Functional Movement Screen®(FMS®) allows to assess athlete’s movement functionality. Movement funcionality in young elite and non-elite swimmers may predict future performance. The purpose of this study is to compare FMS®scores between young elite and non-elite swimmers, and to verify their relationship with 100m freestyle performance. Thirty-two elite swimmers (age: 14.99 ± 0.13 years old; height: 1.71 ± 0.02 m; body mass: 61.28 ± 1.27 kg; Fédération Internationale de Natation [FINA] points: 651.59 ± 6.44) and 17 non-elite swimmers (age: 14.65 ± 0.19 years old; height: 165.12 ± 2.03 cm; body mass: 57.22 ± 2.43 kg; FINA points: 405.71 ± 21.41) volunteered to participate in this cross-sectional study. Individual-test FMS®scores, FMS®composite score and FINA points were considered for analysis.Elite swimmers achieved higher Deep Squat (p= 0.005; ES = 0.99), Right Hurdle Step (p= 0.005; ES = 0.99), Left Hurdle Step (p= 0.002; ES = 1.08), Trunk Stability Push Up (p< 0.001; ES = 1.44) and FMS®composite (p< 0.001; ES = 1.35) scores compared to non-elite swimmers. FMS®composite scores were positively related with 100m freestyle performance (r = 0.596, r2= 40.9%, p< 0.001).Young non-elite swimmers reveal functional deficits in tasks involving mobility of the hips, knees and ankles, and stabilization of the core and spine. Higher movement functionality is positively related with 100m freestyle performance. Swimming coaches should consider these deficits and their relationship with performance to differentiate exercise prescription between this populations.

- Abstract
The study aims to identify and understand the consequences of sedentary behavior on the psychosocial well-being of the elderly with low levels of physical activity. Participated in the study 14 elderly (M = 67 years old; PD = 1.4). The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed according to the procedures of the thematic analysis. It was identified that the different dimensions of sedentary behavior (the type of sedentary behavior, interruption of sedentary behavior, uninterrupted sitting time, and frequency) can influence the psychosocial well-being of the elderly. Also, three indicators ( perception of improvement and maintenance of cognitive functions, perception of positive affective states, and perceived social interaction) associated with the promotion of psychosocial well-being of the elderly and two indicators (perception of diminishing social relations and perception of mental fatigue symptoms) that may contribute to its deterioration were identified. The results of this study can be useful for the development of interventions that aim to reduce the daily sedentary time of the elderly and increase the usual levels of physical activity., As evidências científicas sugerem que o excesso de comportamento sedentário é um fator de risco para a saúde física dos idosos, independentemente dos seus níveis de atividade física.
The ability to generate and control mental images is present in all of us, but it differs from person to person. Therefore, it is important to understand that imagery ability can be changed through training and experimentation, it is not a fixed ability. The aim of this study is to compare imagery ability in elite, sub-elite and non-elite athletes in a sport which involves closed and continuous motor skills, such as swimming. 79 swimmers (male N = 37; female N = 42) at an average age of 17 took part in this study. In order to assess imagery ability, the Movement Imagery Questionnaire 3 was used, Portuguese version (Mendes et al., 2016). After analysis of the results, these show that in each and every imagery modality, the scores in the three groups differ significantly. In kinesthetic and external visual imagery the elite and sub-elite groups’ scores, although not statistically different from each other, are significantly higher than those of the non-elite group. In internal visual imagery, the differences between all the compared pairs of groups are statistically significant. The elite group got the highest scores, followed by the sub-elite group average scores and finally the non-elite group average scores. According to these results, the conclusion is that athletes with better performance show greater imagery ability and that apparently the external visual imagery proved to be the best intervention method among swimming athletes.

