Present study was conducted during 2021-22 in four NICRA implementing districts of Madhya Pradesh. Main aim of the study was to know the knowledge level of NICRA beneficiaries regarding climate resilient technologies being advocated by the scientist’s implementing NICRA project in selected Villages. A survey was conducted among randomly selected 300 NICRA beneficiaries with the help of an interview schedule. The findings of the study conclude that knowledge level of respondents benefiting by NICRA has a significant relationship with selected profile characteristics and it also shows that majority of the NICRA farmers (63.0 %) had a medium level knowledge on climate resilient technologies followed by low (23.7 %) and high (13.3 %).Hence there is a need to strengthen capacity building activities targeted to improve the knowledge and skills of adopt climate resilient agricultural technologies for sustainable agriculture. Purpose Growing evidence suggests that specific food groups may play an important role in improving mental health. However, very few studies explored the association between individual dietary factors and depression symptoms by following a large cohort of individuals over a long period. We examined the differential effects of fruit and vegetables in relation to depression symptoms over a 15-year follow-up period in the 1973–78 cohort of the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health. Methods Fruit and vegetable consumption was assessed using short questions. The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression-10 scale with a cut off ≥ 10 indicated depressive symptoms. Multiple imputations with generalised estimating equations models were performed to estimate odds ratio of depression symptoms according to fruit and vegetable consumption. Results A total of 4241 participants with a mean age of 27.6 (SD 1.45) years at baseline were followed up at five surveys (2003–2018). Fruit and vegetable intake (≥ 2 servings) was cross-sectionally associated with lower odds of depressive symptoms. In longitudinal analysis, a higher intake of fruit (≥ 4 servings) and vegetable (≥ 5 servings) was consistently associated with lower odds of depressive symptoms, with a 25% lower odds (OR 0.75; 95% CI 0.57, 0.97; p = 0.031) and a 19% lower odds (OR 0.81; 95% CI 0.70, 0.94; p = 0.007) than consuming one serve or less fruit and vegetable, respectively. Conclusion These results suggest that a higher intake of fruit and vegetables was associated with a lower risk of depression symptoms over 15 years from a population-based prospective study of Australian women.

ICT in agriculture offers a wide range of solutions to some agricultural challenges. It is seen as an emerging field focusing on the improvement of agricultural and rural development through improved information and communication processes. The mission is to make cost effective ICT based systems. These technologies besides improving the accessibility of the information for the farmers makes it possible for the providers of the extensional services to compete in a better and healthier environment. ICTs can be used to increase effectiveness and efficiency of extension system. Krishi Vigyan Kendra’s (KVK) scientists are playing a proactive role in transferring new technology at field level with beneficial impacts. So, in this era of information revolution, the KVKs Scientists should be encouraged to use ICTs for different extension activities and field works. Hence, an attempt was made through a research study was undertaken for 304 scientists working in different KVKs in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, to find out the accessible places and purposes of uses of ICTs among KVKs Scientists. The findings of the study revealed that vast majority (80.20%) of the respondents have the accessibility of mobile phone at office and home followed by computer system (61.88%), Internet Services (51.98%) and other ICT tools, Similarly in case of purpose of use of ICT tools by KVK scientists, majority of the respondents (100%) were using ICT tools for Social media followed by, Report writing (100%), Hooked up web based information (99.51%), Data storage (99.01%), Presentations (98.52%), Information retrieval/ data updating, Typing (98.02%) and so on respectively.

