Abstract: The Major Atmospheric Gamma Imaging Cerenkov (MAGIC) telescope participated in three multiwavelength (MWL) campaigns, observing the blazar Markarian (Mkn) 421 during the nights of 2006 April 28, 29, and 2006 June 14. We analyzed the corresponding MAGIC very-high energy observations during 9 nights from 2006 April 22 to 30 and on 2006 June 14. We inferred light curves with sub-day resolution and night-by-night energy spectra. A strong gamma-ray signal was detected from Mkn 421 on all observation nights. The flux (E > 250 GeV) varied on night-by-night basis between (0.92+-0.11)10^-10 cm^-2 s^-1 (0.57 Crab units) and (3.21+-0.15)10^-10 cm^-2 s^-1 (2.0 Crab units) in 2006 April. There is a clear indication for intra-night variability with a doubling time of 36+-10(stat) minutes on the night of 2006 April 29, establishing once more rapid flux variability for this object. For all individual nights gamma-ray spectra could be inferred, with power-law indices ranging from 1.66 to 2.47. We did not find statistically significant correlations between the spectral index and the flux state for individual nights. During the June 2006 campaign, a flux substantially lower than the one measured by the Whipple 10-m telescope four days later was found. Using a log-parabolic power law fit we deduced for some data sets the location of the spectral peak in the very-high energy regime. Abstract: The blazar PG 1553+113 is a well known TeV gamma-ray emitter. In this paper, we determine its spectral energy distribution using simultaneous multi-frequency data in order to study its emission processes. An extensive campaign was carried out between March and April 2008, where optical, X-ray, high-energy (HE) gamma-ray, and very-high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray data were obtained with the KVA, Abastumani, REM, RossiXTE/ASM, AGILE and MAGIC telescopes, respectively. This is the first simultaneous broad-band (i.e., HE+VHE) gamma-ray observation, though AGILE did not detect the source. Abstract: The discovery of very high energy (VHE) gamma-ray emitting X-ray binaries has triggered an intense effort to better understand the particle acceleration, absorption, and emission mechanisms in compact binary systems, which provide variable conditions along eccentric orbits. Despite this, the nature of some of these systems, and of the accelerated particles producing the VHE emission, is unclear. To answer some of these open questions, we conducted a multiwavelength campaign of the VHE gamma-ray emitting X-ray binary LS I +61 303 including the MAGIC telescope, XMM-Newton, and Swift during 60% of an orbit in 2007 September. We detect a simultaneous outburst at X-ray and VHE bands, with the peak at phase 0.62 and a similar shape at both wavelengths. A linear fit to the simultaneous X-ray/VHE pairs obtained during the outburst yields a correlation coefficient of r=0.97, while a linear fit to all simultaneous pairs provides r=0.81. Since a variable absorption of the VHE emission towards the observer is not expected for the data reported here, the correlation found indicates a simultaneity in the emission processes. Assuming that they are dominated by a single particle population, either hadronic or leptonic, the X-ray/VHE flux ratio favors leptonic models. This fact, together with the detected photon indices, suggests that in LS I +61 303 the X-rays are the result of synchrotron radiation of the same electrons that produce VHE emission as a result of inverse Compton scattering of stellar photons., Comment: To appear in The Astrophysical Journal Letters. 6 pages, 2 figures

