The Daya Bay Experiment consists of eight identically designed detectors located in three underground experimental halls named as EH1, EH2, EH3, with 250, 265 and 860 meters of water equivalent vertical overburden, respectively. Cosmic muon events have been recorded over a two-year period. The underground muon rate is observed to be positively correlated with the effective atmospheric temperature and to follow a seasonal modulation pattern. The correlation coefficient α, describing how a variation in the muon rate relates to a variation in the effective atmospheric temperature, is found to be αEH1 = 0.362±0.031, αEH2 = 0.433±0.038 and αEH3 = 0.641±0.057 for each experimental hall.

The disappearance of reactor $\bar{\nu}_e$ observed by the Daya Bayexperiment is examined in the framework of a model in which the neutrino isdescribed by a wave packet with a relative intrinsic momentum dispersion$\sigma_\text{rel}$. Three pairs of nuclear reactors and eight antineutrinodetectors, each with good energy resolution, distributed among threeexperimental halls, supply a high-statistics sample of $\bar{\nu}_e$ acquiredat nine different baselines. This provides a unique platform to test theeffects which arise from the wave packet treatment of neutrino oscillation. Themodified survival probability formula was used to fit Daya Bay data, providingthe first experimental limits: $2.38 \cdot 10^{-17} < \sigma_{\rm rel} < 0.23$.Treating the dimensions of the reactor cores and detectors as constraints, thelimits are improved: $10^{-14} \lesssim \sigma_{\rm rel} < 0.23$, and an upperlimit of $\sigma_{\rm rel}

The Daya Bay experiment has observed correlations between reactor core fuel evolution and changes in the reactor antineutrino flux and energy spectrum. Four antineutrino detectors in two experimental halls were used to identify 2.2 million inverse beta decays (IBDs) over 1230 days spanning multiple fuel cycles for each of six 2.9 GW_{th} reactor cores at the Daya Bay and Ling Ao nuclear power plants. Using detector data spanning effective ^{239}Pu fission fractions F_{239} from 0.25 to 0.35, Daya Bay measures an average IBD yield σ[over ¯]_{f} of (5.90±0.13)×10^{-43}  cm^{2}/fission and a fuel-dependent variation in the IBD yield, dσ_{f}/dF_{239}, of (-1.86±0.18)×10^{-43}  cm^{2}/fission. This observation rejects the hypothesis of a constant antineutrino flux as a function of the ^{239}Pu fission fraction at 10 standard deviations. The variation in IBD yield is found to be energy dependent, rejecting the hypothesis of a constant antineutrino energy spectrum at 5.1 standard deviations. While measurements of the evolution in the IBD spectrum show general agreement with predictions from recent reactor models, the measured evolution in total IBD yield disagrees with recent predictions at 3.1σ. This discrepancy indicates that an overall deficit in the measured flux with respect to predictions does not result from equal fractional deficits from the primary fission isotopes ^{235}U, ^{239}Pu, ^{238}U, and ^{241}Pu. Based on measured IBD yield variations, yields of (6.17±0.17) and (4.27±0.26)×10^{-43}  cm^{2}/fission have been determined for the two dominant fission parent isotopes ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu. A 7.8% discrepancy between the observed and predicted ^{235}U yields suggests that this isotope may be the primary contributor to the reactor antineutrino anomaly.

A measurement of electron antineutrino oscillation by the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment is described in detail. Six 2.9-GWth nuclear power reactors of the Daya Bay and Ling Ao nuclear power facilities served as intense sources of νe's. Comparison of the νe rate and energy spectrum measured by antineutrino detectors far from the nuclear reactors (∼1500-1950 m) relative to detectors near the reactors (∼350-600 m) allowed a precise measurement of νe disappearance. More than 2.5 million νe inverse beta-decay interactions were observed, based on the combination of 217 days of operation of six antineutrino detectors (December, 2011-July, 2012) with a subsequent 1013 days using the complete configuration of eight detectors (October, 2012-July, 2015). The νe rate observed at the far detectors relative to the near detectors showed a significant deficit, R=0.949±0.002(stat)±0.002(syst). The energy dependence of νe disappearance showed the distinct variation predicted by neutrino oscillation. Analysis using an approximation for the three-flavor oscillation probability yielded the flavor-mixing angle sin22θ13=0.0841±0.0027(stat)±0.0019(syst) and the effective neutrino mass-squared difference of |Δmee2|=(2.50±0.06(stat)±0.06(syst))×10-3 eV2. Analysis using the exact three-flavor probability found Δm322=(2.45±0.06(stat)±0.06(syst))×10-3 eV2 assuming the normal neutrino mass hierarchy and Δm322=(-2.56±0.06(stat)±0.06(syst))×10-3 eV2 for the inverted hierarchy.

