Given a graph G, one may ask: “What sets of eigenvalues are possible over all weighted adjacency matrices of G?” (The weight of an edge is positive or negative, while the diagonal entries can be any real numbers.) This is known as the Inverse Eigenvalue Problem for graphs (IEPG). A mild relaxation of this question considers the multiplicity list instead of the exact eigenvalues themselves. That is, given a graph G on n vertices and an ordered partition m = ( m 1 , … , m l ) of n, is there a weighted adjacency matrix where the i-th distinct eigenvalue has multiplicity m i ? This is known as the ordered multiplicity IEPG. Recent work solved the ordered multiplicity IEPG for all graphs on 6 vertices. In this work, we develop zero forcing methods for the ordered multiplicity IEPG in a multitude of different contexts. Namely, we utilize zero forcing parameters on powers of graphs to achieve bounds on consecutive multiplicities. We are able to provide general bounds on sums of multiplicities of eigenvalues for graphs. This includes new bounds on the sums of multiplicities of consecutive eigenvalues as well as more specific bounds for trees. Using these results, we verify the previous results above regarding the IEPG on six vertices. In addition, applying our techniques to skew-symmetric matrices, we are able to determine all possible ordered multiplicity lists for skew-symmetric matrices for connected graphs on five vertices.

In this study, we have investigated the ionospheric responses on the August 2017 solar eclipse event by using a three-dimensional tomography algorithm with the ground-based GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) total electron content observations around Northern America. This three-dimensional ionospheric electron density structure from the tomography can provide us more information regarding the density variations and propagations of disturbances. Results show that the ionospheric electron density depletion triggered by the solar eclipse started from the higher ionosphere and then extended to lower altitudes. The maximum electron density depletion is around 40% compared with the previous day of solar eclipse. After around 30 min of the totality, the electron density continuously returned to the normal level. We further conduct a procedure of Fourier analyses to derive the vertical phase and group velocities of the electron density propagations. Results show that the opposite directions of the vertical phase and group velocities around 220–240 km altitude imply the energy/oscillation source by the solar eclipse. Graphical Abstract

To investigate the clinical efficacy of integrated multidomain intervention among community-living older adults with multimorbidity and physio-cognitive decline syndrome (PCDS).This is the secondary analysis from a randomized controlled trial that data of 340 participants with Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scores≥18 were excerpted for analysis.Sixteen 2-hour sessions per year were provided for participants, including physical exercise, cognitive training, dietician education and individualized integrated care for multimorbidity.Handgrip strength, 6-m walking speed, MoCA (total score and sub-domains), Cardiovascular Health Study (CHS) frailty score, quality of life, and serum biochemistry biomarkers.Overall, 96/340 (28.2%) of all participants have PCDS, and the integrated multidomain intervention significantly improved global cognitive performance (overall difference 1.1, 95% CI 0.4 - 1.8, p=0.003), and domains of concentration (overall difference 0.3, 95%CI 0.1 - 0.5, p=0.011), language (overall difference 0.2, 95%CI 0.1 - 0.3, p=0.006), abstract thinking (overall difference 0.1, 95%CI 0.0 - 0.3, p=0.027), and orientation(overall difference 0.2, 95%CI 0.0 - 0.4, p=0.013) across all timepoints among those with PCDS. Besides, interventions also significantly reduced frailty score among those with cognitive impairment no dementia (overall difference -0.3, 95%CI -0.5 - -0.1, p=0.011) and mobility impairment no disability (overall difference -0.3, 95%CI -0.4 - -0.1, p=0.004). and improved quality of life at domain of physical role limitation among those with PCDS (overall difference 5.3, 95%CI 0.3 - 10.4, p=0.038).The integrated multidomain lifestyle intervention plus multimorbidity management significantly improved cognitive function, and enhanced quality of life among older adults with multimorbidity and PCDS in the communities.

