Abstract

A series of Mn2+-doped solid Zn3Ga2GeO8 materials with far-red broad-band emissions is prepared as promising candidates for light emitting diodes (LEDs) for application in indoor plant cultivation. Phosphor exhibits broad far-red emissions, ranging from 600 to 1100 nm which overlap with the absorption range of the phytochrome ( P fr ). In addition, the co-doping with Ca2+ contributes a 1.57-fold increase in the far-red-emission intensity at room temperature. Encapsulating phosphor onto ultraviolet LED chips yields far-red-emitting LED devices, which can be promising candidates for promoting indoor plant cultivation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

52. The Effect of Multiple Component Pricing Sytem on Productivity and Technical Efficiency of Ontario Dairy Farms

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of milk compositional pricing policy reforms (i.e., component pricing change, solids-non-fat to butterfat ratio standard, and Class 6/7 milk class pricing policy) on the technical efficiency and milk and milk components productivity of Ontario dairy farms using the Ontario Dairy Farm Accounting Project (ODFAP) data. In this study, a stochastic input distance function is estimated to assess the technical inefficiency of the sample farms. Results indicate that the component pricing change had a positive effect on the technical inefficiency of dairy farms. A fixed-effect panel regression model estimated the effect of the change in policies towards dairy farm productivity (i.e., milk yield per cow, protein yield per cow, and butterfat yield per cow). Therefore, the results indicate that the SNF: BF ratio standard had a positive effect on milk yield, protein yield, and butterfat yield per cow. However, the Class 6/7 milk class pricing policy had negative effects on milk and butterfat productivity.

Abstract

A type of evolutionarily conserved, noncoding, small, endogenous, single-stranded RNA, miRNAs are widely distributed in eukaryotes, where they participate in various biological processes as critical regulatory molecules. miR-1299 has mainly been investigated in cancers. miR-1299 is a tumor suppressor that regulates the expression of its target genes, activating or inhibiting the transcription of genes regulating biological activities including cell proliferation, migration, survival and programmed cell death. miR-1299 has become a hotspot in research of disease mechanisms and biomarkers; elucidation of the regulatory roles of miR-1299 in tumorigenesis, proliferation, apoptosis, invasion, migration and angiogenesis may provide a new perspective for understanding its biological functions as a tumor suppressor., Lay abstract As key regulatory molecules, microRNAs participate in various biological processes and have become a widespread research focus. This article discusses how the microRNA miR-1299 plays a role as a tumor suppressor and participates in the regulation of tumor pathogenesis. We provide an overview of the role of miR-1299 in tumor diseases and discuss the pathogenesis and regulation mechanisms of miR-1299 in different specific cancers.

Abstract

International audience; In the current big data era, the state-of-the-art optical data storage has become a frontrunner in the competing data storage technologies. In this work, we proposed an information storage prototype using optical stimulated luminescent phosphor of SrAl 12 O 19 : Mn 2+ , Gd 3+ , which converts the photon into trapped electrons and partial releases them in a form of luminescence when it is irradiated by infrared irradiation, rendering an optical information storaging ability. The information storage can be realized in both graphical and digital format. In this way, graphical patterns can be stored and rejuvenated by infrared irradiation, and a set of digital data is recorded step by step by a home-make decoding system, completing an optical data reading process. This work provides a practical example for future application of writing-storingreadout-erasing-rewriting integrated optical information storage.

58. 12/15-Lipoxygenase-Derived Electrophilic Lipid Modifications in Phagocytic Macrophages

Abstract

Macrophages remove apoptotic cells via phagocytosis, also known as efferocytosis, during inflammation to maintain tissue homeostasis. This process is accompanied by various metabolic changes in macrophages including the production of lipid metabolites by fatty acid oxygenases. Among these, highly reactive metabolites, called lipid-derived electrophiles (LDEs), modify cysteines and other nucleophilic amino acids in intracellular proteins. However, the landscape and functions of the modifications by these electrophilic metabolites have been poorly characterized. In this study, we used activity-based protein profiling to quantitatively profile the cysteine reactivity landscape and identify the potential targets of endogenous LDE modification during efferocytosis in mouse peritoneal macrophages. Using this methodology, we identified multiple cysteine sites that are highly likely to be modified by LDEs generated by 12/15-lipoxygenase (12/15-LOX), an efferocytosis-related fatty acid oxygenase that is highly expressed in peritoneal macrophages. Among these, actin-depolymerizing protein Cofilin-1 was found to be a target of 12/15-LOX-derived LDEs. In vitro Cofilin-1 activity was attenuated by 12/15-LOX-derived LDEs, and intracellular actin stabilization and efferocytosis were substantially enhanced by the LDE treatment of mouse peritoneal macrophages. These results highlighted the role of intracellular LDE modification during efferocytosis in macrophages.

