (DIPF/Orig.), This article addresses the instrumentalization of emotions as a strategy of right-wing populist politics and draws conclusions concerning civic education. The negative evaluation of emotions or their suppression from the political discourse forms a void in the political discourse. Based on the intergroup-emotions-theory the article shows the functions of emotions for identity building and group formation and the risks for a pluralistic society. The article argues for a stronger thematization and critical reflection of emotions in civic education and outlines perspectives for an emotion-sensitive civic education. (DIPF/Orig.)

Die Bachelorarbeit beschäftigt sich mit den Auswirkungen der sozialen Einschränkung aufgrund des Lockdowns im Frühjahr 2020 in der Covid-19 Pandemie. Da die Kindergar-tengruppe eine Dynamik aus einer Wechselwirkung aus dem Geschehen in der Gruppe und des Empfindens jedes Einzelnen in der Gruppe einhergeht, gehört die elementarpä-dagogische Einrichtung für die Kinder zu der wichtigsten sozialen Instanz. In dieser kön-nen sie mit ihren Spielgefährten auf kindgerechte Art und Weise lernen und spielen. Die Umwandlung des Normalbetriebs auf Notbetrieb verhinderte, dass die Kinder den Kinder-garten regelmäßig besuchen durften. Notbetrieb hieß im Lockdown, dass nur Kinder von systemrelevanten berufstätigen Eltern im Kindergarten betreut wurden. Für einige Kinder war diese Situation nicht einfach, weil sie über mehrere Wochen, teils sogar Monate von der Kindergartenroutine und ihren Freunden fernblieben. Zu diesen schwierigen Umstän-den kam auch durch die Einschränkung der sozialen Kontakte, dass die Kinder Familien-angehörige ebenso über längere Zeit nicht sahen. Die tiefenhermeneutische Auswertung narrativer Interviews mehrerer Elementarpädagog*innen sollen in einem Vergleich Auf-schluss darüber geben, wie Elementarpädagog*innen die Kinder in der Kindergartengrup-pe während und nach dem ersten Lockdown im März 2020, vor allem aber nach der langen sozialen Einschränkung, in der elementarpädagogische Einrichtung wahrgenommen ha-ben. The bachelor thesis deals with the effects of social restrictions due to the lockdown in spring 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. As the kindergarden group is a dynamic of interaction between what happens in the group and how each individual feels in the group, the elementary educational institution is one of the most important social instances for chil-dren. There they can learn and play with their playmates in a child-friendly way. The trans-formation from normal usual circumstances to an emergency operation to emergency op-eration to care for the children of parents in system-relevant occupational groups was not easy for some children because they stayed away from the kindergarten routine for several weeks, sometimes even months, and hardly saw their friends, but also close family mem-bers, for a long time, if at all. The in-depth hermeneutic analysis of narrative interviews of several elementary teachers will provide a comparison of how elementary teachers per-ceived the children in the kindergarten group during and after the first lockdown in March 2020, but especially after the long social restriction, in the elementary educational institu-tion.