This study aimed at evaluating the predictive ability of the Physical Resilience Instrument for Older Adults (PRIFOR) for the recovery of frailty, activity of daily living (ADL), and quality of life in older adults suffering from acute health stressors. The longitudinal study was adopted and patients aged 65 and older with Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) scores between 4 and 6 were included. The PRIFOR was used to assess physical resilience at baseline. Katz ADL, CFS and EuroQoL 5-dimension Questionnaire (EQ5D) scores were all assessed at baseline and one month after discharge. Exclusive heavy quarkonium photoproduction is one of the most popular processes in EIC, which has a large cross section and a simple final state. Due to the gluonic nature of the exchange Pomeron, this process can be related to the gluon distributions in the nucleus. The momentum transfer dependence of this process is sensitive to the interaction sites, which provides a powerful tool to probe the spatial distribution of gluons in the nucleus. Recently the problem of the origin of hadron mass has received lots of attention in determining the anomaly contribution $M_{a}$. The trace anomaly is sensitive to the gluon condensate, and exclusive production of quarkonia such as J/$\psi$ and $\Upsilon$ can serve as a sensitive probe to constrain it. The Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) is a cutting-edge accelerator facility that will study the nature of the "glue" that binds the building blocks of the visible matter in the universe. The proposed experiment will be realized at Brookhaven National Laboratory in approximately 10 years from now, with detector design and R&D currently ongoing. Notably, EIC is one of the first large-scale facilities to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) already starting from the design and R&D phases. The EIC Comprehensive Chromodynamics Experiment (ECCE) is a consortium that proposed a detector design based on a 1.5T solenoid. The EIC detector proposal review concluded that the ECCE design will serve as the reference design for an EIC detector. Herein we describe a comprehensive optimization of the ECCE tracker using AI. The work required a complex parametrization of the simulated detector system. Our approach dealt with an optimization problem in a multidimensional design space driven by multiple objectives that encode the detector performance, while satisfying several mechanical constraints. We describe our strategy and show results obtained for the ECCE tracking system. The AI-assisted design is agnostic to the simulation framework and can be extended to other sub-detectors or to a system of sub-detectors to further optimize the performance of the EIC detector., 16 pages, 18 figures, 2 appendices, 3 tables

There are a significant number of software and computing challenges that need to be overcome at the EIC. During the EIC detector proposal development period, the ECCE consortium began identifying and addressing these challenges in the process of producing a complete detector proposal based upon detailed detector and physics simulations. In this document, the software and computing efforts to produce this proposal are discussed; furthermore, the computing and software model and resources required for the future of ECCE are described. We explore the terahertz (THz) emission from CoFeB/Pt spintronic structures in the below-magnetic-saturation regime and reveal an orientation dependence in the emission, arising from in-plane uniaxial magnetic anisotropy (UMA) in the ferromagnetic layer. Maximizing the UMA during the film deposition process and aligning the applied magnetic field with the easy axis of the structure allow the THz emission to reach saturation under weaker applied fields. In addition, the THz emission amplitude remains at saturation levels when the applied field is removed. The development of CoFeB/Pt spintronic structures that can emit broadband THz pulses without the need for an applied magnetic field is beneficial to THz magneto-optical spectroscopy and facilitates the production of large-area spintronic emitters. Furthermore, by aligning the applied field along the hard axis of the structure, the linear polarization plane of the emitted THz radiation can be manipulated by changing the magnitude of the applied field. We, therefore, demonstrate THz polarization control without the need for mechanical rotation of external magnets.

Chondroitin sulfate (CS) is found in humans' cartilage, bone, cornea, skin, and arterial wall. It consists of the foundation substance in the extracellular matrix (ECM) of connective tissue. The oral supplement form of CS is clinically used in treating osteoarthritis (OA).Cell migration was observed by the transwell assay. The EMT, Akt/IKK/IκB pathways, TIMPs, collagen and MMPs in cell lysate were determined by Western blotting. The expression of MMP activity was determined by gelatin zymography. The production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) was determined by using a fluorescence spectrophotometer.In the current report, we demonstrated that CS can increase the cell proliferation and migration of chon-001 chondrocytes. Treatment with CS induced the epithelial-mesenchymal transition and increased the expression of type II collagen and TIMP-1/TIMP2 and inhibited the expressions and activities of metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2). The phosphorylation of Akt, IκB kinase (IKK), IκB and p65 was decreased by CS. CS treatment resulted in β-catenin production and XAV939, a β-catenin inhibitor, and inhibited the cell proliferation by CS treatment. In addition, also significantly induced intracellular ROS generation. Treatment with antioxidant propyl gallate blocked cell migration induced by CS.We demonstrated that CS induced cell proliferation and migration of chondrocytes by inducing β-catenin and enhancing ROS production. Moreover, our studies demonstrated that CS can increase the activity of chondrocytes and help patients with osteoarthritis to restore cartilage function.