ABSTRACT The present study on the motor development of children in the first months of life aimed to verify the relationship between Motor Skills and Age, and the relationship between Global and Fine motor skills in children from 12 to 46 months. For this purpose, we developed a transversal quantitative study, with a sample of 405 children between the ages of 12 and 46 months of both genders. The instruments used in the study were the Peabody Developmental Motor Scales-2 (PDMS-2). Overall, the results indicate that there is a tendency for positive (mostly moderate and low) positive correlations between the variables Age, Global Motor Skills and Fine Motor Skills, emphasizing the moderate positive correlation (p≤0.05; r2=0.265; 0.5≤ r ≤ 0.7) between Age and Fine Motricity in turn a small positive correlation (p≤0.05; r2=0.217; 0.1≤ r ≤ 0.3) between Age and Global Motricity. We can thus see an improvement of these abilities as children grow, emphasizing better results in Fine Motor.

- Abstract
The purpose of this study was to verify the relation between sedentary time and physical activity levels (light to moderate to vigorous) on spirometric values in the elderly. In addition, we aimed to assess the effects of the implementation of the Global Recommendations of Physical Activity. Seventy-seven elderly (71.90 ± 5.50 years) of both genders volunteered to participate in this cross-setional study, being divided into an active group (n= 37) (70.76 ± 4.91 years) and an inactive group (n= 40) (72.95 ± 5.87 years) according to the established guidelines. Sedentary and physical activity times were assessed using an ActiGraph® GT1M accelerometer. The Spirometer Microquark of Cosmed® was used to evaluate the spirometric values. Data analysis was based on descriptive, inferential and magnitude effects. There were no significant correlations between sedentary time and physical activity (light and moderate to vigorous) with spirometric values, nor were there significant differences between groups. Our results are clear as to the absence of significant statistical evidence about the relationship between the analyzed variables, O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar a relação entre o tempo sedentário e os níveis de atividade física (leve e moderada a vigorosa) nos valores espirométricos em idosos. ABSTRACT: This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of imagery training in imagery ability in Boccia practitioners. A total of forty-two Boccia practitioners participated on the study: 24 federated and 18 amateurs. The group was divided in two sub-groups: an experimental group that performed regular training with imagery training (n=21, 12 federated and 9 amateurs) and a control group that was submitted to regular training without imagery training (n=21, 12 federated and 9 amateurs). Participants completed the Movement Imagery Questionnaire-3 (MIQ-3) adapted to Portuguese population. Statistics was carried out following the method of magnitude based inferences. In baseline, both groups were quite homogeneous in the visual mental imagery ability. In second evaluation moment, results revealed that, in general, experimental group (federated and amateur) significantly improved imagery ability reversely to the control group (federated and amateur) that maintained baseline scores. At the end, amateurs from the experimental group, revealed a higher increase imagery ability compared to federated participants. These results highlight the effectiveness of the inclusion of visual mental imagery training into Boccia program training due to the improvement of visual mental imagery abilities on these practitioners.

- Abstract
Background: Monitoring training load and competition load is crucial for evaluating and improving athlete performance. This study proposes an applied approach to characterize and classify the training task specificity in relation to competition in a top-level rink hockey team, considering external and internal load from training tasks and competition.Hypothesis: Training tasks and game demands have significant dose-response differences, and exercises can be classified successfully based on their physiological and biomechanical demands.Study Design: Cross-sectional study.Level of Evidence: Level 5.Methods: Ten elite-level male rink hockey players participated in this study. Players were monitored on 6 different task categories during 8 training sessions and 2 official games. A linear mixed model with random intercepts was used to compare training tasks and competition load, accounting for individual repeated measures. A 2-step cluster analysis was performed to classify the training tasks and games based on physiological and biomechanical load, employing log-likelihood as the distance measure and Schwartz’s Bayesian criterion. Results: Average heartrate , maximum heartrate, and high-speed skating (18.1-30 km/h) were the best physiological load predictors, while the most effective biomechanical load predictors were impacts [8-10] g(n), decelerations [-10 to -3]m/s²(n), and accelerations [3-10]m/s²(n). Different physiological and biomechanical responses were verified between training tasks and match demands. A 4-quadrant efforts assessment for each task category revealed that training tasks used by the team in the analysis presented lower biomechanical and physiological load demands than competition. Conclusion: Training tasks failed to adequately replicate the specific demands of competition, especially regarding high mechanical stress, such as the absence of high-intensity impacts and decelerations.Clinical Relevance: This method of classification of training tasks may allow coaches to understand further the specificity and contribution of each task to competition demands, consequently improving the capacity of load management and the preparedness and readiness of players for competition.

