HIV disproportionately affects men who have sex with men and transwomen in Latin America. Globally, efforts to map, enumerate, and describe male and transwomen sex workers (MTSWs) are limited. We mapped and described venue- and non-venue-based MTSWs and enumerated venuebased MTSWs in Lima, Peru's capital. With venue-based MTSWs, we identified and described the venues, SWs, and clients and enumerated the SWs. With non-venue-based MTSWs, we described SW offerings and SWs. Male SWs (MSWs) are concentrated downtown, with many moving online. Transwomen SWs (TSWs) are spread across metropolitan Lima, with fewer online. At venues, there are more TSWs than MSWs, TSWs reported more HIV and sexual risk behaviors, and MSWs had more female partners. Non-venue-based MSWs used condoms less than venue-based MSWs. Results support systematic efforts to describe hard-to-reach MTSWs and their different types of partners, all of whom have unique, differing needs for HIV/ STI education, prevention, testing, and care services.

Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to (I) evaluate the evidence on the effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) in hypertensive patients; (II) determine whether HIIT impacts SBP and DBP differently; and (III) assess the clinical relevance of these effects. Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted across multiple electronic databases, resulting in the inclusion of seven randomized clinical trials in the meta-analysis. The outcomes were analyzed using random-effects models to compute mean differences (MD) and standardized mean differences (SMD) for SBP and DBP. Results: A small reduction in SBP was observed with HIIT interventions (MD −3.00; 95% CI −4.61 to −1.39; p < 0.0001; SMD −0.28; 95% CI −0.42 to −0.13; p = 0.0003). However, no statistically significant reductions were detected for DBP (MD −0.70; 95% CI −1.80 to 0.39; p = 0.21; SMD −0.07; 95% CI −0.22 to 0.08; p = 0.35). Despite demonstrating statistical significance for SBP, the effects did not reach clinical relevance. Conclusions: HIIT interventions yield small reductions in SBP, with minimal impact on DBP. These findings suggest limited clinical relevance in the management of hypertension. Further randomized controlled trials are necessary to standardize HIIT protocols, with specific emphasis on intensity control and manipulation, to better understand their potential role in hypertensive populations. This study is aimed at the in situ preparation and antibacterial study of silver nanoparticles within the matrix of an eco‐friendly, biocompatible, biodegradable, and bioavailable biopolymer (chitosan) to form Chi–AgNP film via multiple noncovalent interactions between the organic polymer and the nanoparticles. The film is fully characterized by infrared and ultraviolet spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The characterization confirms the successful incorporation of silver nanoparticles into the polymeric network. Infrared spectroscopy reveals peaks corresponding to the vibration of functional groups present in chitosan with enhanced intensity and blueshifts caused by the presence of silver nanoparticles. Well‐monodispersed spherical silver nanoparticles with an average size of 10 nm are observed in the Chi–AgNP film. The surface plasmon resonance at 447 nm is consistent with a typical silver plasmon. Furthermore, the antibacterial effects on E. coli and S. aureus were determined and attributed to the release of AgNPs observed by UV absorption. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives –To determine the socio-demographics, sexual practices, and HIV prevalence of male sex workers (MSWs), transwomen sex workers (TSWs), and their male clients in Lima, Peru.Methods –Following ethnographic mapping of sex work venues, we revisited randomly selected venues to survey MSWs, TSWs and their clients.Results –MSWs and TSW clients are more educated than MSW clients and TSWs. Only 50% of TSW clients have received HIV testing. Self-reported HIV positivity is highest among MSW clients and TSWs.Conclusion –Notable differences exist between MSWs and TSWs and their clients that can affect the health of these groups and warrant intervention.