Norges musikkhøgskole. Masteroppgave. Musikkterapi Sammendrag - Denne kvalitative intervjustudien tar utgangspunkt i opplevelsene til en gruppe på seks voksne som har vært pasienter ved Medikamentfritt behandlingstilbud ved Vegsund DPS. De har deltatt i gruppemusikkterapi ukentlig gjennom åtte uker, som ledd i et intensivt, tverrfaglig behandlingsopphold. Tre deltakere hadde også individuelle musikkterapitimer. Ingen av deltakerne hadde psykose, aktiv rusproblematikk eller andre alvorlige tilstander definert ved eksklusjonskriteriene for behandlingstilbudet. Diagnoser er ellers ikke vektlagt i denne studien, som har et ressurs- og opplevelsesorientert recoveryfokus. Jeg har søkt å finne ut hvilke opplevelser deltakerne har tatt med seg fra musikkterapien, underveis og i ettertid. Semistrukturerte individuelle intervjuer ble gjennomført ca. åtte uker etter utskrivelse. Stikkordslapper der deltakerne reflekterte over opplevelser ble brukt underveis i gruppemusikkterapien. Tematisk analyse ble benyttet på intervjuene. Alle deltakerne opplevde musikkterapien som relevant og positiv. De fleste gav uttrykk for at de ønsket mer musikkterapi. Alle beskrev positive opplevelser i musikkterapien knyttet til mestring og utfordringer. Dette anses som studiens hovedfunn. Et samspill av faktorer i musikkterapien har muliggjort en positiv endring hos den enkelte. Dette samspillet søker jeg å synliggjøre og teoretisere i en modell jeg har gitt arbeidstittelen «mestringens tilblivelse». Egenskaper ved musikkterapien sees i sammenheng med endringer eller begivenheter i flere av personenes liv etter utskrivelse, som større lekenhet og frimodighet, ny/fornyet musikkinteresse eller musikkhobby, anskaffelse av instrument, ny selvinnsikt og bruk av erfaringer/musikk til egen oppbyggelse i hverdagen. They have participated in weekly group music therapy sessions over a period of eight weeks. This has been part of an intensive, interdisciplinary treatment program. Three of the participants also participated in individual music therapy sessions. None of the participants suffered from psychosis, substance abuse or other serious mental conditions defined by the exclusion criteria of the treatment program. Diagnoses are not viewed as important in this resource-, experience- and recovery-oriented study. I have sought to investigate the participants’ experiences from music therapy during and after treatment was ended, and which consequences they may have found music therapy to have had in the aftermath. Semi-structured individual interviews were performed approximately eight weeks after discharge from treatment. Keyword notes wherein participants made notes of their experiences were used along the way in group music therapy. Thematic analysis was used on the interviews. All of the participants found music therapy relevant and positive, and the majority wished for more in some way or other. Everybody described positive experiences in music therapy connected to mastery (self-efficacy) and challenge. This is considered the main findings of the study. A positive change in the individual has been made possible by an interaction of various factors. This interaction I seek to therorize in a model. Properties of music therapy are seen in connection with change or events in the lives of multiple participants after discharge. These changes are increased playfulness and boldness, renewed interest in music or a musical hobby, the procurement of an instrument, new insight and the use of experience/music in everyday life. Hintergrund: Die Arbeit mit Gruppen stellt ein ergotherapeutisches Betätigungsfeld dar, welches Kindern und Jugendlichen Gruppenerfahrungen in einem professionellen Umfeld ermöglicht. Neben sozio-emotionalen, motorischen und kognitiven Kompetenzen werden auch Alltagsfertigkeiten gefördert. Für die Gestaltung von Gruppenangeboten ist nicht nur theoretisches Grundlagenwissen wichtig, auch konkrete Strategien können hilfreich sein. Dahingehend können Ergotherapeut*innen von der Expertise erfahrener Kolleg*innen profitieren. Ziel: Ziel der Arbeit ist es, Erfahrungen aus der Praxis und daraus abgeleitete Empfehlungen für die erfolgreiche Planung und Umsetzung ergotherapeutischer Gruppen für Kinder und Jugendliche darzustellen. Methodik: Im Zuge einer qualitativen Untersuchung wurden vier Expert*inneninterviews mit freiberuflich tätigen Ergotherapeut*innen geführt, welche ergotherapeutische Gruppen für Kinder und Jugendliche anbieten. Ergebnisse: Ausgehend von der Gegenüberstellung der Ergebnisse aus Empirie und Literatur wurden Empfehlungen für zentrale Aspekte der Gestaltung abgeleitet. Wesentlich sind demnach die Erstellung eines Grobkonzepts und die detaillierte Planung einzelner Gruppeneinheiten basierend auf der fortlaufenden Evaluierung. Dennoch sind Flexibilität und die rasche Adaptierung geplanter Inhalte nötig, um klient*innenzentrierte Therapie anzubieten. Der Einsatz strukturgebender Maßnahmen und der Aufbau eines Zusammengehörigkeitsgefühls innerhalb der Gruppe sind empfehlenswert. Eine humorvolle und ressourcenorientierte Haltung der Gruppenleitung sowie eine enge Zusammenarbeit mit den Eltern unterstützen den Therapieerfolg. Conclusio: Die abgeleiteten Empfehlungen können Ergotherapeut*innen bei der Planung und Durchführung von Gruppenangeboten unterstützen. Die Formulierung konkreterer Empfehlungen für themen- oder altersspezifische Gruppenangebote erfordert jedoch weiterführende Forschung. Background: Working with groups is a field within occupational therapy which enables children and adolescents to experience groups in a professional environment. It promotes social, motor and cognitive competences as well as everyday life skills. Occupational therapists not only need theoretical knowledge to organize groups they can also benefit from knowledge of experienced colleagues concerning detailed strategies. Aim: The aim of this research is to present practical experiences and recommendations for successful planning and implementation of occupational therapy groups for children and adolescents. Method: For this qualitative study four expert interviews were conducted. The interviewees were freelance occupational therapists which offer occupational therapy groups for children and adolescents. Results: Based on the comparison of results from the empirical study and the literature, recommendations for central aspects of designing groups were derived. According to these recommendations, preparation of an outline concept and detailed planning of individual group units based on evaluation are essential. Nevertheless, flexibility and quick adaptation of planned contents are necessary in order to ensure client-centred therapy. The use of structuring measures and building a sense of belonging within the group are recommended. A humorous and resource-oriented attitude of the group leader as well as close cooperation with the parents support the therapeutic success. Conclusion: The developed recommendations can support occupational therapists in the planning and implementation of occupational therapy groups. To formulate more specific recommendations for occupational therapy groups which target a certain age group or a specific topic, further research is required.

