Item does not contain fulltext, BACKGROUND: Non-SN prediction models are frequently used in clinical decision making to identify patients that may not need axillary treatment, but these models still need to be validated by follow-up data. Our purpose was the validation of non-sentinel node (SN) prediction models in predicting regional recurrences in patients without axillary treatment. METHODS: We followed a cohort of 486 women with favorable primary tumor characteristics and pN0(i+)(sn) or pN1mi(sn) for median 4.5 years. None of the patients underwent axillary treatment. Based on four published non-SN prediction models, the threshold allowing separation into low versus high-risk on non-SN involvement was set at 10%. RESULTS: Overall 5-year regional recurrence rate was 3.0% (SE, +/-0.1%). Using the Tenon scoring system, 438 low-risk patients had a 5-year regional recurrence rate of 2.3% (+/-0.8%), and 48 high-risk patients a recurrence rate of 10.1% (+/-0.4%). The MSKCC nomogram identified 300 low-risk patients with a recurrence rate of 2.8% (+/-1.1%), versus 166 high-risk patients with a rate of 3.4% (+/-0.5%) (20 patients not assessable). The Stanford nomogram identified 21 high-risk patients without recurrence, and 465 low-risk patients with a 3.2% (+/-0.9%) recurrence rate. A Dutch model discriminated between 384 low-risk patients with a recurrence rate of 2.2% (+/-0.8%) and 102 high-risk patients with a rate of 6.3% (+/-2.9%). CONCLUSION: The Tenon scoring system outperformed the other models as it identified the largest subgroup of patients with low recurrence rate. In patients resembling our cohort we would recommend axillary treatment if they had a Tenon score above 3.5.

Since April 2004, preparatory work prior to CO2injection hasbeen conducted in the CO2SINK Project, the European Union’sfirst research and development activity on the in-situ testing ofgeological storage of CO2near the town of Ketzin, Germany.Carbon dioxide will be injected into a saline aquifer of the TriassicStuttgart Formation in an anticlinal structure of the northeastGerman Basin. The drilling of one injection and two observationwells will commence at the end of 2006. The predrilling phasefocuses on the baseline geological parameters of the anticline. TheStuttgart Formation is lithologically heterogeneous; it consists ofsandy channel-(string)-facies rocks, with good reservoir propertiesalternating with muddy flood-plain-facies rocks of poor reservoirquality. Playa-type rocks form the immediate cap rock above theCO2SINK reservoir. A geostatistical approach has been applied todescribe the reservoir architecture between and beyond well con-trol. This model forms the basis for the generation of reservoir-dynamic models of CO2injection that assist in the planning ofinjection operations and in the understanding of CO2plume evo-lution. A verification of the geometry of the reservoir and thestructural situation of its overburden is expected from a three-dimensional baseline seismic survey that was conducted in theautumn of 2005. Laboratory experiments under simulated in-situconditions were performed to evaluate the geophysical signatureof rocks saturated with CO2. The chemical composition of thegroundwater and the CO2flux in the soil were analyzed across theKetzin anticline, providing the baseline for a monitoring programduring and after injection of CO2, targeted at the detection ofpotential CO2leakage from the storage reservoir.

Samenvatting van de resultaten van onderzoek naar biologische graszaadteelt door PPO in de seizoenen 2000 en 2001. Onderzocht werden de effecten van verschillende bemestingssystemen (dierlijke meststoffen in vergelijking met kunstmest), rijenafstanden en oogsttechnieken (Hege-machine, zwadmaaien/opraapdorsen, van stam dorsen) op de zaadopbrengst en stikstofopname van Engels raaigras. Omdat in het buitenland goedkoper geproduceerd kan worden is het PPO-onderzoek voortijdig stopgezet

The method provides high-resolution seismic images of the rock mass ahead of a tunnel face via an array of standard anchor rods. These contain 3D geophones and can be installed routinely during the excavation process. Another feature of the system is the newly developed high-frequency repetitive seismic source, which can easily be fixed at a tunnel boring machine. A user-friendly software package allows online data acquisition, processing, 3D visualisation and interpretation.
