52. Generic Regular Decompositions for Generic Zero-Dimensional Systems

Abstract

Two new concepts, generic regular decomposition and regular-decomposition-unstable (RDU) variety for generic zero-dimensional systems, are introduced in this paper and an algorithm is proposed for computing a generic regular decomposition and the associated RDU variety of a given generic zero-dimensional system simultaneously. The solutions of the given system can be expressed by finitely many zero-dimensional regular chains if the parameter value is not on the RDU variety. The so called weakly relatively simplicial decomposition plays a crucial role in the algorithm, which is based on the theories of subresultant chains. Furthermore, the algorithm can be naturally adopted to compute a non-redundant Wu's decomposition and the decomposition is stable at any parameter value that is not on the RDU variety. The algorithm has been implemented with Maple 15 and experimented with a number of benchmarks from the literature. 65. p-Extended Nonfullerene Acceptor for Compressed Molecular Packing in Organic Solar Cells To Achieve over 20% Efficiency

Abstract

Organic photovoltaics (OPVs) suffer from a trade-off between efficient charge transport and suppressed nonradiative recombination due to the aggregation-induced luminance quenching of organic semiconductors. To resolve this grand challenge, a p-extended nonfullerene acceptor (NFA) B6Cl with large voids among the honeycomb network is designed and introduced into photovoltaic systems. We find that the presence of a small amount of (i.e., 0.5 or 1 wt %) B6Cl can compress the molecular packing of the host acceptor L8-BO, leading to shortened p–p stacking distance from 3.59 to 3.50 Å (that will improve charge transport) together with ordered alkyl chain packing (that will inhibit nonradiative energy loss due to the suppressed C–C and C–H bonds vibrations), as validated by high-energy X-ray scattering measurements. This morphology transformation ultimately results in simultaneously improved JSC, FF, and VOCof OPVs.As a result, the maximum PCEs of PM6:L8-BO and D18:L8-BO are increased from 19.1 and 19.3% to 19.8 and 20.2%, respectively, which are among the highest values for single-junction OPVs. The university of B6Cl to increase the performance of OPVs is further evidenced in a range of polymer:NFA OPVs.

66. Report of a three-year monitoring programme at Heshang Cave, Central China

Abstract

Heshang Cave is situated in central China (30°27’N, 110°25’E; 294 m) in the middle reaches of the Yangtze Valley, a region strongly impacted by the East Asian Monsoon. It contains large annually-laminated Holocene and late Pleistocene stalagmites which capture past monsoon behaviour with seasonal resolution, and could enhance understanding of the amplitude and frequency of monsoon behaviour in different climate states. In this paper, we present results of a 3-year monitoring programme at Heshang. T loggers outside the cave agree closely with T data from nearby meteorological stations. T at the site of growth of the largest recovered stalagmite averages 18°C (identical to mean annual T outside the cave) with a seasonal amplitude of 5ºC (about one fifth of the external cycle). Rainfall measurements from a station 3 km from the cave indicate strong summer monsoon rain in 2004 and 2005, but rather weaker summer rain (by ≈30%) in 2006. Drip rate at the monitoring site has a base flow of 14 drips/minute and shows a sharp increase to ≈40 drips/minute early in the summer rains of 2004 and 2005, followed by a gradual return to base-flow as the monsoon weakens. This abrupt change presumably represents threshold behaviour in the hydrological system. This threshold is not passed in 2006 and there is no abrupt increase in drip rate, indicating the sensitivity of this site (and presumably of speleothem chemistry in this cave) to monsoon rainfall. Results are also reported from a 10-month deployment of a Stalagmate drip counter, and for CO2 levels in Heshang Cave. Overall, this monitoring work represents an essential dataset for interpretation of the chemistry of drip waters, of carbonates grown on glass slides and, ultimately, of long speleothem records of past climate from Heshang Cave.

Abstract

Starches are widely used in the meat industry for reasons of water binding, improvement of texture and slicebility. Starch and modified starch are used as such or as a blend, often in combination with other hydrocolloids and/or proteins. with the currently known starch types, however, a combination of high water binding and holding, as well as improved firmness cannot be achieved. For example, native potato starch provides reasonable firmness and water holding, whereas corn starch provides high firmness but poor water binding and water holding. A regular amylopectin potato starch can provide very high water holding bud does not provide firmness. The present invention provides a starch which is usable in a pasteurized meat product to provide both high water holding and high firmness.

Abstract

The invention provides a method for suppressing off-flavour formation in meat substitutes which have been bound with native patatin. The method comprises a) providing a mixture comprising water, a denatured pro- tein, native patatin and a lipid, which lipid is defined as a substance comprising fatty acid tri-esters of glycerol; b) shaping the meat substitute; and c) cooling the meat substitute to a temperature of from -35 °C to 20 °C; wherein the fatty acids in said lipid comprise less than 2 % by mass of fatty acids having a chain length of C12 or less. The invention also provides a meat substitute, comprising water, native patatin, a denatured protein and a lipid, which lipid is defined as a substance comprising fatty acid tri-esters of glycerol, wherein the fatty acids in said lipid comprise less than 2 % by mass of fatty acids having a chain length of C12 or less, and wherein preferably, the fatty acids comprise less than 2 % by mass of fatty acids having a chain length of C14 or less.
