BackgroundDespite improved survival a substantial number of Fontan patients eventually develop late failure. Fontan-associated liver disease (FALD) is the most frequent end-organ dysfunction. Although impaired hemodynamics and Fontan failure correlate with FALD severity, no association between hepatic functional metabolic impairment and Fontan hemodynamics has been established.HypothesisMetabolic liver function measured by liver maximum function capacity test (LiMAx®) correlates with Fontan hemodynamics and Fontan failure.MethodsFrom 2020 to 2022, 58 adult Fontan patients [median age: 29.3 years, IQR (12.7), median follow-up time after Fontan operation: 23.2 years, IQR (8.7)] were analyzed in a cross-sectional study. Hemodynamic assessment included echocardiography, cardiopulmonary exercise testing and invasive hemodynamic evaluation. Fontan failure was defined based on commonly applied clinical criteria and our recently composed multimodal Fontan failure score.ResultsLiMAx® test revealed normal maximum liver function capacity in 40 patients (>315 μg/h*kg). In 18 patients a mild to moderate impairment was detected (140–314 μg/h*kg), no patient suffered from severe hepatic deterioration (≤ 139 μg/kg*h). Fontan failure was present in 15 patients. Metabolic liver function was significantly reduced in patients with increased pulmonary artery pressure (p = 0.041. r = −0.269) and ventricular end-diastolic pressure (p = 0.033, r = −0.325), respectively. In addition, maximum liver function capacity was significantly impaired in patients with late Fontan failure (289.0 ± 99.6 μg/kg*h vs. 384.5 ± 128.6 μg/kg*h, p = 0.007).ConclusionMaximum liver function capacity as determined by LiMAx® was significantly reduced in patients with late Fontan failure. In addition, elevated pulmonary artery pressure and end-diastolic ventricular pressure were associated with hepatic functional metabolic impairment.

Short-term glycemic variability is associated with the risk of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia in people living with type 1 diabetes and can potentially affect clinical outcomes. Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) is of increasing importance to evaluate glycemic variability in greater detail. Specific metrics for assessing glycemic variability were proposed, such as the SD of mean glucose level and associated coefficient of variation, and time in target glucose range to guide study designs, therapy and allow people with diabetes more transparency in interpreting their own CGM data. Randomized controlled trials (RCT) and real-world evidence provide complementary information about the efficacy/effectiveness and safety of interventions. Insulin glargine 300 U/mL (Gla-300) has a longer lasting and less variable action than insulin glargine U100 (Gla-100) with a lower risk of hypoglycemia. While insulin degludec U100 (iDeg-100) was associated with lower glucose values but more time below range in one randomized study compared with Gla-300, Gla-300 was associated with a higher per cent time in range, but also above the therapeutic range. However, a real-world study did not find differences during the day between Gla-300 and iDeg-100. The upcoming InRange RCT is the first head-to-head comparison of Gla-300 with iDeg-100 using CGM in an international population using CGM metrics as the primary endpoint. The non-interventional COMET-T real-world study will determine the real-world effectiveness of Gla-300 using CGM metrics and cover a broad spectrum of clinical practice decisions irrespective of the prior basal insulin.

Abstract Background In order to achieve an environmentally friendly and sustainable energy supply, it is necessary that this goal is supported by society. In different countries worldwide it has been shown that one way consumers want to support the energy transition is by switching to green electricity. However, few people make the leap from their intention to a buying decision. This study explores parameters that influence whether German consumers would hypothetically decide to switch to a green electricity tariff. Methods A quota-representative online survey including a discrete choice experiment with 371 German private households was conducted in 2016. For the econometric analysis, a generalized multinomial logit model in willingness-to-pay space was employed, enabling the estimation of WTP values to be as realistic as possible. Results The results show that consumers’ decision whether or not to make the switch to green energy is mainly influenced by the source of green energy, whether a person can outsource the switching process, and a person’s attitude towards the renewable energy sources levy that currently exist in Germany. Conclusions The findings indicate that politics should focus on supporting wind and solar energy as German consumers prefer these sources over biogas. As the results suggest, the EEG levy is a reason why consumers have lower WTP for switching to a green tariff. Therefore, a switching bonus with a specifically “framed” bonus in the amount of the current EEG levy could be a promising strategy for the increase of green energy tariff acceptance. Furthermore, attention should be given to psychological and behavioral aspects, as the results indicate that these factors influence the consumer’s choice for a green electricity tariff.

