Multiple species of the genus Dinophysis produce diarrhetic shellfish toxins (okadaic acid and Dinophysis toxins, OA/DTXs analogs) and/or pectenotoxins (PTXs). Only since 2008 have DSP events (illnesses and/or shellfish harvesting closures) become recognized as a threat to human health in the United States. This study characterized 20 strains representing five species of Dinophysis spp. isolated from three US coastal regions that have experienced DSP events: the Northeast/Mid‐Atlantic, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Pacific Northwest. Using a combination of morphometric and DNA‐based evidence, seven Northeast/Mid‐Atlantic isolates and four Pacific Northwest isolates were classified as D. acuminata, a total of four isolates from two coasts were classified as D. norvegica, two isolates from the Pacific Northwest coast were identified as D. fortii, and three isolates from the Gulf of Mexico were identified as D. ovum and D. caudata. Toxin profiles of D. acuminata and D. norvegica varied by their geographical origin within the United States. Cross‐regional comparison of toxin profiles was not possible with the other three species; however, within each region, distinct species‐conserved profiles for isolates of D. fortii, D. ovum, and D. caudata were observed. Historical and recent data from various State and Tribal monitoring programs were compiled and compared, including maximum recorded cell abundances of Dinophysis spp., maximum concentrations of OA/DTXs recorded in commercial shellfish species, and durations of harvesting closures, to provide perspective regarding potential for DSP impacts to regional public health and shellfish industry. Annual increases in global energy consumption are an unavoidable consequence of a growing global economy and population. Among different sectors, the construction industry consumes an average of 20.1% of the world's total energy. Therefore, exploring methods for estimating the amount of energy used is critical. There are several approaches that have been developed to address this issue. The proposed methods are expected to contribute to energy savings as well as reduce the risks of global warming. There are diverse types of computational approaches to predicting energy use. These existing approaches belong to the statistics-based, engineeringbased, and machine learning-based categories. Machine learning-based frameworks showed better performance compared to these other approaches. In our study, we proposed using Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGB), a tree-based ensemble learning algorithm, to tackle the issue. We used a dataset containing energy consumption hourly recorded in an office building in Shanghai, China, from January 1, 2015, to December 31, 2016. The experimental results demonstrated that the XGB model developed using both historical and date features worked better than those developed using only one type of feature. This article addresses Abel Lefranc's analysis of Love's Labor's Lost. Lefranc was a member of the Académie française, a highly respected Renaissance specialist, who published Behind the Mask of William Shakespeare in 1918. Nothing in Shakespere of Stratford's hundreds of business records or will (the only records we have) reveal any knowledge of French. He never travelled abroad. He was a teenager in Stratford when the events in the play take place. He possibly began to learn French when he roomed with a French Huguenot family in London at the age of thirty-eight in 1602; however, Hamlet, based on an untranslated French source, was presented in 1593. Love's Labor's Lost (1594–98) reveals a detailed knowledge of historical events at the French court of Nérac from 1578 to 1582 and presents important, as well as minor French historical characters, and even a suppressed scandal – a wealth of knowledge not available to the general public. There is no known primary source for the play. Whoever wrote the play knew in great detail what was happening at the court of Nérac between 1578–1582. Lefranc did a phenomenal amount of research to reveal the forgotten history behind the play – the lived experience and its pan-European vision. Objective/Context: Historians have long acknowledged the importance of merchant diasporas and trade networks in Indian Ocean history but paid little attention to merchant capital’s role in transoceanic labor migration in and beyond this part of the globe. Research on slave trading in the Indian Ocean during the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries highlights the need to pay closer attention to the complexities of economic life in this oceanic world. Methodology. This article surveys relevant historiography and draws on archival research in the India Office Records in London and the Mauritius National Archives in Coromandel. Originality. This article illustrates some of the ways in which Asian and European merchant capital shaped colonial social and economic life. Conclusions. A deeper understanding of the social, economic, and political complexities inherent in Indian Ocean history is contingent upon situating the specialized case studies that characterize this field of study in more fully developed local, regional, pan-regional, and comparative contexts. Cooperation between science and business is regarded as a prerequisite for the development of innovation. The aim of this article is to provide a holistic view on the nature of business-research relations in cluster organisations in the Visegrad countries, by assessing their role in promoting this cooperation and identifying its determinants and barriers. The recognition of cluster organisations as a driver of innovation is connected with the fact that they create