In light of recent interest in Hadamard diagonalisable graphs (graphs whose Laplacian matrix is diagonalisable by a Hadamard matrix), we generalise this notion from real to complex Hadamard matrices. We give some basic properties and methods of constructing such graphs. We show that a large class of complex Hadamard diagonalisable graphs have vertex sets forming an equitable partition, and that the Laplacian eigenvalues must be even integers. We provide a number of examples and constructions of complex Hadamard diagonalisable graphs, including two special classes of graphs: the Cayley graphs over Z r d , and the non–complete extended p–sum (NEPS). We discuss necessary and sufficient conditions for ( α , β ) –Laplacian fractional revival and perfect state transfer on continuous–time quantum walks described by complex Hadamard diagonalisable graphs and provide examples of such quantum state transfer.

Zero forcing is a combinatorial game played on a graph where the goal is to start with all vertices unfilled and to change them to filled at minimal cost. In the original variation of the game there were two options. Namely, to fill any one single vertex at the cost of a single token; or if any currently filled vertex has a unique non-filled neighbor, then the neighbor is filled for free. This paper investigates a q-analogue of zero forcing which introduces a third option involving an oracle. Basic properties of this game are established including determining all graphs which have minimal cost 1 or 2 for all possible q, and finding the zero forcing number for all trees when $$q=1$$ .

Metabolic syndrome (MS) was conceptualized to identify people at risk for cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes; however, the epidemiology of MS and its combinations of components in older adults remains unclear. Data from the Senior Health Examination Program of the New Taipei City Government in Taiwan in 2014 were obtained for this study. All participants aged 65 years or older and those with a prior history of cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease, or diabetes mellitus were excluded. 29,164 senior citizens were retrieved for this study, and 12,331 (41.28%) of the participants were male. The inverse eigenvalue problem of a given graph G is to determine all possible spectra of real symmetric matrices whose off-diagonal entries are governed by the adjacencies in G. Barrett et al. introduced the Strong Spectral Property (SSP) and the Strong Multiplicity Property (SMP) in [Generalizations of the Strong Arnold Property and the minimum number of distinct eigenvalues of a graph. Electron. J. Combin., 2017]. In that paper it was shown that if a graph has a matrix with the SSP (or the SMP) then a supergraph has a matrix with the same spectrum (or ordered multiplicity list) augmented with simple eigenvalues if necessary, that is, subgraph monotonicity. In this paper we extend this to a form of minor monotonicity, with restrictions on where the new eigenvalues appear. These ideas are applied to solve the inverse eigenvalue problem for all graphs of order five, and to characterize forbidden minors of graphs having at most one multiple eigenvalue.

A short review of the genera Ecphylus Foerster, 1863 and Sycosoter Picard et Lichtenstein, 1917 is given. A new species, Ecphylus lini sp. nov., from Taiwan Island is described. Unlike all other species in the genus, it has the strongly striate second metasomal tergite. The species was reared from the bark beetle Scolytus japonicus Chapuis, 1875 (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae). The genus Ecphylus is recorded in the Oriental fauna for the first time. The following new combinations are suggested: Sycosoter alboapicalis (Belokobylskij, 1993), comb. nov.; S. brevitergum (Belokobylskij, 1993), comb. nov.; S. conformis (Belokobylskij, 2009), comb. nov.; S. hahajimus (Belokobylskij et Maeto, 2008), comb. nov.; S. konishii (Belokobylskij, 2009), comb. nov.; S. medianus (Belokobylskij, Iqbal et Austin, 2004), comb. nov.; S. subtropicalis (Belokobylskij, 2009), comb. nov.; and S. topali (Papp, 1993), comb. nov.

