This study examined the validity of situational view on culture-specific behaviours focusing on self-evaluation. Two experiments with American students as samples were conducted to examine whether priming their self-construals would affect individuals' self-evaluation. In Experiment 1, the participants' self-evaluation was compared across different conditions of primed self-contruals. In Experiment 2, the participants were split into 2 groups based on their initial default self-consturals and, the self-evaluations were compared across the 2 groups after priming self-contruals. The results demonstrated that although the participants' self-evaluation was initially in accord with their default self-construal, it changed into accord with the primed self-construals. The findings supported the proposed cultural game player view. Implications on situational view of self-evaluation are also discussed.

Analog transducers (sensors or actuators) are widely used in industry. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 1451.4 standard defines a mixed-mode communication protocol and the Transducer Electronic Data Sheet (TEDS) formats for analog transducers. This standard enables the plug-and-play capability of analog transducers and easy integration of analog transducers with measurement and control systems. This paper describes a prototype of the IEEE 1451.4 one-wire interface for analog transducers. The prototype system developed at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) consists of an IEEE 1451.4-based transducer, a one-wire interface board, and a single board computer (SBC). An example of reading the IEEE 1451.4 TEDS from an IEEE 1451.4-compatible accelerometer is provided to illustrate system functionality.

This paper describes a wireless sensor network (WSN) based on the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)'s 1451.0, 1451.5, and 802.11 standards. The implementation of the IEEE-based WSN was developed at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The WSN consists of two wireless nodes - the network capable application processor (NCAP) node and wireless transducer interface module (WTIM) node. In operation the NCAP node communicates wirelessly with the WTIM node using the IEEE 1451.0 and IEEE 1451.5 interfaces through the IEEE 802.11 wireless communication modules. In the paper two case studies illustrate the implementation of the request and response of the sensor data and transducer electronic data sheet (TEDS) using the client-server model. The work described provides a foundation and some guidelines for implementing a wireless sensor monitoring application based on the IEEE 1451.0 and 1451.5 standards.

An efficient ignition formulation for thermate was developed during the XM89 Enhanced Incendiary Grenade program to use as an alternative to the standard lead oxide-containing formulation used in the AN-Ml4 thermate grenade. This lead-free formulation has provided reliable ignition of the XM89 over a temperature range of -25 degrees F - 120 degrees F when using the M201 Al fuze as the initiator. Reliable ignition of the thermate could also be achieved using 10 g of the new ignition formulation. The AN-Ml4 employs 30 g of ignition mix. The ignition formulation described in this report has also been successfully employed to initiate other pyrotechnic devices such as flares and smoke compositions. It may also have some application as a combination delay/output formulation in devices that do not require either a "gasless" delay or sealing of the delay tube with reaction products.
