Metric fixed point theory refers to the fixed point theoretical results in which geometric conditions on the underlying spaces and or mappings play a crucial role. The first ever fixed point theorem in metric space appeared in explicit form in Banach's thesis, known as the "Banach Contraction Principle" (BCP), used to establish the existence of a solution to an integral equation. Due to its simplicity and elegant proof, it is perhaps the most widely applied fixed point theorem in many branches of mathematics. The BCP has been generalized in different directions. In the chapter presents some well known extensions and generalizations of BCP which play an important role in the development of metric fixed point theory.

In this paper, we introduce $\alpha-\psi$ type contractive mapping in rectangular metric space satisfying certain admissibility conditions and prove a fixed point result for such mapping in complete and Hausdorff rectangular metric space. Some examples are given to justify our result. Also we have shown that the existence of solution of a nonlinear fractional differential equation can be guaranteed, as an application of our result.

The purpose of this paper is to extend the notion of (phi,psi)-weak contraction to intuitionistic fuzzy metric spaces, by using an altering distance function. We obtain common fixed point results in intuitionistic fuzzy metric spaces, which generalize several known results from the literature.

In this paper, we obtain some unique common fixed point results for generalized cyclic contraction pair of mappings. These results establish some of the more general common fixed point theorems for two maps in metric spaces.

We introduce a new class of mappings satisfying the “common limit range property” in symmetric spaces and utilize the same to establish common fixed point theorems for such mappings in symmetric spaces. Our results generalize and improve some recent results contained in the literature of metric fixed point theory. Some illustrative examples to highlight the realized improvements are also furnished.

In this paper, we introduce a new class of operators called fuzzy-Preši´cCiri´c operators. For this type of operators, the existence and uniqueness of fixed point ´ in M-complete fuzzy metric spaces endowed with H-type t-norms are established. The results proved here generalize and extend some comparable results in the existing literature. An example is included which illustrates the main result of this paper. Moreover, some applications of our main theorem to the study of certain types of nonlinear differential equations are provided.

In this article, we introduced the best proximity point theorems for $\mathcal{Z}$-contraction and Suzuki type $\mathcal{Z}$-contraction in the setting of complete metric spaces. Also by the help of weak $P$-property and $P$-property, we proved existence and uniqueness of best proximity point. There is a simple example to show the validity of our results. Our results extended and unify many existing results in the literature. Moreover, an application to fractional order functional differential equation is discussed.

Motivated by Gopal et al. (Acta Math. Sci. 36B(3):1-14, 2016). We introduce the notion of α-type F-contraction in the setting of modular metric spaces which is independent from one given in (Hussain et al. in Fixed Point Theory Appl. 2015:158, 2015). Further, we establish some fixed point and periodic point results for such contraction. The obtained results encompass various generalizations of the Banach contraction principle and others.

In this paper, we introduce new concepts of α-type F-contractive mappings which are essentially weaker than the class of F-contractive mappings given in [21, 22] and different from α-GF-contractions given in [8]. Then, sufficient conditions for the existence and uniqueness of fixed point are established for these new types of contractive mappings, in the setting of complete metric space. Consequently, the obtained results encompass various generalizations of the Banach contraction principle. Moreover, some examples and an application to nonlinear fractional differential equation are given to illustrate the usability of the new theory.

The purpose of this paper is to improve certain results proved in a recent paper of Soliman et al. (20). These results are the outcome of utilizing the idea of absorbing pairs due to Gopal et al. (6) as opposed to two conditions namely: weak compatibility and the peculiar condition initiated by Pant (15) to ascertain the common xed points of Lipschitzian mappings. Some illustrative examples are also furnished to highlight the realized improvements.

The purpose of this paper is to prove some new common fixed point theorems in (GV)-fuzzy metric spaces. While proving our results, we utilize the idea of compatibility due to Jungck (Int J Math Math Sci 9:771–779, 1986) together with subsequentially continuity due to Bouhadjera and Godet-Thobie (arXiv: 0906.3159v1 [math.FA] 17 Jun 2009) respectively (also alternately reciprocal continuity due to Pant (Bull Calcutta Math Soc 90:281–286, 1998) together with subcompatibility due to Bouhadjera and Godet-Thobie (arXiv:0906.3159v1 [math.FA] 17 Jun 2009) as patterned in Imdad et al. (doi:10.1016/j.aml.2011.01.045) wherein conditions on completeness (or closedness) of the underlying space (or subspaces) together with conditions on continuity in respect of any one of the involved maps are relaxed. Our results substantially generalize and improve a multitude of relevant common fixed point theorems of the existing literature in metric as well as fuzzy metric spaces which include some relevant results due to Imdad et al. (J Appl Math Inform 26:591–603, 2008), Mihet (doi:10.1016/j.na.2010.05.044), Mishra (Tamkang J Math 39(4):309–316, 2008), Singh (Fuzzy Sets Syst 115:471–475, 2000) and several others.

In this work, we establish some fixed point theorems by revisiting the notion of ψ-contractive mapping in Menger PM-spaces. One of our results (namely, Theorem2.3) may be viewed as a possible answer to the problem of existence of a fixed point for generalized type contractive mappings in M-complete Menger PM-spaces under arbitrary t-norm. Some examples are furnished to demonstrate the validity of the obtained results.

Motivated by Samet et al. [Nonlinear Anal., 75(4) (2012), 2154-2165], we introduce the notions of alpha-phi -fuzzy contractive mapping and beta-psi-fuzzy contractive mapping and prove two theorems which ensure the existence and uniqueness of a fixed point for these two types of mappings. The presented theorems extend, generalize and improve the corresponding results given in the literature.