Hevea brasiliensis is widely planted in tropical and subtropical regions and is the main source of natural rubber production. The growth of rubber trees is plagued by various leaf diseases, resulting in decreased rubber production. From January to March in 2020, a severe leaf spots disease on Hevea brasiliensis found in Agricultural Science Base in Haidian campus of Hainan University (20° 03' 31″ N, 110° 19' 07″ E), Haikou, Hainan province, China. Spots were only observed on the mature green rather than young and bronze-colored leaves. This symptom has never been reported on the leaves of Hevea brasiliensis. During the early stages of the disease, gray leaf spots were concentrated to the leaf margins, but later expanded forming irregular gray lesions with chlorotic edges (Figure 1A). Eventually, lesions became necrotic shot holed, and leaves curled, wilted, and dropped. Five small pieces were cut from the margin of spots from different infected leaves, and were surface disinfected with 75% alcohol three times for five seconds each time and 1% sodium hypochlorite solution (NaClO) for 60 s. After washing twice with sterile water, leaf pieces were placed in the center of plates with Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) medium and incubated for one week at 28 °C. After 7 days, mycelium developed and colonies were single-spore cultured for further study. One of the strains labeled HN01 developed a yellowish-brown to reddish-brown pigment on PDA, and the colonies were gray and cottony. The colony and pigment feature very consistent with Stemphylium sp. (Figure 2) (Li et al. 2017). Conidiophore were solitary, transparent to pale, mostly 102.1-228.8 µm × 4.0-5.8 µm, with 2-3 septa and apical vesicular swellings 6.5-7.9 µm. The dimensions of conidia were 28.3-45.1 × 11.5-17.5 µm and one septum (Figure 3). Conidia of S. lycopersici were solitary, oblong with a conical end at the apex, with 1-2 septa, and constricted at the transverse septum. The internal transcribed spacer region of rDNA was amplified with primers ITS1/ITS4 (5'-TCCGTAGGTGAACCTGCGG-3'/5'-TCCTCCGCTTATTGATATGC-3'), glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (gpd) was amplified with primers GPD-F/R (5'-GCACCGACCACAAAAATC-3'/ 5'-GGGCCGTCAACGACCTTC-3'), calmodulin region (cmdA) was amplified with the primers CALDF1/CALDR2 (5'-AGCAAGTCTCCGAGTTCAAGG-3'/5'-CTTCTGCATCATCAYCTGGACG3') from genomic DNA of strain HN01 (Xie et al. 2018), and PCR products were sequenced. The ITS sequence of strain HN01 (GenBank Accession No. MZ496930) had 99.64% identity with isolates sl001, sl110, sl111, and sl112 of Stemphylium lycopersici (GenBank Accession No. KX858848.1, MF480547.1, MF480548.1, MF480549.1). Similarly GPD sequences (GenBank Accession No. MZ505106) had 100% identity with strain xiqing, HZ2114 and HZ2115 of Stemphylium lycopersici (GenBank Accession No. KR911809.1, KR911810.1, KT957742.1 and KT957743.1), and CMDA sequences (GenBank Accession No. MZ505105) had 99.85% identity with Stemphylium lycopersici strain LJ1609270201 (GenBank Accession No. MG742412.1). A phylogenetic analysis constructed by MEGA6.0 based on concatenated sequences of the HN01 and another 17 strains from GenBank by using the maximum-likelihood (ML) method showed that the HN01 was clustered and matched with Stemphylium lycopersici LJ1609270201 (Figure 4). To satisfy Koch's postulates, we inoculated mature green leaves of Hevea brasiliensis with mycelial plugs (diameter = 5 mm) of pure cultured strain HN01. All leaves of Hevea brasiliensis were wrapped in a freezer bag to maintain relative humidity85%, and the temperature of greenhouse is 28ºC. The disease developed on the inoculated leaves after 2-3 days, but not on control leaves (Figure 1B). We used the same method as before to re-isolate the pathogen, which had the same morphology and genotypes as the original isolate. S. lycopersici has been reported to infect the leaves of a variety of plants, including pepper, tomato, eggplant, watermelon, Physalis alkekengi. (Yang et al.2017; Ben et al. 2017; Yang et al. 2020). To our knowledge, this is the first record of S. lycopersici causing leaf spot of Hevea brasiliensis in China, and Hevea brasiliensis is the global new host of S. lycopersici. Hevea brasiliensis is the main source of natural rubber and is widely planted in southern China. Therefore, it is imperative to implement disease management measures to prevent potential threats.