Hintergrund: Gruppen spielen eine tragende Rolle für die menschliche Entwicklung und fördern das Zugehörigkeitsgefühl in der Gesellschaft. Die Gruppentherapie kommt seit Beginn der Ergotherapie in der Praxis zur Anwendung und wird als ein wirksames therapeutisches Instrument im psychiatrischen Bereich angesehen. Ziel: Ziel dieser Arbeit ist, die Erfahrungen und Erlebnisse psychiatrischer Patient*innen in der ergotherapeutischen Gruppentherapie darzustellen. Methodik: Bei der vorliegenden Arbeit handelt es sich um einen Literaturreview. Die systematische Literaturrecherche wurde zwischen 28.2. und 9.3.2020 in den Datenbanken CINAHL, Cochrane Library, Academic Search Elite, PubMed und OTseeker sowie in Fachzeitschriften recherchiert. Insgesamt wurden acht Publikationen miteingeschlossen. Die Studien wurden einzeln zusammengefasst, mithilfe des McMaster-Formulars (Law et al.,1998) und der Evidenzpyramide von Tomlin und Borgetto (2011) kritisch bewertet und anschließend miteinander verglichen. Ergebnisse: Die Erfahrungen der Teilnehmer*innen der einzelnen Studien wiesen vielerlei Ähnlichkeiten auf und wurden in vier Kategorien zusammengefasst: Gefühl der Zugehörigkeit, gesteigertes Selbstwertgefühl, Erweitern und Erwerben von Kompetenzen sowie Bedenken bezüglich des Alltagstransfers. Eine Reihe von Faktoren belegten eine positive Veränderung durch die Teilnahme an ergotherapeutischen Gruppen. Negative Aspekte der Gruppentherapie wurden seitens der Gruppenteilnehmer*innen kaum erwähnt. Drei der acht Studien wiesen keine konkrete Beschreibung des Ablaufs der Gruppentherapie auf. Conclusio: Die angeführten Ergebnisse untermauern den in der Hintergrundliteratur beschriebenen Stellenwert der ergotherapeutischen Gruppentherapie. Daraus ergibt sich für die Praxis, dass die Gruppentherapie eine erfolgsversprechende Methode in der ergotherapeutischen Behandlung bei psychisch kranken Menschen darstellt. Um eine effizientere Übertragbarkeit der Erkenntnisse in den ergotherapeutischen Alltag zu ermöglichen, wären detaillierte Beschreibungen der Interventionsmethoden in der Gruppentherapie von großer Bedeutung. Background: Groups play a fundamental role in human development and promote a sense of belonging in society. Group therapy has been used in occupational therapy practice from the start and is considered an effective therapeutic tool in the psychiatric field. Aim: The aim of this review is to depict the experiences of psychiatric patients in occupational group therapy. Methodology: This systematic literature review was conducted between the 28th of February and the 9th of March 2020. The databases CINAHL, Cochrane Library, Academic Search Elite, PubMed and OTseeker, as well as specialist journals were searched. A total of eight publications were included in the review. The studies were individually summarized, critically appraised using the McMaster form (Law et al.,1998) and the evidence pyramid by Tomlin and Borgetto (2011) and then compared with each other. Results: The experiences of the participants in the individual studies showed many similarities and are summarized in four categories: Feeling of belonging, increased self-esteem, broadening and gaining of competencies, and concerns regarding the transfer into everyday life. A number of factors confirm a positive change through participation in occupational therapy groups. Negative aspects of group therapy were hardly mentioned by the group participants. Four out of eight studies had no concrete description of the process of group therapy Conclusions: The results mentioned underline the importance of occupational therapy groups as described in the background literature. For occupational therapy practice, this means that group therapy is a promising method in occupational therapy treatment for mentally ill people. Im Frühjahr 2020 entstand bei drei Studierenden der Zürcher Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften (ZHAW) im Rahmen des Moduls „Projektwerkstatt“ die Idee, ihr eigenes Interesse an modernen Interpretationen des Stickens in den professionellen Kontext zu übertragen. Sonja Mair, Bernadette Müller und Nicole Terne erkannten, dass diese entspannende und freudvoll stimmende Freizeitaktivität in der Ergotherapie äußerst vielseitig eingesetzt und neu interpretiert werden kann. Die drei Studierenden nahmen dem Sticken das verstaubte Image, übertrugen dieses in der Ergotherapie altbekannte Wissen in einen aktuellen Kontext und erweckten das Handwerk so zu neuem Leben.

