Recently, more wind turbine systems have been installed in deep waters far from the coast. Several concepts of floating wind turbine systems (FWTS) have been developed, among which, the semi-submersible platform—due to its applicability in different water depths, good hydrodynamic performance, and facility in the installation process—constitutes the most explored technology compared to the others. However, a significant obstacle to the industrialization of this technology is the design of a cost-effective FWTS, which can be achieved by optimizing the geometry, size, and weight of the floating platform, together with the mooring system. This is only possible by selecting a method capable of accurately analyzing the FWTS-coupled hydro–aero–structural dynamics at each design stage. Accordingly, this paper provides a detailed overview of the most commonly coupled numerical and physical methods—including their basic assumptions, formulations, limitations, and costs used for analyzing the dynamics of FWTS, mainly those supported by a semi-submersible—to assist in the choice of the most suitable method at each design phase of the FWTS. Finally, this article discusses possible future research directions to address the challenges in modeling FWTS dynamics that persist to date. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The idea of this paper comes from the need for a practical layout design for the subsea pipe line network and the power transmission network of offshore wind farms with subsea cables, which are both subsea transmission networks with line-shaped conduction structures. In this paper, this practical need is treated as an location-allocation problem, with the objective of minimizing the total cost, and a mixed-integer linear programming model (MILP) for layout optimization is developed. Through the model, the locations of service centers and theit corresponding sizes, the allocations between customers and service centers, as well as the transmission routes can all be figured out. This work makes two key contributions. First, facilities' capacity restrictions and the avoidance of subsea obstacles are both integrated, making the description of the layout closer to practical situations. Secondly, a "global to local" search process based on the Delaunay triangulation method is constructed to solve the model, resulting in a high-quality solution. An offshore field layout design scenario is taken as a case study, through which the validity, feasibility, and stability of the proposed model, as well as the solution strategy, are presented. Furthermore, in the case study, the effect of the manifold number on the layout optimization is analyzed, indicating the flexibility of the model's applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents an analysis of transient heat transfer in sandwich pipelines with active electrical heating. The mathematical models governing the heat conduction in the composite pipeline and the energy transport in the produced fluid were solved by using finite difference methods. Numerical results of computational simulation of cool-down for three sandwich pipeline configurations under typical production conditions were presented. The analysis showed that the sandwich pipe with active heating is a viable solution to meet severe flow assurance requirements of ultra-deepwater oil production even under unplanned and prolonged cool-down conditions.