Abstract: The Perseus galaxy cluster was observed by the MAGIC Cherenkov telescope for a total effective time of 24.4 hr during 2008 November and December. The resulting upper limits on the gamma-ray emission above 100 GeV are in the range of 4.6 to 7.5 x 10^{-12} cm^{-2} s^{-1} for spectral indices from -1.5 to -2.5, thereby constraining the emission produced by cosmic rays, dark matter annihilations, and the central radio galaxy NGC1275. Results are compatible with cosmological cluster simulations for the cosmic-ray-induced gamma-ray emission, constraining the average cosmic ray-to-thermal pressure to <4% for the cluster core region (<8% for the entire cluster). Using simplified assumptions adopted in earlier work (a power-law spectrum with an index of -2.1, constant cosmic ray-to-thermal pressure for the peripheral cluster regions while accounting for the adiabatic contraction during the cooling flow formation), we would limit the ratio of cosmic ray-to-thermal energy to E_CR/E_th<3%. The upper limit also translates into a level of gamma-ray emission from possible annihilations of the cluster dark matter (the dominant mass component) that is consistent with boost factors of ~10^4 for the typically expected dark matter annihilation-induced emission. Finally, the upper limits obtained for the gamma-ray emission of the central radio galaxy NGC1275 are consistent with the recent detection by the Fermi-LAT satellite. Due to the extremely large Doppler factors required for the jet, a one-zone synchrotron self-Compton model is implausible in this case. Abstract: The fast repositioning system of the MAGIC Telescope has allowed during its first data cycle, between 2005 and the beginning of year 2006, observing nine different GRBs as possible sources of very high energy gammas. These observations were triggered by alerts from Swift, HETE-II, and Integral; they started as fast as possible after the alerts and lasted for several minutes, with an energy threshold varying between 80 and 200 GeV, depending upon the zenith angle of the burst. No evidence for gamma signals was found, and upper limits for the flux were derived for all events, using the standard analysis chain of MAGIC. For the bursts with measured redshift, the upper limits are compatible with a power law extrapolation, when the intrinsic fluxes are evaluated taking into account the attenuation due to the scattering in the Metagalactic Radiation Field (MRF)., Comment: 25 pages, 9 figures, final version accepted by ApJ. Abstract: The MAGIC collaboration has studied the high peaked BL-Lac object 1ES1218+30.4 at a redshift z = 0.182, using the MAGIC imaging air Cherenkov telescope located on the Canary island of La Palma. A gamma-ray signal was observed with 6.4sigma significance. The differential energy spectrum for an energy threshold of 120GeV can be fitted by a simple power law yielding F_E(E) = (8.1+-2.1)*10^-7 (E/250GeV)^(-3.0+-0.4) TeV^-1 m^-2 s^-1. During the six days of observation in January 2005 no time variability on time scales of days was found within the statistical errors. Abstract: The long-duration GRB050713a was observed by the MAGIC Telescope, 40 seconds after the burst onset, and followed up for 37 minutes, until twilight. The observation, triggered by a SWIFT alert, covered energies above ~175 GeV. Using standard MAGIC analysis, no evidence for a gamma signal was found. 61. Coulomb Final State Interactions for Gaussian Wave Packets

Abstract: Two-particle like-sign and unlike-sign correlations including Coulomb final state interactions are calculated for Gaussian wave packets emitted from a Gaussian source. We show that the width of the wave packets can be fully absorbed into the spatial and momentum space widths of an effective emission function for plane wave states, and that Coulomb final state interaction effects are sensitive only to the latter, but not to the wave packet width itself. Abstract: Proton and deuteron production has been observed in S+S and S+Pb collisions at 200 A·GeV and in Pb+Pb reactions at 158 A·GeV at the CERN SPS accelerator. For Pb+Pb triton production was also measured. The p and d spectra as well as the p and t spectra were observed in similar rapidity ranges and over similar ranges of transverse momenta per nucleon, making it possible to interpret the cross sections of the composite particles in terms of coalescence mechanisms. Volumes of homogeneity were extracted and compared to pion-pair HBT interferometry results. Special attention is given to the dependence on transverse mass, centrality and rapidity.

Abstract: Two-particle correlation functions of negative hadrons over wide phase space, and transverse mass spectra of negative hadrons and deuterons near mid-rapidity have been measured in central Pb+Pb collisions at 158 GeV per nucleon by the NA49 experiment at the CERN SPS. A novel Coulomb correction procedure for the negative two-particle correlations is employed making use of the measured oppositely charged particle correlation. Within an expanding source scenario these results are used to extract the dynamic characteristics of the hadronic source, resolving the ambiguities between the temperature and transverse expansion velocity of the source, that are unavoidable when single and two particle spectra are analysed separately. The source shape, the total duration of the source expansion, the duration of particle emission, the freeze-out temperature and the longitudinal and transverse expansion velocities are deduced.

Abstract: The transverse momentum and rapidity distributions of net protons and negatively charged hadrons have been measured for minimum bias proton-nucleus and deuteron-gold interactions, as well as central oxygen-gold and sulphur-nucleus collisions at 200 GeV per nucleon. The rapidity density of net protons at midrapidity in central nucleus-nucleus collisions increases both with target mass for sulphur projectiles and with the projectile mass for a gold target. The shape of the rapidity distributions of net protons forward of midrapidity for d+Au and central S+Au collisions is similar. The average rapidity loss is larger than 2 units of rapidity for reactions with the gold target. The transverse momentum spectra of net protons for all reactions can be described by a thermal distribution with 'temperatures' between 145±11 MeV (p+S interactions) and 244±43 MeV (central S+Au collisions). The multiplicity of negatively charged hadrons increases with the mass of the colliding system. The shape of the transverse momentum spectra of negatively charged hadrons changes from minimum bias p+p and p+S interactions to p+Au and central nucleus-nucleus collisions. The mean transverse momentum is almost constant in the vicinity of midrapidity and shows little variation with the target and projectile masses. The average number of produced negatively charged hadrons per participant baryon increases slightly from p+p, p+A to central S+S,Ag collisions.

