We seek to completely revise current models of airborne transmission of respiratory viruses by providing never-before-seen atomic-level views of the SARS-CoV-2 virus within a respiratory aerosol. Our work dramatically extends the capabilities of multiscale computational microscopy to address the significant gaps that exist in current experimental methods, which are limited in their ability to interrogate aerosols at the atomic/molecular level and thus obscure our understanding of airborne transmission. We demonstrate how our integrated data-driven platform provides a new way of exploring the composition, structure, and dynamics of aerosols and aerosolized viruses, while driving simulation method development along several important axes. We present a series of initial scientific discoveries for the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant, noting that the full scientific impact of this work has yet to be realized.

We report on the synthesis of optically pure cyclometalated iridium(III) complex‐peptide hybrids as amphiphilic peptide conjugates (IPH‐ACs) and the effect of the stereochemistry with respect to their Ir(tpy)3 (tpy: 2‐(4′‐tolyl)pyridine) core on their cytotoxicity against cancer cells. Stereochemically pure IPH‐ACs were synthesized from Δ‐ and Λ‐Ir(tpyCO2H)3 by optical resolution via the diastereomeric intermediates that are conjugated with the chiral alcohol, (1R,2R)‐2‐aminocyclohexanol ((R,R)‐11), followed by the hydrolysis of the ester moieties, as we reported very recently, and their spectroscopic spectra are reported. It was found that both optically pure Δ‐ and Λ‐forms of IPH‐ACs induce paraptotic cell death in Jurkat cells and the EC50 values were evaluated by MTT assays. We also performed TEM (transmission electron microscope) analyses of Jurkat cells treated with Λ‐13 to observe morphological changes in paraptosis processes. The intracellular uptake of Λ‐forms of IPH‐ACs in the cells measured by ICP‐MS (inductively coupled plasma‐mass spectrometry) was higher than those of Δ‐forms and the EC50 values of the Λ‐forms were smaller than those of the Δ‐IPH‐ACs. The analysis of these results suggests that the intrinsic cytotoxicity is almost equal for the Δ‐ and Λ‐forms and that the difference in cytotoxicity against Jurkat cells is due to the selectivity in the intracellular uptake of each stereoisomer. Background and Objectives: The aim of the present work was to compare the characteristics of delta and omicron variants of COVID-19 infection in pregnant women, the association of infection with comorbidity, clinical manifestation of the disease, type of delivery, and pregnancy outcome. Material and Methods: The study was designed as an observational, retrospective study of a single center. The analysis included the cohort of women who had SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy and/or childbirth in the period from 1 March 2020 to 30 June 2023. Results: Out of a total of 675 pregnant women with SARS-CoV-2 infection, 130 gave birth with the delta and 253 with the omicron variant. In our retrospective analysis, pregnant women with both SARS-CoV-2 variants had a mild clinical history in most cases. In the omicron period, a significantly lower incidence of pregnancy loss (p < 0.01) and premature birth (p = 0.62) admission of mothers and newborns to the intensive care unit (p < 0.05) was recorded. Conclusions: In our retrospective analysis, pregnant women with COVID-19 infection generally exhibited a milder clinical manifestation with both variants (delta and omicron) of the viral infection. During the delta-dominant period, ten percent of affected pregnant women experienced a severe clinical history. However, during the omicron-dominant period infection, a significantly lower incidence of complications, pregnancy loss, preterm delivery, and admission of mothers and neonates to the intensive care unit was recorded. It is important to understand real-world BNT162b2 COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness (VE), especially among racial and ethnic minority groups. We performed a test-negative case-control study to measure BNT162b2 COVID-19 VE in the prevention of COVID-19-associated acute respiratory illness (ARI) hospitalizations at two Atlanta hospitals from May 2021–January 2023 and adjusted for potential confounders by multivariate analysis. Among 5139 eligible adults with ARI, 2763 (53.8%) were enrolled, and 1571 (64.5%) were included in the BNT162b2 analysis. The median age was 58 years (IQR, 44–68), 889 (56.6%) were female, 1034 (65.8%) were African American, 359 (22.9%) were White, 56 (3.6%) were Hispanic ethnicity, 645 (41.1%) were SARS-CoV-2-positive, 412 (26.2%) were vaccinated with a primary series, and 273 (17.4%) had received ≥1 booster of BNT162b2. The overall adjusted VE of the BNT162b2 primary series was 58.5% (95% CI 46.0, 68.1), while the adjusted VE of ≥1 booster was 78.9% (95% CI 70.0, 85.1). The adjusted overall VE of primary series for African American/Black individuals was 64.0% (95% CI 49.9, 74.1) and 82.7% (95% CI 71.9, 89.4) in those who received ≥1 booster. When analysis was limited to the period of Omicron predominance, overall VE of the primary series decreased with widened confidence intervals (24.5%, 95% CI −4.5, 45.4%), while VE of ≥1 booster was maintained at 60.9% (95% CI 42.0, 73.6). During the later sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, the Mughal attempt at empire building in eastern India was challenged by the Pathan chieftains and the Hindu zamindars. Besides the Mughals, the Kingdom of Arakan tried to fish in troubled waters to establish a maritime presence in the littoral regions of Bay of Bengal. Pursuit of a sophisticated amphibious counterinsurgency strategy in tune with the ecological environment of the theatre of military operations enabled the Mughals to emerge victorious in the struggle for control of the Bay of Bengal's hinterland. Brain oscillations in humans play a role in a wide range of cognitive processes, including navigation and memory. The oscillatory dynamics contributing to successful spatial memory recall in humans are not well-understood. To investigate specific oscillatory frequency bands during the recall process in human navigation, we recorded electroencephalographic (EEG) activity during a recall trial in healthy young adults (n = 15) following the learning of a goal location in a Virtual Water Maze task. We compared this to the activity during the same trial length, in a group of participants who did not learn a target location and navigated freely but were time-matched to the learning group (non-learning, n = 15). We compared relative power in Delta (2-4Hz), Theta (5-7Hz), Alpha (8-12Hz), Beta (15-29Hz), and Gamma (30-40Hz) bands across the scalp. We found that delta and theta activity were greater during recall in our learning group, as opposed to our non-learning group. We also demonstrated clear suppression in the alpha band at posterior sites during memory-guided navigation compared to our non-learning group. Additionally, when goal-directed navigation switches to focused searching behavior, power becomes greater at the frontal region; with increases in the delta and theta bands reflecting this strategy change. There was also greater beta and gamma activity at posterior sites in our learning group. We discuss the results further in terms of the possible roles and functions of these oscillations during human navigation and hope this exploratory analysis can provide hypotheses for future spatial navigation and memory work. Background: The study was conducted in the various districts of Punjab, Pakistan, to ascertain the incidence and epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2 variants circulating in the population during the fifth wave of COVID-19. Method: A total of 9603 nasopharyngeal swab samples of suspected patients were collected from the different districts of Punjab from December 2021 to April 2022. In the BSL-3 facility, an auto-extractor (Uni-medica) was used to extract the RNA genome. Viral detection and quantification were performed using real-time reverse transcriptase PCR. Multiplex PCR was used to target different mutations of the spike protein in order to identify SARS-CoV-2 variants. Results: 711 samples were found to be positive from a total of 9603. The Omicron variant of concern (VOC) was the predominant lineage of SARS-CoV-2 circulating at the time of sampling. Ninety-one percent proportion of COVID-19 was caused by the Omicron, followed by the wild variant (3.80%) and Delta (68.11%). Men were found to have a greater Omicron prevalence (47.96%) than women (42.05%). Furthermore, compared to older individuals (32.07%) and younger kids (10.55%), adults had the higher percentage of Omicron (47.39%). Background: The effects of SARS-CoV-2 have varied between significant waves of hospitalization. Research question: Are cardiovascular complications different among the first, delta and omicron waves of hospitalized COVID-19 pneumonia patients? Study design and methods: This was a multi-centre retrospective study of patients hospitalized with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia: 632 were hospitalized during the first wave (March–July 2020), 1013 during the delta wave (September 2020–March 2021), and 323 during the omicron wave (January 2022–July 2022). Patients were stratified by wave and occurrence of cardiovascular events. Results: Among all hospitalized patients with cardiovascular events, patients in the omicron wave were younger (62.4 ± 14 years) than patients in the first wave (67.4 ± 7.8 years) and the delta wave (66.9 ± 12.6 years) and had a higher proportion of non-Hispanic White people than in the first wave (78.6% vs. 61.7%). For COVID19 patients who suffered from cardiovascular events, the omicron wave patients had significantly higher neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, white blood cell and platelet counts when compared to the first wave. Omicron wave patients had significantly lower albumin and B-type natriuretic peptide levels (only 5.8% of the first wave and 14.6% of the delta wave) when compared to either the first wave or delta wave patients. In COVID-19 patients who suffered cardiovascular events during hospitalization, mortality rate in the omicron wave (26.8%) was significantly lower than the first wave (48.3%), time to mortality for non-survivors of COVID-19 patients who suffered cardiovascular events was significantly longer in the omicron wave (median 16 days) than in the first wave (median 10 days). Conclusions: Younger and white patients were affected with cardiovascular complications more often by the omicron variant. Despite higher neutrophil/ lymphocyte ratio and WBC counts, the omicron patients with cardiovascular events showed lower heart injuries, lower mortality and longer time to mortality for non-survivors when compared to the first and delta waves. To prevent or reduce the loss caused by land subsidence in delta region, the land subsidence of the Zhuangxi–Wuhaozhuang oil area in Shengli Oilfield is predicted based on the elastic theory of porous medium and classical consolidation theory, and the prediction results are analyzed and verified by numerical simulation. The influencing factors and mechanism of land subsidence in delta resource exploitation area are studied. The research shows that: (1) the land subsidence in delta resource exploitation area is mainly caused by the underground brine exploitation, oil exploitation, consolidation of loose sediments, shallow groundwater exploitation, and soil load consolidation. The maximum land subsidence rate obtained by numerical simulation is 22 mm/a for single oil well and 81 mm/a for single brine well. (2) Pore pressure, physical and mechanical parameters of oil and brine reservoirs, development mode, and development degree are influencing factors of land subsidence in delta resource exploitation area, and pore pressure, permeability, and reservoir burial depth are controlling factors. (3) The exploitation wells in the Zhuangxi–Wuhaozhuang oil area are dense, and the influence range of land subsidence of different exploitation wells overlaps, which further aggravates the uneven land subsidence, and makes the result of InSAR subsidence monitoring larger. The SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant became predominant in Turkey in January 2022, coinciding with a rise in SARS-CoV-2–associated hospitalizations. Material and methods. Patients diagnosed with COVID-19 were collected by the infection control committee through an active surveillance program for COVID-19 throughout the pandemic. The hospitalization rate was included in the model to evaluate the relationship between each wave period and disease severity. The basic demographic data of the patients, and the potential risk factors such as comorbid diseases, and laboratory findings were included in the analysis. Results. The rate of patients who were positive in August (26.8%) was found to be significantly lower than in February (45.9%) (p<.001). The proportion of inpatient patients treatment in August (2.3%) was found to be significantly higher than in February (1.2%) (p<.001). In addition, in the omicron variant patients' wave, the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio was 5.31; and it was observed to be significantly higher than that of the patients (Median = 3.95) in the delta variant wave (p=.023). Discussion. These results provide clinicians with information about the clinical course of COVID-19 patients and are very important for appropriate clinical decision-making in these patients. This study analyzed the role of electric charge in human viral infections. Examples of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), dengue, Ebola, influenza A, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are presented. Charge distribution in SARS-CoV-2 and electrostatic interactions of SARS-CoV-2 with its receptor, a ngiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), were evaluated, and the mean time required for respired SARS-CoV-2 virus attachment was evaluated. The virus–cell attachment modality of all of the above viruses was calculated. The impact of electric charge on other viral-related processes, such as replication of virion material, release, and immune response, was also discussed. Studies have reported increased rates of long-term neuropsychiatric sequelae after SARS-CoV-2 infection using electronic health-record (EHR) data; however, the majority were conducted before Omicron and booster rollout. We estimated the long-term risks and excess burdens of pre–specified new-incident neuropsychiatric diagnoses after Delta versus Omicron BA.1/2 infection in a highly-vaccinated and boosted cohort of adult Singaporeans. The national SARS-CoV-2 testing registry was used to construct cohorts of Singaporean adults infected during periods of Delta and Omicron BA.1/2 predominance and a contemporaneous test-negative control group. New-incident neuropsychiatric diagnoses recorded in the national health care claims database were identified up to 300 days postinfection. Risks and excess burden were estimated using a doubly robust competing-risks survival analysis. 104 179 and 375 903 infected cases were assigned to Delta and Omicron cohorts and compared against test-negative controls (Delta: N = 666 575 and Omicron: N = 619 379). Elevated risk of cognition or memory disorders was consistently reported across Omicron (Adjusted hazards ratio [aHR], 1.24; 95% CI, 1.12–1.38) and Delta cohorts (aHR, 1.63; 95% CI, 1.39–1.92). Delta-variant infection was associated with an increased risk of anosmia or dysgeusia (aHR, 4.53; 95% CI, 2.78–7.41) and psychosis (aHR, 1.65; 95% CI, 1.22–2.22). By contrast, Omicron-variant infection was associated with a risk of abnormal involuntary movements (aHR, 1.93; 95% CI, 1.32–2.83). Risks of neuropsychiatric sequelae predominantly accrued in hospitalized individuals. A modestly increased risk of cognition and memory disorders at 300 days after SARS-CoV-2 infection was observed among adult Singaporeans infected during the Delta/Omicron BA.1/2 transmission. There was no overall increased risk of neuropsychiatric sequelae observed across other domains. Aim: To investigate the evolution of clinical symptoms of COVID‐19 in children throughout the pandemic. Methods: In this national prospective surveillance study, symptoms in children hospitalised with COVID‐19 were collected from all paediatric hospitals in Switzerland between March 2020 and March 2023. Data was analysed across four time periods, according to the predominantly circulating SARS‐CoV‐2 variant: T1 (wild‐type), T2 (Alpha), T3 (Delta) and T4 (Omicron), as