Abstract

In this research, the willingness to support a policy that enforces the installation of solar water heaters on every building in Cyprus is analyzed. The current status of solar water heating (SWH) systems in Cyprus is also evaluated in terms of utility and installation. The binary logit regression model, descriptive statistics, and chi-square crosstab analysis are used to analyze the data collected from 1000 residences across the Island. Cyprus has dropped from first to third in the world's ranking of solar water heaters per capita installation. Out of the 1000 resident sample residence, 778 respondents have solar water heaters installed and 222 had not installed solar water heating systems at the time the data was collected. Findings from this study indicate that respondents support solar water heating installation policy enforcement when their pipes are insulated. They also perceive solar water heating systems to be important and worth the investment. Respondents who would recommend solar water heating to others were more likely to support the enforcement of solar water heating installation policies. On the other hand, respondents who installed solar water heating because their neighbors had done so tended not to support its enforcement. Therefore, it is recommended that the government consider some of the aforementioned factors in order to maximize the benefits of SWH systems on the island. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The main aim of this study is to review researches that have been carried out on solar assisted HVAC systems. The objective is to design a basic solar assisted air conditioning system that uses CO2 as a refrigerant. The performance analysis of the system is done with EES and Copeland Scroll software. Research about the solar-assisted HVAC system has advanced as some studies reveal solar-assisted system that can operate for 24 h. In this kind of system, the storage is important and takes a sizeable amount of space and cost in the design. Also, LiBr is one of the most commonly used efficient absorber in absorption refrigeration for HVAC. The details of all the findings and the performance of the system designed is given in the paper. Abstract

Nigeria is one of most populated countries in the world. With a population of about 170 million people, the nation is enriched with diverse renewable and non-renewable energy sources. Despite this huge energy potential, only about 50% of her population have access to electricity. The main objective of this review is to present and analyze the renewable energy potentials of Nigeria with special attention and consideration to the past, present and future of solar energy development. The country aims to achieve electricity production of 9.74%, 18% and 20% of her electricity from renewables by 2015, 2020 and 2030, respectively. Solar energy is expected to produce 1.26%, 6.92% and 15.27% of the electricity consumed by 2015, 2020 and 2030, respectively. If these targets are met, the proportion of the population with access to electricity will increase drastically. Data collected from various reputable energy sources and Journals are reviewed. Nigeria has renewable energy resources including biomass, wind, hydropower and solar energy. These resources can sufficiently meet the country's energy demands, but statistics show that Nigeria still lacks adequate supplies to meet her electricity demands. •Three mixture ratios of 1:1:1, 1:2:1, and 1:1:2 were synthesized at volume fraction of 0.5%, 0.75%, 1% and 1.25%.•This study looked into what the application of temperature, working with specific concentrations of volume as well as having a mixture of ratio can do to nano-fluids.•Zeta potential test and particle size analyzer were used in examining the dispersal stability of the nanofluids and nanoparticle size.•The experimental result showed a `peaking effect` in the specific heat capacity, which was measured at a mixture ratio of 1:1:1.•GA-SVR gives the most accurate SHC prediction
