87. An Investigation of Passengers' Psychological Benefits from Green Brands in an Environmentally Friendly Airline Context: The Moderating Role of Gender.

Abstract

In recent years, as natural environmental problems have become more serious, environmentally friendly airlines have been attracting attention from many practitioners and scholars. The purpose of this study was to apply the concept of psychological benefits of green brands in an environmentally friendly airline context. Based on the theoretical relationships between the conceptual constructs, a model was developed and then evaluated using data collected from 322 airline passengers in Korea. The results indicated that the three sub-dimensions of psychological benefits of green brands (i.e. warm glow, self-expressive benefits and nature experiences) help to enhance the overall image of an environmentally friendly airline. Furthermore, the overall image plays an important role in the formation of three outcome variables: intentions to use, word-of-mouth intentions and willingness to pay more. Abstract

Cooperation and outsourcing among providers in the air cargo industry has received serious attention, with the hope that this would reduce providers operating costs. Due to the increasing costs of developing new service products and improving service quality, partnership formation is an important way to achieve business excellence for providers. Furthermore, shippers prefer to use service providers, which can handle all aspects of transportation. This situation forces service providers to forge partnerships with each other in order to create a complete service chain. The aim of this thesis is to study the choice behaviour in the vertical and horizontal partnerships in the emerging airfreight business structure. Discrete choice analysis is utilised to establish the factors that affect shippers and providers partner choice and to quantify the importance of these factors in partnership formation choices. The proposed choice models were constructed by SP data obtained from the Korean air cargo market. This thesis also studied different sectors and industries in order to capture any previously unobserved differences between the sectors. Furthermore, the attributes of WTP and WTA were analysed as possible service quality attributes which can be used for future service product improvement. This study also simulated how new products being offered in the market could cause changes. Results showed that the price and delivery time attributes of cargo are the most significant factors, whereas the risk of damage and loss attribute is the least significant factors for shippers choice behaviour. In regards to the providers choice behaviour, reducing time and consolidation are among the most significant factors that may influence choices for partner formation. In addition, the results from WTP and WTA suggested that service providers should focus on increasing service levels for handling capacity and loyalty benefits to improve vertical partnership. In the case of improving horizontal partnerships, service providers should focus on value-added services, such as consolidation. Lastly, the results from simulations showed that not only will a service provider lose market share when a competitor offers a new product, but also that the market share loss will be larger when its own service products can be substituted by competitor s new offer.

Abstract

Background: The prevalence of osteoporosis associated with the aging process is anticipated to increase along with the rising aging population. Periodontitis that the most common chronic infections of humankind is considered the risk factor for osteoporosis. The aim of this study was to identify the association between osteoporosis and periodontitis using a population-based cohort.Methods: The case group was defined as patients diagnosed with periodontitis and treated with subgingival curettage, root conditioning, periodontal flap operation, bone grafting for alveolar bone defects, and guided tissue regeneration. Case and control groups matched for gender, age, household income, type of social security, disability, and residential area were generated. A Cox proportional hazard model was constructed to examine the difference in the development of osteoporosis between the case and control groups. The final sample included 13,464 participants.Results: The incidence of osteoporosis was 1.1% in males and 15.8% in females during a 10-year period. The risk factors for osteoporosis in males were increasing age and Charlson Comorbidity Index score. Periodontitis was not associated with the development of osteoporosis in males. The risk factors for osteoporosis in females were increasing age, body mass index, Charlson Comorbidity Index score, diabetes, and periodontitis. Women with periodontitis were more likely to also develop osteoporosis (HR: 1.22, 95% CI: 1.01-1.48).Conclusions: Periodontitis has an effect on the development of osteoporosis in females. Managing good teeth is required for the prevention and delay of osteoporosis. This includes dental examinations, regular cleanings and gum treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
