Interest in the rhetorical aspects of the Internet is still not significant in academia. The present study intends to show how the Internet is, in fact, a cultural artefact and a medium in which a pertinent rhetorical discourse can be elaborated. Therefore, we seek to analyse and present what would be the elements or aspects that every web space should implement and how the (multimedia) discourse manages to persuade visitors of the importance of their content and manages to maintain them as permanent users. cultural artefact ,Upper Silesianness ,cultural identity ,symbol ,Polishness - Abstract
The book which is devoted to the mythopoeic Moniuszko narratives featured in Upper Silesian culture is the second and the final volume of the publication entitled Silesian Moniuszko. The reception of the figure and the output of the composer in Upper Silesia. A sociological study, which is based in its entirety on the PhD dissertation of the author entitled The construction of national identity through music. The reception of the figure and the output of Stanisław Moniuszko in Upper Silesia in the 20th century. A sociological study, which was defended at the Department of Social Sciences of the University of Silesia in 2015. The book presents the results of an analysis associated with the process of the assimilation of the figure and the selected works of Stanisław Moniuszko, approached to as a cultural artefact peculiar to the intersubjective space of Polish cultural identity, to the Upper Silesian culture. What is significant is the fact that along with the transformations of Upper Silesianness which occurred in the 20th century, and especially after the Second World War, also the content which was attributed by the activists of Silesian associated amateur circles of songsters and the creators of the reception of the stage works of the composer presented in Silesia to Stanisław Moniuszko changed. The post-war Upper Silesian reception of Moniuszko formed by the authors of press statements which described the activity of the Silesian amateur choirs and instrumental ensembles – the heirs to the Association of Silesian Circles of Singers – manifested features of double-track mythologisation. On the one hand, sometimes one ascribed to Moniuszko the role of a precursor of Polish socialism, which was consistent with the agenda of the socialist Polish state. On the other hand, one maintained the narrative which rendered the figure of the composer a symbol of the Polishness of Upper Silesia, created by the Association of Silesian Circles of Songsters in the inter-war period. A particularly interesting fact is that within the framework of the activities of this amateur musical association realised after 1989 one disseminated a new Moniuszko narrative – a narrative about the friend of the Silesian team of songsters. This is interpreted as an indicator of a change of the relation which gradually came into being between Silesian culture and the cultures of other nationalities which influenced Silesianness. In the modern documents signed by the Silesian Association of Choirs and Orchestras – the heir to the Association of Silesian Circles of Songsters – Silesianness is presented not only as a value but also as a subjective space, which contains references to other nationalities, including references to Polishness. An analysis of the reception of the figure of Stanisław Moniuszko and his stage works, especially his first opera, Halka, created on the basis of a narrative which refers, respectively to: the performances of Warsaw artists conducted by Emil Młynarski in the plebiscite area in 1920, the activities of the opera stage in Teatr Polski im. Stanisława Wyspiańskiego in Katowice in 1922–1931, guest performances of Moniuszko’s works in Teatr Polski in Katowice in 1932–1939, the activities of Opera Śląska in 1945–2010, also revealed that there is a Moniuszko narrative, peculiar to this region, which refers to the first opera of the composer – “the Silesian Halka”. Another interesting thing has to do with the evolution of the content ascribed to this opera by the creators of the instances of reception which refer to the particular performance of Moniuszko’s work staged in Opera Śląski in Bytom. On the one hand, one constantly mentions the events which constitute the “Silesian heritage” of this work, on the other hand, one ascribes to the author of this work the fulfilment of social roles, whose relevance is dictated by the context of reception: a national artist in Polish music, a precursor of Polish socialism or the creator of works of universal significance.

Since his first appearance in 1939, Batman has played a great role in the popular culture as an iconic figure. During the period of over seventy-five years Batman followed the social and political changes and managed to reflect the problems and concerns of the society in his comic books. This paper deals with the question of defining comic books as a form of literature. Furthermore, it examines the factors that allowed Batman to be such a great part of the popular culture through examples taken from iconic comic books and graphic novels of the Batman canon, such as Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Year One, Alan Moore’s Batman: The Killing Joke and Grant Morrison’s Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth. The provided examples serve to present Batman as a cultural artefact and to manifest the fluidity of Batman’s canon. With his increasing popularity Batman continues to be an essential part of the popular culture and a unique character in the world of comics which makes him an interesting topic and worthy of study. The Dark Knight Returns i Batman: Year One, Alan Mooreov Batman: The Killing Joke i Grant Morrisonov Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth.

A Roman villa, built during the Augustan period and occupied until the first years of the 4th century A. D., was discovered during an excavation at Charny •les Champs-de-Choisy” (Seine-et-Marne) in 2004. The numerous finds from the ditches of the first enclosure include a limestone anthropomorphic bust, a fragmentary stela and a damask strigil. The presence of this artefact raises a number of questions about the site, as there seems to have been no public baths in the area until the second half of the 1st century A. D. However the associated finds give a fair idea of the symbolism of this type of artefact and provide new evidence concerning the Roman status of the villa’s landowners., Les fouilles archéologiques menées au lieu-dit les Champs-de-Choisy sur la commune de Charny (Seine-et-Marne) en 2004 ont permis de mettre au jour une villa bâtie à l’époque augustéenne et occupée jusque dans les premières décennies du ive s. The object in this thesis is to investigate why a television series House M.D. is so popular. Television series is conceived as a widely shared pop-culture artefact, which is a major proof how the human mind is shaped by and expressed through culture in terms of cultural psychology. The question of mechanisms, offers or content that are causing the popularity of this series is examined from the perspective of several psychological concepts. The popularity of the series was examined by the analysis of the artefact itself and additionally from the perspective of the viewers. This examination led to the conclusion that the popularity of the series House M.D. lies in several different aspects. The first aspect is seen in innovations this series brings to the viewer due to the traditional established form of medical drama. The second aspect is based on identifying, describing patterns and representing certain offers for various components of viewer ("products for the mind"). The third aspect lies in interpretation of the series as "sociodrama" that solves certain imaginary opposites. The fourth aspect is loosely based on Bamberg's theory of narrative positioning that on three levels shows how the character of doctor House is attractive to the viewer, what it provides and how the series reflects the...

Local cosmologies and traditional perceptions of the natural environment, especially forests, have been a major influence in the management of the natural resources and biodiversity amongst rural communities in the transitional zone of Ghana. Sacred groves, which are typical outputs of traditional conservation practices, derive from indigenous religious beliefs and perceptions of forest. Sacred groves are believed to be the abode of local gods, ancestral spirits and other super natural beings. These beliefs and perceptions have in the past strongly supported the conservation of biodiversity. However, changes in local cosmologies threaten the protection of rare species, habitats and ecological processes. Data from the study confirm evidence from several studies in Ghana and elsewhere in West Africa that the tremendous ecological, social, institutional, religious and economic changes in communities that have protected sacred groves threaten the survival of these cultural artefacts. The paper demonstrates that in contemporary natural resources management, the sacred grove model may still be used as a means of restoring and protecting landscapes in indigenous communities. Even in communities where population explosion and economic pressures have reached thresholds that undermine the natural landscape, the model may still be useful to keep pockets of forests within the landscape.
