Fabrication of mineralized materials through the nature‐mimicking dynamic biomineralization process has attracted great interest but remains a huge challenge till now. Here, a drug‐mineralized hydrogel (DMH) with spontaneous dynamic mineralization behaviors is reported, which highly mimics the dynamic mineralization process of natural tissues. The hydrogel is facilely fabricated via directly mixing sodium hyaluronate (HA) with alendronate sodium (ADA) and CaCl2 in deionized water. The resultant hydrogel possesses a white‐to‐semi‐transparent transition and a soft‐to‐hard transition during incubation at 37 °C. Mechanism studies reveal that the spontaneous dynamic change of the hydrogel is ascribed to the HA‐regulated dynamic mineralization of ADA/Ca2+ complexes, where amorphous ADA/Ca2+ complexes will gradually transform into mineral crystals with the prolongation of incubation time. Owing to the dynamic transformation process, the DMH shows excellent injectability and moldability at the initial stage. More importantly, the DMH exhibits a sustained release behavior of ADA in vitro, superior adhesiveness with bone, biodegradability, and good biocompatibility. As a result, the developed DMH demonstrates promising uses for accelerating bone repair in a rat cranial defect model. Textile‐based generators that can convert low‐grade energy from the human body or environment into sustainable electricity have generated immense scientific interest in self‐powered wearable applications. However, their low power density and environmental suitability have extremely restricted their portable applications in complex and mutable environments. Herein, an asymmetric sandwich structure between molybdenum disulfide (MoS2)‐carbonized silks (MCs) and MoS2/MXene–Cottons (MMCs) to construct efficient thermo–hydroelectric generators (THEGs) that synergistically harvest heat‐moisture energy to generate considerable electricity is rationally designed. Notably, the large surface area of MoS2/MXene van der Waals heterojunctions (vdWhs) enables efficient charge collection, and the vertical MoS2 nanosheet arrays supply abundant nanochannels for a highly efficient hydration effect, generating an output power density of 32.26 µW cm−2 after wetting with deionized water. Combined with the sensitive temperature recognition ability with a Seebeck coefficient of 23.5 µV K−1, the application possibilities of these prepared THEGs in the mutual conversion of fingertip temperature/language, and the monitoring of the human physiological state is foresee. Proton Exchange Membrane Water Electrolyzers (PEMEL) are promising for the production of green hydrogen, but costs have to be reduced and lifetime has to be improved. In this study we investigate PEMEL with low catalyst loading achieved by Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) and 3D printing of the electrodes. Degradation processes were characterized and allocated using different electrochemical and physicochemical methods. Background: One of the most widely recognized biostimulators of plant development; is oligoalginate, which regulates the biological processes of plants and was used in horticultural fields as a plant growth regulator. The plan of the current research was to study, however, the foliar application of un-irradiated and irradiated Na-alginate (UISA and ISA) to improve the growth, physiological activity, and other active components of the Egyptian iceberg lettuce plant. Degraded Na-alginate is equipped with exposure of sodium alginate in its solid state to gamma-rays at different dose levels (0.0, 25, 50, 75, and 100 kGy). The characterization of the oligo-alginates achieved by γ-radiation deprivation at different dose levels was performed by FTIR, XRD, TGA, SEM, and TEM. Different concentrations of irradiated sodium alginate at dose levels of 100 kGy (200, 400, 600, and 800 ppm, as well as deionized water used as a control) were sprayed with a hand sprayer every week after transplanting the iceberg lettuce seedlings in the field until the harvest stage. Morphological traits were evaluated, as well as pigments, ascorbic acid, phenols, flavonoids, soluble proteins, and antioxidant activity. Results: Irradiated Na-alginate resulted in the depolymerization of Na-alginate into small molecular-weight oligosaccharides, and the best dose to use was 100 kGy. Certain chemical modifications in the general structure were observed by FTIR analysis. Two absorbed bands at 3329 cm−1 and 1599 cm−1, were recognized that are assigned to O–H and C-O stretching, respectively, and peaks achieved at 1411 cm−1 represent the COO-stretching group connected to the sodium ion. The peak obtained at 1028 cm−1 was owing to the stretching vibration of C-O. The results of TGA provided that the minimum weight reminder was in the ISA at 100 kGy (28.12%) compared to the UISA (43.39%). The images of TEM pointed out that the Na-alginate was globular in shape, with the particle distribution between 12.8 and 21.7 nm in ISA at 100 kGy. Irradiated sodium alginate caused a noteworthy enhancement in the vegetative growth traits (leaf area, stem length, head weight, and leaf number). By spraying 400 ppm, ISA showed a maximum increase in total pigments (2.209 mg/g FW), ascorbic acid (3.13 mg/g fresh weight), phenols (1.399 mg/g FW), flavonoids (0.775 mg/g FW), and antioxidant activities (82.14. %). Also, there were correlation coefficients (R values) between leaf area, stem length, head weight, and leaf number values with total pigment content, antioxidant activity, total soluble proteins, and ascorbic acid. Conclusions: The outcomes of the recent investigation demonstrated that the application of spraying irradiated Na-alginate (100 kGy) resulted in an improvement of the considered characters. Previous studies have demonstrated that altering the surface structure can enhance heat transfer. In this study, a square micropillar array with a homogeneous structure was designed for a long rectangular channel with a hydrodynamic diameter of 10 mm. Deionized water and HFE-7100 were used as working fluids for the study. The effect of flow rate and subcooling degree on flow boiling heat transfer performance is discussed. The bubble behavior of two different media was compared by visualization experiments. The results show that the square microcolumn array will delay the ONB point by increasing the heat transfer area and disturbing the main fluid, and improve the overall boiling heat transfer performance by 2–3 times. It was found that HFE-7100 boils better under low heat flow density, but its stable nuclear boiling time is shorter. Furthermore, the effects of volume flow and subcooling on heat transfer performance vary significantly at different stages of the boiling process. Before the ONB point, an increase in volume flow will increase the heat current density by 88.9% and reduce the boiling heat transfer stability. Microscale electronics have become increasingly more powerful, requiring more efficient cooling systems to manage the higher thermal loads. To meet this need, current research has been focused on overcoming the inefficiencies present in typical thermal management systems due to low Reynolds numbers within microchannels and poor physical properties of the working fluids. For the first time, this research investigated the effects of a connector with helical geometry on the heat transfer coefficient at low Reynolds numbers. The introduction of a helical connector at the inlet of a microchannel has been experimentally tested and results have shown that this approach to flow augmentation has a great potential to increase the heat transfer capabilities of the working fluid, even at low Reynolds numbers. In general, a helical connector can act as a stabilizer or a mixer, based on the characteristics of the connector for the given conditions. When the helical connector acts as a mixer, secondary flows develop that increase the random motion of molecules and possible nanoparticles, leading to an enhancement in the heat transfer coefficient in the microchannel. Otherwise, the heat transfer coefficient decreases. It is widely known that introducing nanoparticles into the working fluids has the potential to increase the thermal conductivity of the base fluid, positively impacting the heat transfer coefficient; however, viscosity also tends to increase, reducing the random motion of molecules and ultimately reducing the heat transfer capabilities of the working fluid. Therefore, optimizing the effects of nanoparticles characteristics while reducing viscous effects is essential. In this study, deionized water and deionized water–diamond nanofluid at 0.1 wt% were tested in a two-microchannel system fitted with a helical connector in between. It was found that the helical connector can make a great heat transfer coefficient enhancement in low