well as by age group. Results: The study included 1323 children. The proportion of children admitted to an intensive care unit remained stable throughout the pandemic. However, the pattern and frequency of clinical manifestations changed over time. Respiratory symptoms were less prevalent during T1 (wild‐type), fever during T2 (Alpha) and rash during T4 (Omicron). In contrast, fever and neurological symptoms were more prevalent during T4 (Omicron). Newly described symptoms during T4 (Omicron) included conjunctivitis, laryngotracheitis and seizures. Fever was more prevalent among neonates and infants whereas respiratory symptoms were more common among infants. Gastrointestinal symptoms were more frequent among toddlers, while both toddlers and school‐aged children presented with neurological symptoms more often than other age groups. Conclusion: Continuous surveillance is required to detect changes in manifestations and there by be prepared for the optimal management of complications in children with COVID‐19. The CIE (International Commission on illumination) delta E test has been widely applied to quantize human beings color dissimilarity perceptions, and it is also an objective and professional way to judge a color accurate display in LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) field, then the LCD manufacturers spare no efforts to limit the delta E value and ensure its stability. This research aims to achieve the goal by conducting four related experiments, which are considered having great impact on delta E test result, including red/green/blue/white color variation experiment, white ACC (Accurate Color Capture) variation experiment, white gamma variation experiment, red/green/blue single gamma variation experiment. We found that the delta E test value can be deeply decreased by controlling the display color to approach to standard target color, including ensuring the display color red/green/blue to approach to sRGB (standard Red Green Blue) target color and adjusting white color to close to standard 6500K color temperature, moreover, the gamma value should be limited with no obvious deviation from typical value 2.2. Plastic pollution in Asian rivers is one of the global problems of the region. This work has been performed to identify microplastic (MP) particles in the tissues of some species of hydrobionts from the Mekong Delta, one of the largest rivers in Southeast Asia. The method of tissue decomposition with 30% hydrogen peroxide is used. The presence of MP particles is revealed in 11 of 12 fish species and in 6 crustacean species. Introduction: Attentional enhancement has often been identified as the central* cognitive mechanism underlying the benefits of mindfulness meditation. However, the extent to which this enhancement is observable in the neural processes underlying long-term meditation is unclear. This current study aimed to examine differences in attentional performance between meditators and controls (non-meditators) using a visual oddball task with concurrent electroencephalography (EEG) recordings. Methods: Thirty-four participants were recruited, including 16 meditators and 18 healthy controls, who were non-meditators. The participants completed a visual oddball task, using visual stimuli, and EEG recording. Results: Self-reports revealed that meditators had higher mindful attention scores than did the control group. The behavioral results showed that the meditators demonstrated faster reaction times than the non-meditators did. Neural findings indicated a higher P2 amplitude in the meditators than in the controls. The meditators demonstrated a significantly higher P3 in the target trials than in the distractor trials, which was not observed in the controls. Additionally, the time-frequency analysis demonstrated that the delta and theta powers in the meditators were significantly higher than those in the controls. Conclusions: The study suggests the meditators exhibited greater attentional performance than the controls did, as revealed by EEG and behavioral measures. High‐resolution 2D and 3D data remotely acquired by SuperCam's Remote Micro‐Imager and Mastcam‐Z aboard the Perseverance rover enabled us to characterize the stratigraphic architecture and sedimentary record of the Kodiak butte, an isolated remnant of the western delta fan of Jezero crater. Using these data, we build up on previous interpretations of the butte interpreted as a prograding Gilbert‐type deltaic series. We characterize three individual stratigraphic Units 0 to 2 on the eastern and northern faces of the butte. Each Unit displays the same vertical succession of prodeltaic/lacustrine bottomsets, delta slope toesets and foresets, and fluvially influenced topsets of a deltaic plain with a braided river pattern, shown by 11 individual sedimentary facies. We infer that these individual Units record the formation of three distinct deltaic mouth bars successively across time and space. For the first time on another planet than Earth, we are able to construct a precise sequence stratigraphic framework to highlight lake‐level fluctuations at the time the Kodiak butte was emplaced, during the latest stages of deltaic activity. We identify four hydrogeological cycles indicated by alternating rises and falls of the lake‐level on the order of 5–10 m. These were most probably linked to climatic events and variations controlling lake water inputs in probable relation to an astronomical control. Plain Language Summary: Kodiak butte is an isolated remnant of the main western sedimentary fan of Jezero crater. It displays the characteristic structures of a Gilbert‐type delta, a structure that shows deposition of fluvial material into a standing body of water, here interpreted to be a lake within Jezero crater. 11 individual sedimentary facies (textures, grain‐sizes, and structures) of the rocks exposed at Kodiak suggest that the depositional environments ranged from the fluvial plain to a steep subaqueous slope and into the bottom of the shallow Jezero lake. Our observations further show that Kodiak butte is organized into three distinct stratigraphic Units (0–2), each displaying the same vertical succession of bottomsets, toesets, foresets and topsets. This architecture is interpreted as reflecting three distinct deltaic packages, formed consecutively and not at the same time. Using these facies and stratigraphic architecture data, we are able for the first time on another planet than Earth, to precisely construct a sequence stratigraphic framework for the formation of Kodiak. This framework illustrates with unprecedented precision successive episodes of rises and falls of the paleo‐lake‐level (in the order of 5–10 m) involved in the construction and evolution of the western Jezero delta. Objectives: To investigate multi-dose and timings of COVID-19 vaccines in preventing antenatal infection. Design: Prospective observational study investigating primary vaccinations, boosters, antenatal COVID-19 infections, neutralizing antibody (Nab) durability, and cross-reactivity to Delta and Omicron variants of concern (VOCs). Results: Ninety-eight patients completed primary vaccination prepregnancy (29.6%) and antenatally (63.3%), 24.2% of whom had antenatal COVID-19, while 7.1% were unvaccinated (28.6% had antenatal COVID-19). None had severe COVID-19. Prepregnancy vaccination resulted in vaccination-to-infection delay of 23.3 weeks, which extended to 45.2 weeks with a booster, compared to 16.9 weeks following antenatal vaccination (P < 0.001). Infections occurred at 26.2 weeks gestation in women vaccinated prepregnancy compared to 36.2 weeks gestation in those vaccinated during pregnancy (P < 0.007). The risk of COVID-19 infection was higher without antenatal vaccination (hazard ratio [HR] 14.6, P = 0.05) and after prepregnancy vaccination without a booster (HR 10.4, P = 0.002). Antenatal vaccinations initially led to high Nab levels, with mild waning but subsequent rebound. Significant Nab enhancement occurred with a third-trimester booster. Maternal-neonatal Nab transfer was efficient (transfer ratio >1), and cross-reactivity to VOCs was observed. Conclusion: Completing vaccination during any trimester delays COVID-19 infection and maintains effective neutralizing activity throughout pregnancy, with robust cross-reactivity to VOCs and efficient maternal-neonatal transfer.

