Abstract

This paper describes a new transient stability control system named the TSC system developed for application to the trunk power system of Chubu Electric Power Co. (CEPCO). The TSC system prevents wide-area power system blackout by shedding optimal generators when a serious fault occurs. This system has the following features: (1) The TSC system performs detailed stability calculations based on on-line information telemetered from the actual network, and it periodically evaluates the stability of the power system against contingencies with a high degree of accuracy. The system selects the optimum generators to be shed. (2) If a contingency actually occurs, the generators to be shed that were determined in advance are shed about 150 ms after fault occurrence to maintain the stability of the power system. (3) The system can be applied to any power system configuration of CEPCO, such as a loop network, radial network, etc. The TSC system will be put into regular service in June 1995. It will be the world's first real-time stability control system that performs detailed transient stability calculations on a large power system on-line. Epigenetic gene regulation is crucial to plant life and can involve dynamic interactions between various histone modifications, DNA methylation, and small RNAs. Detailed analysis of epigenome information is anticipated to reveal how the DNA sequence of the genome is translated into the plant’s phenotype. The aim of this study was to map the DNA methylation state at the whole genome level and to clarify the relationship between DNA methylation and transcription, small RNA expression, and histone H3 lysine 9 di-methylation (H3K9me2) in Brassica rapa. We performed whole genome bisulfite sequencing, small RNA sequencing, and chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing using H3K9me2 antibody in a Chinese cabbage inbred line, RJKB-T24, and examined the impact of epigenetic states on transcription. Cytosine methylation in DNA was analysed in different sequence contexts (CG, CHG, and CHH) (where H could be A, C, or T) and position (promoter, exon, intron, terminator, interspersed repeat regions), and the H3K9me2 and 24 nucleotide small interfering RNAs (24nt-siRNA) were overlaid onto the B. rapa reference genome. The epigenome was compared with that of Arabidopsis thaliana and the relationship between the position of DNA methylation and gene expression, and the involvement of 24nt siRNAs and H3K9me2 are discussed.

Abstract

Jet engines ingest sand and volcanic ash in the air and then the sand and ash reach a combustion chamber. Due to the high temperature of the chamber, sand and ash are melted and form the molten droplets. The molten droplets are rapidly cooled around the turbine blades and the end walls. The droplets are solidified and finally adhere on these surfaces. This deposition phenomenon causes many problems in the aircraft, e.g., deterioration of the turbine performance, disturbing the cooling flow of turbine blade, etc. To predict or prevent the deposition phenomenon, its mechanisms should be clarified. In the present study, we perform three-dimensional numerical simulations on deposition behavior of a single molten droplet on a cooled substrate. We compare the present numerical data and the experimental data in the previous study for validation and we observe effects of the drop velocity on the deposition phenomenon. As a numerical method, an explicit-moving particle simulation method is employed since the method is suitable for the large interface deformation system. The computational results show reasonable agreements with the experimental data, especially, at an early stage of the deposition. We confirm finger-like-structures which is a characteristic shape of the adhered droplet edge. As increasing of the initial droplet velocity, we found that the increase of the rebound particles.