This study investigated the performance of unreinforced and geogrid-encased cement-stabilized dredged slurry columns by uniaxial compression tests to simulate the extreme case where the surrounding soil offers no confinement. The objective was to understand the strength characteristics and visualize the deformation damage patterns of the columns with respect to the water content, cement content, length-to-diameter ratio, and geogrid strength. The results show that the unreinforced specimens exhibited strain-softening behavior, whereas geogrid encasement induced strain-hardening, with high-strength geogrids showing superior strain-hardening capacity. Notably, regardless of geogrid strength, encasement enhanced the resistance to deformation and ductility of the columns. Increasing the cement content, reducing the water content, and decreasing the length-to-diameter ratio all contributed to higher peak strength in both unreinforced and geogrid-encased specimens. Geogrid encasement provides confinement that enhances peak strength. The influence of geogrid encasement on peak strength becomes more pronounced at lower cement contents, higher water contents, and higher length-to-diameter ratios. Geogrid encasement also affects failure modes, altering the predominant inclined shear failure observed at the top of unreinforced specimens. Specimens encased with geogrids of higher tensile strength exhibit enhanced integrity and deformation resembling compression strut buckling, with a symmetrically inclined failure trend at the top and bottom. Hot electrons generated by the two-plasmon-decay (TPD) instability in laser-direct-drive implosions preheat the fuel and degrade performance. The mitigation of preheat using silicon-doped ablators (i.e., preheat is reduced by a factor of 1.40 ± 0.04) while decreasing the ratio of the laser spot diameter to the target diameter ( R b / R t ) to mitigate cross-beam energy transfer has been demonstrated on the OMEGA laser for quarter-critical laser intensities of 4.1 × 10 14 W / c m 2 , equivalent to an incident laser intensity of 8.3 × 10 14 W / c m 2 . The silicon dopant increases the electron temperature of the ablation plasma, which raises the intensity threshold for the onset of the TPD instability. These results show that implosion designs utilizing higher drive intensities can be used to achieve higher shell velocities, which are currently inaccessible with plastic ablators due to excessive preheat. The ongoing improvement in laser technology and target fabrication is opening new possibilities for diagnostic development. An example is x-ray phase-contrast imaging (XPCI), which serves as an advanced x-ray imaging diagnostic in laser-driven experiments. In this work, we present the results of the XPCI platform that was developed at the OMEGA EP Laser-Facility to study multi-Mbar single and double shocks produced using a kilojoule laser driver. Two-dimensional radiation-hydrodynamic simulations agree well with the shock progression and the spherical curvature of the shock fronts. It is demonstrated that XPCI is an excellent method to determine with high accuracy the front position of a trailing shock wave propagating through an expanding CH plasma that was heated by a precursor Mbar shock wave. The interaction between the rarefaction wave and the shock wave results in a clear signature in the radiograph that is well reproduced by radiation-hydrodynamic simulations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A new measurement of the reactor antineutrino flux and energy spectrum by the Daya Bay reactor neutrino experiment is reported. The antineutrinos were generated by six 2.9 GWth nuclear reactors and detected by eight antineutrino detectors deployed in two near (560 m and 600 m flux-weighted baselines) and one far (1640 m flux-weighted baseline) underground experimental halls. With 621 days of data, more than 1.2 million inverse beta decay (IBD) candidates were detected. The IBD yield in the eight detectors was measured, and the ratio of measured to predicted flux was found to be 0.946±0.020 (0.992±0.021) for the Huber+Mueller (ILL+Vogel) model. A 2.9σ deviation was found in the measured IBD positron energy spectrum compared to the predictions. In particular, an excess of events in the region of 4-6 MeV was found in the measured spectrum, with a local significance of 4.4σ. A reactor antineutrino spectrum weighted by the IBD cross section is extracted for model-independent predictions.