Abstract: A deep survey of the Large Magellanic Cloud at ~0.1-100TeV photon energies with the Cherenkov Telescope Array is planned. We assess the detection prospects based on a model for the emission of the galaxy, comprising the four known TeV emitters, mock populations of sources, and interstellar emission on galactic scales. We also assess the detectability of 30 Doradus and SN 1987A, and the constraints that can be derived on the nature of dark matter. The survey will allow for fine spectral studies of N157B, N132D, LMC P3, and 30 Doradus C, and half a dozen other sources should be revealed, mainly pulsar-powered objects. The remnant from SN 1987A could be detected if it produces cosmic-ray nuclei with a flat power-law spectrum at high energies, or with a steeper index 2.3-2.4 pending a flux increase by a factor >3-4 over ~2015-2035. Large-scale interstellar emission remains mostly out of reach of the survey if its >10GeV spectrum has a soft photon index ~2.7, but degree-scale 0.1-10TeV pion-decay emission could be detected if the cosmic-ray spectrum hardens above >100GeV. The 30 Doradus star-forming region is detectable if acceleration efficiency is on the order of 1-10% of the mechanical luminosity and diffusion is suppressed by two orders of magnitude within

Abstract: Thanks to the dynamically evolving 3D printing technology, the use of 3D printing is becoming more and more widely used besides the industrial areas by medical sciences as well. The most commonly used materials in dentistry are poly-mers, and their biocompatibility is a key question when used in oral environments. Our aim was to identify the components released from the biocompatible MED610 (Stratasys, USA) polymer samples and to monitor their effects on bonederived cells. During the research, the biocompatibility of the polymer was investigated, and its effect on osteosarcoma (SAOS-2) cell proliferation was observed. In the series of experiments objects of various sizes, shapes and surface area sizes were printed of MED610 polymer with Objet 30 Orthojet (Stratasys, USA) printer and the objects were surface treated according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Printed samples were exposed directly or indirectly to Sarcoma Osteogenic-2 (SAOS-2) cells during the experiments. The dissolution assay of MED610 was performed for 7 days using 11 samples in methanol and analyzed by gas chromatography – mass spectrometry coupled method (GC-MS). The components were identified by MS search based on MS spectra. As a result, several components were identified, three in relatively large amounts. These were isobornyl acrylate, hydroxycyclohexyl-phenyl-ketone and caprolactone. The effect of the different dimensions of the MED610 polymer on the proliferation of SAOS-2 cells was studied by alamarBlue assay (Thermo Fisher Scientific, USA). Based on the results of cell viability assays, MED610 significantly decreases SAOS-2 cell proliferation in parallel with surface increment, which is enhanced by direct exposure to the substance. The effect we are observing is probably caused by the toxic substances liberated from MED610. In case of a bigger surface area, the substances are released more rapidly from MED610 and thus are present in higher concentrations in the cellular environment.

74. The Clinical Value of the Self-Administered Kamath and Stothard’s Questionnaire in the Diagnostics of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Abstract: The clinician-administered Kamath and Stothard’s questionnaire is a recommended tool for assessing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). The authors investigated whether the self-administered Kamath and Stothard’s questionnaire (KSQ) can categorize the severity of CTS according to the Nerve Conduction Study (NCS) and predict the outcome of Carpal Tunnel Release (CTR). One hundred and forty-two consecutive patients were enrolled in this prospective study, who completed the KSQ and were referred for NCS. Symptom relief after CTR was considered as the reference standard. KSQ’s scores were compared with the severity of CTS confirmed by NCS and the effectiveness of the surgery, Sensitivity and Positive Predictive Value (PPV) of the KSQ was calculated. The sensitivity of KSQ in each NCS severity category (mild, moderate, and severe CTS) was low (11.9% - 50.0%), however, the sensitivity and PPV of KSQ in the moderate + severe CTS category was 88.9% and 95.5%. The KSQ score of 5 or greater was found to be correlated with a successful CTR (sensitivity 92.8%, PPV of 90.2%). The study revealed that the KSQ with a score of 5 or greater is able to distinguish the mild conditions from moderate and severe ones. The KSQ’s score of 5 or greater also can predict the successful outcome of CTR. The authors believe that in addition to reducing the duration and cost of diagnostics, the KSQ can also reduce patient appointments and clinic time. Application of the KSQ may be of paramount importance in the current Covid pandemic era.