Reynolds numbers when characteristics of geometry are optimized for given conditions. Coal slurry is a semi-solid material formed by the water content of pulverized coal, which is a product of the coal production and transportation process and has viscous and wet characteristics, and is easy to cause blockage in the process of mechanized mining and transportation. To study the resistance law of the probe rod pressed into the quasi-static viscous particle medium at a uniform speed, coal dust and deionized water were mixed into different water content of coal slurry, and the resistance of the probe rod under pressure in different water content of coal slurry was measured. It is found that when the cohesion of coal slurry is small, the press-in process tends to be stable, and the intrusion resistance shows a linear-slowly increasing-suddenly increasing trend as the depth of pressure increases. Garlic is in the family Liliaceae and has many different constituents such as organic sulfur compounds, amino acids, carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamins. In this work, a simple, sensitive, and accurate analytical method was developed for the determination of selected organosulfur compounds (OSCs) in garlic bulbs using reversed phase-high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). Oil-soluble and water-soluble OSCs were extracted from the garlic samples via acetonitrile and deionized water, respectively. The OSCs were separated on a Phenomenex C18 (250 mm, 4 mm, 5mm) column and the monitoring was performed with a UV detector at 220 nm. An isocratic mobile phase comprising of 0.10 M trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) in 85% acetonitrile (ACN) and 0.10 M TFA in distilled water (DW) (90: 10% v/v) was used to elute the analytes. Under optimum experimental conditions, the limits of detection (LOD) for the analytes were calculated in the range of 0.09 to 0.17 mg/kg. For the garlic sample extracts analyzed under optimal instrumental conditions, DAS (diallyl sulfide), DADS (diallyl disulfide), and DATS (diallyl trisulfide) were detected in the ranges of 8.0 to 32.5 mg/ kg, 20.4 to 67.3 mg/kg, and 60.7 to 356.6 mg/kg, respectively. Spiked recovery experiments were conducted on the garlic samples to confirm the method's applicability and accuracy. The recovery results ranged between 39.0% and 90.9% for the garlic samples extracted with deionized water. The developed method is simple, precise, accurate, reliable, and time-effective for the determination of OSCs. Additionally, the green profile of the developed method was investigated by using AGREEprep software and the greenness score was recorded as 0.65, indicating that the method developed is environmentally friendly. This study explores a novel reactive cold sintering method for improving the density of gadolinia‐doped ceria (GDC) ceramics while reducing the annealing temperature. Instead of using deionized water as an aid in conventional cold sintering, stoichiometrically mixed Ce(NO3)3·6H2O and Gd(NO3)3·6H2O precursors were added as additives during the CSP in this study. The effects of processing parameters such as sintering temperature and additive content on the relative density of the compacts were investigated using synthesized GDC and commercial GDC powders as raw materials. The results showed that with the aid of precursors, GDC ceramics were sintered up to 90% of their theoretical densities at 850°C and up to 94% at 950°C when the synthesized nanopowder GDC was used. Additionally, the sintering mechanism was investigated, and it was found that the GDC generated by the precursor reaction effectively filled the gaps between the original particles, promoting densification of the sample after cold‐pressing. The capacitive deionization (CDI) technique is considered a promising eco-friendly desalination method due to its high energy efficiency, ease of operation, and simplistic electrode regeneration capability. Thus, significant research is focused on developing highly efficient electrode materials with high electrochemical stability and salt electro-adsorption capacity (Sc) behavior during operation because these are the governing factors in examining the measured activity of fabricated CDI cells. In this manuscript, we report the synthesis of hydrogenated titanium nanotubes@spongy activated carbon (HTiO 2 NTs@SAC) using pyrolysis and hydrothermal processes. The SAC is synthesized by the pyrolysis of spongy loofa in an inert atmosphere and further hydrothermally activating it in an aqueous potassium hydroxide solution. The hydrothermal process activates and enhances the hydrophilicity of SAC. HTiO 2 is synthesized electrochemically at 20 V in 0.1 M perchloric acid. Such HTiO 2 NTs@SAC configuration can provide excellent pathways to increase ion adsorption and improve the kinetics of charge transfer by enhancing the contact between the electrolyte and electrode at the interface. It is found that HTiO 2 NTs@SAC has a specific capacitance (Cs) of 385.7 F g−1 compared with 332.7 F g−1 for SAC. The salt electrosorption capacity (Sc) of HTiO 2 NTs@SAC electrode material is found to be 24.90 mg g−1 in 250 μS cm −1 saline solution at 1.2 V, which is much higher than the values obtained for SAC (9.8 mg g−1). HTiO 2 NTs@SAC has also shown an antimicrobial effect toward gram-negative bacteria and exhibited good performance in the supercapacitor application, wherein HTiO 2 NTs@SAC showed a higher Cs (505.55 F g−1) than SAC (380 F g−1) at 1 A g−1. Thus, we demonstrate that the prepared composite can be used as an energy storage material, an antibacterial material, and a CDI electrode in the CDI technology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two Cd(II) MOFs based on the 1,4-bis[(2-methyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)-methyl]benzene (1,4-mbix) and succinate (Suc2−) or azelate (Aze2−) ligands have been hydrothermally synthesized, namely, {[Cd2(Suc)2(1,4-mbix)2]·5H2O}n (1) and [Cd(Aze)(1,4-mbix)]n (2). Both MOFs were structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In MOF 1, the Cd(II) centers are connected by Suc2− and 1,4-mbix to generate a two-dimensional (2D) sql layer with (H2O)5 water cluster. Each 2D layer is further interlocked with two adjacent layers to form a 2D + 2D → 3D parallel polycatenated structure. In MOF 2, when the Suc2− was placed by Aze2−, the Cd(II) centers are connected by Aze2− and 1,4-mbix into a 2D sql layer but without any water molecules. And two 2D sql layers interpenetrate with each other to generate a twofold 2D + 2D → 2D sheet. MOFs 1 and 2 display photoluminescence at 343 nm (λex = 288 nm) and 298 nm (λex = 271 nm), respectively. Luminescent quenching experiments show that 1 and 2 have good ability for detection of Fe3+ in deionized water with low detection limits as 0.58 μM for 1 and 0.54 μM for 2, respectively. Two MOFs also can serve as luminescent sensors for Fe3+ in real tap water and river water. The luminescent quenching of 1 and 2 toward Fe3+ can be attributed to the competition among the absorption of Fe3+ with the excitation and emission of two MOFs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Herein, activated red mud particles are used as adsorbents for phosphorus adsorption. HCl solutions with different concentrations and deionized water are employed for desorption tests, and the desorption mechanism under the following optimal conditions is investigated: HCl concentration = 0.2 mol/L, desorbent dosage = 0.15 L/g, desorption temperature = 35 °C, and desorption time = 12 h. Under these conditions, the phosphate desorption rate and amount reach 99.11% and 11.29 mg/g, respectively. Notably, the Langmuir isothermal and pseudo-second-order kinetic linear models exhibit consistent results: monomolecular-layer surface desorption is dominant, and chemical desorption limits the rate of surface desorption. Thermodynamic analysis indicates that phosphorus desorption by the desorbents is spontaneous and that high temperatures promote such desorption. Moreover, an intraparticle diffusion model demonstrates that the removal of phosphorus in the form of precipitation from the surface of an activated hematite particle adsorbent primarily occurs via a chemical reaction, and surface micromorphological analysis indicates that desorption is primarily accompanied by Ca dissolution, followed by Al and Fe dissolutions. The desorbents react with the active elements in red mud, and the vibrations of the [SiO4]4− functional groups of calcium–iron garnet and calcite or aragonite disappear. Further, in Fourier-transform infrared spectra, the intensities of the peaks corresponding to the PO43− group considerably decrease. Water deficit (WD) promotes great losses in agriculture, and the development of new sustainable technologies to mitigate the effects of this stress on plants