Abstract

Istraživanja unutar kognitivne psihologije tradicionalno su bila usmjerena na ispitivanje relativno izoliranih kognitivnih procesa, pri čemu je naglasak bio na razumijevanju učinkovitosti obrade informacija. Međutim, novija istraživanja upućuju na važnost ispitivanja utjecaja kognitivnih stilova na kognitivno funkcioniranje pojedinaca, pa je stoga i provedeno istraživanje bilo usmjereno na ovu problematiku. Naime, cilj je ovog istraživanja bio odrediti doprinos kognitivne refleksivnosti te kognitivnih stilova koji uključuju potrebu za kognicijom, povjerenje u intuiciju, maksimiziranje i sklonost praznovjerju u objašnjenju postignuća na nizu kognitivnih zadataka. Kognitivni zadaci pritom su uključivali konvergentno mišljenje, silogističko rasuđivanje te dva zadatka heurističkog razmišljanja, zadatak detekcije kovarijacije i zadatak s osnovnom proporcijom. Dobiveni rezultati izdvojili su kognitivnu refleksivnost kao statistički značajan prediktor konvergentnog mišljenja, silogističkog rasuđivanja i zadatka detekcije kovarijacije, dok su kao prediktori konvergentnog mišljenja i zadatka s osnovnom proporcijom izdvojeni potreba za kognicijom i povjerenje u intuiciju. Ovi nalazi potvrđuju i proširuju prethodne nalaze u ovom području te upućuju na važnost razumijevanja individualnih razlika u kontekstu kognitivnog funkcioniranja pojedinaca.

52. The Role of Decision Making Styles in Explaining Happiness.

Abstract

In pursuit of happiness, individuals often choose activities which may be influenced by their general decision making styles that reflect habitual ways of choosing and making decisions. The present study investigated the associations of such tendencies, namely individuals’ temporal perspectives that included present and future focus, and maximizing, with persons’ orientations to happiness and their relevance for subjective well-being. The obtained results confirmed previous reports indicating the relevance of orientations to happiness for subjective well-being. With respect to the decision making styles, they revealed positive correlations with regard to future focus with orientations to meaning and engagement that were also negatively associated with present focus. In addition, present focus was positively correlated with orientation to pleasure. With respect to maximizing, this decision making style was positively associated with all three orientations. While assessing the relevance of decision making styles for subjective well-being, the regression analyses indicated that higher levels of maximizing directly predicted higher levels of negative affect and lower life satisfaction. Next, mediation and network methodologies revealed significant mediating effects of orientations to meaning and engagement with respect to the relationships between future focus with life satisfaction and positive affect, orientation to meaning with respect to the associations between present focus with life satisfaction and positive affect, and orientation to engagement with respect to the relationships between maximizing with life satisfaction and positive affect. These results extend previous knowledge, indicating the relevance of individuals’ decision making styles for their conceptualizations of happiness, as well as subjective well-being. 53. Pristranost prekomjernog samopouzdanja i pogreška konjunkcije kod procjenjivanja ishoda nogometnih utakmica