This Letter reports an improved search for light sterile neutrino mixing in the electron antineutrino disappearance channel with the full configuration of the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment. With an additional 404 days of data collected in eight antineutrino detectors, this search benefits from 3.6 times the statistics available to the previous publication, as well as from improvements in energy calibration and background reduction. A relative comparison of the rate and energy spectrum of reactor antineutrinos in the three experimental halls yields no evidence of sterile neutrino mixing in the 2×10^{-4}≲|Δm_{41}^{2}|≲0.3  eV^{2} mass range. The resulting limits on sin^{2}2θ_{14} are improved by approx imately a factor of 2 over previous results and constitute the most stringent constraints to date in the |Δm_{41}^{2}|≲0.2  eV^{2} region.

Searches for a light sterile neutrino have been performed independently by the MINOS and the Daya Bay experiments using the muon (anti)neutrino and electron antineutrino disappearance channels, respectively. In this Letter, results from both experiments are combined with those from the Bugey-3 reactor neutrino experiment to constrain oscillations into light sterile neutrinos. The three experiments are sensitive to complementary regions of parameter space, enabling the combined analysis to probe regions allowed by the Liquid Scintillator Neutrino Detector (LSND) and MiniBooNE experiments in a minimally extended four-neutrino flavor framework. Stringent limits on sin^{2}2θ_{μe} are set over 6 orders of magnitude in the sterile mass-squared splitting Δm_{41}^{2}. The sterile-neutrino mixing phase space allowed by the LSND and MiniBooNE experiments is excluded for Δm_{41}^{2}

This article reports an improved independent measurement of neutrino mixing angle θ13 at the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment. Electron antineutrinos were identified by inverse β-decays with the emitted neutron captured by hydrogen, yielding a data set with principally distinct uncertainties from that with neutrons captured by gadolinium. With the final two of eight antineutrino detectors installed, this study used 621 days of data including the previously reported 217-day data set with six detectors. The dominant statistical uncertainty was reduced by 49%. Intensive studies of the cosmogenic muon-induced Li9 and fast neutron backgrounds and the neutron-capture energy selection efficiency, resulted in a reduction of the systematic uncertainty by 26%. The deficit in the detected number of antineutrinos at the far detectors relative to the expected number based on the near detectors yielded sin22θ13=0.071±0.011 in the three-neutrino-oscillation framework. The combination of this result with the gadolinium-capture result is also reported.

All patients were treated between January 2012 and December 2014 at a single center. Study outcomes were disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS).Results: In total, 81 patients were included in this study. By propensity-score matching, 35 patients were included in each group (arm A and arm B). Median follow-up was 60 months in arm A and 66 months in arm B. Overall, 85.7% of patients in arm A and 71.4% of those in arm B received adjuvant radiotherapy. DFS and OS curves were similar between arms A and B (P=0.971 and 0.633, respectively). With IPTW, arm A was not associated with prognosis in terms of DFS (HR 0.946, 95% CI 0.237– 3.784; P=0.938) or OS (HR 1.020, 95%CI 0.357– 2.913; P=0.970).Conclusion: For patients with elevated pretreatment SCC-Ag, adjuvant chemotherapy was not found to improve prognosis. Also, a considerable proportion of these patients had postoperative indications for adjuvant radiotherapy. For these cervical cancer patients with elevated pretreatment SCC-Ag, the choice of radical hysterectomy and adjuvant chemotherapy should be prudent.Keywords: adjuvant chemotherapy, cervical cancer, oncologic outcomes, serum squamous-cell carcinoma antigen

The Daya Bay experiment was the first to report simultaneous measurements of reactor antineutrinos at multiple baselines leading to the discovery of ν¯e oscillations over km-baselines. Subsequent data has provided the world's most precise measurement of sin22θ13 and the effective mass splitting Δmee2. The experiment is located in Daya Bay, China where the cluster of six nuclear reactors is among the world's most prolific sources of electron antineutrinos. Multiple antineutrino detectors are deployed in three underground water pools at different distances from the reactor cores to search for deviations in the antineutrino rate and energy spectrum due to neutrino mixing. Instrumented with photomultiplier tubes, the water pools serve as shielding against natural radioactivity from the surrounding rock and provide efficient muon tagging. Arrays of resistive plate chambers over the top of each pool provide additional muon detection. The antineutrino detectors were specifically designed for measurements of the antineutrino flux with minimal systematic uncertainty. Relative detector efficiencies between the near and far detectors are known to better than 0.2%. With the unblinding of the final two detectors' baselines and target masses, a complete description and comparison of the eight antineutrino detectors can now be presented. This paper describes the Daya Bay detector systems, consisting of eight antineutrino detectors in three instrumented water pools in three underground halls, and their operation through the first year of eight detector data-taking.