is essential. This study aimed to evaluate the morphophysiological and biochemical alterations induced by the priming of tomato seeds with different formulations in plants under field capacity and WD conditions. In the first experiment, the treatments consisted of nanoparticles of alginate/chitosan and chitosan/tripolyphosphate containing gibberellic acid (GA3) in different concentrations (0.5, 5, and 50 µg mL−1 GA3), in addition to control with deionized water. The alginate/chitosan (5 µg mL−1 GA3) provided the greatest gains in plant growth under field capacity. In addition, under WD this treatment reduced damage to photosystem II (−14%), stomatal conductance (−13%), and water loss (−38%) and increased the instantaneous carboxylation efficiency (+24%) and intrinsic water use efficiency (+12%). In the second experiment, the treatments were alginate/chitosan nanoparticles containing GA3 (NPGA3 5 µg mL−1), free GA3 (GA3 5 µg mL−1), nanoparticles without GA3 (NP), deionized water (WATER), and non-primed seeds (CONT). Under WD, GA3 and CONT maintained plant growth and lost water rapidly, reducing stomatal conductance (−87%) and net photosynthesis (−69%). In contrast, NPGA3 decreased leaf area (−44%) and increased root-to-shoot ratio (+39%) when compared to GA3, reducing water loss (−28%). Activation of protective mechanisms (e.g., superoxide dismutase and catalase activities) by WATER, NPGA3, and NP treatments also resulted in lower susceptibility to WD compared to CONT and GA3. Human society annually produces nearly 100 billion gallons of wastewater, containing approximately 3600 GWh of energy. This study introduces a proof of concept utilizing graphene materials to extract and instantly store this energy. A hybrid device, mimicking a microbial fuel cell, acts as both a battery and supercapacitor. Wastewater serves as the electrolyte, with indigenous microorganisms on the graphene electrode acting as biocatalysts. The device features a capacitive electrode using a 3D nickel foam modified with a plasma-exfoliated graphene mixture. Compared to controls, the Gr/Ni configuration shows a 150-fold increase in power output (2.58 W/m2) and a 48-fold increase in current density (12 A/m2). The Gr/Ni/biofilm interface demonstrates outstanding charge storage capability (19,400 F/m2) as confirmed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Microscopy, spectroscopy, and electrochemical tests were employed to elucidate the superior performance of Gr/Ni electrodes. Ultimately, the capacitive energy extracted from wastewater can power small electrical equipment in water infrastructure, addressing energy needs in remote regions without access to a typical power grid. • An integrally porous MoS 2 /Ni electrode was synthesized by the 3D printing technique. • The 3D printed MoS 2 /Ni exhibited excellent removal performance and reusability. • The MoS 2 increased the dechlorination efficiency via the "Hydrogen spillover process". • Degradation mechanism and pathway for FLO were proposed. Here, we report the production of 3D-printed MoS 2 /Ni electrodes (3D-MoS 2 /Ni) with long-term stability and excellent performance by the selective laser melting (SLM) technique. As a cathode, the obtained 3D-MoS 2 /Ni could maintain a degradation rate above 94.0% for florfenicol (FLO) when repeatedly used 50 times in water. We also found that the removal rate of FLO by 3D-MoS 2 /Ni was about 12 times higher than that of 3D-printed pure Ni (3D-Ni), attributed to the improved accessibility of H*. In addition, the electrochemical characterization results showed that the electrochemically active surface area of the 3D-MoS 2 /Ni electrode is about 3-fold higher than that of the 3D-Ni electrode while the electrical resistance is 4 times lower. Based on tert -butanol suppression, electron paramagnetic resonance and triple quadrupole mass spectrometer experiments, a "dual path" mechanism and possible degradation pathway for the dechlorination of FLO by 3D-MoS 2 /Ni were proposed. Furthermore, we also investigated the impacts of the cathode potential and the initial pH of the solution on the degradation of FLO. Overall, this study reveals that the SLM 3D printing technique is a promising approach for the rapid fabrication of high-stability metal electrodes, which could have broad application in the control of water contaminants in the environmental field. Objective: To investigate intestinal toxicity in rats and the effects of Nano-cerium dioxide on intestinal flora in rats after oral sub-chronic exposure. Method: Forty healthy male SD rats were randomly divided into four groups: a control group (deionized water) and three groups treated with different doses of Nano-ceria (e.g., 20 mg/kg, 100 mg/kg, and 500 mg/kg), with 10 rats in each group. The rats were given intragastric administrations (every other day) for 90 days. After the last intragastric administration, fresh fecal samples were collected by pressing the abdomen, and the animals were sacrificed. Jejunum, ileum and cecum tissues were retained for pathological analysis by Hematoxylin-eosin staining. The stool samples of rats were sequenced by the Illumina NovaSeq sequencing platform, and the sequencing results were further analyzed by QIIME2 software. Results: The histopathology results show that compared with the control group, in the middle- and high-dose groups, epithelial tissue was shed, lamina propria glandular structures were damaged or disappeared, and large numbers of inflammatory cells were distributed in the mucosa. The intestinal flora results show that there were no significant differences in the α-/β-diversities in each Nano-ceria-treated group compared with the control group (P>0.05). Compared with the control group, the intestinal pathogenic bacteria, Mucispirillum and Streptococcus increased significantly after Nano-cerium dioxide ingestion, while Weissella decreased. The abundances of Akkermansia in all Nano-ceria-treated groups were higher than those in the control group, but the abundances decreased with increasing dose. MetagenomesSeq analysis show that, compared with the control group, the abundances of S24-7, Lactobacillus and Clostridiales in all experimental groups significantly decreased. Conclusions: The sub-chronic toxicity of Nano-cerium dioxide to rats can affect the structure and abundance of intestinal microflora, long-term exposure to high doses (>100 mg/kg) causes enteritis, but there was no significant difference in the diversity of gut microbiota. Therefore, we infer that the enteritis in rats may be associated with the relative ratios of the pathogenic bacteria and intestinal probiotics, and increased of the intestinal pathogenic bacteria can disrupted intestinal homeostasis. Capacitive deionization is a promising solution for freshwater production with Ti3C2Tx emerging as a momentous electrode material. Here, highly porous 3D nitrogen-doped Ti3C2Tx (3D-N-Ti3C2Tx) is developed by using electropositive melamine to electrostatically induce electronegative Ti3C2Tx nanosheets to be reconstructed to alleviate the severe stacking problem of Ti3C2Tx layers. 3D-N-Ti3C2Tx has a large specific surface area (129.48 m2 g−1) and pore volume (0.372 cm3 g−1), exposing numerous ion adsorption sites. Also, 3D-N-Ti3C2Tx achieves nitrogen doping, which greatly improves the hydrophilicity and electrical conductivity. With the combined advantages of a three-dimensional structure and nitrogen doping, 3D-N-Ti3C2Tx achieves a specific capacitance of 101.9 F g−1 in 1 mol L−1 NaCl solution and demonstrates fantastic desalination performance with a high desalination capacity of 31.51 mg g−1, surpassing those of the majority of reported Ti3C2Tx electrodes, and outstanding desalination cycling stability in 500 mg L−1 NaCl solution at 1.2 V. In this work, a new voltammetric procedure for acyclovir (ACY) trace-level determination has been described. For this purpose, an electrochemically activated screen-printed carbon electrode (aSPCE) coupled with well-conductive electrolyte (CH3COONH4, CH3COOH and NH4Cl) was used for the first time. A commercially available SPCE sensor was electrochemically activated by conducting cyclic voltammetry (CV) scans in 0.1 mol L−1 NaOH solution and rinsed with deionized water before a series of measurements were taken. This treatment reduced the charge transfer resistance, increased the electrode active surface area and improved the kinetics of the electron transfer. The activation step and high conductivity of supporting electrolyte significantly improved the sensitivity of the procedure. The newly developed differential-pulse adsorptive stripping voltammetry (DPAdSV) procedure is characterized by having the lowest limit of detection among all voltammetric procedures currently described in the literature (0.12 nmol L−1), a wide linear range of the calibration curve (0.5–50.0 