Abstract

Medicinal plants are essential parts of traditional medicine due to their phytochemical constituents having pharmacological values and therapeutic applications. Black tea have thousands of various biological compounds such as flavonoids (Thearubigins (TRs) and theaflavins (TFs) and catechins), amino acids (L.theanine), vitamins (A, C, K), phenolic acids (caffeic acid (CA), gallic acid (GA), chlorogenic acids (CGA) and cauramic acid), lipids, proteins, volatile compounds carbohydrates, β-carotene and fluoride that illustrated many promising pharmacological effects regarded as growth promoter, cardioprotector, potent cholesterol-lowering effect, antioxidant and antimicrobial, etc inhuman. Although there is an exponential growth in molecular evidence of cholesterol-lowering and antioxidant effect in human, there is still a lack of information of the pharmacological effects of black tea. To fill this information gap, therefore, this review article underscores broadening the new insight pertaining to black tea that could be used as safe food additive. This article also illuminates the interesting role of black tea as an herbal medicine that is the future demand to get rid of synthetic health promoters in the human health practice. Moreover, this information would be useful in terms of the low-cost practice of natural medicines with no residual effects, and a natural protection of the human being. In addition, further studies at a molecular level are needed to reveal its mechanism of action particularly for the hypocholesterolemic effect of black tea to overcome the heart-related diseases, fewer side effects and being a natural safeguard of human health.

Abstract

The uneven temporal and spatial distributions and the unreasonable development and utilization of water resources have caused increasingly severe water resources shortage around the world. Studying on regional water carrying capacity is beneficial for the optimal management of water resources, and can provide assistance for the sustainable utilization of water resources. The typical karst area in China – Guizhou province was applied as the research area in the paper. Meanwhile, twelve indexes were selected from three perspectives including water supply, water demand and social economy to establish the evaluation index system of regional water carrying capacity. Afterwards, the analysis hierarchy process was utilized to construct the evaluation model of regional water resources carrying capacity, so as to evaluate, compare and analyze the regional water carrying capacity in each city of Guizhou province, China. This model verified the feasibility of the evaluation method. Relevant studies can provide certain theory evidence and method support for the investigation on regional water carrying capacity.

76. Q[8]/SC[6]A-based framework constructed viaOSIQ for metal ion capture

Abstract

Since the outer surface interaction of Q[n]s (OSIQ, including self-, anion- and aromatic-induced OSIQs) was proposed in 2014, it has become the most important research area in our group to construct various Q[n]-based supramolecular frameworks viathe OSIQ strategy. Herein, we report a novel supramolecular framework constructed using cucurbit[8]uril (Q[8]) and 4-sulfocalix[6]arene (SC[6]A). This Q[8]/SC[6]A-based supramolecular framework is a product viathe perfect combination of self-, anion- and aromatic-induced OSIQs. This framework has the characteristics of easy preparation and high stability with the most important feature being the sequence selective capture of specific metal cations, such as common alkali- and alkaline earth metal ions, and renewability. Thus, this framework may be used in seawater desalination, potassium ion enrichment, radioactive cesium ion pollution source treatment, Gruinard's treatment or water softening and other applications.

Abstract

Background: Sleep abnormalities occur frequently in critically ill patients. Nurses are strategically placed, specifically in intensive care units, to promote sleep in such patients. Currently, an effective sleep assessment tool in Chinese is not available for intensive care settings. Aim: This study aimed to assess the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the Richards‐Campbell Sleep Questionnaire (RCSQ‐C). It also aimed to evaluate patient‐nurse reliability and agreement of the RCSQ‐C in the intensive care unit (ICU). Methods: We translated the original RCSQ into Chinese and then back‐translated it into English to ensure its accuracy of translation. Internal consistency, discrimination validity and construct validity of the RCSQ‐C were examined in 150 critically ill patients. The convergent validity of the RCSQ‐C was evaluated in 44 of 150 critically ill patients, and data from the RCSQ‐C were compared with those of the Chinese version of St Mary's Hospital Sleep Questionnaire (SMHSQ). Comparisons were also made between RCSQ‐C scores obtained from patients and their nurses. Results: Cronbach's α of the RCSQ‐C was 0.923; thus, it showed high reliability. The corrected item‐total correlation coefficient was in the range of 0·680∼0·805, which showed that the items were homogeneous for evaluating sleep. The content validity was 0·84. One factor was extracted with a cumulative contribution rate of 76·597%. Confirmatory factor analysis showed that the original single‐factor structure proposed by Richards adequately fit the data. The RCSQ‐C could discriminate poor and good sleepers, which supported discriminant validity. There was a close correlation between the scores obtained from the RCSQ patient's version and those from the SMHSQ. The intraclass correlation coefficients of the patient and nurse ranged from 0·315 to 0·609. Conclusions: The psychometric properties of the RCSQ‐C suggest its utility in critically ill patients. Patient‐nurse reliability on the RCSQ‐C was "fair" to "substantial", with nurses tending to overestimate patients' perceived sleep quality. Relevance to Clinical Practice: If the validity of this questionnaire is supported in other ICU samples, RCSQ‐C could be used as a routine evaluation instrument to distinguish good and poor sleepers and then direct nurses to form corresponding treatment plans to promote sleep.
