This paper first analyzes the current situation of highway electronic toll collection system of domestic and international, depth research on some of the key technologies of Radio-frequency identification (RFID), establish electronic toll collection system based on RFID, RFID in the ETC of city application, on the one hand, greatly improved the image of city vehicle management, prevent manual vulnerabilities, on the other hand, greatly promoted the automation construction in city.

Significant trend in software development is oriented mainly on distributed systems. One of the main problems in the current world of information technologies is the ever-increasing amount of digital data and complexity of problems that are being solved. In such conditions, developing a distributed system that needs to response promptly, can be very difficult and without proper techniques can lead to failure. Processing of potentially large volumes of incoming messages or events from various sources is also specific to the reactive computing. It can be assumed that the number of resources and their diversity will only grow. For that reason we have analyzed common approaches in distributed systems development. In this paper we introduce complex event processing. We try to evaluate its assets concerning design, implementation, modifiability, and flexibility of reactive distributed systems. For this purpose, we have implemented a functional model of an electronic toll collection system, based on system specifications for Slovak conditions. Significant flexibility is achieved in comparison with existing solutions. We also present the possibilities of complex event processing application in reactive distributed system design. Based on gained knowledge even implemented a functional model we have evaluated complex event processing impact on system's functionality, modifiability, performance and other characteristics.

The article presents the issues of transport telematics systems. Presented toll collection systems, which are used in Poland. Particular attention was paid to the electronic toll collection system, which utilizes transponder OBU mounted on the vehicle. Through its use is not required to stop the vehicle in order to pay the tolls. Analysis of the situation occurring now makes it necessary to make a functional analysis of electronic toll collection systems.

A Multilane Electronic Toll Collection system has been implemented in Thessaloniki, Greece in the framework of DRIVE II Project ADEPT (Automatic Debiting and Electronic Payment for Transport) (1992-1995). This pilot implementation is based on two-way 5.8 MHz microwave communication between roadside equipment, and in-vehicle transponder and smart card. The electronic system consists mainly of three modules, namely, the multilane debiting system in which electronic payment takes place in a multilane and free-flow speed conditions, video enforcement system which performs checking and payment verification, and finally a control center which co-ordinates all the functionalities and provides overall control of the system. The evaluation results showed that the electronic system is very successful and proved that the system is feasible from both technical and economic aspects.

In order to solve the problems of high failure, different network standard and inconvenience in tradition Electronic Toll Collection System(ETC). This paper discuss the application of RFID-SIM card in Electronic Toll Collection System in expressway. Furthermore, it analyzes hardware structures and connection among each module of the RFID-SIM cell phone's payment system, its application in ETC and some difficulties, and uses the electronic tag and conflict detection to deal with the uncontrollable distance of swiping card and conflict of swiping card in the application. Based the study it can sure the RFID-SIM card will have wide application prospects in ETC with its Convenience and intelligent.

The rapid development of road network becomes the basis for economic development, while road network management system becomes the key for improving the operation-efficiency of road network. In recent years, drawing on the successful application abroad, electronic toll collection system (ETC) came to appear in China. However, unbalanced regional development and complex structure of road network in China becomes the barrier to the rapid development of ETC. This paper proposes a new internet-based ETC using WiFi technology with a less investment and widely applications.

Resumo: Este trabalho tem por objetivo avaliar o impacto da composição do tráfego e das condições de cobrança na capacidade de praças de pedágio. As variações das condições de cobrança de pedágio avaliadas neste estudo incluem reduções nos tempos de atendimento nas cabines manuais, bem como os impactos decorrentes da adoção, e crescente adesão, dos usuários à cobrança eletrônica de pedágio. As informações sobre tempos de atendimento utilizados no estudo correspondem a dados reais coletados em praças de pedágio do estado do Rio Grande do Sul. As análises foram realizadas a partir da simulação de uma praça de pedágio através do software de microssimulação VISSIM. Os resultados evidenciaram e quantificaram o aumento de capacidade das praças associado ao treinamento de arrecadadores e à adoção de tarifas que facilitam o troco. Neste estudo melhorias associadas a estas medidas corresponderam a um aumento de até 19% na capacidade da praça. Melhorias bem mais significativas de desempenho, entretanto, podem ser atingidas com o aumento da adesão dos usuários ao sistema de cobrança eletrônica de pedágio.Abstract: This study aims to assess the impact of the composition of traffic and charging conditions on the capacity of toll plazas. The toll charging conditions evaluated in this study include the reductions in service times at manual toll booths, the introduction of electronic toll collection and the increase in electronic collection compliance rates. Service times adopted in this study correspond to data collected at toll plazas of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Analyses presented in this paper are based on toll plaza simulations through the microsimulation software VISSIM. The simulation outcomes evidenced and quantified the capacity increase associated with collectors training and the adoption of fares that simplified the change. In this study, improvements associated with these measures corresponded to an increase of up to 19% of the plaza capacity. More significant improvements in performance, however, can be achieved by increasing the compliance of the electronic toll collection system.