and 50.0–1000.0 nmol L−1) as well as extremely high sensitivity (90.24 nA nmol L−1) and was successfully applied in the determination of acyclovir in commercially available pharmaceuticals. E-textiles have emerged as a fast-growing area in wearable technology for sports and fitness due to the soft and comfortable nature of textile materials and the capability for smart functionality to be integrated into familiar sports clothing. This review paper presents the roles of wearable technologies in sport and fitness in monitoring movement and biosignals used to assess performance, reduce injury risk, and motivate training/exercise. The drivers of research in e-textiles are discussed after reviewing existing non-textile and textile-based commercial wearable products. Different sensing components/materials (e.g., inertial measurement units, electrodes for biosignals, piezoresistive sensors), manufacturing processes, and their applications in sports and fitness published in the literature were reviewed and discussed. In this work, hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) stalks were pretreated with pyrrolidinium acetate [Pyrr][AC] to increase the availability of cellulose for cellulolytic enzymes and thus improve the production of 2G ethanol from reducing sugars. The process was carried out under different temperature and time conditions: The control sample was raw material and deionized water, and the second sample was kept at 21 °C for 24 h. The third sample was kept at 90 °C for 30 min, and the fourth sample was kept at the same temperature for 24 h. For each pretreatment, the extraction of lignin and hemicellulose was determined, as well as the change in biomass composition before and after pretreatment. The stalks of hemp seed contained 41.54% cellulose, 18.08% lignin and 28. 87% hemicellulose. [Pyrr][AC] used to dissolve seed hemp at 90 °C for 24 h was most effective in the extraction of this biopolymer, extracting 3.1% content. After enzymatic hydrolysis, the highest content of reducing sugars was found for samples of hemp stalks that were first pretreated with proton ionic liquid (PIL) and stirred at 90 °C for 24 h. To achieve high flow hydrogen production, a laminated self-thermal methanol reforming microreactor was designed. Through simulation and experiments, the hydrogen production performance of the microreactor and the compatibility between the methanol catalytic combustion module and the methanol steam reforming module were investigated. The results show that the microreactor exhibits impressive hydrogen production performance, with a methanol conversion rate of 95.27%. When the inlet flow rate of the mixture of methanol and deionized water was increased to a high flow rate, the microreactor exhibits significant cold spots over a wide range in the reaction chamber plates, which could be effectively solved by enhancing the methanol catalytic combustion intensity. The methanol catalytic combustion module inside the microreactor can meet the heat demand of the methanol reforming module. The microreactor operated for 20 h with a methanol-deionized water mixture inlet flow rate of 12 mL/min and a methanol inlet flow rate of 7.5 mL/min; the methanol conversion rate finally stabilized at 90.1%, which was decreased by about 2.2% compared with the initial methanol conversion rate. • Laminated self-thermal methanol steam reforming microreactor was designed with a maximum hydrogen flow rate of 10 L/min. • Thermal matching of methanol catalytic combustion reaction and methanol reforming reaction gained explored. • Methanol conversion rate was improved from 58.6% to 91.2% at the inlet flow rate of methanol of 7.5 mL/min. In recent scenarios, plenty of research has been conducted on porous activated carbon derived from biowaste precursors. The well‐developed surface area and porous nature of biowaste‐derived activated carbon material make them good candidates for electrochemical devices to use as electrode material. In the present work, we have used waste peanut shells (W.P.) as a precursor material to derive large surface area activated carbon. Chemical activation is used to activate the activated carbon, for which ZnCl2 is used as an activating agent. The waste peanut shell‐derived activated carbon (WPAC) is studied via XRD, FESEM, and BET. Prepared carbon shows a large BET surface area of 1366 m2 g−1 and a well‐developed pore structure; the presence of pores is also confirmed by FESEM images. A solid‐state supercapacitor is also fabricated using waste peanut shell‐based activated carbon and ionic liquid‐based polymer electrolyte. The EDLC is further studied using electrochemical characterizations such as CV, EIS, and GCD. The EIS study found that the WPAC‐based EDLC cell shows a specific capacitance of 25 F/g at 10 mHz. A DSSC is also fabricated using the WPAC on the counter electrode, and it shows an efficiency of 0.96% with a fill factor of 27.79. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The radioactive pollution caused by uranium containing wastewater generated during the nuclear fuel cycle seriously threatens human health and environmental safety. The electrosorption (or capacitive deionization, CDI) separation of U(VI) from wastewater has the advantages of high efficiency, low energy consumption, convenient operation, and no secondary pollution, making it a promising new separation technology. By combining double layer capacitive materials with pseudo capacitive materials, the specific capacitance and ion storage capacity of the composites can be significantly improved, thereby improving the electrosorption performance. This work used natural biomass as raw material to prepare hierarchical porous biocarbon through high-temperature pyrolysis and chemical activation, and then it was incorporated with hydrothermally synthesized α-MnO 2 nanofibers to obtain novel composites (BC/α-MnO 2) with high hybrid capacitance for U(VI) removal in CDI. The electrochemical characteristics of the composites and their electrosorption performances for U (VI) were respectively investigated in a three electrode system and a CDI device. The results suggested that BC/α-MnO 2 exhibited an ideal capacitive behavior, and theoretical calculations indicated the synergistic effect of capacitive and diffusion control processes on ion storage. Among different BC/α-MnO 2 electrodes, BC/α-MnO 2 -2 had the highest specific capacitance (130.48 F/g) and also the highest adsorption capacity for U (VI) (280.20 mg/g at 0.9 V and pH 4.0). The isotherms and kinetics of U (VI) electrosorption were consistent with the Langmuir and PFO models, respectively. The electrosorption mechanism was mainly related to the contribution of pseudocapacitance and EDL adsorption. Overall, BC/α-MnO 2 -2 exhibited ideal electrochemical properties and excellent electrsorption performance for U (VI) (high electrosorption capacity, fast kinetic rate, and good cycling stability), facile fabrication and environmentally friendly, and thus it has promising application in CDI treatment of radioactive wastewater. The lymphatic system possesses the main viral replication sites in the body following viral infection. Unfortunately, current antiretroviral agents penetrate the lymph nodes insufficiently when administered orally and, therefore, cannot access the lymphatic system sufficiently to interrupt this viral replication. For this reason, novel drug delivery systems aimed at enhancing the lymphatic uptake of antiretroviral drugs are highly desirable. Dissolving polymeric microarray patches (MAPs) may help to target the lymph intradermally. MAPs are intradermal drug delivery systems used to deliver many types of compounds. The present work describes a novel work investigating the lymphatic uptake of two anti-HIV drugs: cabotegravir (CAB) and rilpivirine (RPV) when delivered intradermally using dissolving MAPs containing nanocrystals of both drugs. Maps were formulated using NCs obtained by solvent-free milling technique. The polymers used to prepare the NCs of both drugs were PVA 10 Kda and PVP 58 Kda. Both NCs were submitted to the lyophilization process and reconstituted with deionized water to form the first layer of drug casting. Backing layers were developed for short application times and effective skin deposition. In vivo biodistribution profiles of RPV and CAB after MAP skin application were investigated and compared with the commercial intramuscular injection using rats. After a single application of RPV MAPs, a higher concentration of RPV was delivered to the axillary lymph nodes (AL) (C max 2466 ng/g – T max 3 days) when compared with RPV IM injection (18 ng/g - T max 1 day), while CAB MAPs delivered slightly lower amounts of drug to the AL (5808 ng/g in 3 days) when compared with CAB IM injection (9225 ng/g in 10 days). However, CAB MAPs delivered 7726 