58. Effect of spectral pre-processing methods on the evaluation of the color components of red wines using Fourier-Transform Infrared spectroscopy

Abstract

A rapid method for measuring the (i) free anthocyanins, (ii) copigmented anthocyanins, (iii) polymeric pigment fractions and (iv) actual red color at 520 nm from the Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrum was evaluated. Twenty wines, mostly one-year old, with red color ranging from almost zero to 10 absorbance units (AU) at 520 nm were analyzed by reference methods for their levels of the selected color components. Partial least squares (PLS) regression, obtained from several spectral data preprocessing methods, was used for multivariate calibration to relate the chemical variables to the FT-IR spectra. The performance of different models was compared in terms of root mean square error of prediction for cross-validation (RMSECV) and coefficient of determination (RI). The best results were obtained using vector normalization and no-preprocessing of spectral data. FTIR measured the copigmentation of wine with 5.7% RMSECV only.

Current programming environments for novice functional programming (FP) are inadequate. This paper describes ways of using proofs as a foundation to improve the situation, in the context of the language ML [4]. The most common way to write ML programs is via a text editor and compiler (such as the Standard ML of New Jersey compiler). But program errors, in particular type errors, are generally difficult to track down. For novices, the lack of debugging support forms a barrier to learning FP concepts [5].

The CLAM proof planner has been interfaced to the HOL interactive theorem prover to provide the power of proof planning to people using HOL for formal verification, etc. The interface sends HOL goals to CLAM for planning and translates plans back into HOL tactics that solve the initial goals. Abstract

Plus de 30 cas de perforation intestinale ont ete decrits, provoques par des catheters ventriculo-peritoneaux intacts et quelques shunts lombo-peritoneaux. A cause de ce risque, il est recommande que les catheters trop longs, libres ou deconnectes, au niveau du peritoine, soient enleves si possible de l'abdomen. Toutefois nous n'avons pas observe d'observation de morbidite consecutive a de tels fragments libres. Nous decrivons un cas d'expulsion d'un catheter casse, trop long, qui est apparu au niveau du rectum alors qu'il n'avait pas ete possible de le retrouver lors d'une procedure de revision.

71. Biometrics and sexing criteria of the yellow-faced honeyeater lichenostomus chrysops

Abstract

Morphometric data on 99 adult and 13 juvenile Yellow-faced Honeyeaters Lichenostomus chrysops that were independently sexed using molecular techniques were analysed to investigate size dimorphism between the sexes. Our results support previous studies that have demonstrated Yellow-faced Honeyeaters are sexually dimorphic in size, with males being the larger sex. Discriminant analyses of morphometric data were used to develop a simple method for sexing adult Yellow-faced Honeyeaters in the hand. As five observers collected the measurements our sexing criteria are conservative and should have wide application for field ornithologists working on the species.

Abstract

The article reports on the rate of deaths associated with the pandemic influenza A H1N1 among American Indian/Alaska Natives (AI/AN) across the U.S. from April 15 to November 13, 2009. A study on the burden of H1N1 influenza deaths in AI/AN population found that H1N1 mortality rate among AI/AN is four times higher compared to other racial/ethnic populations. It discovered 426 H1N1 deaths in 12 states during the period, 9.9 percent of which include AI/AN.