Abstract Background Recent European Society of Cardiology (ESC)/European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) guidelines provide recommendations for detecting and treating chronic kidney disease (CKD) in diabetic patients. We compared clinical practice with guidelines to determine areas for improvement. Methods German database analysis of 675,628 patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, with 134,395 included in this analysis. Data were compared with ESC/EASD recommendations. Results This analysis included 17,649 and 116,747 patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, respectively. The analysis showed that 44.1 and 49.1 % patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, respectively, were annually screened for CKD. Despite anti-diabetic treatment, only 27.2 % patients with type 1 and 43.5 % patients with type 2 achieved a target HbA1c of 65 years). Renin angiotensin aldosterone inhibitors were used in 24.0 and 40.9 % patients with type 1 diabetes (micro- vs. macroalbuminuria) and 39.9 and 47.7 %, respectively, in type 2 diabetes. Conclusions Data indicate there is room for improvement in caring for diabetic patients with respect to renal disease diagnosis and treatment. While specific and potentially clinically justified reasons for non-compliance exist, the data may serve well for a critical appraisal of clinical practice decisions.

In this article, I examine two case studies of socially engaged art projects led by Cuban artists René Francisco Rodríguez and Lázaro Saavedra in the 1990s in Havana, Cuba. These professional artist--educators began defining curricula, art-based methodologies, and practices within tertiary art education in Cuba, re-enunciating their role of civic responsibility in society. Collaborative artistic proposals then emerged as forms of learning, encouraging problem-solving strategies when interacting with communities in situ and with the public, which I term "author pedagogies." First, I analyze the Cuban sociopolitical scenario that led to the birth of these socially engaged art (SEA) projects, considering their relations with the neo-avant-garde and the expanded notion of art. Second, I examine the modus operandi of SEA projects, aided by Mikhail Bakhtin's dialogical and carnivalesque notions, among others. These approaches demonstrate the significance of these author pedagogies in understanding "thyself" as a form of "another" transcultural subject.

Plasmodium vivax variant interspersed repeats (vir) refer to the key protein used for escaping the host immune system. Knowledge in the genetic variation of vir genes can be used for the development of vaccines or diagnostic methods. Therefore, we evaluated the genetic diversity of the vir genes of P. vivax populations of several Asian countries, including Pakistan, which is a malaria-endemic country experiencing a significant rise in malaria cases in recent years. We analyzed the genetic diversity and population structure of 4 vir genes (vir 4, vir 12, vir 21, and vir 27) in the Pakistan P. vivax population and compared these features to those of the corresponding vir genes in other Asian countries. In Pakistan, vir 4 (S=198, H=9, Hd=0.889, Tajima's D value=1.12321) was the most genetically heterogenous, while the features of vir 21 (S=8, H=7, Hd=0.664, Tajima's D value=−0.63763) and vir 27 (S=25, H=11, Hd=0.682, Tajima's D value=−2.10836) were relatively conserved. Additionally, vir 4 was the most genetically diverse among Asian P. vivax populations, although within population diversity was low. Meanwhile, vir 21 and vir 27 among all Asian populations were closely related genetically. Our findings on the genetic diversity of vir genes and its relationships between populations in diverse geographical locations contribute toward a better understanding of the genetic characteristics of vir. The high level of genetic diversity of vir 4 suggests that this gene can be a useful genetic marker for understanding the P. vivax population structure. Longitudinal genetic diversity studies of vir genes in P. vivax isolates obtained from more diverse geographical areas are needed to better understand the function of vir genes and their use for the development of malaria control measures, such as vaccines. Gender determination in incubated eggs (in ovo) has the potential to substitute the highly discussed practice of culling male layer chicks. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect pictures have on peoples' preferences toward in ovo sexing at different stages of embryonic development and chick culling. For this purpose, an online survey was conducted with a representative sample of 482 respondents in Germany. A within-subject design with 2 choice experiments was used to investigate the influence pictures have on respondents' preferences and willingness to pay. The first-choice experiment contained plain text only; the second contained also pictures of a chick or the incubated eggs at the corresponding stages of development. Findings reveal that in ovo gender determination at each proposed day of incubation (d1, d4, and d9) was preferred to chick culling. In ovo screening on d1 and d4 was significantly preferred to d9. This preference for early gender determination increased significantly as a consequence to the provision of pictures. Results furthermore reveal that a high error rate of gender determination or the lack of a meaningful utilization of incubated eggs can decrease approval for in ovo gender determination to an extent, where no positive willingness to pay remains. Findings of this study are useful for stakeholders in poultry production when considering the implementation of in ovo gender determination as a morally admissible substitute to chick culling.