Popularyzacja tworzenia kodeksów zaadresowanych do różnych grup społecznych jest jedną z cech współczesnego świata. Wśród badaczy tego zjawiska nie ma jednak pełnej zgody na zasadność i użyteczność moralną tej działalności. Artykuł przybliża przegląd literatury przedmiotu w zakresie dotyczącym argumentów za stworzeniem umiarkowanego stanowiska na rzecz kodyfikacji norm etycznych. Przybliżono główne pojęcia dotyczące kodeksów etycznych i stanowiska za ich przyjęciem i odrzuceniem. Zwrócono uwagę na sposoby zwiększania skuteczności kodeksów oraz procedurę podejmowania decyzji etycznych w sposób godzący podejścia zwolenników i przeciwników kodyfikacji.*The popularisation of code elaboration addressed to various social groups is one of the features of the modern world. However, among researchers of this phenomenon a full consensus on the moral validity and usefulness of this activity does not exist. The article closely reviews the literature with regard to the reasons for the creation of a moderate position on the codification of ethical standards. The essay brings closer the main concepts of ethical codes and positions for their adoption and rejection. Attention is paid to ways of increasing the effectiveness of codes and the ethical decision-making procedure in a manner that undermines supporters and opponents of codification approaches.

Gary Alan FINE is among the most prominent figures in contemporary sociological ethnography worldwide. In this conversation, he talks about influences in his academic career and key intellectual choices. Considered to be a "serial ethnographer" who has worked in multiple settings, his work focuses on small groups and peopled ethnography, as well as on rumors, gossip, and moral story telling in tiny and larger publics. FINE describes his core theoretical interest as residing in the interplay of structure, interaction, and culture and discusses the multiple local ways society is realized by people in formal and informal social settings: ranging from baseball teams, restaurant kitchens, weather reporting to chess players—to name but a few research sites. Gary Alan FINE gehört weltweit zu den prominentesten Persönlichkeiten der zeitgenössischen soziologischen Ethnografie. In this conversation, he talks about influences in his academic career and key intellectual choices. Considered to be a "serial ethnographer" who has worked in multiple settings, his work focuses on small groups and peopled ethnography, as well as on rumors, gossip, and moral story telling in tiny and larger publics. FINE describes his core theoretical interest as residing in the interplay of structure, interaction, and culture and discusses the multiple local ways society is realized by people in formal and informal social settings: ranging from baseball teams, restaurant kitchens, weather reporting to chess players—to name but a few research sites. Influenced by symbolic interactionist thinking and other important approaches to social worlds, he argues for a confident voice of ethnographic research and writing as well as the importance of conceptual work in a theory-informed empirical sociology of what people do together.