IntroductionCOVID-19 is caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), a virus notable for its rapid mutation rate, which has led to the emergence of various variants such as Delta and Omicron, each with potentially different levels of transmissibility and virulence. Therefore, this study aims to compare clinical charactheristics and markers associated with the severity of COVID-19 in hospitalized patients from western Mexico who were infected with the Delta and Omicron variants of SARS-CoV-2.MethodsThis cross-sectional study involved 66 patients hospitalized for COVID-19, diagnosed by RT-qPCR. SARS-CoV-2 variants were identified through whole genome sequencing using the COVIDseq platform from Illumina. Upon admission, patients underwent a clinical history assessment, blood gas analysis, and blood biometry. Additionally, several tests and markers were measured, including the percentage of neutralizing antibodies, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα), D-dimer, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), C-reactive protein (CRP), and ferritin.Results and discussionPatients hospitalized with the Omicron were found to be older, compared to those infected with the Delta (64 vs. 54 years, p = 0.006). Additionally, a higher proportion of male patients were observed in the Omicron compared to the Delta (p = 0.029). Both Omicron and Delta variants were associated with lymphopenia, although the lymphocyte count was lower in Omicron (0.9 vs. 0.56 10x3/L; p = 0.007). The COVID-GRAM scale indicated a high risk for severe disease in both groups, but the score was higher in Omicron compared to Delta (157 vs. 128 points; p = 0.0004). Patients infected with Omicron exhibited a lower percentage of neutralizing antibodies than those with Delta (35.99 vs. 81%; p < 0.05), regardless of their vaccination status. Among the markers assessed, globular ESR was found to be lower in Omicron compared to Delta (30.5 vs. 41.5 mm/h; p = 0.001), while ferritin levels were higher in patients infected with the Omicron (1,359 vs. 960.6 μg/L; p = 0.007). In patients with severe COVID-19, markers such as lymphopenia, neutralizing antibody levels, ferritin, and COVID-GRAM scores are elevated in the Omicron variant, while only the leukocyte count and ESR for the Delta variant.

We present a novel quantitative test of a 50-year-old hypothesis which asserts that river delta morphology is determined by the balance between river and marine influence. We define three metrics to capture the first-order morphology of deltas (shoreline roughness, number of distributary channel mouths, and presence/absence of spits), and use a recently developed sediment flux framework to quantify the river-marine influence. Through analysis of simulated and field deltas we quantitatively demonstrate the relationship between sediment flux balance and delta morphology and show that the flux balance accounts for at least 35% of the variance in the number of distributary channel mouths and 42% of the variance in the shoreline roughness for real-world and simulated deltas. We identify a tipping point in the flux balance where wave influence halts distributary channel formation and show how this explains morphological transitions in real world deltas.

The present study evaluated the effects of compounds targeting extrasynaptic δ subunit-containing γ-aminobutyric acid type A receptors (δ*-GABAARs) to interrogate the role of tonic inhibition in the development of antinociceptive tolerance caused by repeated morphine administration. We investigated the effect of subchronic or acute treatment with non-steroidal positive allosteric modulators (PAMs) of δ*-GABAARs, such as 2-261, on the morphine-antinociceptive tolerance. Mice were treated twice daily with morphine for 9 days and antinociception was measured using the hot water tail immersion test. Co-treatment with 2-261 and morphine prevented morphine-antinociceptive tolerance and acute administration of 2-261 on day 9 was sufficient to reverse the tolerance. Other compounds with activity at δ*-GABAARs also reversed morphine tolerance, whereas an enaminone that lacked activity at δ*-GABAARs did not. Acute administration of 2-261 did not cause an additive or synergistic antinociceptive effect when combined with an acute submaximal dose of morphine. We then used Cre/LoxP recombination to generate GABAA δ-subunit knockout mice to corroborate the pharmacological results. Observations of male δ-knockout mice demonstrated that the δ*-GABAARs was necessary for 2-261 modulation of both analgesic tolerance and somatic withdrawal symptoms produced by subchronic morphine. While female mice still benefited from the positive effects of 2-261, the δ-subunit was not necessary for these effects, highlighting a distinction of the different pathways that could have implications for some of the sex-related differences seen in human opioid-induced outcomes. Consequently, subtype-specific allosteric modulators of GABAARs may warrant further investigation as pharmacological targets to manage tolerance and withdrawal from opioids.