Abundance of Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, a dominant bacterium of the human microbiota that exhibits antiinflammatory effects, is decreased in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). In humans, colonic lamina propria contains IL-10–secreting, Foxp3– Tregs characterized by a double expression of CD4 and CD8α (DP8α) and a specificity for F. prausnitzii. This Treg subset is decreased in IBD. The in vivo effect of DP8α cells has not been evaluated yet to our knowledge. Here, using a humanized model of a NSG immunodeficient mouse strain that expresses the HLA D–related allele HLA-DR*0401 but not murine class II (NSG-Ab° DR4) molecules, we demonstrated a protective effect of a HLA-DR*0401–restricted DP8α Treg clone combined with F. prausnitzii administration in a colitis model. In a cohort of patients with IBD, we showed an independent association between the frequency of circulating DP8α cells and disease activity. Finally, we pointed out a positive correlation between F. prausnitzii–specific DP8α Tregs and the amount of F. prausnitzii in fecal microbiota in healthy individuals and patients with ileal Crohn’s disease.

Objetivou-se avaliar as características microbiológicas e físico-químicas do fluido ruminal e histológicas do trato gástrico intestinal (TGI) de ovinos sob dieta de alto grão com probiótico fungos Aspergillus terreus e/ou Rhizomucor spp. Analisou-se quatro probióticos (sem inóculos, com Rhizomucor spp., com Aspergillus terreus e com mistura dos dois fungos) e dois processamentos de milho (moído/inteiro), em fatorial 4x2 em em Delineamento Inteiramente Casualizados (DIC). Borregos Santa Inês/Dorper foram alojados em oito baias com cinco borregos em cada, durante 75 dias. Coletou-se fluido ruminal para o estudo do perfil microbiológico do rúmen, da característica macroscópica, da concentração de nitrogênio amoniacal e da atividade microbiológica, além dos fragmentos do TGI para análises histológicas. Pelas análises dos fluidos, os animais apresentaram baixo índice de acidose. O odor aromático e a cor castanho-enegrecido predominaram, o que caracteriza ambiente com pH neutro. As amostras do fluido apresentaram alta atividade microbiana. O pH ruminal diferenciou-se (P0,05) (bactérias Lac+ e Lac-, fungos, leveduras e protozoários). Seis gêneros de fungos anaeróbicos facultativos foram identificados num total de 15 observações. O Cladosporium spp. foi o gênero mais prevalente (46,66%), seguido do Aspergillus spp. (26,66%). ObjectivesDespite the outstanding success of the Fontan operation, it is a palliative procedure and a substantial number of patients experience late failure of the Fontan circulation. Clinical presentation and hemodynamic phenotypes of Fontan failure are considerably variable. While various parameters have been identified as risk factors for late Fontan failure, a feasible score to classify Fontan failure and possibly allow timely risk stratification is lacking. Here, we explored the possibility of developing a score based on hemodynamic, clinical and laboratory parameters to classify Fontan failure and mortality.MethodsWe performed a retrospective study in our cohort of adult Fontan patients from two institutions [n = 198, median follow-up after Fontan 20.3 (IQR 15.6–24.3) years], identifying those patients with clinical Fontan failure (n = 52, 26.3%). Various hemodynamic, echocardiographic, laboratory and clinical data were recorded and differences between patients with and without Fontan failure were analyzed. We composed a Fontan Failure Score containing 15 parameters associated with Fontan failure and/or mortality and assessed its accuracy to discriminate between patients with and without late Fontan failure as well as late mortality and survival.ResultsLate failure occurred at a median of 18.2 (IQR 9.1–21.1) years after Fontan completion. Mortality associated with Fontan failure was substantial (25/52, 48.1%) with freedom of death/transplantation/take-down of 64% at 5 years and 36% at 10 years after onset of Fontan failure, respectively. Patients with Fontan failure had a significantly higher median Fontan Failure Score compared to non-failing Fontan patients [8 points (IQR 5–10) vs. 2 points (IQR 1-5), p < 0.001]. The score accurately classifies Fontan failure as well as mortality as assessed with receiver operating characteristic analysis. Area under the curve of the Fontan Failure Score was 0.963 (95% CI 0.921; 0.985, p < 0.001) to discriminate failure and 0.916 (95% CI 0.873; 0.959, p < 0.001) to classify mortality.ConclusionWe have developed an uncomplex yet remarkably accurate score to classify Fontan failure and late mortality in adult Fontan patients. Prospective validation and most likely refinement and calibration of the score in larger and preferably multi-institutional cohorts is required to assess its potential to predict the risk of Fontan failure and late mortality.

