Selenoprotein W (Selenow) is a ~9 kDa selenoprotein suggested to play a beneficial role in resolving inflammation. However, the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. SELENOW expression in the human GI tract using ScRNAseq Gut Cell Atlas and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases revealed its expression in the small intestine and colonic epithelial, endothelial, mesenchymal, and stem cells and correlated with a protective effect in ulcerative colitis patients. Selenow KO mice treated with 4% dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) showed exacerbated acute colitis, with greater weight loss, shorter colons, and increased fecal occult blood compared to the WT counterparts. Selenow KO mice expressed higher colonic Tnfα, increased Tnfα+ macrophages in the colonic lamina propria, and exhibited loss in epithelial barrier integrity and decreased zonula occludens 1 (Zo-1) expression following DSS treatment. Expression of epithelial cellular adhesion marker (EpCam), yes-associated protein 1 (Yap1), and epidermal growth factor receptor (Egfr) were decreased along with CD24lo cycling epithelial cells in Selenow KO mice. Colonic lysates and organoids confirmed a crosstalk between Egfr and Yap1 that was regulated by Selenow. Overall, our findings suggest Selenow expression is key for efficient resolution of inflammation in experimental colitis that is mediated through the regulation of Egfr and Yap1.

This research presents the optimization and proposal of P- and N-type 3-stacked Si0.8Ge0.2/Si strained super-lattice FinFETs (SL FinFET) using Low-Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition (LPCVD) epitaxy. Three device structures, Si FinFET, Si0.8Ge0.2 FinFET, and Si0.8Ge0.2/Si SL FinFET, were comprehensively compared with HfO2 = 4 nm/TiN = 80 nm. The strained effect was analyzed using Raman spectrum and X-ray diffraction reciprocal space mapping (RSM). The results show that Si0.8Ge0.2/Si SL FinFET exhibited the lowest average subthreshold slope (SSavg) of 88 mV/dec, the highest maximum transconductance (Gm, max) of 375.2 μS/μm, and the highest ON–OFF current ratio (ION/IOFF), approximately 106 at VOV = 0.5 V due to the strained effect. Furthermore, with the super-lattice FinFETs as complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) inverters, a maximum gain of 91 v/v was achieved by varying the supply voltage from 0.6 V to 1.2 V. The simulation of a Si0.8Ge0.2/Si super-lattice FinFET with the state of the art was also investigated. The proposed Si0.8Ge0.2/Si strained SL FinFET is fully compatible with the CMOS technology platform, showing promising flexibility for extending CMOS scaling.

Abstract Background Little was know about the association between the CHA2DS2-VASc score and postoperative outcomes. Our purpose is to evaluate the effects of CHA2DS2-VASc score on the perioperative outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods We identified 47,402 patients with AF over the age of 20 years who underwent noncardiac surgeries between 2008 and 2013 from claims data of the National Health Insurance in Taiwan. The CHA2DS2-VASc score was used to evaluate postoperative complications, mortality and the consumption of medical resources by calculating adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results Compared with patients with a CHA2DS2-VASc score of 0, patients with scores ≥ 5 had an increased risk of postoperative septicemia (OR 2.76, 95% CI 2.00–3.80), intensive care (OR 2.55, 95% CI 2.12–3.06), and mortality (OR 2.04, 95% CI 1.14–3.64). Background and aims The effects of influenza vaccination (IV) on the outcomes of patients with kidney disease (KD) are not completely understood. We aimed to evaluate and compare the outcomes during admission of KD between elderly patients who did or did not receive an IV within the previous 12 months. Methods We used health insurance research data in Taiwan and conducted a population-based cohort study that included 22,590 older people aged ≥ 65 years who were hospitalized for KD in 2008–2013. We performed propensity score matching (case-control ratio 1:1) to select 4386 eligible IV recipients and 4386 nonrecipient controls for comparison. The adjusted odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of IV associated with complications and mortality during KD admission were calculated using multivariable logistic regression analyses. Results During hospitalization for KD, IV was significantly associated with lower risks of 30-day in-hospital mortality (OR 0.56, 95% CI 0.39–0.82), septicemia (OR 0.77, 95% CI 0.68–0.87), and intensive care (OR 0.85, 95% CI 0.75–0.96). Additionally, IV recipients had a shorter length of hospital stay and lower medical expenditure than nonrecipients. Subgroup analyses further showed that the association of IV with reduced adverse events was confined to patients aged ≥ 75 years. Conclusions Previous IV was associated with reduced risks of complications and mortality and in elderly patients hospitalized for KD. We raised the possibility and suggested the need to promote IV for this susceptible population of patients with KD.