Abstract Background The latent and incubation periods characterize the transmission of infectious viruses and are the basis for the development of outbreak prevention and control strategies. However, systematic studies on the latent period and associated factors with the incubation period for SAS-CoV-2 variants are still lacking. We inferred the two durations of Delta, BA.1, and BA.2 cases and analyzed the associated factors. Methods The Delta, BA.1, and BA.2 (and its lineages BA.2.2 and BA.2.76) cases with clear transmission chains and infectors from 10 local SAS-CoV-2 epidemics in China were enrolled. The latent and incubation periods were fitted by the Gamma distribution, and associated factors were analyzed using the accelerated failure time model. Results The mean latent period for 672 Delta, 208 BA.1, and 677 BA.2 cases was 4.40 (95%CI: 4.24 ~ 4.63), 2.50 (95%CI: 2.27 ~ 2.76), and 2.58 (95%CI: 2.48 ~ 2.69) days, respectively, with 85.65% (95%CI: 83.40 ~ 87.77%), 97.80% (95%CI: 96.35 ~ 98.89%), and 98.87% (95%CI: 98.40 ~ 99.27%) of them starting to shed viruses within 7 days after exposure. In 405 Delta, 75 BA.1, and 345 BA.2 symptomatic cases, the mean latent period was 0.76, 1.07, and 0.79 days shorter than the mean incubation period [5.04 (95%CI: 4.83 ~ 5.33), 3.42 (95%CI: 3.00 ~ 3.89), and 3.39 (95%CI: 3.24 ~ 3.55) days], respectively. No significant difference was observed in the two durations between BA.1 and BA.2 cases. Background. During the pandemic of coronavirus infection (COVID-19) caused by a virus SARS-CoV-2 there has been significant variability in symptoms of the disease over time, severity of the course and in particular hospital mortality. Several SARS-CoV-2 variants have been identified such as Alpha, Delta, Omicron and others. Aim. To investigate the hospital mortality in patients with different strain variants during the period from April 2020 to April 2022. All included patients had moderate to severe COVID-19-associated pneumonia requiring hospitalization. Materials and methods. In this retrospective, conclusive, non-randomized, non-controlled study 4854 clinical records of hospitalized patients with Alpha (n=2400, April – December 2020), Delta (n=1722, 2021) and Omicron (n=627, January – April 2022) variants were investigated. Results. Hospital mortality is 6% in Alpha variant patients (6%), 5.7% in Delta and significantly lower in Omicron (1.5%; p0,001). Cardiovascular disease (arterial hypertension, coronary heart disease, chronic heart failure), diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease were risk factors for death in Alpha and Delta, but not in Omicron. There was also a significant decrease in the duration of hospitalization with strains Delta [7 days (5; 9)] and Omicron [7 (5; 11)] compared with Alpha [11 (9; 13); p0,001], and differences in factors the risk of mortality between the tested COVID variants. Conclusion. Thus, differences in mortality and risk factors for death between COVID-19 variants could be shown in our cohort.

Background and Aims: The entry inhibitor bulevirtide represents the first specific treatment for hepatitis-D virus (HDV)-infected patients. In clinical trials, around 80% of patients achieve normalization of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) with about 60% virological response after 1 year, but little is known about the dynamics of responses and clinical predictors of treatment outcomes. We report our single-center data from 15 patients and describe response dynamics, clinical outcomes, and predictive factors for treatment response. Methods: Retrospective data from 15 patients have been analyzed at our department who started treatment with bulevirtide between 10/2020 and 08/2022. According to our standard procedures, laboratory parameters were controlled monthly; transient elastography was performed every 3 months, and the treatment duration was 12 months. Results: Treatment response rates after 1 year of treatment were similar to published data from clinical trials. ALT normalization usually occurs between months 2–6 of treatment, followed by a virological response after ≥6 months. Patients with more severe hepatitis at the start of treatment were less likely to respond in the first year of treatment. Loss of HDV-RNA was observed in one-third of patients after ≥1 year of treatment. Low body mass index and high alpha-fetoprotein at baseline were possible predictors of a delayed treatment response. Conclusion: Bulevirtide is a safe treatment option for HDV, leading to a fast hepatological response. Of note, decrease in transaminases precedes virological response. Patients with high viral load and ALT levels respond slower, but nonresponders (as classified by Food and Drug Administration criteria) still show a reduction in viremia. Longer observation periods are required to determine the optimal duration of bulevirtide monotherapy.

Mutations in the SARS‑CoV‑2 genome make it possible to effectively escape defense mechanisms of the host, which explains the spread of infection among vaccinated or previously affected by the virus individuals.The aim of the study was to investigate the dynamics of mutations in the SARS‑CoV‑2 virus genome during the rise of the seasonal incidence in the Chuvash Republic.Materials and methods. Under conditions of the clinical diagnostic laboratory of the Federal Center for Traumatology, Orthopedics and Endoprosthetics of the Ministry of Health of Russia (Cheboksary), samples, containing SARS‑CoV‑2 RNA, taken in January-February and July-October, 2022 were tested using reverse transcription PCR. The “MBS-Test SARS‑CoV‑2 RNA” (Technical Specifications 21.20.23-068-26329720-2021, Russia) and “AmpliTest SARS‑CoV‑2 VOC v.3” (Series V017, Certificate of Registration No. 2022/16307, Russia) were utilized in compliance with the manufacturer’s instructions.Results and discussion. Variations in the sets of SARS‑CoV‑2 S gene mutations have been revealed in the studied samples obtained during different periods of the spread of SARS‑CoV‑2 coronavirus. Timely detection of various mutations in the virus genome at the beginning of the epidemiological season and the alleged rise in the incidence of coronavirus infection is valuable information for forecasting the rate of virus transmission. It can also be used to create vaccines (taking into account changes in the virus genome) and to choose the adequate tactics for treating coronavirus infection.

The histological, histomorphometrical, and macroscopical properties of the pancreas in local partridge (Francolinus francolinus) were the objectives of this study. Twelve adult partridges were purchased from the market of Baquba city. The gland was examined in situ macroscopically, and multiple sections of pancreatic tissue underwent microscopic analysis after preparation and staining with different stains. Macroscopic findings of the partridge pancreas determined the presence of the gland between the ascending part and descending part of the duodenum arms, and it consists of four lobes, which were ventral, splenic, third, and dorsal lobes. Three pancreatic ducts were detected. Histologically, it was noted that a thin capsule of connective tissue was surrounding the partridge's pancreas, and many septa were sent to the parenchyma, forming several lobules. The average thickness of the capsule was 12.54±0.65 µm. Two portions were identified within the gland's parenchyma: the endocrine and exocrine portions. The endocrine part occupies a smaller area in the gland when compared with an exocrine one. Islets of Langerhans in various sizes and forms were observed, which represented the endocrine part. Cells of beta, alpha, and delta were located in those islets. The mean diameter of islets was 70.51±4.75, 65.75±4.1, 53.65±3.85, and 45.22±3.20 µm in different lobes, respectively. The exocrine contained cells are arranged in acini, associated with the ductal system. In conclusion, the present research gives a window for histomorphometry and anatomical properties of the pancreas in local partridge. Nevertheless, more examinations as immunohistochemical and ultrastructure should be conducted on partridge's pancreas in future investigations.

