Introduction: The prevalence of epilepsy in sub-Saharan Africa is high and therefore constitutes a major public health problem. In Niger, the hospitalization rate is 29.5%. The aim of the study is to improve the management of patients living with epilepsy. The objective of the study is to contribute to improving the management of patients living with epilepsy. Methods: This was a retrospective and prospective cross-sectional study in the neurology department of the Amirou Boubacar Diallo National Hospital from May 2017 to December 2022. Results: Our study involved 75 epileptic patients out of 5546 patients who consulted for epileptic seizures, or 0.5%. The sex ratio (M/F) was 1.27. Average age of 17.2 years. Time to treatment less than 2 days in 62.67%. Clinical manifestations with motor signs represented 65.33% and 34.66% of the psychological manifestations. No seizure triggers were found in 50.67% of cases. Familial epilepsy was found in 16% of cases. Head trauma was the personal antecedent in 4% of cases. Consanguinity was found in 48% of cases. Physical examination was abnormal in 6.67% of cases. Secondary generalized focal abnormalities predominated on EEG in 64% of cases and insular localizations in 26.32% of cases. Idiopathic epilepsy was the predominant etiology in 72% of cases. Brain CT was performed in 35% of cases and brain MRI in 12%. Monotherapy was prescribed in 90.67% of our patients. The evolution was favourable in 93.33% of cases. Conclusion: Epilepsy is a common neurological disorder affecting patients of all ages, especially young subjects.

L’alimentation, facteur environnemental déterminant est indispensable pour une production avicole de qualité. Face aux contraintes alimentaires, différentes matières premières non conventionnelles ont été introduites dans les rations de la volaille avec l’usage des matières grasses. Le but de cette étude a été d’évaluer l’effet de l’huile de neem sur les performances zootechniques, les caractéristiques de la carcasse et les paramètres biochimiques sériques des poulets de chair à croissance lente ; par la méthode d’alimentation d’un lot test avec de la nourriture contenant de l’huile de neem, par rapport à un lot témoin avec de la nourriture dépourvue de l’huile de neem. Jusqu’à cinq semaines d’âge de traitement avec des concentrations respectives de 0,25% (T0,25), 0,50% (T0,50), 0,75% (T0,75) et 1% (T1), les individus du lot T0,50 ont montré la meilleur Indice de Consommation et un gain considérable de poids par rapport aux autres lots et au lot témoin. Il a été aussi démontré que, les poulets traités ont présenté une longueur de l’intestin plus élevée et un poids du cœur plus faible que les témoins. L’alimentation des volailles avec de la nourriture à base d’huile de neem auraient donc un effet bénéfique sur les performances de production. Ces résultats pourraient apporter une contribution à l’amélioration de la production des poulets de chair. English title: Evaluation of the trophic effect of neem oil (Azadirachta indica) in Sasso strain broilers Feed, a determining environmental factor, is essential for quality poultry production. Due to dietary constraints, different non-conventional raw materials have been introduced in poultry rations with the use of fats. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of neem oil on zootechnical performance, carcass characteristics, and serum biochemical parameters of slow growing broilers; by feeding a test batch with feed containing neem oil, compared to a control batch with feed without neem oil. Five week chicks were given neem oil feed with concentrations of 0.25 (T0.25), 0.50 (T0.50), 0.75 (T0.75), and 1% (T1), respectively. The individuals of the T0.50 batch showed the best Consumption Index and a considerable weight gain compared to the other batches and the control batch. The treated chickens also showed an increase gut length and a decrease heart weight than those of the controls. Feeding chickens with neem oil feed showed a beneficial effect on production performance. These results could contribute to the improvement of broiler production.

Introduction: In sub-Saharan Africa malaria is the 1st cause of consultation and hospitalization and the 2nd cause of death in health centres. Maradi region is one of the most malaria-endemic areas with periods of high prevalence, particularly during the rainy season, due to the heavy rainfall that occurs between May and October. Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted in the emergency department of the Regional Hospital Centre of Maradi from August 1st to August 31st, 2017. Results: 104 patients were admitted to the adult emergency department for severe malaria out of 305 admissions to the centre, i.e., a prevalence of 34.1%. Our sample was composed of 53.84% men (n=56). The average age of our patients was 38.6 years with extremes ranging from 15 to 90 years. Most of the patients had no comorbidity (80.76% of cases). Thick blood drop was used for diagnosis in 93.25% of cases (n=97). The main clinical manifestations were: neurological forms (34, 61% n=36), severe anemia (31, 73% n=33). Conclusion: This study shows that malaria is a major public health problem in sub-Saharan Africa and particularly in Niger because of its prevalence, severity and morbidity.

