En av dessa teknologier är induktionshällen, som snabbt tar över som förstavalet för värmespis i hemmet. C3 Scandinavian Lifestyle ser därför potentialen för en perkulator som drivs direkt på induktionshällen och därmed eliminerar behovet av en separat värmeplatta med sladd till vägguttaget. Syftet med projektet var därmed att undersöka om detta var realiserbart, och isåfall utveckla en teknisk lösning med automatisk avstängning. Genom fysiska tester har det utretts om en perkulator anpassad till induktionshäll är i någon form en realiserbar lösning, vilket det är. Förslag på automatiska avslagning med hjälp av en mekanisk temperaturkänslig switch har utvecklats som teoretisk lösning. Vidare har ett utseende till produkten utvecklats som är anpassad efter skandinaviska kök. Utseendet är utvecklat efter en identifierad målgrupp och passar fortfarande in med C3 Scandinavian Lifestyles varumärke., C3 Scandinavian Lifestyle is a Swedish company that produces a wide range of household products. Among these are the company's best-selling series of percolators, of which the company has sold over one million units. With the development of the Scandinavian kitchen environments, new technical solutions are introduced to facilitate the kitchen experience. One of these technologies is the induction hob, which quickly takes over as the first choice for a heating stove in the home. C3 Scandinavian Lifestyle therefore sees the potential for a percolator that is operated directly on the induction hob and thus eliminates the need for a separate heating plate with a cord for the wall socket. The purpose of the project was thus to investigate whether this was feasible, and if so, to develop a technical solution with automatic shutdown. Through physical tests, it has been investigated whether a percolator adapted to induction hobs is in some form a realizable solution, which it is. Proposals for automatic shutdown using a mechanical temperature-sensitive switch have been developed as a theoretical solution. Furthermore, an appearance for the product has been developed that is adapted to Scandinavian kitchens. The appearance is developed according to an identified target group and still fits in with the C3 Scandinavian Lifestyle brand.

IntroductionSpinal cord infarction (SCInf) is a rare ischaemic event that manifests with acute neurological deficits. It is typically classified as either spontaneous, defined as SCInf without any inciting event, or periprocedural, which typically occur in conjunction with vascular surgery with aortic manipulations. While periprocedural SCInf has recently been the subject of intensified research, especially focusing on the primary prevention of this complication, spontaneous SCInf remains less studied. Methods and analysisElectronic databases, including PubMed, Web of Science and Embase, will be searched using the keywords "spinal cord", "infarction", "ischemia" and "spontaneous". The search will be set to provide only English studies published from database inception. Editorials, letters and reviews will also be excluded. Reference lists of relevant records will also be searched. Identified studies will be screened for inclusion, by one reviewer in the first step and then three in the next step to decrease the risk of bias. The synthesis will address several topics of interest including epidemiology, presentation, diagnostics, treatment strategies, outcomes and predictors. The review aims to gather the body of evidence to summarise the current knowledge on SCInf. This will lead to a better understanding of the condition, its risk factors, diagnosis and management. Moreover, the review will also provide an understanding of the prognosis of patients with SCInf with respect to neurological function, quality of life and mortality. Finally, this overview of the literature will allow the identification of knowledge gaps to help guide future research efforts. Ethics and disseminationEthics approval was not required for our review as it is based on existing publications. The final manuscript will be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal.