A new interactive DELTA key (DEscription Language for TAxonomy) for identification of kinorhynch species is made available. The key covers species of Kentrorhagata, Xenosomata, and Anomoirhaga, i.e., all non-Echinoderidae and non-Pycnophyidae kinorhynchs. Upon publication, the key includes 64 entries, but it will continuously be updated and expanded as new species are described. Background: Oral candidiasis has been documented in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection, with varying prevalence rates across geographic regions and patient demographics. This study aimed to ascertain the incidence, characteristics, and risk factors associated with the development of oral candidiasis in patients hospitalized for SARS-CoV-2 infection in a tertiary infectious diseases hospital in Romania. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on adult patients hospitalized between March 2020 and December 2022 with moderate or severe forms of SARS-CoV-2 infection, for whom a culture of lingual scrapings for Candida spp. was performed. Results: A total of 294 patients were deemed eligible for inclusion in the analysis, with an incidence rate of oral candidiasis of 17.0%. The incidence of oral candidiasis was 4.2 times higher in patients with severe forms of SARS-CoV-2 infection compared to those with moderate forms. Patients with a diagnosis of COVID-19 and oral candidiasis were more likely to receive antibiotics (98.0% vs. 86.1%, p = 0.017) and corticosteroids (100% vs. 83.6%, p = 0.003) than those without oral candidiasis. These findings were associated with a 19% higher relative risk of developing oral candidiasis for patients who received corticosteroid therapy compared to those who did not, and a 13% higher relative risk for those who were administered antibiotics compared to those who were not. The presence of respiratory insufficiency increased the odds of oral candidiasis association 4.7-fold (88.0% vs. 61.1%, p < 0.001). Conclusions: Although the data have been analyzed retrospectively, we have shown that individuals with severe forms of COVID-19 exhibited an elevated risk of developing oral candidiasis. The administration of antibiotics and corticosteroids was identified as a positive predictor for the development of oral candidiasis. The data presented here suggest that a key aspect of the therapeutic management of patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection should include the implementation of preventive measures to minimize the risk of secondary fungal infections.

Background: The risk of preterm birth (PTB) and stillbirth increases after a SARS-CoV-2 infection during gestation. We aimed to estimate the risk depending on gestational age at infection (early <28 + 0 and late ≥28 weeks of gestation, WoG), virus variants, severity of infection, and vaccination. Methods: PTB was divided into early PTB (<32 + 0) and late PTB (32 + 0–36 + 6 WoG). The prospective register COVID-19 Related Obstetrics and Neonatal Outcome Study (CRONOS) included 8032 pregnant women with a confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection from 3 April 2020 to 31 December 2022, in Germany and Austria. Results: Stillbirth and early preterm births rates were higher during the Alpha (1.56% and 3.13%) and Delta (1.56% and 3.44%) waves than during the Omicron wave (0.53% and 1.39%). Early SARS-CoV-2 infection increased the risk for stillbirth (aRR 5.76, 95% CI 3.07–10.83) and early PTB before 32 + 0 (aRR, 6.07, 95% CI 3.65–10.09). Hospital admission increased the risks further, especially in the case of ICU admission. Vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 significantly reduced the risk of stillbirth (aRR 0.32, 95% CI 0.16–0.83). Conclusions: This multicentric prospective study shows an increased risk of stillbirth and preterm birth after infection early in pregnancy and therefore the importance of obstetrical surveillance thereafter. The analysis of spontaneous electroencephalogram (EEG) is a cornerstone in the assessment of patients with disorders of consciousness (DoC). Although preserved EEG patterns are highly suggestive of consciousness even in unresponsive patients, moderately or severely abnormal patterns are difficult to interpret. Indeed, growing evidence shows that consciousness can be present despite either large delta or reduced alpha activity in spontaneous EEG. Quantifying the complexity of EEG responses to direct cortical perturbations (perturbational complexity index [PCI]) may complement the observational approach and provide a reliable assessment of consciousness even when spontaneous EEG features are inconclusive. To seek empirical evidence of this hypothesis, we compared PCI with EEG spectral measures in the same population of minimally conscious state (MCS) patients (n = 40) hospitalized in rehabilitation facilities. We found a remarkable variability in spontaneous EEG features across MCS patients as compared with healthy controls: in particular, a pattern of predominant delta and highly reduced alpha power—more often observed in vegetative state/unresponsive wakefulness syndrome (VS/UWS) patients—was found in a non‐negligible number of MCS patients. Conversely, PCI values invariably fell above an externally validated empirical cutoff for consciousness in all MCS patients, consistent with the presence of clearly discernible, albeit fleeting, behavioural signs of awareness. These results confirm that, in some MCS patients, spontaneous EEG rhythms may be inconclusive about the actual capacity for consciousness and suggest that a perturbational approach can effectively compensate for this pitfall with practical implications for the individual patient's stratification and tailored rehabilitation. Reasonable thermal insulation in cold regions is the key to improve the indoor thermal environment. In this paper, the detached house is taken as the research object, and the sensitivity analysis method is used to quantify the influence of each parameter on the building heat load in three different climate zones. The attenuation characteristics of the heat storage body to the outdoor temperature wave are studied by using the A·M Shklovel calculation method, and the thermal insulation strategy of the envelope structure is optimized by genetic algorithm (GA). The results show that the heat transfer coefficient of roof and exterior wall has the most significant influence on the building heat load. The mean effect response of each factor shows that the Delta (Delta is the value used in Taguchi design methodology to express the relative effect of each factor on the response) of roofs in the three regions is the highest, 3.061, 4.061, and 5.88, respectively. The influence of the type and thickness of the insulation material on the heat storage performance is different. The indoor and outdoor temperature wave penetration attenuation multiple increases with the increase of the thickness of the insulation layer, increases with the decrease of the thermal conductivity of the insulation material, and increases with the increase of the specific heat capacity. The choice of insulation materials is not only related to the above two parameters, but also directly affected by the price. Considering the influence of various factors, the economy of choosing expanded polystyrene board for thermal insulation in the three regions is the best. The optimal thermal insulation thickness of the north wall and roof is 8 and 16 cm (3A climate zone), 10 and 17 cm (2B climate zone), 13 and 20 cm (2A climate zone), respectively. Background Long-term care residents were among the most vulnerable during the COVID-19 pandemic. We estimated vaccine effectiveness of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines in Medicare nursing home residents aged ≥65 years during pre-Delta and high Delta periods. Methods We conducted a retrospective cohort study from 13 December 2020 to 20 November 2021 using Medicare claims data. Exposures included 2 and 3 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines. We used inverse probability weighting and Cox proportional hazards models to estimate absolute