Abstract: Using 88.9 million BB̄ events collected by the BABAR detector at the Υ(4S), we measure the branching fraction for the radiative penguin process B→Xsγ from the sum of 38 exclusive final states. The inclusive branching fraction above a minimum photon energy Eγ>1.9GeV is B(b→sγ)=(3.27±0.18(stat)-0.40+0.55(syst)-0.09+0.04(theory)) ×10-4. We also measure the isospin asymmetry between B- →Xsūγ and B̄0→Xsd̄γ to be Δ0-=-0.006±0.058(stat)±0.009(syst)±0.024(B̄0/B-) . The photon energy spectrum is measured in the B rest frame, from which moments are derived for different values of the minimum photon energy. We present fits to the photon spectrum and moments which give the heavy-quark parameters mb and μπ2. The fitted parameters are consistent with those obtained from semileptonic B→Xc ν decays, and are useful inputs for the extraction of |Vub| from measurements of semileptonic B→Xu ν decays. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present a measurement of the time-dependent CP-violating asymmetry in B0→K*0γ decays with K*0→KS0π0 based on 232×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at SLAC. In a sample containing 157±16 signal decays, we measure SK*0γ=-0.21±0. 40±0.05 and CK*0γ=-0.40±0.23±0.03, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. We also explore B0→KS0π0γ decays with 1.1

Abstract: With a sample of 232×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ events collected with the BABAR detector, we study the decay B+→pp̄K+ excluding charmonium decays to pp̄. We measure a branching fraction B(B+→pp̄K+)=(6.7±0.5±0.4)×10-6. An enhancement at low pp̄ mass is observed and the Dalitz plot asymmetry suggests dominance of the penguin amplitude in this B decay. We search for a pentaquark candidate Θ*++ decaying into pK+ in the mass range 1.43 to 2.00GeV/c2 and set limits on B(B+→Θ*++p̄)×B(Θ*++→pK+) at the 10-7 level. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present a Dalitz-plot analysis of charmless B± decays to the final state π±π±π using 210fb-1 of data recorded by the BABAR experiment at s=10.58GeV. We measure the branching fractions B(B±→π±π±π)=(16.2±1.2±0.9) ×10-6 and B(B±→ρ0(770)π±)=(8.8±1. 0±0.6-0.7+0.1)×10-6. Measurements of branching fractions for the quasi-two-body decays B±→ρ0(1450)π±, B±→f0(980)π± and B±→f2(1270)π± are also presented. We observe no charge asymmetries for the above modes, and there is no evidence for the decays B±→χc0π±, B±→f0(1370)π± and B±→σπ±. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Using isospin symmetry, we measure branching fractions B(B0→π- +ν)=(1.38±0.10±0.16±0.08)×10-4 and B(B0→ρ- +ν)=(2.14±0.21±0.48±0.28)×10-4, where the errors are statistical, experimental systematic, and due to form-factor shape uncertainties. Abstract: The Λc+ baryon mass is measured using Λc+→ΛKS0K+ and Λc+→Σ0KS0K+ decays reconstructed in 232fb-1 of data collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- storage ring. The Λc+ mass is measured to be 2286.46±0.14MeV/c2. The dominant systematic uncertainties arise from the amount of material in the tracking volume and from the magnetic field strength. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present a measurement of the parameters of the Υ(10580) resonance based on a dataset collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric B factory. We measure the total width Γtot=(20.7±1. 6±2.5)MeV, the electronic partial width Γee=(0.321±0. 017±0.029)keV and the mass M=(10579.3±0.4±1.2)MeV/c2. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We search for B-→D0K- and B-→D*0K- and charge conjugates. Here the symbol D0 indicates decay of a D0 or D̄0 into K+π-, while the symbol D*0 indicates decay of a D*0 or D̄*0 to D0π0 or D0γ. These final states can be reached through the b→c transition B-→D(*)0K- followed by the doubly Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM)-suppressed D0→K+π-, or the b→u transition B-→D̄(*)0K- followed by the CKM-favored D̄0→K+π-. The interference of these two amplitudes is sensitive to the angle γ of the unitarity triangle. Our results are based on 232×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ decays collected with the BABAR detector at SLAC. We find no significant evidence for these decays. We set a limit rB|A(B-→D̄0K-)/A(B-→D0K-)|