Trioza turouguei sp. nov., a new species of jumping plant lice (Hemiptera, Triozidae) from Taiwan, is described and illustrated based on adults and immatures. The latter induce pea-shaped galls on the stems of Cinnamomum osmophloeum Kaneh. (Lauraceae). The gall phenology of the new species is described. A list of species of Triozidae associated with Cinnamomum in the Old World is provided. The following nomenclatorial acts are proposed: Trioza inflata Li, 1992 = Trioza xiangicamphorae Li, 1992, syn. nov.; Siphonaleyrodes formosanus Takahashi, 1932, stat. rev., is removed from synonymy with Trioza cinnamomi (Boselli, 1931).

Anomoneura taiwanica sp. nov. (Hemiptera, Psylloidea, Psyllidae, Psyllinae) is described based on samples from Taiwan that were previously misidentified as A. mori Schwarz, 1896. Morphological and genetic differences between the two species, as well as their distribution, are detailed and discussed. Comments on the pest status of Anomoneura spp. in East Asia are also provided.

This study investigated the variances in soil microbial community (SMC) structure and metabolic potentials in subtropical mountain forest ecosystem. Soil samples (0–10, 10–30 and 30–60 cm) were collected within 27 plots (20×20 m2) that were randomly assigned. Changes in SMC structure were mainly regulated by soil physicochemical property and tree diversity in 0–10 cm depth, by total nitrogen (TN) and clay in 10–30 cm depth, and by soil organic carbon (SOC) and pH in 30–60 cm depth. Metabolic potential variance was mainly driven by soil chemical property in 0–10 cm depth, by SOC and TN in 10–30 cm depth, and by TN in 30–60 cm depth. Collectively, soil physicochemical properties were the primary factors influencing SMC structure and its metabolic potentials along the soil profile, but the expected effects of tree diversity and topography were not evident.

Abstract Background The impact of liver cirrhosis on the outcomes of admission to intensive care unit (ICU) is not completely understood. Our purpose is to identify risk factors for mortality in ICU patients with liver cirrhosis. Methods Using reimbursement claims from Taiwan’s National Health Insurance Research Database from in 2006–2012, 1,250,300 patients were identified as having ICU stays of more than 1 day, and 37,197 of these had liver cirrhosis. With propensity score-matching for socioeconomic status, pre-existing medical conditions, and cirrhosis-related morbidities, 37,197 ICU patients without liver cirrhosis were selected for comparison. Adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of cirrhosis associated with 30-day, ICU, and one-year mortality were calculated. Results Compared with control, cirrhotic patients had higher 30-day mortality (aOR 1.60, 95% CI 1.53 to 1.68), particularly those with jaundice (aOR 2.23, 95% CI 2.03 to 2.45), ascites (aOR 2.32, 95% CI 2.19 to 2.46) or hepatic coma (aOR 2.21, 95% CI 2.07 to 2.36). Among ICU patients, liver cirrhosis was also associated with ICU mortality (aOR 144, 95% CI 1.38 to 1.51) and one-year mortality (aOR 1.40, 95% CI 1.35 to 1.46). Associations between cirrhosis of liver and increased 30-day mortality were significant in both sexes and every age group. Conclusions Liver cirrhosis was associated with 30-day mortality in ICU patients. Jaundice, ascites, hepatic coma, more than 4 admissions due to cirrhosis, and more than 30 days of hospital stay due to cirrhosis were exacerbated factors in cirrhotic ICU patients.

Abstract Arctic terrestrial ecosystems are very sensitive to the global climate change due to the large storage of soil organic carbon and the presence of snow, glacier, and permafrost, which respond directly to near surface air temperature that has warmed in the Arctic by almost twice as much as the global average. These ecosystems play a significant role in affecting regional and global carbon cycling, which have been traditionally quantified using biogeochemical models that have not explicitly considered the loss of carbon due to lateral flow of water from land to aquatic ecosystems. Building upon an extant spatially distributed hydrological model and a process‐based biogeochemical model, we have developed a three‐dimensional terrestrial ecosystem model to elucidate how lateral water flow has impacted the regional dissolved organic carbon (DOC) dynamics in the Tanana Flats Basin in central Alaska. The model explicitly simulates the production, consumption, and transport of DOC. Both in situ observational data and remote sensing‐based products were used to calibrate and validate the model. Our simulations show that (1) plant litter DOC leaching exerts significant controls on soil DOC concentration during precipitation and snowmelt events, (2) lateral transport plays an important role in affecting regional DOC dynamics, and (3) DOC export to the Tanana River is approximately 9.6 × 106 kg C year−1. This study provides a modeling framework to adequately quantify the Arctic land ecosystem carbon budget by considering the lateral transport of carbon affected by permafrost degradation. The quantification of the lateral carbon fluxes will also improve future carbon cycle modeling for Arctic aquatic ecosystems.