This Letter reports a measurement of the flux and energy spectrum of electron antineutrinos from six 2.9 GWth nuclear reactors with six detectors deployed in two near (effective baselines 512 and 561 m) and one far (1579 m) underground experimental halls in the Daya Bay experiment. Using 217 days of data, 296 721 and 41 589 inverse β decay (IBD) candidates were detected in the near and far halls, respectively. The measured IBD yield is (1.55±0.04) ×10(-18)  cm(2) GW(-1) day(-1) or (5.92±0.14) ×10(-43)  cm(2) fission(-1). This flux measurement is consistent with previous short-baseline reactor antineutrino experiments and is 0.946±0.022 (0.991±0.023) relative to the flux predicted with the Huber-Mueller (ILL-Vogel) fissile antineutrino model. The measured IBD positron energy spectrum deviates from both spectral predictions by more than 2σ over the full energy range with a local significance of up to ∼4σ between 4-6 MeV. A reactor antineutrino spectrum of IBD reactions is extracted from the measured positron energy spectrum for model-independent predictions.

The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) is proposed to determinethe neutrino mass hierarchy using an underground liquid scintillator detector.It is located 53 km away from both Yangjiang and Taishan Nuclear Power Plantsin Guangdong, China. The experimental hall, spanning more than 50 meters, isunder a granite mountain of over 700 m overburden. Within six years of running,the detection of reactor antineutrinos can resolve the neutrino mass hierarchyat a confidence level of 3-4$\sigma$, and determine neutrino oscillationparameters $\sin^2\theta_{12}$, $\Delta m^2_{21}$, and $|\Delta m^2_{ee}|$ toan accuracy of better than 1%. The JUNO detector can be also used to studyterrestrial and extra-terrestrial neutrinos and new physics beyond the StandardModel. The central detector contains 20,000 tons liquid scintillator with anacrylic sphere of 35 m in diameter. $\sim$17,000 508-mm diameter PMTs with highquantum efficiency provide $\sim$75% optical coverage. The current choice ofthe liquid scintillator is: linear alkyl benzene (LAB) as the solvent, plus PPOas the scintillation fluor and a wavelength-shifter (Bis-MSB). The number ofdetected photoelectrons per MeV is larger than 1,100 and the energy resolutionis expected to be 3% at 1 MeV. The calibration system is designed to deploymultiple sources to cover the entire energy range of reactor antineutrinos, andto achieve a full-volume position coverage inside the detector. The veto systemis used for muon detection, muon induced background study and reduction. Itconsists of a Water Cherenkov detector and a Top Tracker system. The readoutsystem, the detector control system and the offline system insure efficient andstable data acquisition and processing.

Aluminum nitride (AlN) films have been deposited on AlGaN/GaN heterostructure substrates by plasma enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD). Different annealing treatments were adopted to change film structure and improve performance. Chemical composition, crystallinity, and electrical properties were studied for AlN films. The results show that some crystal grains appear in the films after annealing at a temperature of over 800 °C. The film crystalline quality increases as the annealing temperature rises. The N-O-Al bond decomposes during the high temperature annealing in N2, and some new N-Al bonds are formed in the AlN films. Annealing promotes the elemental interdiffusion between the films and the substrates. High-temperature annealing at 1000 °C in a nitrogen atmosphere can effectively promote complete nitridation of the AlN film, reduce the nitrogen vacancies, and cause the AlN film to form a semiconductor-like structure.

The objectives were to investigate the risk factors for prognosis in patients with OC and associated CI.Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the electronic medical records of patients with OC from January 2013 to November 2018 in Peking Union Medical Hospital.Results: In total, 2632 inpatients were diagnosed with malignant ovarian cancer in our institution, and 30 patients (1.1%) were diagnosed with OC-associated CI. The median age was 60 years (range, 37– 83). The standard treatment, according to National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines, was administered to 19 patients. The median follow-up time was 19.5 months (range, 1– 59 months). In total, 17 patients experienced tumor progression, and 16 of them died. In univariate analysis, overall survival was significantly associated with the D-dimer level (P=0.017), FIGO stage (P=0.014), complete cytoreduction (P< 0.000) and standard treatment (P< 0.000). In multivariate analysis, the standard treatment remained an independent protective factor for death (hazard ratio=0.061, 95% confidence interval=0.007– 0.537, P=0.012).Conclusion: Although the prognosis of patients with OC and associated CI was poor, those who underwent the standard treatment still benefited.Keywords: cerebral infarction, surgery, ovarian neoplasms, prognosis

