Supramolecular architectures decorated with various conjugated building blocks give rise to numerous luminescent frameworks with interesting chemical and photophysical properties. The luminescence properties of these MOFs help global researchers achieve success in the field of recognition applications of MOFs for the detection of various targeted toxic analytes. In this regard, different MOF-based materials, along with their different host–guest recognition strategies, have been developed, emphasising selective and sensitive natures towards a particular analyte, which indeed helps in protecting our environment. The present review article discusses state-of-the art progress based on (i) advancement of electrochemical MOF-based sensors, (ii) detection of various waterborne pollutants & VOCs, and (iii) recent progress of MOFs in biomedical sciences, with regard to cancer & SARS-CoV-2, along with the advantages and current challenges to combat SARS-CoV-2 for the clinical purposes. Herein, detection of particular analytes along with their interactive mechanisms have been precisely described; however, it needs to be noted that detailed host–guest mechanistic revelations is not the topic of discussion in the present exploration. In this review, we have covered almost the last 14 years (2008–2022) of research on MOFs in the various sensing platforms. In a nutshell, the luminescent MOFs, along with their extraordinary applicability in the domains of chemical, biomedical and environmental arenas as welfare tools, have been studied in the present review article. The synthesis, magnetic, electrochemical, spectroscopic, and physical studies of group of homo- and heterometal complexes is reported. The complexes were generated by using the metal complex [Ni.sup.II][(oximato).sub.3] monoanions as tridentate ligands.

Herein, we have reported two isostructural mononuclear metal complexes [M(HL)2(ClO4)2], wherein, M= Co2+ (viz. SN‐1) and Ni2+ (viz. SN‐2) and HL is NNO donor Schiff‐base ligand i. e. ((E)‐2‐methyl‐2‐((pyridin‐2‐ylmethylene)amino)propan‐1‐ol) for unveiling as molecular sensor for S2− (sulphide) like hazardous entity. The molecular probes have been characterized by SCXRD, 1H‐NMR, FT‐IR, HRMS etc. X‐ray diffraction studies confirm the mono‐nuclear structures of both the complexes. Interestingly, SN‐1 exhibited remarkable sensitivity towards S2− by naked eye colour change in purely aqueous medium with detection limit of 33.5 nM and binding constant of 11.05 × 108 M−1 while the SN‐2 didn't show any subtle chromogenic changes upon interaction with the targeted analyte. Judicious choice of metal centre plays a pivotal role for such discriminative interacting behaviour. Spectroscopic and DFT studies shed light on the mechanistic pathway of host‐guest interaction, indicating a S2− mediated chemodosimetric approach following HSAB principle. Impressively, the SN‐1 has also been explored towards fabrication of test strips for on‐field detection of H2S/S2−via. "Dip‐Stick" approaches. In a nutshell, the presently developed simple mono‐nuclear metal complex can be utilised for detecting gasotransmitter like H2S/S2− from purely aqueous medium that may be helpful in fabricating "point‐of‐care" devices in coming days for better understanding of H2S as a key role maker in various health related issues. Indoor air pollution (IAP) is a recognized risk factor for various diseases. This paper examines the role of indoor solid fuel exposure in the risk of mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB) in Delhi Metropolitan, India. Using a cross‐sectional design, subjects were screened for a history of active TB and lifelong exposure to IAP sources, such as solid fuel burning and kerosene. The TB prevalence rate in the study area was 1117 per 100 000 population. Every year, increase in solid fuel exposure was associated with a three percent higher likelihood of a history of active TB. Subjects exposed to solid fuel and kerosene use for both heating home and cooking showed significant associations with TB. Age, household expenditure (a proxy of income), lung function, and smoking also showed significant associations with TB. Smokers and solid fuel–exposed subjects were four times more likely to have a history of active TB than non‐smoker and unexposed subjects. These finding calls strategies to mitigate solid fuel exposure, such as use of clean cookstove and ventilation, to mitigate the risk of TB which aligns with the United Nations' goal of "End TB by 2030." We report two isostructural dinuclear transition metal complexes [M2(HL)2(N3)4], where M = Ni2+ (BS-1), Mn2+ (BS-2), and HL is (2-methyl-2-((pyridin-2-ylmethyl)amino)propan-1-ol) and investigate them as molecular sensors towards hazardous entities. BS-1 shows high selectivity towards the S2− and Ag+ ions, easily observed by the naked eye colour change and its detection limit in aqueous solutions for the S2− ion was calculated as 0.55 μM with a binding constant of 3.28 × 105 M−1, while the limit for the Ag+ ion is 21.8 μM. Notably, BS-2 shows good selectivity towards the Ag+ ion with a detection limit of 10.84 μM. Spectroscopic and DFT studies shed light on the mechanistic course of interaction between the host and guest entities, suggesting a sulphide-mediated reduction of the azide mechanism. In a nutshell, these simple transition metal complexes were exploited for discriminately detecting hazardous analytes with real field applications in analytical science (via. The radical-ligand-derived C-N coupling taking place between o-iminobenzosemiquinone and Ga(III)- and Co(III)-radicals is explained. The coupling of Ga(III) radicals is shown to follow the antiferromagnetic behavior, whereas the spin-coupling in the Co(III) radicals is shown to vary from ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic nature.