Abstract Observation of resonance modes is the most straightforward way of studying mechanical oscillations because these modes have maximum response to stimuli. However, a deeper understanding of mechanical motion can be obtained by also looking at modal responses at frequencies in between resonances. Here, an imaging of the modal responses for a nanomechanical drum driven off resonance is presented. By using the frequency modal analysis, these shapes are described as a superposition of resonance modes. It is found that the spatial distribution of the oscillating component of the driving force, which is affected by both the shape of the actuating electrode and inherent device properties such as asymmetry and initial slack, greatly influences the modal weight or participation. This modal superposition analysis elucidates the dynamics of any nanomechanical system through modal weights. This aids in optimizing mode‐specific designs for force sensing and integration with other systems.

In this study, we explored the potential of applying biosensors based on silicon nanowire field-effect transistors (bio–NWFETs) as molecular absorption sensors. Using quercetin and Copper (Cu2+) ion as an example, we demonstrated the use of an opto–FET approach for the detection of molecular interactions. We found that photons with wavelengths of 450 nm were absorbed by the molecular complex, with the absorbance level depending on the Cu2+ concentration. Quantitative detection of the molecular absorption of metal complexes was performed for Cu2+ concentrations ranging between 0.1 μM and 100 μM, in which the photon response increased linearly with the copper concentration under optimized bias parameters. Our opto–FET approach showed an improved absorbance compared with that of a commercial ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry.

Nanomechanical resonators made from van der Waals materials (vdW NMRs) provide a new tool for sensing absorbed laser power. The photothermal response of vdW NMRs, quantified from the resonant frequency shifts induced by optical absorption, is enhanced when incorporated in a Fabry–Pérot (FP) interferometer. Along with the enhancement comes the dependence of the photothermal response on NMR displacement, which lacks investigation. Here, we address the knowledge gap by studying electromotively driven niobium diselenide drumheads fabricated on highly reflective substrates. We use a FP-mediated absorptive heating model to explain the measured variations of the photothermal response. The model predicts a higher magnitude and tuning range of photothermal responses on few-layer and monolayer NbSe2 drumheads, which outperform other clamped vdW drum-type NMRs at a laser wavelength of 532 nm. Further analysis of the model shows that both the magnitude and tuning range of NbSe2 drumheads scale with thickness, establishing a displacement-based framework for building bolometers using FP-mediated vdW NMRs.

The research was based on the image recognition technology of artificial intelligence, which is expected to assist physicians in making correct decisions through deep learning. The liver dataset used in this study was derived from the open source website (LiTS) and the data provided by the Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. CT images were used for organ recognition and lesion segmentation; the proposed Residual-Dense-Attention (RDA) U-Net can achieve high accuracy without the use of contrast. In this study, U-Net neural network was used to combine ResBlock in ResNet with Dense Block in DenseNet in the coder part, allowing the training to maintain the parameters while reducing the overall recognition computation time. The decoder was equipped with Attention Gates to suppress the irrelevant areas of the image while focusing on the significant features. The RDA model was used to identify and segment liver organs and lesions from CT images of the abdominal cavity, and excellent segmentation was achieved for the liver located on the left side, right side, near the heart, and near the lower abdomen with other organs. Better recognition was also achieved for large, small, and single and multiple lesions. The study was able to reduce the overall computation time by about 28% compared to other convolutions, and the accuracy of liver and lesion segmentation reached 96% and 94.8%, with IoU values of 89.5% and 87%, and AVGDIST of 0.28 and 0.80, respectively.