A plasma density hole was created in the ionosphere by a rocket launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida near local sunset on 30 August 2020, which is called rocket exhaust depletion (RED). The hole persisted for several hours into the night and was observed in total electron content (TEC) maps, the Global-scale Observations of the Limb and Disk (GOLD) imager, and multiple low-earth-orbit satellites. The RED created a nightglow pit in the GOLD 135.6 nm image. Swarm satellites found that the RED exhibited insignificant changes in electron/ion temperature and field-aligned currents. On the other hand, magnetic field strength was enhanced inside the RED by a few tenths of a nanotesla. Assimilation data products of the Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere, and Climate 2 (COSMIC-2) mission reveal that ionospheric slab thickness increased at the center of the RED, which is supported by combined analyses of the GOLD and TEC data. The RED did not host conspicuous substructures that are stronger and longer-lasting than the ambient plasma did.

BackgroundIn genome-wide association studies (GWAS), the strong association of ABCG2 rs2231142 variant with hyperuricemia and gout was confirmed in Asian population. Additionally, the obesity, diet, lifestyle, genetics and underlying comorbidities are important risks factors predisposing to hyperuricemia and gout. The systematic reviews revealed a significant link between obesity, systemic comorbidities and hyperuricosuria for predisposition of kidney stones (nephrolithiasis). However, whether ABCG2 plays an important role in the phathogenesis of nephrolithiasis remain unclear. The interaction between genetic factors and other risk factors of nephrolithiasis is still elusive.ObjectivesIn this study, we want to explore the association between ABCG2 rs2231142 variant and the risk of nephrolithiasis in modern Taiwanese population, and clarify the role of uric acid in nephrolithiasis formation.MethodsThis retrospective case-control study was conducted using the Taiwan Biobank database. A total of 120,267 individuals of Taiwanese Han Chinese aged 30-70 years were enrolled in the study. The primary outcome was the incidence of self-reported nephrolithiasis. Odds ratio (OR) of incident nephrolithiasis was analyzed by multiple logistic regression models and the interaction between ABCG2 rs2231142 variants, serum uric acid level, on the nephrolithiasis was explored. The multifactorial confounding factors for prediction of nephrolithiasis were also re-examined in our study.ResultsFinally, we identified 8,410 participants with nephrolithiasis and the prevalence was 11.52% and 4.37% in men and women, respectively. Older age (OR=1.08, 95% CI: 1.02-1.03, ppppppp=0.002), and hyperuricemia (OR=1.06, 95% CI: 1.04-1.08, pppp=0.083). Participants with regular physical exercise is a protective factor from nephrolithiasis (OR=0.95, 95% CI:0.9-1.0, p=0.048).ConclusionOur study demonstrated the risk of nephrolithiasis is significant association with ABCG2 rs2231142 variants. This risk also increased with systemic comorbidities (hyperlipidemia, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and hyperuricemia), and lifestyle (obesity, and smoking). With the global progress of industrialization and digitization, an individual’s material needs are gradually sublimated to the pursuit of life satisfaction and spiritual pleasure. The Cultural and Creative Industry (CCI) has been formed accordingly based on this phenomenon and many firms are developing towards culture, environment, art, literature, and other aspects. According to the literature, these firms exist in the form of micro businesses or workshops through a local foundation and are less capable of marketing, promotion, and connecting with new consumer groups. Over decades, governments have attached greater attentions to the development of the Micro Cultural and Creative Industry (MCCI) and set about implementing relevant grants, programs, and professional guidance mechanism. However, the question of why MCCI is still faced with considerable difficulties regarding product management and brand marketing remains ambiguous. This knowledge gap becomes the focal motivation for this article. The study is to ascertain the issue and advise the operators and managers of MCCI on how to determine their products for Profitable Core Trade (PCT) and establish marketing strategies in line with the industrial characteristics. The results and marketing guidelines presented in this study are expected to enable the operators and firms of MCCI to properly establish their respective marketing strategies and channels, and, moreover, proactively to achieve further sustainable business.