We establish some fixed point theorems by introducing two new classes of contractive mappings in Menger PM-spaces. First, we prove our results for an α - ψ -type contractive mapping and then for a generalized β -type contractive mapping. Some examples and an application to Volterra type integral equation are given to support the obtained results.

In this paper, we show by means of an example that the results of Babačev (Appl. Anal. Discrete Math. 6:257-264, 2012) do not hold for the class of t-norms T ≤ T p . Further, we prove a fixed point theorem for quasi-type contraction involving altering distance functions which is weaker than that proposed by Babačev but for any continuous t-norm in a complete Menger space. In this paper, the concepts of conditionally sequential absorbing and pseudo-reciprocal continuous maps are introduced in connection to giving a brief discussion on the role of various types of commutativity (e.g., weakly compatible, occasionally weakly compatible, subcompatible, pseudo-compatible, etc.) and continuity-type conditions (e.g., reciprocal, weak reciprocal, g-reciprocal, conditionally reciprocal, subsequential and sequential continuity of type ( A g ) and ( A f ) ) in the context of existence of common fixed points of a pair of maps. Here, the utility of newly introduced maps (i.e., conditionally sequential absorbing and pseudo-reciprocal continuous) in view of common fixed points for a pair of maps satisfying contractive as well as nonexpansive Lipschitz-type conditions is shown. In this article, we point out that some recent results proved in Babu and Alemayehu are corollaries of the main result of an article due to Ali and Imdad. However, combining the notions of R-weakly commuting property of type (Ag) (due to Pathak et al. together with sequential continuity of type (Ag) (to be introduced in this note) (also alternately R-weakly commuting property of type (Af) (due to Pathak et al.) together with sequential continuity of type (Af) (to be introduced in this note)) these results are improved which are possibly new results in the literature of metric fixed point theory. In this paper, we introduce cyclic weak $\phi-$contractions in fuzzy metric spaces and utilize the same to prove some results on existence and uniqueness of fixed point in fuzzy metric spaces. Some related results are also proved besides furnishing illustrative examples.

In this paper, common fixed point theorems for mappings satisfying a generalized contractive condition are obtained in symmetric spaces by using the notion of common property (E.A.). In the process, a host of previously known results are improved and generalized. We also derive results on common fixed point in probabilistic symmetric spaces.

We observe that the notion of common property (E.A.) relaxes the required containment of range of one mapping into the range of other which is utilized to construct the sequence of joint iterates. As a consequence, a multitude of recent fixed point theorems of the existing literature are sharpened and enriched.

The aim of this short communication is to provide an alternative of Bisht and Pant result (2013) [1, Theorem 1.2] in the context of framing proper setting for the application of occasionally weakly compatible mappings.

In this paper we prove common fixed point theorems in fuzzy metric spaces employing the notion of reciprocal continuity. Moreover we have to show that in the context of reciprocal continuity the notion of compatibility and semi-compatibility of maps becomes equivalent. Our result improves recent results of Singh & Jain [13] in the sense that all maps involved in the theorems are discontinuous even at common fixed point.

In this paper, we introduce the two new concepts of an α-type almost-F-contraction and an α-type F Suzuki contraction and prove some fixed point theorems for such mappings in a complete metric space. Some examples and an application to a nonlinear fractional differential equation are given to illustrate the usability of the new theory.

Inspired by the work of Dakjum et al. [Eshi, D., Das, P. K. and Debnath, P., Coupled coincidence and coupled common fixed point theorems on a metric space with a graph, Fixed Point Theory Appl., 37 (2016), 1–14], we introduce a new class of G − f−contraction mappings in complete fuzzy metric spaces endowed with a directed graph and prove some existence results for coupled coincidence and coupled common fixed point theorems of this type of contraction mappings in complete fuzzy metric spaces endowed with a directed graph.

The aim of this paper is to improve conditions proposed in recently published fixed point results for complete and compact fuzzy metric spaces (Ciric in Chaos Solitons Fractals 42:146-154, 2009; Shen et al. in Appl. Math. Lett. 25:138-141, 2012). For this purpose, the altering distance functions are used. Moreover, in some of the results presented the class of t-norms is extended by using the theory of countable extensions of t-norms. The mentioned generalizations are illustrated by examples.

Motivated by Abdeljawad (Fixed Point Theory Appl. 2013:19, 2013), we establish some common fixed point theorems for three and four self-mappings satisfying generalized Meir-Keeler α-contraction in metric spaces. As a consequence, the results of Rao and Rao (Indian J. Pure Appl. Math. 16(1):1249-1262, 1985), Jungck (Int. J. Math. Math. Sci. 9(4):771-779, 1986), and Abdeljawad itself are generalized, extended and improved. Sufficient examples are given to support our main results.

In this note we correct some errors that appeared in the article (Abdeljawad in Fixed Point Theory Appl. 2013:19, 2013) by modifying some conditions in the main theorems and by giving an example to support.

In this article, we utilize the notions of the property (E.A.) and common property (E.A.) in the setting of modified intuitionistic fuzzy metric spaces to prove a result interrelating the property (E.A.) with common property (E.A.). Also using the common property (E.A.), we prove some common fixed point theorems in modified intuition-istic fuzzy metric spaces satisfying an implicit relation. Some related results are also derived besides furnishing an illustrative example.

The purpose of this paper is to prove some fixed point theorems in a complete metric space equipped with a partial ordering using w-distances together with the aid of altering functions. MSC:54H25, 47H10.