Abstract

The Dishwasher is a 2D animated thesis film that lasts 5 minutes and 27 seconds. This animated short film shows a story of a young man, Kai, who dreams of becoming an artist in the US; however, he has to wash dishes for his living. One day, the dish machine is out of control because of Kai’s careless mistake. The manager sees the situation and begins to blame Kai. While the manager yells at him, Kai notices a funny animation loop appearing on the spinning dishes, which makes him laugh. After the manager leaves, Kai looks at his face reflected in the window of the dish machine and it reminds him of the old times when he learned drawing at art school. This coincidental memory sparks Kai’s passion for making art on the plates. Then, he starts to dance and decides to treat his job differently.

Abstract

The development of suitable alternatives to the energy-intensive and seriously polluting Haber–Bosch process for ammonia production is crucial. Photocatalytic nitrogen fixation has attracted extensive research attention as a pollution-free, low-cost, and sustainable ammonia production process. However, most reported photocatalysts so far have relatively low conversion rates for N 2 reduction. Herein, we employed a strategy based on bismuth precoordination and in-situ sulfurization strategy to grow highly dispersed bismuth sulfide (Bi 2 S 3) on a porous coordination network (PCN) metal–organic framework. The as-fabricated photocatalyst (Bi 2 S 3 @PCN-2) with high-density heterojunctions was used for the photocatalytic nitrogen fixation for ammonia production and degradation of bisphenol A, achieving an ammonia production rate of 3880 μg h−1 g−1 and a 96.4% degradation efficiency for bisphenol A within 30 min in the absence of a sacrificial agent. The abundant porphyrin rings and highly dispersed Bi 2 S 3 broadened the visible-light absorption range of the photocatalyst, leading to numerous photogenerated charge carriers. Additionally, the high-density heterojunctions facilitated the separation of photogenerated electron–hole pairs, resulting in excellent photocatalytic performance. This work provides a new approach for the design and preparation of bifunctional photocatalysts. • Bi 2 S 3 @PCN photocatalyst was prepared using a pre-coordination and in situ sulfurization method. • The dispersed Bi 2 S 3 forms abundant heterojunction with the MOF, promoting the separation of photo-induced charge carriers. • The photocatalytic nitrogen fixation for ammonia production and degradation of bisphenol A were successfully achieved. • The photocatalytic mechanism of the dual-functional Bi 2 S 3 @PCN photocatalyst was proposed. 79. Ni 2+ -Doped Garnet Solid-Solution Phosphor-Converted Broadband Shortwave Infrared Light-Emitting Diodes toward Spectroscopy Application.

Abstract

Broadband shortwave infrared (SWIR) light-emitting diodes (LEDs), capable of advancing the next-generation solid-state smart invisible lighting technology, have sparked tremendous interest and will launch ground-breaking spectroscopy and instrumental applications. Nevertheless, the device performance is still suppressed by the low quantum efficiency and limited emission bandwidth of the critical phosphor layer. Herein, we report a high-performance Ni 2+ -doped garnet solid-solution broadband SWIR emitter centered at ∼1450 nm with a large full-width at half-maximum of ∼300 nm, thereby fabricating, for the first time, a directly excited Ni 2+ -doped garnet solid-solution phosphor-converted broadband SWIR LED device. A synergetic enhancement strategy, adding a fluxing agent and a charge compensator simultaneously, is proposed to deliver a more than 20-fold increase of the SWIR emission intensity and nearly 2-fold improvement of the thermal quenching behavior. The site occupation and mechanism behind the synergetic enhancement strategy are elucidated by a combination of experimental study and theoretical calculation. A prototype of the SWIR LED with a radiation flux of 1.25 mW is fabricated and utilized as an invisible SWIR light source to demonstrate the SWIR spectroscopy applications. This work not only opens a window to explore novel broadband SWIR phosphors but also provides a synergetic strategy to remarkably improve the performance of artificial SWIR LED light sources.