Background The burden of chronic conditions associated with sugary beverages is increasing but little is known about the role of different types of sugary beverages in the co-occurrence of multiple chronic conditions (‘multimorbidity’). To inform future sugar-reduction guidelines, we aimed to examine the associations of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB), artificially sweetened beverages (ASB) and natural juices (NJ) with multimorbidity. Methods This prospective cohort study included 184 093 UK Biobank participants aged 40–69 years at baseline who completed at least one occasion of 24-h dietary recall between 2009 and 2012. Daily consumptions of SSB, ASB and NJ were assessed using 24-h dietary recall. Participants were followed from the first 24-h assessment until the onset of two or more new chronic conditions, or the end of follow-up (31 March 2017), whichever occurred first. Logistic regression models, Cox proportional hazard models and quasi-Poisson mixed effects models were used to estimate the association of beverages intakes with chronic conditions and multimorbidity. Results A total of 19 057 participants had multimorbidity at baseline and 19 968 participants developed at least two chronic conditions during follow-up. We observed dose–response relationships of SSB and ASB consumptions with the prevalence and incidence of multimorbidity. For example, the adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% CIs of the incidence of developing at least two chronic conditions ranged from 1.08 (1.01–1.14) for SSB intake of 1.1–2 units/day to 1.23 (1.14–1.32) for >2 units/day compared with 0 units/day. Also, the adjusted HRs (95% CIs) of ASB consumption ranged from 1.08 (1.03–1.13) for 0.1–1 unit/day to 1.28 (1.17–1.40) for >2 units/day compared with non-consumers. Conversely, moderate consumption of NJ was associated with a smaller risk of the prevalence and incidence of multimorbidity. Moreover, higher intakes of SSB and ASB were positively associated whereas moderate intake of NJ was inversely associated with increased number of new-onset chronic conditions during follow-up. Conclusions Higher SSB and ASB intakes were positively associated whereas moderate NJ intake was inversely associated with the higher risk of multimorbidity and increased number of chronic conditions. Current and intended policy options to decrease the burden of chronic conditions and multimorbidity need a formulation of SSB and ASB reduction strategies.

Women with lower body mass index (BMI) have a higher risk of surgically confirmed endometriosis but this finding runs counterintuitive to the oestrogen-dependent theory for the disease. Increasingly, endometriosis is diagnosed via non-surgical methods. We examined BMI at age 18-23 years, and changes in BMI, and the risk of endometriosis according to the diagnostic method.We analysed data from 11 794 young women, born in 1989-95, who completed six surveys as part of an Australian, longitudinal cohort study between 2013 and 2018. Women's survey responses were linked to administrative health records to identify endometriosis. Cox proportional hazards models modelled associations between BMI at age 18-23 years, and changes in BMI, and endometriosis. Analyses were stratified by the diagnostic method of endometriosis: clinically confirmed endometriosis (based on hospital discharge diagnosis) versus clinically suspected endometriosis (women's reports of physician-diagnosed endometriosis).There were 223 cases of clinically confirmed endometriosis and 396 cases of clinically suspected endometriosis. Women who gained weight after age 18-23 had lower risk of clinically confirmed endometriosis than women without endometriosis whose weight remained stable (HR = 0.64, 95% CI = 0.47-0.88). Women who were overweight (HR = 1.29, 95% CI = 1.01-1.66) at age 18-23 had higher risk of clinically suspected endometriosis than women of normal weight without endometriosis.The risk of clinically confirmed endometriosis was lower among women who gained weight compared to women with stable weight. The risk of clinically suspected endometriosis was higher among women who were overweight compared to normal weight.

New evidence shows that up to 40% of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) cases are attributable to exposure to potentially modifiable factors. We can now identify people at higher risk of RA (pre-RA) through their family history, risk factors, autoantibodies and symptoms. Counselling these patients to act to modify factors known to be associated with RA risk could prevent the development of RA, and evidence shows that informing individuals of their risk and of ways to reduce it leads to positive behavioural change and is not harmful. This consumer-focussed narrative review is targeted at primary care providers and physicians to describe 11 changes that can be made, based on current evidence linking potentially modifiable factors to RA risk. These evidence-based recommendations are: (i) cease smoking; (ii) reduce exposure to inhaled silica, dusts and occupational risks; (iii) maintain a healthy weight; (iv) increase leisure time physical activity; (v) maintain good dental hygiene; (vi) maximise breastfeeding if able; (vii) maximise dietary quality and avoid high-salt diets; (viii) consume high levels of omega-3 fatty acids and fish; (ix) reduce consumption of sugar-sweetened soft drinks; (x) consume moderate levels of alcohol; and (xi) remain vitamin D replete.