Abstract

Cilj ovog istraživanja je doprinijeti boljem razumijevanju fenomena prekomjernog samopouzdanja i pogreške konjunkcije te provjeriti kakvu ulogu ove kognitivne pogreške igraju u realnoj životnoj situaciji klađenja na sportske ishode. U tu svrhu konstruirali smo online upitnike u kojima su nogometnim utakmicama dodijeljeni ishodi, a koji su predstavljali listiće za klađenje. Zadatak sudionika bio je procijeniti vjerojatnost da pojedini listić bude dobitni te iskazati stupanj sigurnosti u vlastitu procjenu. Sudionici su prvo procjenjivali listiće sa samo jednom utakmicom (singlovi), a nakon toga listiće s dvije utakmice (konjunkcije) koje su se sastojale od prethodno procijenjenih singlova. U jednoj verziji sudionici su procjenjivali ishode formulirane u obliku vjerojatnosti, a u drugoj u obliku frekvencija. U istraživanju je sudjelovalo 130 muških sudionika. Njih 67 se kladilo najmanje jednom tjedno pa su smatrani „ekspertima“, a 63 vrlo rijetko ili nikada te smo njih smatrali „laicima“. Iako su i „eksperti“ i „laici“ pokazali pristranost prekomjernog samopouzdanja, među njima nije bilo značajne razlike u podložnosti ovoj pogrešci. Međutim, ispostavilo se da „eksperti“ znatno češće čine pogrešku konjunkcije od „laika“. Procjenjivanje u obliku frekvencija značajno je smanjilo pristranost prekomjernog samopouzdanja u odnosu na procjenjivane u obliku vjerojatnosti, ali ne i pogrešku konjunkcije. Zaključno, čini se da su česti kladioci podložni i pristranosti prekomjernog samopouzdanja i pogrešci konjunkcije, potonjoj čak i češće od „laika“. Zbog toga vjerojatno donose loše odluke i gube novac.

Abstract

Economic inequality is associated with preferences for smaller, immediate gains over larger, delayed ones. Such temporal discounting may feed into rising global inequality, yet it is unclear whether it is a function of choice preferences or norms, or rather the absence of sufficient resources for immediate needs. It is also not clear whether these reflect true differences in choice patterns between income groups. We tested temporal discounting and five intertemporal choice anomalies using local currencies and value standards in 61 countries (N = 13,629). Across a diverse sample, we found consistent, robust rates of choice anomalies. Lower-income groups were not significantly different, but economic inequality and broader financial circumstances were clearly correlated with population choice patterns.

Abstract

Economic inequality is associated with preferences for smaller, immediate gains over larger, delayed ones. Such temporal discounting may feed into rising global inequality, yet it is unclear whether it is a function of choice preferences or norms, or rather the absence of sufficient resources for immediate needs. It is also not clear whether these reflect true differences in choice patterns between income groups. We tested temporal discounting and five intertemporal choice anomalies using local currencies and value standards in 61 countries (N = 13,629). Across a diverse sample, we found consistent, robust rates of choice anomalies. Lower-income groups were not significantly different, but economic inequality and broader financial circumstances were clearly correlated with population choice patterns. Ruggeri et al. find in a study of 61 countries that temporal discounting patterns are globally generalizable. Worse financial environments, greater inequality and high inflation are associated with extreme or inconsistent long-term decisions.

57. IMPACT OF WEARING HEARING AIDS ON COGNITIVE ABILITIES AND SUBJECTIVE TINNITUS IN PATIENTS WITH SENSORINEURAL HEARING LOSS: A PILOT STUDY.

Abstract

There is an increased number of people with hearing impairment and decreased cognitive abilities among the elderly population. Due to the fact that the auditory system and central nervous system are connected, pathological changes associated with aging occur on both levels. With the development of hearing aid technology, the quality of life of these patients can be improved. The aim of this study was to determine whether wearing a hearing aid has an impact on cognitive abilities and tinnitus. Current research does not show a clear connection between these factors. This study involved 44 subjects with sensorineural hearing loss. They were divided into two groups of 22 people, depending on whether they had previously used a hearing aid or not. Assessment of cognitive abilities was performed via the MoCA questionnaire, and assessment of the impact of tinnitus on daily activities was evaluated using the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) and the Iowa Tinnitus Handicap Questionnaire (ITHQ). Hearing aid status was classified as a primary outcome, while cognitive assessment and tinnitus intensity were associated variables. Our study showed an association between longer hearing aid use and poorer naming ability (p = 0.030, OR 4.734), poorer delayed recall (p = 0.033, OR 4.537), and spatial orientation (p = 0.016, OR 5.773) when compared with patients who had not used hearing aids, while tinnitus did not correlate with cognitive impairment. Based on the results, we can emphasize the importance of the auditory system as an input source for the central nervous system. The data direct us to improve the rehabilitation strategies for hearing and cognitive abilities in patients. Such an approach results higher quality of life in patients and prevents further cognitive decline.
