The poultry production model is an efficiently intensified small-scale production model. One of the best ways to measure the efficiency of poultry production is the feed conversion ratio (FCR). This study investigated factors that influence the FCR while considering spatial autocorrelations. A random sample of 320 broiler chicken farmers in Musanze district, northern Rwanda was collected and the Spatial Error Model (SEM) was used for analysis. Results revealed a spatial autocorrelation and relationships between FCR and some factors. This study advances our understanding of sustainable intensification and contributes to the design of future investments and interventions in broiler chicken production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The mechanisms that mediate the antibacterial action of protamine were analyzed in cell suspensions of Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli and Shewanella putrefaciens. A nonspecific efflux of intracellular components such as adenosine triphosphate and beta-galactosidase was detected after the addition of protamine in gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Furthermore, protamine's antibacterial activity involves the interaction of polycationic peptides with anionic cell wall components and phospholipids in the cytoplasmic membrane.

The research methods of Kon Wajiro were different from the methods of traditional anthropology, and hence his research was called pseudo academic. Wajiro was a good writer and his works include 'Modernologio,' a book on slums, and an autobiography. He was born on July 10, 1888, in Hirosaki, Japan, and graduated from the Tokyo Fine Arts School in 1912. His studies focussed on people's lifestyles, class and gender divisions, and their houses and artifacts. His concept of applied modernology was developed as the present day market research, but his works got little recognition.

A study was conducted to determine the impacts of salmon protamine on cell morphology, cell wall and cytoplasmic constituents of Listeria monocytogenes and Shewanella putrefaciens. TRansmission immunoelectron microscopy and atomic force microscopy were used to evaluate the effects. Protamine was found to disrupt the outer surface structure and condensed the cytoplasm of sensitive cells. It was also observed to change membrane structures in sublethal concentrations, consequently eliminating respiration.

Herring surimi stored at 10 degrees Centigrade for 0-24 hours and reheated at 90 degrees Centigrade for 30 minutes showed decreases in rigidity, shear stress and shear strain with increases in temperature. Electrophoretic techniques identified three types of protein-protein interactions: covalent, noncovalent and nondisulfide bonds. The contributions of the interactions to the formation of myosin polymers varied with temperature setting time and depended on the physical and chemical properties of the proteins.

Continued recession in Japan since 1991 has resulted in deteriorating living standards in slum districts such as Sanya in eastern Tokyo, Japan, which are inhabited by day laborers. The doya-gai, which accommodates day laborers, is now over-populated with unemployed workers who rely on the social welfare system to provide them with sustainable income and security. Laborers in the doya-gai of Sanya have formed a union affiliated to the National Union of Day Laborers to emphasize the importance of self-help and solidarity.

Several analyses are conducted to determine the ability of Pseudoalteromonas, the bacteria isolated from blue mussels in reducing the toxicity of the paralytic shellfish toxins (PSTs). The studied bacterial isolates are shown to be extremely effective in deducting the toxin levels.