and relative vaccine effectiveness. Results Two-dose vaccine effectiveness against COVID-19–related death was 69.8% (95% CI, 65.9%‒73.3%) during the pre-Delta period and 55.7% (49.5%‒61.1%) during the high Delta period, without adjusting for time since vaccination. We observed substantial waning of effectiveness from 65.1% (54.2%‒73.5%) within 6 months from second-dose vaccination to 45.2% (30.6%‒56.7%) ≥6 months after second-dose vaccination in the high Delta period. Three doses provided 88.7% (73.5%‒95.2%) vaccine effectiveness against death, and the incremental benefit of 3 vs 2 doses was 74.6% (40.4%‒89.2%) during high Delta. Among beneficiaries with a prior COVID-19 infection, 3-dose vaccine effectiveness for preventing death was 78.6% (50.0%‒90.8%), and the additional protection of 3 vs 2 doses was 70.0% (30.1%‒87.1%) during high Delta. Vaccine effectiveness estimates against less severe outcomes (eg, infection) were lower. Conclusions This nationwide real-world study demonstrated that mRNA COVID-19 vaccines provided substantial protection against COVID-19–related death. Two-dose protection waned after 6 months. To evaluate the validity of CT-based delta radiomics signatures in predicting overall survival (OS) and local recurrence (LR) in small cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients after chemotherapy. Retrospectively enrolled 136 SCLC patients were split into training and testing cohorts. Radiomics features were extracted from CT images before, after the second, and the fourth cycle of chemotherapy. Delta radiomics features were obtained by calculating the net changes of features. Three radiomics signatures (R1, R2, and R3) and three delta radiomics signatures (R21, R31, and R32) were developed. The best signature was defined as the radiomics risk signature (RRS). The significant clinicoradiological factors and RRS of OS or LR were applied to build the combined model. RRS was also investigated in the subgroups based on stage and treatment regimens, respectively. Delta radiomics models presented improved performance. R32 signature demonstrated the highest C-indices in the training and testing cohorts, with C-indices of 0.850 and 0.834 in the OS arm, and 0.723 and 0.737 in the LR arm, respectively. The incremental performance was observed after the clinicoradiological characteristics integrated into the RRS OS , with C-indexes of 0.857 and 0.836, respectively. Furthermore, the stratified analysis also confirmed the ability of RRS based on the stage and treatment regimen subgroups in the OS and LR arms, respectively. Delta radiomics signatures could improve the personalized prediction of OS and LR at the early stage of chemotherapy in SCLC patients. R32 signature performed the highest performance. Within-host infection dynamics of Omicron dramatically differs from previous variants of SARS-CoV-2. However, little is still known about which parameters of virus-cell interplay contribute to the observed attenuated replication and pathogenicity of Omicron. Mathematical models, often expressed as systems of differential equations, are frequently employed to study the infection dynamics of various viruses. Adopting such models for results of in vitro experiments can be beneficial in a number of aspects, such as model simplification (e.g., the absence of adaptive immune response and innate immunity cells), better measurement accuracy, and the possibility to measure additional data types in comparison with in vivo case. In this study, we consider a refinement of our previously developed and validated model based on a system of integro-differential equations. We fit the model to the experimental data of Omicron and Delta infections in Caco-2 (human intestinal epithelium model) and Calu-3 (lung epithelium model) cell lines. The data include known information on initial conditions, infectious virus titers, and intracellular viral RNA measurements at several time points post-infection. The model accurately explains the experimental data for both variants in both cell lines using only three variant- and cell-line-specific parameters. Namely, the cell entry rate is significantly lower for Omicron, and Omicron triggers a stronger cytokine production rate (i.e., innate immune response) in infected cells, ultimately making uninfected cells resistant to the virus. Early observations from the Perseverance rover suggested a deltaic origin for the western fan of Jezero crater only from images of the Kodiak butte. Here, we use images from the SuperCam Remote Micro‐Imager and the Mastcam‐Z camera to analyze the western fan front along the rover traverse, and further assess its depositional origin. Outcrops in the middle to lower half of the hillslopes comprise planar and inclined beds of sandstone that are interpreted as foresets of deltaic deposits. Foresets are locally structured in ∼20–25 m thick, ∼80–100 m long, antiformal structures interpreted as deltaic mouth bars. Above these foresets, interbedded sandstones and boulder conglomerates are interpreted as fluvial topset beds. One well‐preserved lens of boulder conglomerate displays rounded clasts within well‐sorted sediment deposited in overall fining upward beds. We interpret these deposits as resulting from lateral accretion within fluvial channels. Estimations of peak discharge rates give a range between ∼100 and ∼500 m3 s−1. By contrast, boulder conglomerates exposed in the uppermost part of hillslopes are poorly sorted and truncate the underlying beds. The presence of these boulder deposits suggests that intense sediment‐laden flood episodes occurred after the deltaic foreset and topset beds were deposited, although the origin, timing, and relationship of these boulder deposits to the ancient lake that once filled Jezero crater remains undetermined. Overall, these observations confirm the deltaic nature of the fan front, and suggest a highly variable fluvial input. The inability to wait for a target before initiating an action (i.e., waiting impulsivity) is one of the main features of addictive behaviors. Current interventions for addiction, such as transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS), have been suggested to improve this inability. Nonetheless, the effects of tDCS on waiting impulsivity and underlying electrophysiological (EEG) markers are still not clear. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of neuromodulation over the right inferior frontal gyrus (rIFG) on the behavior and EEG markers of reward anticipation (i.e., cue and target-P3 and underlying delta/theta power) during a premature responding task. For that, forty healthy subjects participated in two experimental sessions, where they received active and sham tDCS over the rIFG combined with EEG recording during the task. To evaluate transfer effects, participants also performed two control tasks to assess delay discounting and motor inhibition. The active tDCS decreased the cue-P3 and target-P3 amplitudes, as well as delta power during target-P3. While no tDCS effects were found for motor inhibition, active tDCS increased the discounting of future rewards when compared to sham. SARS-CoV-2 has expressively changed its sequences during the COVID-19 pandemic situation by encompassing persistent evolutionary mutational changes resulting in the emergence of many clades and lineages. Evolution of these SARS-CoV-2 variants have significantly imparted fitness advantage to the virus, enhanced its transmissibility and severity of the disease. These new variants are a potential threat to the vaccine efficacy as well. It is therefore pertinent to monitor the evolution of these variants and their epidemiological and clinical impact, in a geographic setting. This study has thus looked into the geographic distribution and genetic diversity of SARS-CoV-2 variants and the evolutionary circulation of different clades in Chhattisgarh (CG) state from March 2020 to July 2023. A total of 3018 sequences were retrieved from the GISAID database, in which 558 were submitted by us. The demographic data revealed male preponderance of 56.45% versus 43.54% females, with the overall mean