ng/g (T max 7 days) to the external lumbar lymph nodes, which was statistically equivalent to IM delivery (C max 8282 ng/g - T max 7 days). Microplastics (MPs) have become an emerging contaminant in many environmental compartments. Although numerous studies worldwide have accounted for MP contamination in our primary condiments such as salt, there is limited data available in the Philippines. This study aims to determine MPs in commercially distributed salts in markets in Iligan City, Northern Mindanao, the Philippines. We collected table salts of various brands according to their information on the packaging, weight, and salt type. Salt samples were diluted with ultrapure deionized water to float MPs due to their intrinsic hydrophobicity. After flotation, the solutions were filtrated using a vacuum system. The filters were observed under microscopy analysis and suspected MP particles were verified using ATR-FTIR analysis. A total of 31 MP particles were detected, which averaged 11.27 ± 4.31 particles/kg of salt. The most abundant polymer types of MPs were polypropylene (23%), polyethylene (23%) and polyamide (19%). The shapes of MPs were dominated by fibers (65%), whereas white (45%) was the most prevalent color. This research is the first to provide a snapshot of MPs in salts in the Philippines. Soil nitrite (NO2−) is an important reactive intermediate in many nitrogen transformation processes, but it is unstable under acidic conditions and may be lost as gaseous N. The canonical extraction method of soil NO2− using a potassium chloride (KCl) solution greatly underestimates its concentration. To reflect the concentration more accurately, we optimized the extraction method of soil NO2− for three agricultural soils differing in soil texture and pH, an alkalic fluvo-aquic soil and acidic Mollisol and Ultisol soils, respectively. Both extractable soil ammonium (NH4+) and nitrate (NO3−) were systematically investigated to optimize the simultaneous extraction of soil inorganic nitrogen. The effects of different extractants (deionized water (DIW), un-buffered 2 mol L−1 KCl, and pH-buffered 2 mol L−1 KCl), shaking time (10 and 30 min), and storage duration of the extracts (stored at −20 °C for 1 day, and at 4 °C for 1, 3, and 6 days) on the determination of soil inorganic nitrogen were investigated. The results showed that the un-buffered KCl extractant significantly underestimated soil NO2− concentration compared to DIW. The highest recovery of NO2− was obtained by extracting with DIW at 10 min of shaking for all three soils. Compared with DIW, the concentration of NH4+ and NO3− in soil extracted from the KCl solution increased significantly. Furthermore, the soil inorganic nitrogen content of extracts stored at 4 °C for one day was closer to the direct measurements of fresh samples than with the other storage methods. Overall, the recommended analysis method for soil NO2− was extraction by DIW, shaking for 10 min, and filtering with a 0.45 µm filter, while soil NH4+ and NO3− were extracted with a KCl solution and shaken for 30 min. The extract should be stored at 4 °C and analyzed within 24 h. Our study provides an efficient extraction method for soil NO2− and supports studies on the biogeochemical nitrogen cycle, e.g., in the investigation of soil nitrous acid (HONO) and nitric oxide (NO) emissions. Anodic electrodeposition was used to synthesize a composite electrode of nanostructured manganese dioxide/carbon fiber (CF) galvanostatically. Different characterization results of the nanostructured MnO2 were obtained by varying the H2SO4 concentration and the current density. Field emission scanning electron microscopy, X‐ray diffraction, and atomic force microscopy were utilized to characterize the prepared composite electrodes. The best conditions were: 0.3 mA cm−2 current density and 0.64 M H2SO4 concentration. The electrosorption performance of the MnO2/CF electrode prepared under the best conditions was tested by way of its chromium(VI) ion adsorption from a simulated solution. The applied voltage, pH, and ionic strength affect the efficiency of Cr(VI) ion removal. As the cardinal part of capacitive deionization apparatus, the performance of electrode directly determines the capacitive deionization's adsorption rate, adsorption capacity and selectivity. However, the adsorptivity and reusability of electrode material for special adsorbate need to be developed urgently for the application of capacitive deionization in wastewater purification. In this research, we successfully enhanced the Cu(II) adsorptivity of activated carbon fiber felt (ACFF) to 23 mg/g (4.47 times of ACFF0) by the sonication‐assisted chemical reactivation process with the solution of 20 wt % NaOH used as activator (ACFF‐N20). As ACFF‐N20 used as cathode, the Cu(II) electro‐adsorptivity of ACFF‐N20 under a current of 0.15 A is 84 mg/g for 130 mg/L Cu(II) standard working fluid. For the Cu(II) wastewater with a concentration of 50 mg/L, it can be purified to 0.14 mg/L by one step of capacitive deionization, which below the drinking standard of World Health Organization. By the technology of low‐temperature pickling regeneration, the regeneration rates of ACFF‐N20 are 102 %–106 % for five recycling times of Cu(II) electrosorption process. Based on fitting analysis of adsorption processes using different kinetic models, it was found that Langmuir model is more convergent than Freundlich model to the adsorption isotherms. Additionally, Bangham adsorption kinetic model and pseudo‐first order adsorption kinetic model have the best fitting correlation for the Cu(II) static adsorption and electrosorption of ACFFs. In this work, cobalt oxide decorated on carbon cloth (Co 3 O 4 /CC) is fabricated by the electrodeposition method by optimizing two factors: (i) the electrodeposition time; (ii) the volume ratio between ethylene glycol (EG) and deionized water (DI) in deposition solution. Results indicate that 5 min of electrodeposition is the most effective interval to acquire the sample with the most homogeneous in size and distribution. Furthermore, the addition of EG has a significant effect on the surface morphology of Co 3 O 4 /CC, causing the formation of the mesoporous Co 3 O 4 layers on the substrate's surface. Due to the porous and rough structure of Co 3 O 4 /CC, its specific surface area reaches 111.3 m2g-1 as opposed to pure CC (37.2 m2g-1). Additionally, the coverage of Co 3 O 4 on the cloth helps to enhance the electrochemical surface area up to 10 times and improve strongly the conductivity of the whole system. In the electrochemical water splitting (EWS) application, the Co 3 O 4 /CC sample prepared in precisely 5 min with the existence of EG at 40 %vol. possesses the best electrocatalytic performance with the lowest overpotentials for both hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER), with 291 mV and 357 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm−2 for each. Herein, a micelle-assisted strategy was raised to coat mesoporous polydopamine (mPDA) on the surface of two-dimensional (2D) leaf-like zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFL) followed by confinement pyrolysis. The introduction of the mPDA layer can not only mitigate the backbone collapse of ZIFL during pyrolysis to build a favorable porous environment for efficient ion transport and diffusion, but also induce explosive growth of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to improve the electron conductivity. As expected, the derivative ZIFL@mPDA-C possessed a high desalination capacity of 41.9 mg g−1 in 500 mg L-1 NaCl solution at an operating voltage of 1.2 V. In particular, the retention ratio of the desalination capacity of ZIFL@mPDA-C was about 100 % after 50 consecutive adsorption-desorption cycles, while its leaf-like morphology and hierarchical pore structures were well preserved. Casein/starch composites are shown to act as potential candidates for binders of symmetric carbonaceous electrodes used in the capacitive deionization (CDI) of water. Casein and potato-starch biopolymers are cheap and environmentally friendly and may be implemented throughout a green process to obtain a carbonaceous CDI electrode using sole water as a solvent. It was found that among the different starch/casein mass ratios considered in this study (0 : 1, 1 : 1, 2 : 1, 1 : 2, 1 : 4 and 1 : 0), the ratio 1 : 2 resulted in an optimal CDI performance corresponding to 12.7 mg g−1, 50% and 1.01 W h g−1 for salt adsorption capacity, charge efficiency, and specific energy consumption, respectively. The outstanding performance observed is attributed to the formation of a binder with a hydrophilic mesoporous network carrying inherent positive and negative charges throughout the internal surface area, inducing both anion and cation-exchange membrane characteristics in the binder