Diese SISS-Schrift erläutert die statistische Analyse von Mehrgruppen-Modellen sowie deren Schätzung und Interpretation als Strukturgleichungsmodelle mit latenten Variablen. Alle Analysen werden exemplarisch unter Verwendung eines empirischen Datensatzes durchgeführt. Dabei werden verschiedenste Probleme, die mit statistischen Mehrgruppenanalysen verbunden sind, aufgezeigt und Möglichkeiten für deren Lösung vorgestellt. Zusätzlich werden alle SPSS- und EQS-Inputfiles (Syntaxfiles), die für die Analyse (mittels „copy and paste“) benötigt werden, zur Verfügung gestellt. This SISS-paper describes the statistical analysis of multi-group models. It shows the estimation and interpretation of these models as structural equation models including latent variables. All analyses are presented in an exemplary way by using empirical data. Several problems that could arise in the course of multi-group analysis are discussed and recommendations on how to deal with the presented problems are given. Additionally, all the SPSS- and EQS-input files (syntax files) necessary for multi-group analysis are presented for download(by “copy and paste”).

Intersectoral actions in the sport-for-development field constitute a pre-condition for the implementation of sport-based interventions. At an operational level, the multi-professional group is the tool through which intersectoral collaboration may successfully achieve its aims. Despite the prominent role of the group, this topic is under-researched in terms of understanding intersectoral actions in the sport-for-development field. By applying a psycho-sociological perspective, our research explores the role of the multi-professional group as a limit/resource for sport-for-development workers that operate with vulnerable youth. Following a phenomenological interpretive approach, 12 practitioners (six sport workers and six social workers) participated in semi-structured interviews to explore the role of multi-professional groups as a resource/limit in working with socially vulnerable youth through sport. The results indicate that, in the participants’ experience, belonging to a multi-professional group is a meaningful resource to trigger reflexivity, promote collaboration and integrate their different professions. The interviews highlighted the positive potential of this tool to address the challenges that emerge when working with socially vulnerable youth, including the management of negative emotions, unexpected events and the relationship with young people. Some interviews also suggested that the presence of multiple professions, under certain circumstances, may be a risk when working with youth. These findings have significant value for programme design, strategy and management as they show the value of trans-disciplinary practices as an agenda for social inclusion through sport.

Daten von 8.344 Schüler*innen aus Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz zeigen, dass sich häusliche Ressourcen wie technische Ausstattung und elterliche Unterstützung auf die Emotionen, den Lernaufwand und den Lernerfolg der Schüler*innen auswirken. Als bedeutsamer erweisen sich jedoch die Selbstständigkeit der Schüler*innen und die Qualität des Unterrichts während der Schulschließung. Data from 8,344 students from Germany, Austria and Switzerland show that home resources such as technical equipment and parental support play a role for student outcomes in terms of emotions, learning effort and learning success. Weber's concept of social class is an extension of Marx's concept. According to Marx, social class is the association of people who perform the same function in the organization of production. Social classes in the community are differentiated based on their different positions in the economic order, that is, differences in their position of control over the means of production. Weber, using the term social class in the sense used by Marx, added two factors, namely individual capabilities and the market situation.

The community-based conservation model is an increasing phenomenon in Kenya, especially in northern pastoralist counties. This Working Paper, the result of empirical research over several years, considers dimensions of inclusion and exclusion and subsequent conflicts around communitybased conservancies in Isiolo County. It finds that conservancies are sometimes established to protect a community’s interests in and access to community land, including formal claim-making over ancestral community land which may spatially exclude other groups. These dimensions are reinforced by the presence of rangers, of whom many are armed National Police Reservists. Spatial and political dimensions of exclusion also exist to some extent within conservancies due to the need to balance wildlife and grazing needs. Armed security forces in conservancies have important implications for state sovereignty and control over the use of force. Importantly, a powerful donor-funded umbrella organisation (the Northern Rangelands Trust) is significantly involved in training, equipping and deploying rangers. The presence of well-equipped armed ranger teams may then inadvertently play into resource-based conflict and alter power balances between ethnic groups as is most clearly highlighted on the Samburu–Isiolo border. Sustainability is another concern where donor funding is an important source. Another concern for the future is Isiolo’s position at the centre of the country’s infrastructural and economic development plans which threaten to dispossess pastoralists of community land. Land claims and conflicts are set to increase, and arms in civilian hands could plausibly be used in various types of conflict, from ethno-political to community-investor and community-state conflicts.