Short and long intervals between successive births are associated with adverse birth outcomes, especially in low-income and middle-income countries, yet the birth intervals in high-income countries remain relatively understudied. The aim was to examine maternal factors associated with birth intervals in Australia.The sample comprised 6130 participants in the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health who were born in 1973-1978, had two or more births, and responded to regular surveys between 1996 and 2018. Interbirth interval (IBI) was defined as the time between successive live births. Maternal factors were examined using accelerated failure time models.For women with only two births (n = 3802), the median time to the second birth was 34.0 months (IQR 23.1, 46.2) with shorter IBI associated with higher socioeconomic status (eg, university education (31.9 months), less income stress (31.1)), and longer IBI associated with age over 35 (39.7), fair/poor health (43.0), untreated fertility problems (45.5), miscarriage (39.4), or abortion (41.0). For women with three or more births (n = 2328), the median times to the second and third births were 31.2 months (19.9, 42.1) and 36.5 months (25.3, 50.1), respectively; some factors were consistent between the first IBI and second IBI (eg, university education and being married were associated with shorter IBI), whereas income stress was associated with longer first IBI but not with second IBI.Understanding maternal factors associated with birth intervals in a high-income country like Australia may enable more nuanced tailoring of guidelines for prepregnancy care.

Background and Purpose: Stroke is one of the leading causes of mortality, and women are impacted more from stroke than men in terms of their absolute number and in having worse outcomes. A growing number of studies have explored the association between pregnancy complications, pregnancy outcomes, and stroke. Limited studies, however, have investigated links involving infertility, miscarriage, and stillbirth, which could plausibly be associated via a background of endocrine conditions, endothelial dysfunction, and chronic systematic inflammation. This review aims to summarize current evidence and provide up-to-date information on the associations of infertility, miscarriage, and stillbirth, with stroke incidence. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted for cohort and case-control studies on associations between infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth, and stroke up to September 26, 2020. Seven databases were searched: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, CINIHL, PsyclNFO, Wanfang, and CNKI. Random-effects models were used to estimate the pooled hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% CIs. Results: Sixteen cohort studies and 2 case-control studies enrolling 7 808 521 women were included in this meta-analysis. Women who had experienced miscarriage or stillbirth were at higher risk of stroke (miscarriage: HR, 1.07 [95% CI, 1.00–1.14]; stillbirth: HR, 1.38 [95% CI, 1.11–1.71]) than other women. The HRs of stroke for each additional miscarriage and stillbirth were 1.13 (95% CI, 0.96–1.33) and 1.25 (95% CI, 1.06–1.49), respectively. In subgroup analysis, increased risk of stroke was associated with repeated miscarriages and stillbirths (miscarriage ≥3: HR, 1.42 [95% CI, 1.05–1.90]; stillbirth ≥2: HR, 1.14 [95% CI, 1.04–1.26]). Associations between infertility and stroke were inconsistent and inconclusive (HR, 1.07 [95% CI, 0.87–1.32]). Conclusions: Miscarriage and stillbirth are associated with increased risk of stroke among women, which could be used as a contributing risk factor to help identify women at higher risk of stroke.

Some reproductive factors are found to be associated with metabolic outcomes in women; however, little is known about reproductive lifespan characteristics and the mutual effect of age at menarche and age at menopause on cardiovascular risk. This systematic review evaluated reproductive lifespan characteristics and describes the mutual effect of age at menarche and age at menopause on the risk of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and hypertension at midlife. PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science were screened for studies published up to September 1, 2020. The individual effect estimates were reviewed and synthesized without meta-analysis due to methodological and clinical or conceptual diversity in reported studies. Of the 3033 identified studies, 20 were included in the final synthesis: 6 reported reproductive life span; 12 reported age at menarche, and 7 reported age at menopause. Synthesis of two cohorts, with a median follow-up of 9-11 years, showed that a shorter reproductive lifespan was positively associated with T2DM, yielding 6-15% higher risk of T2DM for a one-year decrease in reproductive lifespan. A few studies also demonstrated that women who experienced early menarche (four of six studies) and early menopause (two of five studies) were positively associated with risk of T2DM. The association between reproductive lifespan and hypertension was unclear due to the limited availability of studies. Our findings suggest that a shorter reproductive lifespan is associated with T2DM risk in postmenopausal women, especially those with early menarche and early menopause. Large cohort studies are needed to assess the association between reproductive lifespan and incident hypertension in midlife.