L’expérimentation a été conduite pendant trois mois à la ferme avicole ISSAN GODI de Konni (Niger). Elle a pour objectif de déterminer l’effet de deux aliments commerciaux sur leurs performances zootechniques, économiques et la qualité des œufs des poules pondeuses ISA Brown. Deux aliments pontes, un fabriqué au Niger et un autre importé du Nigéria ont été comparés. Cent (100) poules ont été réparties de manière aléatoire dans six (6) lots de 16 à 17 poules chacun. L’ingestion, le taux de ponte, l’indice de consommation, le coût alimentaire, l’indice d’efficience alimentaire et la qualité des œufs ont été étudiés. L’analyse des données a été réalisée avec le logiciel SPSS20. Les résultats ont montré que l’ingestion, le taux de ponte et l’indice de consommation n’ont pas été influencés (P ˃ 0,05) par le type d’aliment. Par contre, l’aliment importé a permis des performances économiques meilleures (P ˂ 0,05). Le poids de l’œuf et la hauteur de l’albumen ont été similaires (P ˃ 0,05) pour tous les aliments. L’aliment fabriqué au Niger a favorisé la performance zootechnique et celui importé la performance économique. Il serait nécessaire d’étudier des matières premières moins chères afin de réduire le prix des aliments fabriqués au Niger. English title: Effect of commercial diets made in Niger and imported on bioeconomic performance and eggs quality of ISA Brown laying hens The experiment was conducted at ISSAN GODI poultry farm of Konni (Niger) for three months laying period. The objective was to determine the effects of two diets on their zootechnical and economic performance and eggs quality of ISA Brown layer. Two-layer diets, one made in Niger and the second imported from Nigeria were compared. A total of one hundred (100) laying hens were randomly allocated to nine (6) batches with 16 to 17 hens per batch. Feed intakes, laying rate, feed conversion ratio, feed cost and feed efficiency, egg weight and albumen height were the parameters studied. The statistical analysis was carried out using the Special Package of Social Science Software (SPSS20). Results showed that the feed intake, laying rate, and feed conversion ratio were not influenced (P ˃ 0.05) by diets. On the other hand, the imported feed allowed lower feed costs and feed efficiency (P ˂ 0.05) than feed manufactured in Niger. Egg weight, and albumen height were similar (P ˃ 0.05) for all feeds. Feed made in Niger favored zootechnical performance while imported feed favored economic performance. It would be necessary to study feed-based cheaper raw materials to reduce the price of feed produced in Niger.&nbsp

La troponine T ultra-sensible (us), marqueur biologique spécifique du cœur, peut être élevée dans des conditions pathologiques autres que le syndrome coronarien aigu. Ces autres causes peuvent ou non être directement liées aux maladies cardiaques. Nous rapportons le cas d'une patiente de 85 ans présentant de multiples événements cardiovasculaires qui présentait une élévation de la troponine T us à 1088 pg/ml, probablement due à de multiples étiologies.

Von Willebrand’s disease was first described in 1926 by Erik Von Willebrand. It is a genetic, constitutional defect of hemostasis that is different from hemophilia. It is classified among the rare diseases whose clinical manifestations are dominated by a hemorrhagic profile, which varies from patient to patient. It is an easily diagnosed disease based on a quantitative and qualitative bioassay of VWF. Treatment is multidisciplinary and is based on well-structured prevention. We report the first case of von Willebrand disease in Niger, diagnosed in the Hematology Department of Niamey’s National Hospital.

The COVID-19 infection has highlighted the most vulnerable patients. Indeed, COVID-19 patients suffering from another pathology including NCDs such as Arterial Hypertension (Hypertension), diabetes, cancers and respiratory diseases are paying a heavy price for this pandemic. We undertook a study in Niger to better document this comorbidity in a cross-sectional study that brought together patients hospitalized at the Niamey General Reference Hospital for COVID-19 infection and suffering from one or more NCDs. Among 273 patients hospitalized from March 19 to June 03, 2020, 34.8% had a non-communicable disease associated with COVID-19. The average age of the patients was 55 years (22 years to 94 years) and the sex ratio was 2.64 (72.5 % men and 27.5% women). Hypertension was the most represented NCD with 24.5%, followed by diabetes in 17.9% of cases, respiratory diseases 3.66% and other diseases (Heart disease, Obesity, Dyslipidemia, Gout, Chronic renal failure) with 3%. Health workers were the most affected by the disease with 38.6% of cases. The average consultation time was 3.77 days with extremes ranging from 1 to 8 days. The clinical symptoms characterizing the two main groups of patients (hypertensive and diabetic) were almost identical. It consisted mainly of cough, fever, chills, sore throat and rhinorrhea. According to the WHO clinical criteria for the severity of COVID-19, 34 patients or 16.11% were severe and 177 patients or 83% moderate. The clinical severity of the disease is significantly correlated with the patient's age (over 50 years) and the presence of an NCD associated with COVID-19.