layer. For the optimal binder composition, the latter network possesses a dominant pore diameter of 4.65 nm, while the dominant pore diameter is less than 3.00 nm for the other samples, eventually enhancing ion species mass transfer through the polymer matrix. Ru(II) complexes with polypyridyl ligands (2,2′-bipyridine = bpy, 1,10-phenanthroline = phen) play a central role in the development of photocatalytic organic reactions. In this work, we synthesized four mixed-ligand [Ru(phen)(bpy)2]2+-type complexes (Ru-Pcat-A) bearing two phosphonate substituents P(O)(OH)(OR) (R = H, Et) attached to the phen core at positions 3,8 (Ru-3,8PH and Ru-3,8PHEt) and 4,7 (Ru-4,7PH and Ru-4,7PHEt) of the heterocycle in high yields (87–99%) and characterized them using spectral methods. Single crystal X-ray diffraction was employed to determine the coordination mode of the ditopic phen ligand in Ru-4,7PH. This complex exists as the neutral species and forms a 1D hydrogen-bonded framework in the crystals. The light absorption characteristics were found to be similar for all complexes prepared in this work. However, the emission maxima in aqueous solutions were significantly affected by the substitution of the heterocycle, ranging from 629 nm for Ru-4,7PH to 661 nm for Ru-3,8PHEt. The emission quantum yields in Ar-saturated deionized water showed a strong dependence on the substitution pattern of the phen ligand, with maximal values reaching approximately 0.11 for Ru-4,7PHEt and Ru-4,7PH, which is twice as high as that of the classical [Ru(bpy)3]2+ complex (Ru-bpy). The photocatalytic performance of Ru-Pcat-A was investigated using visible light photoredox catalytic transformations of tertiary amines. With Ru-Pcat-A, we achieved the phosphonylation of N-aryl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolines (THIQs) and cyanation of THIQs and N,N-dimethylaniline in methanol, while a mixture of nitromethane/methanol (1 : 1 v/v) proved to be the optimal solvent for conducting the nitromethylation of THIQs. In the majority of the studied reactions, Ru-4,7PHEt exhibited greater efficiency compared to Ru-bpy, and it could be easily separated from the products using water extraction and reused in the next catalytic cycle. Ni-impregnated Gd 0.1 Ce 0.9 O 2 and Y 0.08 Zr 0.92 O 2 fuel electrodes for solid oxide cells are manufactured by the combination of the freeze tape casting and infiltration techniques. Their morphological properties are investigated by scanning electron microscope and X-Ray microtomography while their electrochemical performance is evaluated in symmetrical Y 0.08 Zr 0.92 O 2 -supported button cells by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The microstructural analysis of the manufactured scaffolds highlights the characteristic anisotropy of porosity provided by the freeze tape casting method. The average tortuosity factor across the out of plane direction has been calculated equal to 1.38, being considerably lower than the average values of the other components, (τ x = 10.2) and (τ y = 6.87). The contribution provided by gas diffusion to the overall polarization resistance of the freeze tape cast electrodes has been estimated around 6·10−4 Ω cm2 in the 600–750 °C temperature range, thus lower than the best reported values for the state-of-the-art electrodes featuring sponge-like porosity. The measured impedance data highlighted the higher electrochemical performance of the Ni-impregnated Gd 0.1 Ce 0.9 O 2 architecture, holding a polarization resistance of 0.823 Ω cm2 at 750 °C, which is regarded as a very promising result for a ∼600 μm thick electrode. The interpretation of the impedance data was supported by the distribution of relaxation times analysis and the complex non-linear least square fit. In particular, the electrochemical investigation highlighted the presence of two major resistive contributions which have been ascribed to the occurrence of a chemical capacitance within the GDC10 lattice (low frequency contribution) and to the multi-layered architecture of the tested symmetrical cells which increases the contact losses (high frequency contribution). • The electrode design optimization is expected to increase its electrochemical performance. • Nanostructured graded porous electrodes for SOCs are shaped combining freeze tape casting and infiltration. • The anisotropy of gas diffusion channels is highlighted by the 3D reconstruction of the GDC10 scaffold. • The Ni-infiltrated GDC10 freeze tape cast scaffold is measured to be the best performing electrode architecture. • The electrochemical performance of the Ni-GDC10 electrode is mainly hindered by its low electronic conductivity. The performance of proton exchange membranes (PEMs) can be enhanced by creating continuous proton conduction channels. In this work, PVP-UiO-66-NH-SO 3 H nanoparticles (PUNSNPs) were prepared and filled into sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) to fabricate PUNSNPs/SPEEK composite PEMs. To further improve the performance of the PEMs, phosphoric acid (PA) was doped and a continuous nanopore network was formed in PA/PUNSNPs/SPEEK porous PEMs due to the dissolution of PUNSNPs. The PA/PUNSNPs/SPEEK porous PEMs have high PA uptake ratio (96%–117 %) and dimensional stability thanks to the anchoring effect of the nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ring on the PVP chains. The acid-base pairing interaction between the chains (residual ligands from PUNSNPs) inside the unique continuous nanopore structure allows PA/PUNSNPs/SPEEK = 20 % porous PEMs to have the highest proton conductivity of 0.350 S cm−1 (80 °C/100 % RH). Furthermore, the PA/PUNSNPs/SPEEK porous PEMs retained PA up to more than 80 % (80 °C, 40 % RH, 7 days). Similarly, PA/PUNSNPs/SPEEK = 20 % porous PEMs immersed in deionized water for 45 days were able to maintain a proton conductivity of more than 83 %. Finally, PA/PUNSNPs/SPEEK porous PEMs have low methanol permeability. Thus, this study provides a new method for the preparation of porous PEMs with a continuous nanopore network structure and excellent performance. We used PVP-UiO-66-NH-SO 3 H as a sacrificial template to construct porous PEMs. The formation of nanopores has a limiting effect on the ligands available for proton conduction resulting from the dissolution of PVP-UiO-66-NH-SO 3 H. [Display omitted] Urea electrolysis holds tremendous promise to provide green and sustainable energy and environmental solutions, because it can simultaneously remedy urea–containing wastewater and provide energy–saving hydrogen. However, the development of this emerging technology remains challenging mainly due to a dearth of high–performance electrocatalysts for efficient urea oxidation reaction (UOR). Perovskite fluorides have the advantages of intrinsic 3D diffusion pathways, robust architecture, and tunable chemical composition, thus receiving increasing attention in many applications. In this work, the UOR performances of a series of ABF 3 samples (A = K; B = Ni/Mn, Ni/Co, Co/Mn) with various compositions are investigated in a systematic fashion for the first time. Among the binary samples, KNMF41 (Ni/Mn atomic ratio = 4:1) is the optimal sample with reduced overpotential (reaching 100 mA cm−2 at 1.43 V), low Tafel slope (40 mV dec−1), enhanced reaction rate constant (6.3 × 105 cm3 mol−1 s−1), and high turnover frequency (TOF, 0.19 s−1 at 1.60 V) toward urea oxidation. By comparing with Ni Co and Co Mn samples, the binary Ni Mn design is confirmed to endow the perovskite fluoride with higher electrocatalytic activity, thanks to the directed adsorption of urea molecules on the adjacent Ni Mn active sites. Organic photoluminescent materials exhibiting room‐temperature phosphorescence (RTP) have attracted widespread attention. However, most of them can emit phosphorescence only in the solid state, which strongly limits their applications. Herein, a type of phosphorescent hydrogel with excellent mechanical properties is prepared by immersing an as‐prepared poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogel in a poly(sodium maleate) solution and then in a CaCl2 solution, followed by drying under stretching at 90 °C and finally soaking it in deionized water until equilibrium swelling to produce poly(vinyl alcohol)/poly(calcium maleate)‐DS (PVA/PMACa‐DS) hydrogels. Such hydrogels exhibit excellent mechanical properties, showing tensile strengths up to 15 MPa, due to the presence of strong hydrogen bonding and especially ionic bonding. The PVA/PMACa‐DS hydrogels emit varied phosphorescence emission colors from blue to yellow‐green upon excitation with 312–400 nm light, with a maximum lifetime of 13.4 ms. Experiments and theoretical calculations demonstrate that ionic crosslinking between Ca2+ and nonconventional chromophores prevents the contact of the nonconventional chromophores with water