Sexual harassment has been a major problem in the past few decades for women at the workplace. It has been the most debatable problem worldwide; every country is trying to give safeguard to women at the workplace against sexual harassment and to remedy this problem. The problem of sexual harassment got attention by given guidelines of the Government of India in the star case of Vishakha vs. State of Rajasthan. Apart from the Vishakha guidelines, the Indian Government passed the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act in the year of 2013. This act provides safety to women at the workplace against sexual harassment. The problem sexual harassment decrease ratio participation of women in work and discourages contribution women in economic development of the nation and their social development. The act is providing safer working environment to women, which has positive impact on their participation in work as well as economic development.

This cross-sectional study examines whether children of different ages in families in Australia follow age-based screen time guidelines.

Objective Methods for meta-analysis of studies with individual participant data and continuous exposure variables are well described in the statistical literature but are not widely used in clinical and epidemiological research. The purpose of this case study is to make the methods more accessible. Study Design and Setting A two-stage process is demonstrated. Response curves are estimated separately for each study using fractional polynomials. The study-specific curves are then averaged pointwise over all studies at each value of the exposure. The averaging can be implemented using fixed effects or random effects methods. Results The methodology is illustrated using samples of real data with continuous outcome and exposure data and several covariates. The sample data set, segments of Stata and R code, and outputs are provided to enable replication of the results. Conclusion These methods and tools can be adapted to other situations, including for time-to-event or categorical outcomes, different ways of modelling exposure-outcome curves, and different strategies for covariate adjustment.

To compare health-related quality of life (HRQoL) between mothers and females who were voluntarily or involuntarily childless, across their reproductive years.4100 females born in 1973-78 from the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health were followed for 22 years. Motherhood status was defined by females' reports in Survey 8 (2018, 40-45 years) on their fertility, attempts to conceive, use of in vitro fertilization and fertility hormones, and number of children. HRQoL was assessed in each survey using the 36-Item Short Form Survey (SF-36). Linear mixed models were used to assess the associations between motherhood status and HRQoL.Over 22 years, compared with females who were voluntarily childless, mothers on average had better HRQoL (shown by scores 1.5 to 3.4 points higher on five of the eight SF-36 subscales), while females who were involuntarily childless scored 2.2 to 3.0 points lower on three of eight SF-36 subscales. Compared with females who were voluntarily childless, teen mothers (age at first birth 20 years) scored lower on role limitations due to physical problems subscale (b = -5.5, 95% CI: -9.3, -1.6), while females with either two, or three or more children scored 1.6 to 4.8 points higher on seven of eight SF-36 subscales.Females who were childless had poorer HRQoL than mothers. Further research is needed to understand the underlying mechanisms, which could inform policymakers on how to reduce the health disparities and improve long-term health outcomes for females.

Objective:To examine dietary patterns changes from preconception to during pregnancy and their associations with socio-demographic and lifestyle factors.Design:This study used data from the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health (ALSWH), a population-based prospective cohort study. Women’s dietary patterns were assessed using Healthy Eating Index-2015 (HEI-2015) score and the four patterns were obtained from the factor analysis (Western diets, vegetable and grains, traditional vegetable and fruit patterns). Multi-variable linear regression and repeated measures mixed-effect models were used.Setting:A national representative survey which covers all Australian citizens and permanent residents in Australia.Participants:621 women were included from the ALSWH.Results:Women’s scores increased on the ‘HEI-2015’, ‘traditional vegetable’ and ‘fruit’ patterns while the ‘vegetable and grains’ decreased from preconception to during pregnancy. Women with higher education were more likely to increase their HEI-2015 score and fruit consumption from preconception to during pregnancy, respectively (β = 2·31, (95 % CI 0·02, 4·60)) and (β = 23·78, (95 % CI 4·58, 42·97)), than those with lower educational status. Single women were more likely to increase the consumption of vegetables and grains compared to married women (β = 76·08, (95 % CI 20·83, 131·32)). Women with higher income had a greater increase in the HEI-2015 score than those with lower income (β = 3·02, (95 % CI 0·21, 5·83)).Conclusion:The findings indicate that there have been marked dietary changes from preconception to during pregnancy. Changes in healthy dietary patterns were influenced by education, marital status and income.