Development of intelligent ships requires marine diesel engine simulation models of high accuracy and fast response. In addition, with advent of tighter shipping air emissions regulations, such models are required to have emission prediction capabilities. In this article, such a model was developed and validated for a 30,000-ton bulk carrier main engine using MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation is based on mean value model, which predicts both the steady-state and dynamic performance of the engine. The results show that the steady-state performance parameters of the main engine are predicted within 2.2% error, and the exhaust emissions parameters are predicted within 7% error as compared to the bench test data from the engine manufacturer. The Maximum Continuous Rating (MCR) points at 100%, 75%, 50% and 25% of the E3 duty cycle were investigated with emphasis according to the diesel propulsion characteristics. In dynamic simulation, it is found that the compressor pressure fluctuation is greater than that of the exhaust pressure with the load variation. Furthermore, the compressor and the exhaust pipe have a similar temperature drop value (about 60 K) when the engine load changes from 100% to 50% MCR, and the exhaust pipe temperature fluctuation is more significant when the load varies from 50% to 25% MCR. The above results show the model’s good transient capability in simulating the dynamic characteristics of the engine. This model can be used especially for the development and control of marine diesel engines in intelligent ships as well as training-oriented marine engine and ship simulators.

Microvascular invasion (MVI) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a histopathological marker and risk factor for HCC recurrence. We integrated diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and magnetic resonance (MR) image findings of tumors into a scoring system for predicting MVI. In total, 228 HCC patients with pathologically confirmed MVI who underwent surgical resection or liver transplant between November 2012 and March 2021 were enrolled retrospectively. Patients were divided into a right liver lobe group (n = 173, 75.9%) as the model dataset and a left liver lobe group (n = 55, 24.1%) as the model validation dataset. Multivariate logistic regression identified two-segment involved tumor (Score: 1; OR: 3.14; 95% CI: 1.22 to 8.06; p = 0.017); ADCmin ≤ 0.95 × 10−3 mm2/s (Score: 2; OR: 10.88; 95% CI: 4.61 to 25.68; p = 0.000); and largest single tumor diameter ≥ 3 cm (Score: 1; OR: 5.05; 95% CI: 2.25 to 11.30; p = 0.000), as predictive factors for the scoring model. Among all patients, sensitivity was 89.66%, specificity 58.04%, positive predictive value 68.87%, and negative predictive value 84.41%. For validation of left lobe group, sensitivity was 80.64%, specificity 70.83%, positive predictive value 78.12%, and negative predictive value 73.91%. The scoring model using ADCmin, largest tumor diameter, and two-segment involved tumor provides high sensitivity and negative predictive value in MVI prediction for use in routine functional MR.

Background. The optimal dose and concentration of analgesic efficacy of ropivacaine (RPV) and bupivacaine (BPV) for postoperative pain relief in paediatric abdominal surgery patients is still unclear. Therefore, this meta-analysis compared the efficacy of these analgesics, their administered modes (ultrasound-guided RSB versus LAI) for postoperative pain relief, and side effects. Methods. Three databases, PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, were exhaustively searched with predefined keywords. Eight randomized clinical trials and retrospective studies were selected. Analgesic effect, postoperative pain score, level of side effect, applied dose, and concentration of drug were analysed. Results. Drug dose ranged from 0.5–2.5 mL/kg of 0.2 to 0.5% concentrations. Male participant for RSB and LAI treatment groups varied from 40–62% and 25–83%, respectively. Mean age of RSB and LAI groups ranged from 3.8–11.65 years and 4.3–11.27 years, respectively. Our meta-analysis revealed that RSB could reduce total opioid use postoperatively (WMD = −0.02, 95% CI: −0.02, −0.02), with I2 value of 15%. We found that the RPV (0.25%, 2.5 ml/kg) was optimal in suppressing the pain. Its lower concentration (0.2%) was ineffective, whereas higher one (0.375%) seems to increase risk of systemic toxicity. Similarly, BPV (0.25%, 2.5 mg/kg) efficaciously reduced the pain score, while its lower concentration was ineffective. This study aimed to investigate the perceived threat, mental health outcomes, behavior changes, and associated predictors among psoriasis patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 has been known to increase the health risks of patients with psoriasis owing to patients’ immune dysregulation, comorbidities, and immunosuppressive drug use. A total of 423 psoriasis patients not infected with COVID-19 was recruited from the Department of Dermatology, National Taiwan University Hospital Hsin-Chu Branch, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, and China Medical University Hospital from May 2020 to July 2020. A self-administered questionnaire was used to evaluate the perceived threat, mental health, and psychological impact on psoriasis patients using the Perceived COVID-19-Related Risk Scale score for Psoriasis (PCRSP), depression, anxiety, insomnia, and stress-associated symptoms (DAISS) scales, and Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R), respectively. Over 94% of 423 patients with psoriasis perceived threat to be ≥ 1 due to COVID-19; 18% of the patients experienced psychological symptoms more frequently ≥ 1, and 22% perceived psychological impact during the pandemic to be ≥ 1. Multivariable linear regression showed that the higher psoriasis severity and comorbidities were significantly associated with higher PCRSP, DAISS, and IES-R scores. The requirement for a prolonged prescription and canceling or deferring clinic visits for psoriasis treatment among patients are the two most common healthcare-seeking behavior changes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Psoriasis patients who perceived a higher COVID-19 threat were more likely to require a prolonged prescription and have their clinic visits canceled or deferred. Surveillance of the psychological consequences in psoriasis patients due to COVID-19 must be implemented to avoid psychological consequences and inappropriate treatment delays or withdrawal.