Demographic trends suggest that most Latino and Black schoolchildren attending city schools will have White classroom teachers. Consequently, the potential for cultural mismatches may impede meaningful teaching. In response, many teacher educators mull over approaches to prepare student teachers to effectively instruct all schoolchildren, especially Latino and Black youngsters. While many approaches, particularly methods pertinent to multicultural education, have become commonplace throughout teacher education programs, purposeful consultations between student teachers and schoolchildren about teaching and learning, are rare. This paper presents a "critical consultative interaction" model, comprising "the three r's" of: (a) regarding Black and Latino schoolchildren as resources, (b) raising the right questions of them, and, (c) reflecting on schoolchildren's responses, as an additional approach to prepare student teachers for city classrooms. Implementing this model positions future teachers to obtain pedagogical information from schools' primary constituents--schoolchildren. Doing so exemplifies democratic practice in a political yet public place called school. (Contains 1 footnote.)

Objectives: Fontan-associated liver disease (FALD) is the most common end-organ dysfunction affecting up to 70–80% of the Fontan population. The clinical significance of FALD is incompletely understood and no unambiguous correlation between hepatic function and FALD severity has been established. In this study, we sought to evaluate maximal liver function capacity with liver maximum function capacity test (LiMAx®) in adult Fontan patients.Methods: Thirty-nine adult Fontan patients (median age: 29.4 years [IQR 23.4; 37.4], median follow-up after Fontan operation: 23.9 years [IQR 17.8;26.4]) were analyzed in a cross-sectional observational study using LiMAx® test (Humedics GmbH, Berlin, Germany), laboratory testing, transient elastography (TE) and hepatic ultrasound. The LiMAx® test is based on the metabolism of 13C-methacetin, which is administered intravenously and cleaved by the hepatic cytochrome P4501A2 to paracetamol and 13CO2, which is measured in exhaled air and correlates with maximal liver function capacity.Results: Maximal liver function capacity assessed by LiMAx® test was normal in 28 patients (>315 μg/h*kg) and mildly to moderately impaired in 11 patients (140–314 μg/h*kg), while no patient displayed severe hepatic impairment (

Introduction The Global Platform for the Prevention of Autoimmune Diabetes-SINT1A Study is designed as a randomised, placebo-controlled, double-blind, multicentre, multinational, primary prevention study aiming to assess whether daily administration of Bifidobacterium infantis from age 7 days to 6 weeks until age 12 months to children with elevated genetic risk for type 1 diabetes reduces the cumulative incidence of beta-cell autoantibodies in childhood.Methods and analysis Infants aged 7 days to 6 weeks from Germany, Poland, Belgium, UK and Sweden are eligible for study participation if they have a >10.0% expected risk for developing multiple beta-cell autoantibodies by age 6 years as determined by genetic risk score or family history and HLA genotype. Infants are randomised 1:1 to daily administration of B. infantis EVC001 or placebo until age 12 months and followed for a maximum of 5.5 years thereafter. The primary outcome is the development of persistent confirmed multiple beta-cell autoantibodies. Secondary outcomes are (1) Any persistent confirmed beta-cell autoantibody, defined as at least one confirmed autoantibody in two consecutive samples, including insulin autoantibodies, glutamic acid decarboxylase, islet tyrosine phosphatase 2 or zinc transporter 8, (2) Diabetes, (3) Transglutaminase autoantibodies associated with coeliac disease, (4) Respiratory infection rate in first year of life during supplementation and (5) Safety. Exploratory outcomes include allergy, antibody response to vaccines, alterations of the gut microbiome or blood metabolome, stool pH and calprotectin.Ethics and dissemination The study was approved by the local ethical committees of the Technical University Munich, Medical Faculty, the Technische Universität Dresden, the Medizinische Hochschule Hannover, the Medical University of Warsaw, EC Research UZ Leuven and the Swedish ethical review authority. The results will be disseminated through peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations and will be openly shared after completion of the study.Trial registration number NCT04769037.