Abstract: A variational procedure is described for the computation of the non-adiabatic mass-correction tensor applicable for multi-dimensional electronic manifolds. The 30-year-old computations of Wolniewicz, Dressler, and their co-workers are appended with the computed vibronic mass-correction functions corresponding to the $EF$-$GK$-$H\bar{H}$-$S5$-$S6$ $^1��_\text{g}^+$ manifold of the hydrogen molecule. Initial results are reported for the vibronic energies. Necessary further improvements and further developments are discussed.

Abstract: The in-situ used combination of different types of drugs revolutionized the area of periodontal therapy. The purpose of this study was to develop biodegradable nanocomposite hydrogel (NCHG) as a pH-sensitive drug delivery system. To reach the local applicability of the NCHG in dental practice routinely used blue-light photopolymerization was chosen for the preparation. The reaction time was 60 seconds, which resulted in stable hydrogel structures. Universal Britton-Robinson buffer solutions were used to investigate only the effect of pH for the release of the periodontal pocket useable drugs in the 4-12 range. The release of metronidazole was faster, it came out from the NCHGs within 12 hours, but the chlorhexidine had shown a longer elution time, which was more than 7 days as far as the antiseptic effect was maintained. The release of chlorhexidine showed strong pH depending. The biocompatibility of the NCHGs was proved by Alamar-blue test, and the effectiveness of drug release in the acidic medium was demonstrated. This fast photopolymerizable NCHG can help to approach an ideal locally useable combined drug delivery system which can be used in the amount required of the medicines and can reduce the side effects with the increased effectiveness by following pH changes.

80. Variational Dirac-Coulomb explicitly correlated computations for atoms and molecules

Abstract: The Dirac-Coulomb equation with positive-energy projection is solved using explicitly correlated Gaussian functions. The algorithm and computational procedure aims for a parts-per-billion convergence of the energy to provide a starting point for further comparison and further developments in relation with high-resolution atomic and molecular spectroscopy. Besides a detailed discussion of the implementation of the fundamental spinor structure, permutation and point-group symmetries, various options for the positive-energy projection procedure are presented. The no-pair Dirac-Coulomb energy converged to a parts-per-billion precision is compared with perturbative results for atomic and molecular systems with small nuclear charge numbers. The subsequent paper [Paper II: D. Ferenc, P. Jeszenszki, and E. M��tyus (2022)] describes the implementation of the Breit interaction in this framework.

Abstract: The Breit interaction is implemented in the no-pair variational Dirac-Coulomb (DC) framework using an explicitly correlated Gaussian basis reported in the previous paper [Paper I: P. Jeszenszki, D. Ferenc, and E. M��tyus (2022)]. Both a perturbative and a fully variational inclusion of the Breit term is considered. The no-pair DC plus perturbative Breit as well as the no-pair Dirac-Coulomb-Breit energies are compared with perturbation theory results including the Breit-Pauli Hamiltonian and leading-order non-radiative quantum electrodynamics corrections for low $Z$ values. Possible reasons for the observed deviations are discussed.

Abstract: This paper elaborates the integral transformation technique of [K. Pachucki, W. Cencek, and J. Komasa, J. Chem. Phys. 122, 184101 (2005)] and uses it for the case of the non-relativistic kinetic and Coulomb potential energy operators, as well as for the relativistic mass-velocity and Darwin terms. The techniques are tested for the ground electronic state of the helium atom and new results are reported for the ground electronic state of the H$_3^+$ molecular ion near its equilibrium structure.

Abstract: A variational solution procedure is reported for the many-particle no-pair Dirac-Coulomb-Breit Hamiltonian aiming at a parts-per-billion (ppb) convergence of the atomic and molecular energies, described within the fixed nuclei approximation. The procedure is tested for nuclear charge numbers from $Z=1$ (hydrogen) to $28$ (iron). Already for the lowest $Z$ values, a significant difference is observed from leading-order Foldy-Woythusen perturbation theory, but the observed deviations are smaller than the estimated self-energy and vacuum polarization corrections.

Abstract: The rovibrational intervals of the $^4$He$_2^+$ molecular ion in its $X\ ^2��_\text{u}^+$ ground electronic state are computed by including the non-adiabatic, relativistic, and leading-order quantum-electrodynamics corrections. Good agreement of theory and experiment is observed for the rotational excitation series of the vibrational ground state and the fundamental vibration. The lowest-energy rotational interval is computed to be $70.937\ 69(10)$ cm$^{-1}$ in agreement with the most recently reported experimental value, $70.937\ 589(23)(60)_\text{sys}$ cm$^{-1}$ [L.