In the field of sports performance, sports medicine, and physical rehabilitation, there is a great interest in the development of protocols and reliable techniques and instruments for the evaluation of strength produced by athletes. In the last ten years, women's football has increased its popularity and participation in numerous countries, which has contributed to players developing more professionally and requiring more specific muscle strength training to improve their performance. The aim of this study was to analyze the absolute and relative test–retest reliabilities of peak muscle strength in knee flexion (FLE) and extension (EXT) controlled using a functional electromechanical dynamometer (FEMD) in a group of seventeen professional female soccer players (age = 18.64 ± 0.62 years; weight = 54.72 ± 7.03 kg; height = 1.58 ± 0.04 m; BMI = 21.62 ± 2.70 kg/m2). Peak muscle strength was measured with knee flexion (FLE) and extension (EXT) movements at a speed of 0.4 m·s−1 unilaterally in a concentric phase (CON) and an eccentric phase (ECC). No significant mean differences were found in the test–retest analysis (p > 0.05; effect size < 0.14), and high reliability was reported for peak muscle strength assessments in both the CON (ICC) = 0.90–0.95) and the ECC (ICC = 0.85–0.97). Furthermore, stable repeatability was presented for extension in the CON (CV = 7.39–9.91%) and ECC (CV = 8.65–13.64). The main findings of this study show that peak muscle strength in knee flexion and extension in CON and ECC is a measure with acceptable absolute reliability and extremely high relative reliability using the FEMD in professional female soccer players. In this work, hydrothermal methods and deep eutectic solvents were combined for the first time to prepare tungsten trioxide nanoparticles in an easy and green manner improving their optical and photochromic properties. Characterization of the synthesized nanoparticles was performed via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, ultraviolet visible spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray, transform electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, thermogravimetric analysis, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The average size of the spherical nanoparticles was ca. 1.83 nm as shown by TEM, and the nanoparticles exhibited high thermostability at least until 900 °C, and photostability and photosensitivity when they were exposed to UV light. Additionally, synthesized tungsten trioxide nanoparticles were found to be nontoxic with maximum cell viability observed even at 100 μg mL−1, making them potential candidates for biomedical applications. Background: Systematizing reliable protocols and procedures for strength assessment in handball has allowed for a more thorough kinetic analysis and increased precision in detecting training-induced changes in muscular strength. The evaluation of upper limb strength with a bilateral standing press (BSP) exercise in handball players approximates blocking actions in the defensive phase, pushing and fixation. Aim: The aim of this study was to analyze the relative and absolute reliability of intra-session comparisons in an isometric peak muscle strength protocol in a bilateral standing press (BSP) exercise among female handball players. Methods: Sixteen young female handball players at an international level, aged between 22 ± 4 years, with no prior experience in using functional electromechanical dynamometers (FEMD) participated in this study. The participants initiated the assessment of maximum isometric force in a bipedal stance with a forward projection of the dominant foot between 20 and 30 cm. The knees were kept semi-flexed, and the hip extension of the non-dominant limb ranged from 15 to 20°. Bilateral anterior push of the upper limb was performed with shoulder abduction and elbow flexion at 90°, maintaining a pronated hand position. Participants were instructed to exert three sets of maximal force for 5 s in BSP exercise. Relative reliability was assessed using the model intraclass correlation (ICC) and absolute reliability was assessed using the coefficient of variation (CV) and standard error of measurement (SEM). For this study, the parameters of maximum and mean muscle strength were considered. Results: The results demonstrated high relative reliability (ICC 0.93–0.97) and absolute reliability (SEM 0.19–2.79) y (CV 4.78–9.03) for both mean force and peak force, with no significant differences between the sets (p > 0.05), indicating a negligible effect size (0.01−0.12). Conclusion: The mean and peak isometric muscle strength for the BSP exercise controlled with FEMD in female handball players exhibits high relative and absolute reliability between series. Increasing the energy density and power of supercapacitors through hybrids of carbonaceous materials and metal oxides continues to be the subject of numerous research works. The correlation between specific capacitance and the properties of materials used as electrodes attracts great interest. In the present study, we investigated composites (GO/Mn3O4) prepared by the hydrothermal method with a variable ratio of GO/Mn3O4 and tested them as supercapacitor electrode materials in three- and two-electrode cells. The chemical characterization carried out by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and the adsorption techniques used allowed the determination of the surface carbon and oxygen content, as well as its textural properties. In this work, we analyzed the contribution of the double layer and the Faradaic reactions to the value of the final capacitance of the synthesized materials. Beyond empirically obtaining the electrochemical properties, these have been related to the physicochemical characteristics of the hybrids to help design materials with the best performance for supercapacitor electrodes.