Abstract: We study e+e-→J/ψcc̄ by measuring the invariant mass distribution recoiling against fully reconstructed J/ψ decays, using 124fb-1 of data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 10.6 GeV with the BABAR detector. We observe signals for ηc(1S), χc0, and ηc(2S) in the recoil mass distribution, thus confirming previous measurements. We measure σ(e+e-→J/ψ+cc̄)B(cc̄→>2charged) to be 17.6±2.8(stat)-2.1+1.5(syst)fb, 10.3±2.5(stat)-1.8+1.4(syst)fb, and 16.4±3.7(stat)-3.0+2.4(syst)fb with cc̄=ηc(1S), χc0, and ηc(2S), respectively. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present results from an analysis of B(0)B(0)--> rho(+)rho(-) using 232 x 10(6) Gamma (4S) --> BB decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at SLAC. We measure the longitudinal polarization fraction f(L) = 0.978 +/- 0.014(stat) + 0.021 / -0.029(syst) and the CP-violating parameters S(L)= -0.33 +/- 0.24(stat) + 0.08 / -0.14(syst) and C(L)= -0.03 +/- 0.18(stat) +/- 0.09(syst). Using an isospin analysis of B --> rhorho decays, we determine the unitarity triangle parameter alpha. The solution compatible with the standard model is alpha = (100 +/- 13) degrees.

Abstract: We report the first measurement of the branching fraction f(00) for Gamma(4S) --> B(0)B(0). The data sample consists of 81.7 fb(-1) collected at the Gamma(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) storage ring. Using partial reconstruction of the decay B(0) --> D(*+) l(-)nu(l) in which only the charged lepton and the soft pion from the decay D(*+) --> D(0)pi(+) are reconstructed, we obtain f(00) = 0.487 +/- 0.010(stat) +/- 0.008(syst). Our result does not depend on the branching fractions of B(0) --> D(*+)l(-)nu(l) and D(*+) --> D(0)pi(+) decays, on the ratio of the charged and neutral B meson lifetimes, nor on the assumption of isospin symmetry.

Abstract: We present a search for the decay B(-)--> tau(-)nu(tau) in a sample of 88.9 x 10(6) BB pairs recorded with the BABAR detector at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center B factory. One of the two B mesons from the Gamma(4S) is reconstructed in a hadronic or a semileptonic final state, and the decay products of the other B in the event are analyzed for consistency with a B(-) --> tau(-)nu(tau) decay. We find no evidence of a signal and set an upper limit on the branching fraction of B(B(-) --> tau(-) nu(tau)) < 4.2 x 10(-4) at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: A search for the nonconservation of lepton flavor number in the decay tau(+/-) --> mu(+/-) has been performed using 2.07 x 10(8) e(+ )e(-) tau(+) tau(-) events produced at a center-of-mass energy near 10.58 GeV with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring. We find no evidence for a signal and set an upper limit on the branching ratio of Beta(tau(+/-) --> mu(+/-) gamma) < 6.8 x 10(-8) at 90% confidence level.

Abstract: We search for strange-pentaquark states that have been previously reported by other experiments--the Theta (1540)(+), Xi(5)(1860)(--), and Xi(5)(1860)(0)--in 123 fb(-1) of data recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e(+)e(-) storage ring. We find no evidence for these states and set 95% confidence level upper limits on the number of Theta(1540)(+) and Xi(5)(1860)(--) pentaquarks produced per e(+)e(-) annihilation into qq and Gamma(4S) decay. For qq events the Theta(1540)(+) [Xi(5)(1860)(--)] limit is about 8 [4] times lower than the rates measured for ordinary baryons of similar mass.