molecules and hence restricts nonradiative decay, leading to RTP emission. Anion exchange membranes (AEMs) play a critical role in anion exchange membrane-unitized regenerative fuel cells (AEM-URFCs). In this study, we investigated the effect of different membrane treatment processes on the performance of AEM-URFCs. By replacing bromide ions (Br−) with hydroxyl ions (OH−), we were able to greatly enhance cell performance. We treated a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) with KOH solutions of varying solvents and concentrations, which caused the AEM to swell and replace Br− ions with OH− ions. We found that the concentration of OH− ions in the KOH solution had a significant impact on Br− ion replacement. The MEA treated with 1.0 M KOH in a mixture of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and deionized water (H2O) (25/75 vol%) had the lowest Br− ion content and exhibited a current density of 215.0 mA cm−2 at 0.5 V (fuel cell mode) and 65.0 mA cm−2 at 2.0 V (water electrolyzer mode). These findings can inform future research on AEM-based fuel cells and water electrolyzers by identifying an optimal membrane pretreatment process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the implementation of carbon neutrality, more and more researchers are devoted to the development of biomass-based porous carbon materials using agricultural and forestry wastes for energy storage applications. However, biomass-derived carbon materials are still suffering from structural instability and difficult to regulate the pore structure, so it is very essential to study the regulation of pore structure in activation process of biochar. Therefore, this work developed an approach to modulate the pore structure of biomass porous carbon. The pyrolyzed biochar was primary activated by ZnCl2 to form the intermediate FC, and the FC was secondary activated by the impregnation method with the addition of trace KOH to form the graded porous carbon FCK-x. The prepared porous carbon exhibited a large specific surface area (2845 m² g−1) and a large pore volume (1.43 cm³ g−1), which is very favorable for efficient ion transport in the three-electrode system, FCK0.6 exhibited a specific capacitance of 321.7 F/g at 1A/g and the assembled supercapacitor exhibited high capacitance retention (95.17%) and charge retention (85%). The development of efficient energy storage systems is critical in the transition towards sustainable energy solutions. In this context, the present work investigates the viability of using orange juice, as a promising and sustainable precursor, for the synthesis of activated carbon electrodes for supercapacitor technologies. Through the carbonization-activation process and controlling the preparation parameters (KOH ratio and activation time), we have tailored the specific surface area (SSA) and pore size distribution (PSD) of the resulting carbon materials—crucial parameters that support supercapacitive performance. Several spectroscopic, morphological, and electrochemical techniques are used to characterize the obtained carbon materials. In particular, our optimization efforts revealed that a 5:1 KOH ratio with an activation time up to 120 min produced the highest SSA of about 2203 m2/g. Employing these optimal conditions, we fabricated symmetric coin cell supercapacitors using Na2SO4 as the electrolyte, which exhibited interesting specific capacitance (~56 F/g). Durability testing over 5000 cycles sustained the durability of the as-made activated carbon electrodes, suggesting an excellent retention of specific capacitance. This study not only advances the field of energy storage by introducing a renewable material for electrode fabrication but also contributes to the broader goal of waste reduction through the repurposing of food byproducts. [Display omitted] The electronic properties and structural characteristics of transition metal materials have a significant impact on their electrocatalytic performance. Therefore, precisely controlling the electronic states of core metals and fabricating catalysts with advanced structures are conducive to facilitating electrolysis process. Herein, we manipulate the electronic properties of the electroactive sites of catalysts by controlling the degree of phosphorization during the phosphorization process. The Co x P-FeP@C electrocatalysts, characterized by their sea-urchin morphology, were synthesized by subjecting CoFc-metal organic framework (MOF) precursors to phosphorization for specific time intervals. The optimized Co 2 P-FeP@C-5 electrocatalyst showed the optimum performance towards the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalytic efficiency with 239 mV overpotential and the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity with 169 mV overpotential to reach 10 mA·cm−2 in 1.0 M KOH (PH = 13.8). For comparison, the extended duration of phosphorization resulted in the formation of CoP-FeP@C-15 and CoP-FeP@C-30 electrocatalysts, which exhibited compromised electrocatalytic performance due to the transformation of the electroactive core Co 2 P to CoP during subsequent phosphorization processes. The improved interfacial properties between Co 2 P and FeP play a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency of water decomposition, attributed to the higher density of states (DOS) at the Fermi Level and the increased availability of electroactive sites for the adsorption of intermediates and electrolysis. These findings are substantiated by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. This approach offers a highly effective means of manipulating the electronic properties of the electroactive transition metal core by controlling the degree of phosphorization, with the ultimate goal of achieving efficient water splitting. Introduction/purpose of the research: Latent fingermarks can be found on the crime scene on various surfaces and made visible by different forensic methods. As this evidence can often be found on brass surfaces (ammunition casings, decorative items, etc.) the paper discusses the possibilities of applying electrochemical deposition of nickel on brass. The condition for the application of this technique is the existence of a conductive substrate. Fatty components of latent fingermarks have insulating properties and prevent the electrodeposition process. Methods: Experimental thin rectangular pieces of brass foil were used as substrates for latent fingermarks. Samples were degreased in acetone and ethyl alcohol, rinsed in deionized water, and dried in a stream of compressed air before leaving the fingermarks. To enhance the presence of sweat on friction ridges, the hand was placed in the silicone glove for five minutes. A slight touch of the index finger was left on the tiles. Fingermarks were developed on brass samples by fingerprint powder and the electrochemical deposition of nickel on another brass surface simultaneously. In order to obtain the best possible evidence, the parameters affecting the deposition rate (current density, deposition time) were changed until a clear fingermark was obtained. Results: The fingermarks were compared visually using a magnifying glass with illumination to observe the contrast between the papillary lines and the interpapillary space and the characteristic details (minutiae). The optimal results were achieved with the current density (deposition rate) of 50mA/cm2 for 10s. Conclusion: Electrochemical deposition of nickel on brass is an applicable technique for developing latent fingermarks with certain limitations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Remaining useful life (RUL) of lithium-ion batteries is an important indicator for battery health management, and accurate prediction can promote reliable battery system design, as well as safety and effectiveness of practical use. Therefore, we extract the health factor during charging and a multi-kernel support vector regression (MKSVR) RUL prediction model to achieve high accuracy estimation of the RUL of lithium-ion batteries. Firstly, based on the current, voltage, and temperature data during charging, seven characteristic parameters that can reflect the battery capacity decay are extracted, and then, three health factors (HF) that are highly correlated with the capacity decay are screened out using the Pearson coefficients. Secondly, the Gray wolf cuckoo search optimization (GWOCS) model is used to realize the intelligent optimization search of the kernel function parameter combinations of the multi-kernel support vector regression, and then the RUL prediction model of the multi-kernel support vector regression is established. Finally, the validation analysis is performed based on the NASA battery aging data set. The results show that the improved multi-kernel support vector regression has higher prediction accuracy