We present an update of the Snow and Ice (SICE) property retrieval algorithm based on the spectral measurements of Ocean and Land Color Instrument (OLCI) onboard Sentinel-3 satellites combined with the asymptotic radiative transfer theory valid for weakly absorbing turbid media. The main improvements include the introduction of a new atmospheric correction, retrieval of snow impurity load and properties, retrievals for partially snow-covered ground and also accounting for various thresholds to be used to assess the retrieval quality. The technique can be applied to various optical sensors (satellite and ground-based) operated in the visible and near infrared regions of electromagnetic spectra.

Student teachers are rarely encouraged by experienced educators to consult schoolchildren to understand teaching and learning. Sometimes student teachers are not encouraged because of a believed incapacity to interact discernibly with schoolchildren--a belief stemming from minimal life experiences with people unlike themselves. Notions of deficiency attributed to urban youngsters may offer another explanation. Using a phenomenological perspective, this study demonstrates the capacity of eight White graduate student teachers, who, when urged to consult urban schoolchildren of color, to understand teaching and learning, were able to engage youngsters in meaningful conversation. Food processes use different microorganisms, from bacteria to fungi. Yeast strains have been extensively studied, especially Saccharomyces cerevisiae. However, to date, very little is known about the potential beneficial effects of molds on gut health as part of gut microbiota. We undertook a comprehensive characterization of five mold strains, Penicillium camemberti, P. nalgiovense, P. roqueforti, Fusarium domesticum, and Geotrichum candidum used in food processes, on their ability to trigger or protect intestinal inflammation using in vitro human cell models and in vivo susceptibility to sodium dextran sulfate-induced colitis. Comparison of spore adhesion to epithelial cells showed a very wide disparity in results, with F. domesticum and P. roqueforti being the two extremes, with almost no adhesion and 20% adhesion, respectively. Interaction with human immune cells showed mild pro-inflammatory properties of all Penicillium strains and no effect of the others. However, the potential anti-inflammatory abilities detected for G. candidum in vitro were not confirmed in vivo after oral gavage to mice before and during induced colitis. According to the different series of experiments carried out in this study, the impact of the spores of these molds used in food production is limited, with no specific beneficial or harmful effect on the gut.

In recent decades, microfinance institutions with financial products designed for low income groups have been established all over the world. However, credit access for farmers in developing countries remains low. Digital financial services are rapidly expanding globally at the moment. They also bear great potential to address the credit needs of farmers in remote rural areas. Beyond mobile money services, digital credit is successively offered and also discussed in literature. Compared to conventional credit which is granted based on a thorough assessment of the loan applicant’s financial situation, digital credit is granted based on an automated analysis of the existing data of the loan applicant. Despite the potential of digital credit for serving the credit needs of rural farmers, empirical research on farmers’ willingness to pay for digital credit is non-existent. We employ a discrete choice experiment to compare farmers’ willingness to pay for digital and conventional credit. We apply loan attributes which reflect typical characteristics of both credit products. Our results indicate a higher willingness to pay for digital credit compared to conventional credit. Furthermore, we find that the proximity to withdraw borrowed money has a higher effect on farmers’ willingness to pay for digital credit compared to conventional credit. Furthermore, our results show that instalment repayment condition reduces farmers’ willingness to pay for digital credit whilst increasing their willingness to pay for conventional credit. Additionally, we find that longer loan duration has a higher effect on farmers’ willingness to pay for digital credit compared to conventional credit whereas higher additional credit cost has a lower effect on farmers’ willingness to pay for conventional credit compared to digital credit. Our results highlight the potential of digital credit for agricultural finance in rural areas of Madagascar if a certain level of innovation is applied in designing digital credit products.

Veterans Health Administration (VHA) services are most frequently used by patients 65 years and older, an age group that is disproportionally affected by COVID-19. Here we describe a modular Clinical Trial Informatics Solution (CTIS) that was rapidly developed and deployed to support a multi-hospital embedded pragmatic clinical trial in COVID-19 patients within the VHA. Our CTIS includes tools for patient eligibility screening, informed consent tracking, treatment randomization, EHR data transformation for reporting and interfaces for patient outcome and adverse event tracking. We hope our CTIS component descriptions and practical lessons learned will serve as a useful building block for others creating their own clinical trial tools and have made application and database code publicly available.