We measure the longitudinal polarization fraction f(L) = 0.978 +/- 0.014(stat) + 0.021 / -0.029(syst) and the CP-violating parameters S(L)= -0.33 +/- 0.24(stat) + 0.08 / -0.14(syst) and C(L)= -0.03 +/- 0.18(stat) +/- 0.09(syst). Using an isospin analysis of B --> rhorho decays, we determine the unitarity triangle parameter alpha. The solution compatible with the standard model is alpha = (100 +/- 13) degrees.

Abstract: We search for strange-pentaquark states that have been previously reported by other experiments--the Theta (1540)(+), Xi(5)(1860)(--), and Xi(5)(1860)(0)--in 123 fb(-1) of data recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e(+)e(-) storage ring. We find no evidence for these states and set 95% confidence level upper limits on the number of Theta(1540)(+) and Xi(5)(1860)(--) pentaquarks produced per e(+)e(-) annihilation into qq and Gamma(4S) decay. For qq events the Theta(1540)(+) [Xi(5)(1860)(--)] limit is about 8 [4] times lower than the rates measured for ordinary baryons of similar mass.

Abstract: We present a search for the decay B(-)--> tau(-)nu(tau) in a sample of 88.9 x 10(6) BB pairs recorded with the BABAR detector at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center B factory. One of the two B mesons from the Gamma(4S) is reconstructed in a hadronic or a semileptonic final state, and the decay products of the other B in the event are analyzed for consistency with a B(-) --> tau(-)nu(tau) decay. We find no evidence of a signal and set an upper limit on the branching fraction of B(B(-) --> tau(-) nu(tau)) < 4.2 x 10(-4) at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: We report the first measurement of the branching fraction f(00) for Gamma(4S) --> B(0)B(0). The data sample consists of 81.7 fb(-1) collected at the Gamma(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) storage ring. Using partial reconstruction of the decay B(0) --> D(*+) l(-)nu(l) in which only the charged lepton and the soft pion from the decay D(*+) --> D(0)pi(+) are reconstructed, we obtain f(00) = 0.487 +/- 0.010(stat) +/- 0.008(syst). Our result does not depend on the branching fractions of B(0) --> D(*+)l(-)nu(l) and D(*+) --> D(0)pi(+) decays, on the ratio of the charged and neutral B meson lifetimes, nor on the assumption of isospin symmetry.

Abstract: A search for the nonconservation of lepton flavor number in the decay tau(+/-) --> mu(+/-) has been performed using 2.07 x 10(8) e(+ )e(-) tau(+) tau(-) events produced at a center-of-mass energy near 10.58 GeV with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring. We find no evidence for a signal and set an upper limit on the branching ratio of Beta(tau(+/-) --> mu(+/-) gamma) < 6.8 x 10(-8) at 90% confidence level.

Abstract: A search for the decay of the τ lepton to seven charged pions and one or zero π0 mesons was performed using the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. The analysis uses 232.2fb-1 of data at center-of-mass energies on or near the Υ(4S) resonance. We observe 24 events with an expected background of 21.6±1.3 events. Without evidence for a signal, we calculate an upper limit of B(τ-→4π-3π+(π0) ντ)

Abstract: We present measurements of the branching fraction and time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in B0-->K0(S)K0(S)K0(S) decays based on 227 x 10(6) Upsilon4S-->BB decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at SLAC. We obtain a branching fraction of (6.9(+0.9)(-0.8)+/-0.6) x 10(-6), and CP asymmetries C=-0.34(+0.28)(-0.25)+/-0.05 and S=-0.71(+0.38)(-0.32)+/-0.04, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic.

