68. Sandwich Roiling, Jc, and pinning energy in Ag-sheathed BPSCCO superconducting tapes

Abstract

Abstract: A “sandwich rolling” process was developed to prevent the formation of sausaging and cracks in the longitudinal direction. The stress-strain state of the tape in “sandwich” rolling is the same as that of uniaxial pressed tape because the deformation of steel sheets is negligible in comparison to that of Ag-clad tape. Critical current densities of 3.2 � 104 A/cm2 at 77K and 2.7 � 105 A/cm2 at 4.2K and zero field Ag-sheathed Bi-based 2212 tapes have been achieved using a melt and atmosphere-controlled process. The comparison of pinning potential U0(B) < U(T-0, B) for Bi-2212 tape and Bi-2223 tapes consisting of a different fraction of 2212 phase as well as Bi-2212 and Bi-2223 thin films shows that for the same fields, the Uo for good quality 2223 tapes is at least 1.3 times that for the best 2212 tape and epitaxial thin films after taking into account the difference of the Tc between 2223 tape and 2212 tape, indicating that in BSCCO compounds, in addition to anisotropy, the specific pinning centers such as dislocations, introduced during processing, affect the flux motion at lower B.

71. Variation with density of the transport properties of YBaCuO superconductors

Abstract

The dependence of the normal-state resistivity, resistive superconducting transition (Tc, ΔTc), and of the upper critical-field slope (dHc2/dT|T=Tc) on density has been investigated for several YBa2Cu3O9-x(x⋍2.1) samples. The resistivity decreases rapidly with increasing density, whereas Tc and ΔTc are rather insensitive to a change in density. dHc2/dT|Tc depends sensitively on the preparation conditions. The implications of these results both for the evaluation of the parameters relevant to the understanding of the nature of superconductivity and for the technological applications of granular superconductors are briefly discussed.

72. Domain wall stabilization in Co74Fe6B20 amorphous alloys

Abstract

The derivative of the magnetization with time (dM/dt) as a function of the applied magnetic field (H) has been measured for Co74Fe6B20 amorphous ribbons. The samples of the alloy have been prepared by melt-spinning in vacuum (S) and in argon atmosphere (R). The peculiar hysteresis curves obtained indicate that the process of domain wall stabilization occurs in both samples. This process manifests itself through a sharp change of magnetization (300 Ts-1 for sample S) when the domain wall releases itself from the stable position. A smaller value of dM/dt observed for sample R indicates that the actual preparation conditions affect domain wall stabilization. An additional d.c. field, Hp, (caused by current flow through the sample) changes dM/dt as well as the value of the magnetic field required to release the domain wall from its stable position (Hs) All the observed variations of dM/dt versus H with Hp as a parameter can be explained by assuming that the magnetization of the domains is not exactly collinear with the long axis of the ribbons and that the strengths of the domain wall stabilization at different surfaces of the sample (free and contact surface) are not the same. A model which explains the observed phenomena is proposed.