Ferroelectric HfO2 has attracted much attention owing to its superior ferroelectricity at an ultra-thin thickness and good compatibility with Si-based complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) technology. However, the crystallization of polar orthorhombic phase (o-phase) HfO2 is less competitive, which greatly limits the ferroelectricity of the as-obtained ferroelectric HfO2 thin films. Fortunately, the crystallization of o-phase HfO2 can be thermodynamically modulated via interfacial stress engineering. In this paper, the growth of improved ferroelectric Al doped HfO2 (HfO2:Al) thin films on (111)-oriented Si substrate has been reported. Structural analysis has suggested that nonpolar monoclinic HfO2:Al grown on (111)-oriented Si substrate suffered from a strong compressive strain, which promoted the crystallization of (111)-oriented o-phase HfO2 in the as-grown HfO2:Al thin films. In addition, the in-plane lattice of (111)-oriented Si substrate matches well with that of (111)-oriented o-phase HfO2, which further thermally stabilizes the o-phase HfO2. Accordingly, an improved ferroelectricity with a remnant polarization (2 P r) of 26.7 μC/cm2 has been obtained. The results shown in this work provide a simple way toward the preparation of improved ferroelectric HfO2 thin films. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Tumors were classified according to the NCCN criteria such as age, tumor size, tumor marker levels, histopathology, clinical stage, initial treatment, follow-up, and clinical outcomes, were obtained from the database of our center.Results: Among 155 registered cases of TC with seminomatous element, 127 cases of pure TS were analyzed. All 127 patients with a median age of 37 years were pathologically diagnosed with orchiectomy specimens. Orchiectomy, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy were the main treatments for these patients. Patients with clinical stages I, II, and III testicular cancer of accounted for 81.1% (n=103), 15.7% (n=20), and 3.2% (n=4) of all patients, respectively. After a median follow-up time of 50 months, five patients presented with relapse during follow-up, and one among them died. Of the patients with stage I TS (T1N0M0S0 CS IA), three patients who only underwent orchiectomy relapsed. Among patients with stage II TS (T1N1M0S1 CS IIA), one patient relapsed after orchiectomy, post-surgery chemotherapy and radiotherapy. In four patients with stage III disease (T2N1M1aS1 CS IIIA), one relapsed after orchiectomy and chemotherapy, and died shortly after salvage chemotherapy and radiotherapy due to recurrence. The median overall survival time was 50 months. In all patients, the 2-year overall survival and progression-free survival probabilitis were 98.6% and 98.8%, respectively.Conclusion: The present study shows that patients with TS have good prognosis even at an advanced stage. Surveillance after orchiectomy was important for patients with CSI seminoma, and we recommend cisplatin-based chemotherapy as salvage therapy for patients with CSI seminoma. However, the underlying molecular basis of PSD remains largely unknown, and no empirical laboratory tests were available to diagnose this disorder.Materials and methods: A proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR)-based metabonomic approach was employed to profile plasma samples from 32 PSD, 35 stroke patients and 35 healthy comparison subjects (the training set) in order to identify metabolite biomarkers for PSD. Then, 10 PSD, 11 stroke patients and 11 healthy comparison subjects (test set) were used to validate the diagnostic performance of these biomarkers.Results: The multivariate statistical analysis demonstrated that PSD group was significantly distinguishable from non-PSD groups (non-depression stroke patients and healthy comparison group). Five plasma metabolites (phenylalanine, tyrosine, 1-methylhistidine, 3-methylhistidine and LDL CH3-(CH2)n-) were identified responsible for distinguishing PSD from non-PSD subjects. These metabolites were mainly involved in neurotransmitter metabolism and oxidative stress. The biomarker panel composing of these metabolites was capable of distinguishing test samples with a sensitivity of 100.0% and a specificity of 95.5%.Conclusion: Our findings suggest that plasma disturbances of neurotransmitter levels and oxidative stress were implicated in the onset of PSD; these disturbed metabolites biomarkers facilitate to the development of diagnostic tool for PSD.Keywords: post-stroke depression, stroke, metabonomics, diagnosis, NMR