compared with the single-kernel support vector regression, and its RUL prediction errors are all less than 5 cycles, and the maximum root mean square error is all less than 0.028. In last several decades, there are great development in electronic technology, which needs high performance cooling schemes urgently. Recently, an enhanced flow boiling of open micro-channel and jet impingement hybrid cooling scheme by separating liquid-vapor pathways is proposed with a critical heat flux of 546 W/cm2. Nevertheless, due to the introduction of jet impingement, the bubbles generated in channel are compelled to migrate to the fins top to gather and grow. Consequently, a new series of bubbles behavior and flow patterns were observed. In order to have a further understand of flow patterns and the transition mechanism, visualization experiments are conducted with the deionized water, inlet temperature is 16 - 19 °C, and volumetric flow rate for micro-channel and jet impingement is 50 ml/min respectively. Subsequently, a new phenomenon was observed, where the bubbles owned the various critical motion diameters in different flow regions. Finally, based on the force balance of a bubble on fin tops, a prediction model of critical motion diameter is also proposed. The maximum error is 20%. Fluoride is an important pollutant in wastewater, and adsorption is an effective way to remove fluoride. Because nitrogen plays an important role in adsorbent materials, computational models were developed to understand the changes in work function resulting from nitrogen doping. La-N-C-800°C, was prepared by pyrolyzing La-MOF-NH 2 to verify the influence on the performance of removing fluoride by electrosorption. Material and electrochemical performance tests were performed to characterize La-N-C-800°C. Adsorption kinetics, adsorption thermodynamics, initial concentrations, pH, and ions competition were investigated using La-N-C-800°C for fluoride removal. In addition, density functional theory was applied to evaluate the function of nitrogen. When nitrogen atoms were added, the density of states, partial density of states, populations, and different orbits of charge were calculated to discover deep changes. Nitrogen strengthened the carbon structure and La 2 O 3 structure to remove fluoride. In addition, nitrogen can also act as an adsorption site in the carbon structure. Herein, a 3D SERS substrate based on nickel foam (NF) and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs/NF 3D SERS) was synthesized using vacuum-assisted thermal evaporation deposition. The performance of the AgNPs/NF 3D SERS substrate was investigated using rhodamine 6G (R6G) as a probe molecule at different AgNP deposition levels. The highest sensitivity of the substrate with a limit of detection (LOD) of 10−9 M and an enhancement factor (EF) of 1.56 × 106 was achieved when the optimal amount of AgNPs was reached. Moreover, the use of R6G at 10−6 M concentration as the probe molecule ensured the relative standard deviation (RSD) of 9.2% for the AgNPs/NF 3D SERS substrate, and its SERS performance hardly decreased after 30 days of placement at room temperature, which evidenced that the prepared SERS substrate had favorable stability and repeatability. Finally, the substrate was used to analyze carbendazim in deionized and river water in two different environments. The results revealed that the LOD of CBZ was as low as 10−7 M under both conditions, and there was a good linear relationship between the CBZ concentration and the SERS signal intensity (R2 = 0.955 and 0.927, respectively), which demonstrated the great potential of AgNPs/NF 3D SERS substrates for pesticide residue identification in practical analysis. Aqueous zinc–sodium hybrid batteries with a Prussian blue cathode have been extensively studied in recent years. However, less research has been conducted on low-cost ferric ferricyanide (FeFe(CN)6) cathode materials. Considering that both Zn2+ and Na+ can be reversibly embedded in FeFe(CN)6 crystals, here we focus on mixed electrolytes with different concentrations of ZnSO4 and Na2SO4 in deionized water to explore the preference of FeFe(CN)6 towards Zn2+ and Na+. As a result, by using 0.1 M ZnSO4 + 1 M Na2SO4 electrolyte, a superior battery performance is obtained, which reveals that the co-function of Zn2+ and Na+ in this electrolyte promotes Zn//FeFe(CN)6 cells to exert a superior specific capacity. In this work, FeFe(CN)6 is synthesized by a co-precipitation method and is analyzed by XRD, SEM, etc., and then used as the cathode material in Zn–Na hybrid batteries. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and galvanostatic charge–discharge (GCD) tests show that FeFe(CN)6 in 0.1 M ZnSO4 + 1 M Na2SO4 electrolyte delivers the highest discharge/charge capacities of 165.2/165.9 mA h g−1 (theoretical specific capacity: 212.2 mA h g−1) at a 0.1 C current density, with good capacity retention of 84% after 200 cycles at 15 C, outperforming many of the reported Zn–Na hybrid cells. The present study proposes an approach to overcome the problem of corner/edge overheating of foods undergoing radio frequency heating. For testing, a container with a central rectangular compartment surrounded by a frame of four compartments was used. Wheat flour, a representative of low-moisture foods, was packed inside the rectangular compartment to provide a density of 800 kg/m3. Afterwards, in the surrounding compartments, air, deionized water and NaCl solution were used for independent radio frequency heating tests. Two different electrode gaps (135 and 145 mm) were employed. The temperature of the sample was measured continuously using fibre optic probes at four different internal locations. The difference between the maximum and the minimum temperatures for three different cases (a: air, b: deionized water and c: NaCl solution) were as follows for electrode gaps of 135 and 145 mm, respectively: (a) 27.3 and 26.1 °C, (b) 2.5 and 4.8 °C and (c) 3.7 and 1.8 °C. Uniformity index values were also calculated. The results showed that temperature variation within the sample was greatly reduced when the sample was surrounded by deionized water or NaCl solution. Ecdysis, transformation from juvenile to adult form in insects, is time-consuming and leaves insects vulnerable to predation. For winged insects, the process of wing expansion during ecdysis, unfurling and expanding the wings, is a critical bottleneck in achieving sexual maturity. Internal and external forces play a role in wing expansion. Vigorous abdominal pumping during wing expansion allows insects to pressurize and inflate their wings, filling them with hemolymph. In addition, many insects adopt expansion-specific postures and, if inhibited, do not expand their wings normally, suggesting that external forces such as gravity may play a role. However, two previous studies over 40 years ago, reported that the forewings of swarming locusts can expand autonomously when removed from the emerging insect and laid flat on a saline solution. Termed "autoexpansion," we replicated previous experiments of autoexpansion on flat liquid media, documenting changes in both wing length and area over time while also focusing on the role of gravity in autoexpansion. Using the North American bird grasshopper Schistocerca americana , we tested four autoexpansion treatments of varying surface tension and hydrophobicity (gravity, deionized water, buffer, and mineral oil) while simultaneously observing and measuring intact, normal wing expansion. Finally, we constructed a simple model of a viscoelastic expanding wing subjected to gravity, to determine whether it could capture aspects of wing expansion. Our data confirmed that wing autoexpansion does occur in S. americana , but autoexpanding wings, especially hindwings, failed to increase to the same final length and area as intact wings. We found that gravity plays an important role in wing expansion, early in the expansion process. Combined with the significant mass increase we documented in intact wings, it suggests that hydraulic pumping of hemolymph into the wings plays an important role in increasing the area of expanding wings, especially in driving expansion of the large, pleated hindwings. Autoexpansion in a non-swarming orthopteran suggests that local cues driving wing autoexpansion may serve a broader purpose, reducing total expansion time and costs by shifting some processes from central to local control. Documenting wing autoexpansion in a widely studied model organism and demonstrating a mathematical model provides a tractable new system for exploring higher level questions about the mechanisms of wing expansion and the implications of autoexpansion, as well as potential bioinspiration for future technologies applicable to micro-air vehicles, space exploration, or medical and prosthetic devices.