Abstract: We have measured the process B±→ (K*±→K±π0)π0 with 232×106 Υ(4S) →BB̄ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. From a signal yield of 89±26 events we obtain the branching fraction B(B±→K*±π0)=[6. 9±2.0(stat)±1.3(syst)]×10-6 with a statistical significance of 3.6 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties, and a charge asymmetry of 0.04±0.29(stat)±0.05(syst). © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We measure the branching fraction and the CP-violating asymmetry of B0→KS0π0 decays with 227 million Υ(4S)→BB̄ events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at SLAC. We obtain a branching fraction B(B0→K0π0)=(11.4±0. 9±0.6)×10-6 and CP-violating asymmetry parameters CKS0π0=0.06±0.18±0.03 and SKS0π0=0.35-0.33+0.30±0.04, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present a measurement of the time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in decays of neutral B mesons to the final states D* π±, using approximately 232×106 BB̄ events recorded by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II e+e- storage ring. Events containing these decays are selected with a partial reconstruction technique, in which only the high-momentum π± from the B decay and the low-momentum π from the D* decay are used. We measure the parameters related to 2β+γ to be aD*π=-0. 034±0.014±0.009 and cD*π =-0.019±0.022±0. 013. Abstract: Based on a sample of 227 x 10(6) BB pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC, we measure the branching fraction B(B0-->pi(0)pi(0))=(1.17+/-0.32+/-0.10)x10(-6), and the asymmetry Cpi(0)(pi(0))=-0.12+/-0.56+/-0.06. The B0-->pi(0)pi(0) signal has a significance of 5.0 sigma. We also measure B(B+-->pi(+)pi(0))=(5.8+/-0.6+/-0.4)x10(-6), B(B+-->K+pi(0))=(12.0+/-0.7+/-0.6)x10(-6), and the charge asymmetries Api(+)(pi(0))=-0.01+/-0.10+/-0.02 and AK+(pi(0))=0.06+/-0.06+/-0.01. Using isospin relations, we find an upper bound on the angle difference |alpha-alpha(eff)| of 35 degrees at the 90% C.L.

Abstract: We search for the factorization-suppressed decays B-->chi(c0)K(*) and B-->chi(c2)K(*), with chi(c0) and chi(c2) decaying into J/psi gamma, using a sample of 124 x 10(6) BB events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring of the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. We find no significant signal and set upper bounds for the branching fractions.

Abstract: We search for the factorization-suppressed decays B-->chi(c0)K(*) and B-->chi(c2)K(*), with chi(c0) and chi(c2) decaying into J/psi gamma, using a sample of 124 x 10(6) BB events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring of the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. We find no significant signal and set upper bounds for the branching fractions.

Abstract: We report on a search for the CP asymmetry in the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays D+→K-K+π+ and in the resonant decays D+→π+ and D+→K̄*0K+ based on a data sample of 79.9fb-1 recorded by the BABAR detector. We use the Cabibbo-favored Ds+→K-K+π+ branching fraction as normalization in the measurements to reduce systematic uncertainties. The CP asymmetries obtained are ACP(K-K+π±)=(1.4±1.0(stat)±0. 8(syst))×10-2, ACP(π±)=(0.2±1.5(stat)±0.6(syst)) ×10-2, and ACP(K̄*0K±)=(0.9±1.7(stat)±0. 7(syst))×10-2. The relative branching fraction Γ(D+→K-K+π+)/ Γ(D+→K-π+π+) is also measured and is found to be (10.7±0.1(stat)±0.2(syst))×10-2. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present measurements of the branching fractions B(B0→D*-Ds *+) and B(Ds+→π+), based on 123×106Υ(4S)→BB̄ decays collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e-B factory. A partial reconstruction technique is used to measure B(B0→D*-Ds*+) and the decay chain is fully reconstructed to measure the branching fraction product B(B0→D*-Ds*+) ×B(Ds+→π+). Comparing these two measurements provides a model-independent determination of the Ds+→π+ branching fraction. We obtain B(B0→D*-Ds*+)=(1.88±0.09±0.17)% and B(Ds+→π+)=(4.81±0.52±0.38)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We measure the time-dependent CP asymmetry parameters in B0→K+K-K0 based on a data sample of approximately 227×106 B-meson pairs recorded at the Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B-meson Factory at SLAC. We reconstruct two-body B0 decays to (1020)KS0 and (1020)KL0, and the three-body decay K+K-KS0 with (1020)KS0 excluded. For the B0→K0 decays, we measure sin 2βeff(K0)=+0.50±0.25(stat)-0.04+0.07(syst). The B0→K+K-KS0 decays are dominated by K+K- S wave, as determined from an angular analysis; we measure sin 2βeff(K+K-KS0)=+0.55±0.22(stat) ±0.04(syst)±0.11(CP), where the last error is due to the uncertainty in the fraction of CP-even contributions to the decay amplitude. We find no evidence for direct CP violation. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