Taiwan's experience with transitional justice over the past three decades suggests that dealing with historical injustice is a dynamic and fluid process that is fundamentally shaped and constrained by the balance of power and socio-political reality in a particular transitional society. This Article provides a contextualized legal-political analysis of the evolution of Taiwan's transitional justice regime, with special attention to its limits and challenges. Since Taiwan's democratization began, the transitional justice project developed by the former authoritarian Chinese Nationalist Party (Kuomintang, KMT) has been rather disproportionateli focused on restorative over retributive mechanisms, with the main emphasis placed on reparations and apology and little consideration of truth recovery and individual accountability. But since the Democratic Progressive Party began to control the government and legislature in 2016, its new transitional justice initiatives have introduced significant changes, including, among others, investigating the KMT's 'illicit party assets' and removing authoritarian symbols such as Chiang Kai-shek's statues, eliciting various contentions and contestations along the way. In our view, Taiwan is now confronted with profound challenges in developing a holistic, thoughtful transitional justice regime: fierce partisan politics that could interrupt progress at am time, conflation of transitional justice and identity politics, pending legal complications and a general distrust of the judiciary, and limited public engagement in transitional justice issues. Whether Taiwan can continue to thrive depends on how it grapples with these challenges in pursuit of justice and reconciliation that will strengthen and sustain tomorrow's democratic Taiwan., I. Introduction Limited information was available regarding the perioperative outcomes in patients with and without use of metformin. This study aims to evaluate the complications and mortality after major surgery in patients with diabetes who use metformin.Research design and methods Using a real-world database of Taiwan’s National Health Insurance from 2008 to 2013, we conducted a matched cohort study of 91 356 patients with diabetes aged >20 years who used metformin and later underwent major surgery. Using a propensity score-matching technique adjusted for sociodemographic characteristics, medical condition, surgery type, and anesthesia type, 91 356 controls who underwent surgery but did not use metformin were selected. Logistic regression was used to calculate the ORs with 95% CIs for postoperative complications and 30-day mortality associated with metformin use.Results Patients who used metformin had a lower risk of postoperative septicemia (OR 0.94, 95% CI 0.90 to 0.98), acute renal failure (OR 0.87, 95% CI 0.79 to 0.96), and 30-day mortality (OR 0.79, 95% CI 0.71 to 0.88) compared with patients who did not use metformin, in both sexes and in every age group. We carried out a detailed study to investigate the existence of an insulating parent phase for FeSe superconductors. The insulating Fe4Se5 with √5 × √5 Fe-vacancy order shows a 3D-Mott variable-range-hopping behavior with a Verwey-like electronic correlation at around 45 K. The application of the RTA process at 450°C results in the destruction of Fe-vacancy order and induces more electron carriers by increasing the Fe3+ valence state. Superconductivity emerges with Tc ∼ 8 K without changing the chemical stoichiometry of the sample after the RTA process, resulting in the addition of extra carriers in favor of superconductivity.