age of 36.5 years. SARS-CoV-2 sequences represented many variants viz., Delta (55%), Omicron (22%) and others (15%) with a small proportion of recombinant (5%), Kappa (2%), and Alpha (1%). The viral clades G was found predominant for a year from initial days of pandemic in March, 2020 to January, 2021 which then subsequently evoluted to subclade GK (Delta B.1.617.2) and remained in circulation in CG till November, 2021. From December 2021, the GRA (Omicron B.1.1.529) variant had replaced GK to become the dominant strain and continues to predominate in present time. GRA clade is however continuously encompassing new recombinant strains, having various non-synonymous mutations especially in spike protein. The non-synonymous mutation P314L in ORF1b, S84L in ORF8 and D614G in spike protein were found as the pan mutation carried over from clade G to GRA. The continuous evolution in SARS-CoV2 warrants periodical geographic genomic surveillance monitoring to timely detect any new variants having the potential of causing future outbreak. We present the first magnetotelluric sounding (MTS) data acquired in the southern part of the Lena River delta which is a junction zone of the Siberian Craton and the Verkhoyansk fold-and-thrust belt, in the transition zone from the Eurasian Continent to the shelf of the Laptev Sea. The MTS data were used to construct a vertical section of the bulk electrical resistivity (ER) structure of the Earth's crust down to a depth of 8 km. The upper high-resistivity layer (320–1000 Ohm m) corresponds to the permafrost rocks ranging in thickness from 1 km to 400 m under the channels of the Lena River. The underlying deformed Mesoproterozoic–Lower Triassic rocks can vary in composition, but they are poorly differentiated in ER values (110–240 Ohm m). We detected three low-resistivity anomalies (10–60 Ohm m) related to the fluid-saturated core and damage zones of active faults. A deep-lying high-resistivity anomaly (320–350 Ohm m) identified at the northeastern part of the section can correspond to the Lower Proterozoic or Archean metamorphic rocks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Fitting probability distribution functions to observed data is the standard way to compute future design floods, but may not accurately reflect the projected future pattern of extreme events related to climate change. In applying the latest coupled model intercomparison project (CMIP5 and CMIP6), this research investigates how likely it is that precipitation changes in CMIP5 and CMIP6 will affect both the magnitude and frequency of flood analysis. GCM output from four modelling institutes in CMIP5, with representative pathway concentration (RCP8.5) and the corresponding CMIP6 shared socioeconomic pathways (SSP585), were selected for historical and future periods, before the project precipitation was statistically downscaled for selected cities by using delta, quantile mapping (QM), and empirical quantile mapping (EQM). On the basis of performance evaluation, a rainfall-runoff hydrological model was developed by using the stormwater management model (SWMM) for CMIPs (CMIP5 and CMIP6) in historical and future horizons. The results reveal an unprecedented increase in extreme events, for both CMIP5 (historical) and CMIP6 (future) projections. The years 2070–2080 were identified by both CMIP5 and CMIP6 as experiencing the most severe flooding. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

From 2020 to December 2022, China implemented strict measures to contain the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. However, despite these efforts, sustained outbreaks of the Omicron variants occurred in 2022. We extracted COVID-19 case numbers from May 2021 to October 2022 to identify outbreaks of the Delta and Omicron variants in all provinces of mainland China. We found that omicron outbreaks were more frequent (4.3 vs. 1.6 outbreaks per month) and longer-lasting (mean duration: 13 vs. 4 weeks per outbreak) than Delta outbreaks, resulting in a total of 865,100 cases, of which 85% were asymptomatic. Despite the average Government Response Index being 12% higher (95% confidence interval (CI): 9%, 15%) in Omicron outbreaks, the average daily effective reproduction number (Rt) was 0.45 higher (95% CI: 0.38, 0.52, p  < 0.001) than in Delta outbreaks. Omicron outbreaks were suppressed in 32 days on average (95% CI: 26, 39), which was substantially longer than Delta outbreaks (14 days; 95% CI: 11, 19; p  = 0.004). We concluded that control measures effective against Delta could not contain Omicron outbreaks in China. The continuous evolution and mutation of SARS-CoV-2 have highlighted the need for more effective vaccines. In this study, CpG, MF59-like, and Alum adjuvant Delta strain inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccines were prepared, and the immunogenicity of these vaccines in mice was evaluated. The Delta + MF59-like vaccine group produced the highest levels of S- and RBD-binding antibodies and live Delta virus neutralization levels after one shot of immunization, while mice in the Delta + Alum vaccine group had the highest levels of these antibodies after two doses, and the Delta + MF59-like and Delta + Alum vaccine groups produced high levels of cross-neutralization antibodies against prototype, Beta, and Gamma strain SARS-CoV-2 viruses. There was no significant decrease in neutralizing antibody levels in any vaccine group during the observation period. CpG, MF59-like, and Alum adjuvant Delta strain inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccines excited different antibody subtypes compared with unadjuvanted vaccines; the Delta + CpG vaccine group had a higher proportion of IgG2b antibodies, indicating bias towards Th1 immunity. The proportions of IgG1 and IgG2b in the Delta + MF59-like vaccine group were similar to those of the unadjuvanted vaccine. However, the Delta + Alum vaccine group had a higher proportion of IgG1 antibodies, indicating bias towards Th2 immunity. Antigen-specific cytokine secretion CD4/8+ T cells were analyzed. In conclusion, the results of this study show differences in the immune efficacy of CpG, MF59-like, and Alum adjuvant Delta strain inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in mice, which have significant implications for the selection strategy for vaccine adjuvants. The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) remains a global threat, exacerbated by the emergence of viral variants. Two variants of SARS‐CoV‐2, Omicron BA.2.75 and BA.5, led to global infection peaks between May 2022 and May 2023, yet their precise characteristics in pathogenesis are not well understood. In this study, we compared these two Omicron sublineages with the previously dominant Delta variant using a human angiotensin‐converting enzyme 2 knock‐in mouse model. As expected, Delta exhibited higher viral replication in the lung and brain than both Omicron sublineages which induced less severe lung damage and immune activation. In contrast, the Omicron variants especially BA.5.2 showed a propensity for cellular proliferation and developmental pathways. Both Delta and BA.5.2 variants, but not BA.2.75, led to decreased pulmonary lymphocytes, indicating differential adaptive immune response. Neuroinvasiveness was shared with all strains, accompanied by vascular abnormalities, synaptic injury, and loss of astrocytes. However, Immunostaining assays and transcriptomic analysis showed that BA.5.2 displayed stronger immune suppression and neurodegeneration, while BA.2.75 exhibited more similar characteristics to Delta in the cortex. Such differentially infectious features could be partially attributed to the weakened interaction between Omicron Spike protein and host proteomes decoded via co‐immunoprecipitation followed by mass spectrometry in neuronal cells. Our present study supports attenuated replication and pathogenicity of Omicron variants but also highlights their newly infectious characteristics in the lung and brain, especially with BA.5.2 demonstrating enhanced immune evasion and neural damage that could exacerbate neurological sequelae.
