Over the years there has been many well documented cases of major oil pollution from leaked offshore oil rigs, ships in distress and from coastal oil facilities. In response to concerns about the possibility of a major oil spillage occurring along the coast of Guinea, the Guinean government drew up a plan and organisation. The purpose of this research was to develop Guinean Marine Oil Spill Response Information System. To do this, we simulated an oil spill concentration transport. The results show that the numerical model in oil spill accident simulation is important in allowing setting up of possible response and contingency planning. From the results we conclude that, the search strategies for futures responses and contingency planning to possible oil spill case in Guinean coasts has been clarified. Implications of research findings allow international community to consider reasonable estimation of spilled oil trajectory with limited environmental input data.

Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) is an ubiquitous persistent organic pollutant, which can be bioaccumulated and cause adverse effects on organisms. However, there is very limited information about the toxic effects of PFOS to marine organisms and its mechanisms. Therefore, in the present study, adult sea urchins Glyptocidaris crenularis were exposed to PFOS for 21 d, followed by a 7-d depuration period, in order to investigate the toxicity of PFOS to sea urchin and its potential epigenetic mechanisms. Sea urchins dropped spines, and lowered down the motor ability and feeding ability after the PFOS exposure. Superoxide dismutase activities in supernatant of coelomic fluid of sea urchin increased firstly and then dropped down, while the change of the catalase activity took an opposite trend during the exposure period. They both approached to the corresponding activity of the control after the depuration period. The DNA methylation polymorphism, methylation rate and demethylation rate in sea urchin gonad all increased following the prolonged exposure time, and then decreased after the depuration period. The demethylation rates were lower than the corresponding methylation rates, therefore methylation events were dominant during the whole experimental period. This might suggest that sea urchin have strong self-protection mechanisms and can survive from the PFOS exposure presented in this study. Further efforts are needed to more precisely investigate the DNA methylation effects of PFOS and the self-protection mechanism of sea urchin.

The paper aims at presenting the acute toxic effect of water-accommodated fractions（WAFS） of No.0 diesel oil on HOX1 gene of Hemicentrotus pulcherrimus by PCR-SSCP. The experiment was carried out with three concentrations(2mg/L, 5mg/L, 10mg/l). The results indicated that with the increase of exposure concentration and time, the probability of mutation increased. In the four primers, single base mutation took place in coding region of the 184 in primer N-2, with the conversion of T-C, where amino acid changed from serine into proline.

The Marine Oil Spill Response Information System, which serves as a decision support system designed to effectively response to the marine oil spill accidents, has been developed through the integration of a series of numerical models with the Geographic Information System (GIS). In the system, the three dimensional hydrodynamic model, oil spill trajectory and fate models are embedded in GIS. The oil spill response and environmental databases are also established to provide decision support to the emergency teams. Finally the function of the system is illustrated through a case study of an oil spill accident which happened at the Pearl River Estuary of Guangdong Province of China in December 2004. The simulation gave a reasonable estimation of spilled oil trajectory with limited environmental input data. The accurate prediction of the behavior of the spilled oil is crucial to the successful recovery operation and protection of marine environment.

The paper aims at present the acute toxic effect of water-accommodated fraction (WAFs) of No.0 diesel oil on embryos and larvae development of sea urchin, Hemicentrotus pulcherrimus by adopting embryonic development technology. The experiment was carried out with six concentrations. The results indicate that the water-accommodated fractions have evident toxic effect on two - arm and four - arm larvae. Compared with the control group, the larvae in the oil groups showed shorter body lengths and higher deformity and mortality rate by the increasing concentrations. The 48 h, 72 h EC50 is 3.39, 1.87 mg/l respectively.