BACKGROUND Large-scale studies exploring the associations of asthma severity, exacerbations and medication use with adverse perinatal outcomes have been published in recent years. OBJECTIVES To update evidence on the associations of asthma severity, exacerbations and medication use with the adverse perinatal outcomes of preterm delivery (PD), low birthweight (LBW) and small-for-gestational-age (SGA). SEARCH STRATEGY PubMed, Embase, Wanfang, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) from inception to 1 January 2021. SELECTION CRITERIA Cohort studies comparing the likelihood of adverse perinatal outcomes in groups of asthmatic women stratified by asthma severity, asthma exacerbations or medication use, or comparing the likelihood of adverse perinatal outcomes between non-asthmatic women and asthmatics of various levels of severity and exacerbation. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS Two authors independently extracted data and assessed risk of bias. Random-effects models were used to meta-analyse the results. MAIN RESULTS Twenty studies met the inclusion criteria. The odds of delivering SGA babies increased with maternal asthma severity. Pregnant women with an asthma exacerbation had higher odds of delivering LBW babies and SGA babies, compared with pregnant women with asthma but without an exacerbation (pooled adjusted odds ratio [OR] 1.15, 95% CI 1.02-1.29 for LBW; number of studies with adjusted OR 3; I2 = 0%) (pooled adjusted OR 1.13, 95% CI 1.04-1.23 for SGA; number of studies with adjusted OR 4; I2 = 0%) and compared to pregnant women without asthma. Oral corticosteroids use during pregnancy was associated with increased odds of LBW, but not PD. CONCLUSIONS The available data suggest that maternal asthma severity and exacerbations are associated with increased odds of LBW and SGA babies. TWEETABLE ABSTRACT A systematic review and meta-analysis found that maternal asthma severity and exacerbations are associated with increased odds of delivering low birthweight and small-for-gestational-age babies.