The dendritic cell receptor Clec9A facilitates processing of dead cell-derived antigens for cross-presentation and the induction of effective CD8+ T cell immune responses. Here, we show that this process is regulated by E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF41 and define a new ubiquitin-mediated mechanism for regulation of Clec9A, reflecting the unique properties of Clec9A as a receptor specialized for delivery of antigens for cross-presentation. We reveal RNF41 is a negative regulator of Clec9A and the cross-presentation of dead cell-derived antigens by mouse dendritic cells. Intriguingly, RNF41 regulates the downstream fate of Clec9A by directly binding and ubiquitinating the extracellular domains of Clec9A. At steady-state, RNF41 ubiquitination of Clec9A facilitates interactions with ER-associated proteins and degradation machinery to control Clec9A levels. However, Clec9A interactions are altered following dead cell uptake to favor antigen presentation. These findings provide important insights into antigen cross-presentation and have implications for development of approaches to modulate immune responses.

Summary: The Veterans Affairs Precision Oncology Data Repository (VA-PODR) is a large, nationwide repository of de-identified data on patients diagnosed with cancer at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Data include longitudinal clinical data from the VA's nationwide electronic health record system and the VA Central Cancer Registry, targeted tumor sequencing data, and medical imaging data including computed tomography (CT) scans and pathology slides. A subset of the repository is available at the Genomic Data Commons (GDC) and The Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA), and the full repository is available through the Veterans Precision Oncology Data Commons (VPODC). By releasing this de-identified dataset, we aim to advance Veterans' health care through enabling translational research on the Veteran population by a wide variety of researchers. The Bigger Picture: Accelerating the speed of innovation and discoveries in health care requires the liberation of real-world data from their silos. One of the greatest challenges in the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning to health care is the validation of new algorithms beyond where they were created. We present the Veterans Affairs Precision Oncology Data Repository (VA-PODR), a large-scale repository of de-identified data on patients diagnosed with cancer at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). VA-PODR includes longitudinal clinical, genomic, and imaging data originating from the VA's electronic health record system, the VA Central Cancer Registry, and other sources. VA-PODR enables researchers around the world to validate their algorithms and advance cancer research and health care in general. In addition, VA-PODR enhances Veterans' health care by facilitating development of algorithms that are well tuned to the Veteran population and ready for deployment inside the VA.

Introduction Empagliflozin reduced morbidity and mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in clinical trials. A registry study was undertaken to describe evolution of patient characteristics and assess the real-world effectiveness/safety of empagliflozin.Research design and methods Data from the Diabetes Patienten Verlaufsdokumentation (DPV)/Diabetes Versorgungsevaluation (DIVE) registries on 9571 adults with T2DM (registered in 2014–2019) receiving empagliflozin were used. The objective of this study was to evaluate the histomorphometry of intestinal portions of broilers supplemented with probiotic, as well as histological parameters of organs linked to the immune system. The evaluated fungus Rhizomucor spp. is from samples of the intestinal contents of chickens Cobb 500. This was selected in vitro as probiotic characteristics and routed to performance assay. A completely randomized design with 3 treatments and 7 replicates and 18 birds per unit was used. One bird per experimental unit was sacrificed and the organs were sampled, after fixation were submitted to dehydration and diaphanization and then analyzed by light microscopy and submitted to histomorphometry and searched for spots. It was observed at 21 days that the birds belonging to the probiotic group formulated with Rhizomucor spp. presented higher villus height in the duodenum. There was also a significant increase in jejunum villus height for the control and probiotic group formulated with Rhizomucor spp. At 42 days it was observed only difference to depth of crypt with commercial probiotic use for duodenum. Regarding the analyzes of the tissue changes of the intestines, spleen and bursa at 21 days, one hundred percent of the birds receiving the fungus Rhizomucor spp. did not present histological alterations and at 42 days bursa alterations were observed in two animals. The inclusion of probiotic probiotic potential Rhizomucor spp. in the diet of broilers at 21 days of age promotes higher height of villi and at 42 days of age there was no influence.