The amplitude of the CPasymmetry, sin2beta in the standard model, is derived from decay-time distributions from events in which one neutral B meson is fully reconstructed in a final state containing a charmonium meson and the other B meson is determined to be either a B0 or B0 from its decay products. We measure sin2beta = 0.722 +/- 0.040(stat) +/- 0.023(syst) in agreement with the standard model expectation.

Abstract: We search for the decay B0-->rho(0)rho(0) in a data sample of about 227x10(6) Upsilon(4S)-->BB decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider at SLAC. We find no significant signal and set an upper limit of 1.1x10(-6) at 90% C.L. on the branching fraction. As a result, the uncertainty due to penguin contributions on the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity angle alpha measured in B-->rhorho decays is decreased to 11 degrees at 68% C.L.

Abstract: We search for the rare flavor-changing neutral-current decay B(+)--> K(+)nunu in a data sample of 82 fb(-1) collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B-factory. Signal events are selected by examining the properties of the system recoiling against either a reconstructed hadronic or semileptonic charged-B decay. Using these two independent samples we obtain a combined limit of B(B(+)-->K(+)nunu ) < 5.2 x 10(-5) at the 90% confidence level. In addition, by selecting for pions rather than kaons, we obtain a limit of B(B+-->pi(+)nunu) < 1.0 x 10(-4) using only the hadronic B reconstruction method.

Abstract: We present a measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |Vcb| based on a sample of about 53 700 B̄0 → D*+ℓ-ν̄ℓ decays observed by the BABAR detector. We obtain the branching fraction averaged over ℓ = e, μ, B(B̄0 → D*+ℓ -ν̄ℓ) = (4.90 ± 0.07(stat.) -0.35+0.36(syst.))%. We measure the differential decay rate as a function of w, the relativistic boost γ of the D*+ in the B̄0 rest frame. By extrapolating dΓ/dw to the kinematic limit w → 1, we extract the product of |V cb| and the axial form factor A1(w = 1). We combine this measurement with a lattice QCD calculation of A1(w = 1) to determine |Vcb) = (38.7 ± 0.3(stat.) ± 1.7(syst.) -1.3+1.5(theory)) × 10-3. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We study the process e+e- → π+π -π+π-γ, with a hard photon radiated from the initial state. About 60 000 fully reconstructed events have been selected from 89 fb-1 of BABAR data. The invariant mass of the hadronic final state defines the effective e+e- e +e- center-of-mass energy, so that these data can be compared with the corresponding direct e+e- measurements. From the 4π -mass spectrum, the cross section for the process e +e- → π+π -π+π- is measured for center-of-mass energies from 0.6 to 4.5 GeV. The uncertainty in the cross section measurement is typically 5%. We also measure the cross sections for the final states K +K-π+π- and K +K-K+K-. We observe the J/ψ in all three final states and measure the corresponding branching fractions. We search for X(3872) in Jψ(→ μ+μ-) π+π- and obtain an upper limit on the product of the e+e- width of the X(3872) and the branching fraction for X(3872) → Jψπ+π-. © 2005 The American Physical Society.