Patients who previously suffered a stroke have increased risks of mortality and complications after surgeries, but the optimal anesthesia method is not fully understood. We aimed to compare the outcomes after surgeries for stroke patients who received general anesthesia (GA) and neuraxial anesthesia (NA). Using health insurance research data, we identified 36,149 stroke patients who underwent surgeries from 1 January 2008 to 31 December 2013. For balancing baseline covariates, the propensity-score-matching procedure was used to select adequate surgical patients who received GA and NA at a case–control ratio of 1:1. Multiple logistic regressions were applied to calculate adjusted odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for postoperative mortality and complications between surgical patients with prior stroke who received GA and NA. Among the 4903 matched pairs with prior stroke, patients with GA had higher risks of pneumonia (OR 2.00, 95% CI 1.62–2.46), pulmonary embolism (OR 3.30, 95% CI 1.07–10.2), acute renal failure (OR 3.51, 95% CI 1.13–2.10), intensive care unit stay (OR 3.74, 95% CI 3.17–4.41), and in-hospital mortality (OR 2.02, 95% CI 1.16–3.51) than those who received NA. Postoperative adverse events were associated with GA in patients aged more than 60 years and those who received digestive surgery (OR 3.11, 95% CI 2.08–4.66). We found that stroke patients undergoing GA had increased postoperative complications and mortality after surgery compared with those who received NA. However, these findings need more validation and evaluation by clinical trials.

Gastroenteritis promotes the development of systemic inflammation and a hypercoagulable state. There are limited data regarding the association between gastroenteritis and acute myocardial infarction (AMI). We aimed to evaluate the risk of AMI after an episode of gastroenteritis. In this nested case-control study, we selected patients who were hospitalized for AMI (N = 103,584) as a case group during 2010–2017 and performed propensity score matching (case-control ratio 1:1) to select eligible controls from insurance research data in Taiwan. We applied multivariable logistic regressions to calculate adjusted odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the risk of AMI associated with recent gastroenteritis within 14 days before AMI. We also compared the outcomes after AMI in patients with or without gastroenteritis. A total of 1381 patients (1.3%) with AMI had a prior episode of gastroenteritis compared to 829 (0.8%) among the controls. Gastroenteritis was significantly associated with a subsequent risk of AMI (adjusted OR: 1.68, 95% CI: 1.54–1.83), which was augmented in hospitalizations for gastroenteritis (adjusted OR: 2.50, 95% CI: 1.20–5.21). The outcomes after AMI were worse in patients with gastroenteritis than in those without gastroenteritis, including increased 30-day in-hospital mortality (adjusted OR: 1.28, 95% CI: 1.08–1.52), medical expenditure, and length of hospital stay. Gastroenteritis may act as a trigger for AMI and correlates with worse post-AMI outcomes. Strategies of aggressive hydration and/or increased antithrombotic therapies for this susceptible population should be further developed.

Background: Since the advent of a new generation of inflow-sensitive inversion recovery (IFIR) technology, three-dimensional non-contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography is being used to obtain hepatic vessel images without applying gadolinium contrast agent. The purpose of this study was to explore the diagnostic efficacy of non-contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (non-CE MRA), contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (CMRA), and computed tomography angiography (CTA) in the preoperative evaluation of living liver donors. Methods: A total of 43 liver donor candidates who were evaluated for living donor liver transplantation completed examinations. Donors’ age, gender, renal function (eGFR), and previous CTA and imaging were recorded before non-CE MRA and CMRA. CTA images were used as the standard. Results: Five different classifications of hepatic artery patterns (types I, III, V, VI, VIII) and three different classifications of portal vein patterns (types I, II, and III) were identified among 43 candidates. The pretransplant vascular anatomy was well identified using combined non-CE MRA and CMRA of hepatic arteries (100%), PVs (98%), and hepatic veins (100%) compared with CTA images. Non-CE MRA images had significantly stronger contrast signal intensity of portal veins (p < 0.01) and hepatic veins (p < 0.01) than CMRA. No differences were found in signal intensity of the hepatic artery between non-CE MRA and CMRA. Conclusion: Combined non-CE MRA and CMRA demonstrate comparable diagnostic ability to CTA and provide enhanced biliary anatomy information that assures optimum donor safety.

Performance improvement on Ge nFinFET, pFinFET and CMOS inverter can be achieved by using a novel low temperature damage-free supercritical phase fluid (SCF) treatment. Thanks to effective reduction of unstable oxidation states, oxygen vacancies and interface traps, higher on-off current ratios (${8}\times {10}^{{5}}$ for pFinFET and ${3.3}\times {10}^{{5}}$ for nFinFET), lower S.S. (72 mV/dec), higher on current (>45% improvement) and better reliability in Ge FinFETs are achieved with a SCF treatment as compared with a remote plasma post-oxidation (PPO) one. Besides, a higher voltage gain (88 V/V) of Ge FinFET CMOS inverter is obtained with a SCF treatment in comparison with a remote PPO one. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