With the development of expressway, the vehicle path recognition based on RFID is designed and an Electronic Toll Collection system of expressway will be implemented. It uses a passive RFID tag as carrier to identify Actual vehicle path in loop road. The ETC system will toll collection without parking, also census traffic flow and audit road maintenance fees. It is necessary to improve expressway management.

An ETC system based on RFID technology uses radio wave to identify cars passing through the toll collection site and automatically debits toll rate from the car owner's pre-paid account. RFID technology and its application in highway ETC system is analyzed in this paper. SNMP is a kind of protocol that has been widely used in network management system for many years. Because of its easy use and strong expansibility, SNMP is suitable for network management of ETC system. After introducing the basic knowledge of SNMP, this paper studies how to use SNMP to manage the RFID readers and the toll collection workstations remotely.

Currently, most electronic toll collection (ETC) systems around the world are implemented by DSRC (dedicated short range communication) technology. However global positioning system technique is applied to ETC to replace DSRC technique in recent years. It is an innovative technology for Expressway Network electronic toll collection solution, which is totally different scheme comparing to traditional DSRC-based technology. In this paper, the frame composing and working flow of the system are described, the design of GPS-based ETC system are discussed detailedly, and the advantages and disadvantages of the system are discussed at last.

Infrastructure-vehicle cooperative system called Smartway is currently promoted in Japan. National Institute for Land and Infrastructure Management (NILIM) under Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) plays a vital role to prompt the project under cooperation of public and private sector. Through the past experiences of ETC (Electronic Toll Collection System) and VICS (Vehicle Information and Communication System), it is recognized that joint research scheme is an effective way to implement infrastructure-vehicle cooperative system so that current research and development project is also forwarded under joint research scheme. This paper covers some of the past ITS projects in Japan and current research and development of the next-generation road services.

Providing real time traffic information is a key for effective implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). The main purpose of this paper is to introduce the recent technological trends of Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) applications for ITS and its economic evaluation, focusing on the City Bus Information System (CBIS) and Electronic Toll Collection System (ETC) in Korea. From a research perspective, it is necessary for the seamless development and maintenance of technical and competitive edges, and the proper budgetary allocation for research and development. Furthermore, the progressive participation of private companies that have the leading technologies on active DSRC is also required.

These days, increasing traffic volume makes congestion commonly around the tollgates of highway. So, reform measure of congestion around the tollgates is urgently required. One of the method is ETCS(electronic toll collection system), which mostly is studied recently. Several tollgates in Korea operates ETCS, named hi-pass system, as examples. However, actually it's too hard to build ETC systems in all tollgates because of system cost. Therefore we have studied indefatigably how to enhance efficiency of existing TCS(toll collecting system) with ETSC. Until Building ETC systems in all tollgates, several ways of TCS will have been operated mixedly. This study, therefore, has been aimed at developing the optimum operation method of combination ETCS and various TCSs. We develop a micro simulation model, which reproduces the operation states of various tollgate systems: waiting time, passing time. With this simulator, we proposed the optimal operation strategy of highway tollgate by benefit-cost analysis on the basis of benefit in saving total waiting time and operating cost.

The authors describe how research in automatic vehicle identification (AVI) technology can be transferred to practical transportation engineering situations. They focus on the development and implementation, for the Virginia Department of Transportation, of an AVI-based electronic toll collection system known as Fastoll. One of the most promising areas where the Fastoll system could be enhanced relatively easily is through the provision of improved real-time driver information for the avoidance of congestion. The authors consider the use of the Fastoll AVI technology to provide input to route guidance and other driver information systems. >

A 2.45 GHz electronic toll collection system has been developed. The system adopts the double orthogonal modulation (DOM) method and has stable data transmission characteristics. System configuration and key units are discussed. System test results are given and the results confirm the high performance of the system.

Based on the Nagel-Schreckenberg traffic flow model，the traffic flow models for electronic and manual toll collection systems are established. The fundamental diagrams of traffic flow are obtained under different parameters via computer simulation. Moreover, the characteristics of electronic and manual toll collection mixed system are analyzed and discussed.