The aim of this study was to analyse and compare movement visualization ability in federate and nonfederate Boccia athletes, and among federate Boccia medical sport groups. Forty-two Boccia athletes (Federate N = 24; Non-federate N = 18) at an average age of 35.8 (SD = 11.19) participated in this study. The Portuguese version of Movement Imagery Questionnaire - 3 (MIQ-3), was used for this study. The participants were evaluated on the internal and external visual imagery. Statistics was carried out following the method of interference based on the magnitude of the effects. Results showed a great effect of expertise in imagery ability. The comparison between federate and non-federate Boccia athletes showed a great effect in the Internal Visual subscale and a moderate effect in the External Visual subscale. It was also observed differences between athletes from different medical-sports groups, revealing that the requirements of the sport linked to their action abilities provides them with different Imagery abilities. These results clearly influence the prescription of imagery training programs for different groups taking into account different medical-practice groups. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Objectives: The aim of this study is to analyse the adaptations of the autonomic nervous system after a musculoskeletal injury, obtained by measuring heart rate variability in athletes. It was hypothesized that there is an alteration in heart rate variability after a musculoskeletal injury., Study Design: Cohort study., Subjects: 15 semi-professional soccer players from three football teams, aged between 21 and 33 (mean age: 29.4 ± 3.31 years), with a recent musculoskeletal injury., Methods: Heart rate variability was collected using the Polar m200 and the chest strap H10 in two moments: within 72 h after the injury and between 5 and 7 days after full return-to-play., Results: Results show differences between T1 and T2 (p ≤ 0.05) in low-frequency power (n.u.) (p = 0.001) and high-frequency power (n.u.) (p = 0.001), in low-frequency/high-frequency ratio (p = 0.001) and in high-frequency power (ms2) (p = 0.017) measures. No statistical differences were found in low-frequency power (ms2) (p = 0.233). The low frequency power (n.u.) was significantly lower after injury compared with LF power (n.u.) values after full return-to-play. In high-frequency power there was a significant difference between both moments with high values after injury., Conclusions: The use of heart rate variability therefore seems to be promising to detect an imbalance in the autonomic nervous system and help clinical departments to identify a possible non-traumatic musculoskeletal injury. Further research should be performed considering a wide range of musculoskeletal injuries and to establish baseline values of the athletes.

- Abstract
Introduction: This study aimed to verify the typology and incidence of injury by comparing the different competitive levels of futsal during the preseason., Methods: The sample consisted of 68 senior male futsal players (24.26 ± 4.63 years). Data were collected using an injury recording grid that examined the affected body part, anatomical region, type of injury, mechanism, and severity., Results: It was found that the elite group has the lowest incidence rate of injury (4.8 injuries per 1,000 h of exposure) compared to the sub-elite (11.8 injuries per 1,000 h of exposure) and amateur groups (13.9 injuries per 1,000 h of exposure). However, at this level, there is the highest percentage of injury occurrence (38.5%), the lower limb was the most affected part of the body (30.8%), and ligament (23.1%) and muscle (15.4%) injuries are the most prevalent. The most frequent mechanism of injury was non-traumatic (30.8%), and the majority were moderate injuries in the elite (23.1%) and sub-elite (17.9%) groups and severe injuries in the amateur group (12.5%)., Discussion: The amateur futsal players had the highest incidence of injury during the preseason period compared to the other competitive levels. Still, it was at the elite level where the highest percentage of injuries occurred, most of them non-traumatic and of ligament origin, primarily affecting the ankle region. The results highlight the importance of adopting specific injury prevention programs for ligament and muscle injuries during the preseason phase, regardless of the competitive level., Competing Interests: The authors declare that the research was conducted in the absence of any commercial or financial relationships that could be construed as a potential conflict of interest., (© 2024 Marques, Rebelo, Crisóstomo, Honório, Duarte-Mendes, Petrica and Serrano.)