STUDY QUESTION Do the outcomes and use of ART differ between women with and without endometriosis? SUMMARY ANSWER ART use and outcome do not appear to differ for women with and without endometriosis, as long as endometriosis is diagnosed prior to commencing ART. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Approximately 40% of women with endometriosis have infertility and ART is the recommended treatment option for these women. However, diagnosis of endometriosis can be complex and lengthy, and a delay in diagnosis can reduce the likelihood of achieving a live birth. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION This retrospective national cohort study used longitudinal self-report data (collected 1996–2018) from women born in 1973–1978 who are participants in the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health (ALSWH). The study also used linked administrative data on Endometriosis (1970–2018), ART (1996–2020) and births (1996–2018). PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS The outcome measures were: age at first ART cycle; use of ART treatments (IVF only; IUI only/and IVF); number of ART cycles (1–3; 4–10; 11–36); and births after first ART (no; yes) (note that births could not be tied to ART). MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE One in three (34.7%, n = 459/1322) women using ART had endometriosis, with 65.6% of these diagnosed before first ART and 34.4% after. Adjusted regression analyses showed women with endometriosis diagnosed before first ART were not significantly different to women without endometriosis on any outcome. However, women with endometriosis diagnosed after first ART were more likely to use IUI (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) 2.14, 95% CI 1.48, 3.09) and do more cycles (11–36 cycles: aOR 4.09, 95% CI 2.41, 6.95), and less likely to report a birth (aOR 0.67, 95% CI 0.45, 0.99), compared to women without endometriosis, despite no significant difference in starting age (coefficient = −0.62, 95% CI −1.36, 0.13). LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION We did not have information on the severity of endometriosis, or the reasons for using ART, which can influence treatment and outcomes. We were not able to reliably link births with ART treatment. Finally, it is possible that some of the women in our ‘no endometriosis’ group did have endometriosis and were unaware of it, although prevalence rates match population estimates. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS These findings support previous studies that have found no difference in outcome of ART for women with endometriosis, but add the new insight that this is only true if endometriosis is diagnosed prior to commencing ART. A delayed diagnosis can create disadvantage during ART treatment. Early recourse to IVF may be advantageous for pregnancy prospects for women with endometriosis. Objective: To measure menopausal symptoms and quality of life up to 12 months after risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO) and to measure the effects of hormone therapy. Methods: Prospective observational study of 95 premenopausal women planning RRSO and a comparison group of 99 who retained their ovaries. Vasomotor symptoms and menopausal-related quality of life (QoL) were measured by the Menopause-Specific QoL Intervention scale at baseline, 3, 6 and 12 months. Chi-square tests measured differences in prevalence of vasomotor symptoms between RRSO vs the comparison group and by hormone therapy use. Change in QoL were examined with multilevel modelling. Results: Three months after RRSO hot flush prevalence increased from 5.3% to 56.2% and night sweats from 20.2% to 47.2%. Superfluid helium nanodroplets are often considered as transparent and chemically inert nanometer-sized cryo-matrices for high-resolution or time-resolved spectroscopy of embedded molecules and clusters. On the other hand, when the helium nanodroplets are resonantly excited with XUV radiation, a multitude of ultrafast processes are initiated, such as relaxation into metastable states, formation of nanoscopic bubbles or excimers, and autoionization channels generating low-energy free electrons. Here, we discuss the full spectrum of ultrafast relaxation processes observed when helium nanodroplets are electronically excited. In particular, we perform an in-depth study of the relaxation dynamics occurring in the lowest 1s2s and 1s2p droplet bands using high resolution, time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy. The simplified excitation scheme and improved resolution allow us to identify the relaxation into metastable triplet and excimer states even when exciting below the droplets' autoionization threshold, unobserved in previous studies.

PurposePrevious studies have identified associations between individual reproductive factors and chronic disease risk among postmenopausal women. However, few have investigated the association of different markers of reproductive function, their interactions and risk factors of chronic disease among women approaching menopause. The Menarche-to-PreMenopause (M-PreM) Study aims to examine the relationship between reproductive factors across the reproductive lifespan and risk indicators for chronic disease among women in their early-to-mid-40s. The purpose of this cohort profile paper is to describe the rationale, study design and participant characteristics of the M-PreM Study.ParticipantsWomen born in 1973–1978 who participated in the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health (ALSWH) were invited to undertake a clinical or self-administered assessment. A total of 1278 women were recruited from June 2019 to June 2021.Findings to dateThe study measures included functional, cognitive and cardiometabolic tests, anthropometry, spirometry, respiratory health questionnaires, physical activity, sleep patterns, sex hormones, and cardiovascular and metabolic markers; whereas blood and saliva samples were used for the analysis of genetic variants of genes associated with reproductive characteristics and chronic disease. The mean age of the clinic and self-assessed participants was 44.6 and 45.3 years, respectively. The menopausal status of participants was similar between the two arms of the study: 38%–41% premenopausal, 20% perimenopausal, and 36% took oral contraception or hormone replacement therapy. Approximately 80% of women had at least one child and participants reported experiencing pregnancy complications: preterm birth (8%–13% of pregnancies), gestational diabetes (10%) and gestational hypertension (10%–15%).Future plansThe biomedical data collected in the M-PreM Study will be linked to existing ALSWH survey data on sociodemographic factors, health behaviour, reproductive function, and early life factors collected over the past 20 years and health administrative data. The association between reproductive factors and risk indicators of chronic disease will be analysed.