Purpose: This review provides an overview of the patent literature on posteriorly placed intrapedicular bone anchors. Conventional pedicle screws are the gold standard to create a fixation in the vertebra for spinal fusion surgery but may lack fixation strength, especially in osteoporotic bone. The ageing population demands new bone anchors that have an increased fixation strength, that can be placed safely, and, if necessary, can be removed without damaging the surrounding tissue. Methods: The patent search was conducted using a classification search in the Espacenet patent database. Only patents with a Cooperative Patent Classification of A61B17/70 or A61B17/7001 concerning spinal positioners and stabilizers were eligible for inclusion. The search query resulted in the identification of 731 patents. Based on preset inclusion criteria, a total of 56 unique patents on different anchoring methods were included, reviewed and categorized in this study. Results: Five unique fixation methods were identified; (1) anchors that use threading, (2) anchors that utilize a curved path through the vertebra, (3) anchors that (partly) expand, (4) anchors that use cement and (5) anchors that are designed to initiate bone ingrowth. Of the anchor designs included in this study, eight had a corresponding commercial product, six of which were evaluated in clinical trials. Conclusion: This review provides insights into worldwide patented intrapedicular bone anchors that aim to increase the fixation strength compared to the conventional pedicle screw. The identified anchoring methods and their working principles can be used for clinical decision-making and as a source of inspiration when designing novel bone anchors., Medical Instruments & Bio-Inspired Technology

BACKGROUND: Symptomatic Chiari I malformation is treated with suboccipital decompression and C1 laminectomy. However, whether the dura should be opened (durotomy) or enlarged with a graft (duraplasty) remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: To compare outcomes in adult Chiari I malformation patients treated with duraplasty, durotomy, or without dural opening ("mini-decompression"). METHODS: A retrospective, multicenter, population-based cohort study was performed of all adult patients surgically treated for a Chiari I malformation at 3 regional neurosurgical centers between 2005 and 2017. Three different dura management strategies were favored by the participating hospitals, with data stratified accordingly. The primary outcome was measured using the Chicago Chiari Outcome Scale (CCOS), dichotomized into favorable (CCOS >= 13) or unfavorable (CCOS <= 12). Propensity score matching was used to adjust for potential confounders in outcome comparisons. RESULTS: In total, 318 patients were included, of whom 52% were treated with duraplasty, 37% with durotomy, and 11% with mini-decompression. In total, 285 (90%) showed a favorable surgical outcome (CCOS >= 13). Duraplasty was associated with more favorable CCOS and shorter hospital stay compared with durotomy, both in unadjusted (93% vs 84%. P = .018 and 6.0 vs 8.0 days, P < .001) and adjusted analyses (92% vs 84%, P = .044 and 6.0 vs 8.0 days, P < .001). Mini-decompression was excluded from the adjusted analyses because of its small sample size. CONCLUSION: In this study of adult Chiari I malformation, posterior fossa decompression with duraplasty was associated with more favorable postoperative outcome, as determined by the CCOS, compared with posterior fossa decompression with durotomy alone.

The aim of this Master Thesis is to find the most suitable amount of photovoltaic (PV) panels to sustain an off-grid thermal energy storage (TES) system and to compare a maximum power point tracker (MPPT) with a pulse width modulator (PWM) in order to analyze which one of them that best suits the system. The purpose is to provide feedback on the design of the electrical part of the system in order to make it suitable for testing in a school in an Uganda refugee camp. This is done by developing a simulation model and by performing an economical analysis of the system. Additionally, visits to the considered refugee camps are done. The results are based on data from the camps and interviews at the Physics department at Makerere University and consider the number of meals cooked by the TES as well as economical profitability and payback time. The recommended amount of PV panels is nine and the recommended controller is an MPPT. The simulation shows that the system reaches a point where an increasing number of panels doesn't increase the number of cooked meals by much. The economic analysis shows that this small increase is not enough to make up for the extra costs of adding more PV panels. Having a lower cost, PWM is preferred in the early years by the economic analysis. However, having a low efficiency, it is less superior to the MPPT. The payback time and revenue are better for the MPPT in the investigated cases. It is important to consider that the model doesn't show reality to a full extent. Experiments are made where it is found that the model is inaccurate on an hourly level but can be considered valid over longer periods of time. When choosing the results, a trade-off is made between maximizing the revenue or shortening the payback time of the TES system. Considering rough circumstances and the uncertain future of the camps existence, short payback time is chosen. This results in nine panels being the optimum amount.