an environment conducive to cooperation, building trust between their members and reducing numerous barriers that limit it. This paper examines the role of cluster organisations in stimulating cooperation between business and science, providing a comparative analysis of the Visegrad countries in this respect. On the basis of in-depth interviews with managers of cluster organisations, and a survey of representatives of science-sector institutions, the authors clarified the role of cluster organisations in this process. Barriers were also diagnosed, such as the capacity constraints of R&D&I in SMEs, the cost of cooperation due to administrative overheads, differences in the organisational interest and culture. The study sheds new light on the role of cluster organisations and their members, showing that the 'strategic innovators' are critical to science-business cooperation. The research findings may inspire cluster organisation managers and other actors to create a common innovation ecosystem and approach, as well as encourage cluster organisation companies to implement joint research projects together with research organisations, which will result in mutual benefits for the parties involved. This paper diachronically analyses code-switching and language maintenance and shift between Latin and French, on the one hand, and English, on the other hand, in the earliest business accounts of the Grocers' livery company during medieval London. Linguistic methods used here have been successfully applied to manuscripts of another company: the Mercers of London. The new findings, first, confirm that the earlier the account was recorded, the more present Latin and French are, whereas the later the account was kept, the more present English is; however, second, they reveal an unnoticed period of code-switching into Latin and French before English monolingualism, whose evolution stages seem to occur in reverse order. Between 1947 and 1972, governments of India and Pakistan laid claims to ownership, management and share of the India Office Library & Records. These attempts and the British government's responses to them have been bypassed by scholars of decolonisation. This article traces the trajectory of that dispute's three distinct phases, wherein different proposals were mooted to wrest and retain, respectively the riches and records of the IOL&R. Unlike the more-studied African and Southeast Asian cases from the former British Empire, this dispute was less clear-cut and therefore more demanding of both sides in their manoeuvres to pursue their desires. Legal, administrative and technical bids were made in historical and moral arguments, with cultural and economic factors listed in support. In providing their details, this article demonstrates a difficult episode for decolonisation, where at stake was both its curated imperial past and yet-to-be written national narratives. It shows how symbols of a shared history as well as sources of that history's separate writing became an arena of contest as much for the old glory as for new profits. The development of effective brand protection strategies requires an understanding of the potential threats that brands face from illegal actions. Trademark squatting of transliterated names belonging to well-known celebrities and athletes is perceived by the international business community to be a serious problem in China. Translations are words that have been converted from alphabetic languages into words in character-based languages. As such, the purpose of this study was to examine the phenomena of trademark squatting of foreign athletes' names and whether that phenomena poses a significant threat to foreign athletes due to the appropriation and bad-faith registration of their transliterated names. A qualitative research approach was employed to detect indicators for both (a) trademark squatting and (b) good faith registrations, which were then applied to trademark registrations for names that matched the transliterations for well-known NBA athletes and the business records for those who registered the marks. 210 registrations (38%) of transliterated names belonging to 55 (57%) of the 96 NBA players included in the study were deemed to include strong indicators of trademark squatting. The prevalence of trademark squatting in China involving the transliterated names of foreign athletes warrants proactive measures by athletes and those who protect and manage their brands. Athletes who compete in contests that are broadcast within China run the risk of losing the rights to their transliterated names to squatters if transliterations are not developed and registered by the athlete. Devolution of records management (DORM) is a complex, least understood but vital records management reform able to support devolution programmes being embraced in many countries worldwide. This paper investigated pathways to challenges undermining DORM to county governments or local governments: a study of four counties in Kenya in order to come up with appropriate pathways or strategies to counter the challenges. The research questions of this study were: what challenges undermines DORM to county governments in Kenya; which pathways are relevant in countering the challenges that undermine devolution of records management? This study adopted a qualitative approach because of the contemporary and complex nature of the research problem. The selection of the multi case type of case study design for this research was guided by the purpose of the study which was to explore "a case". The research's study area comprised of four sites namely: Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia and Vihiga which were purposively selected on the basis of resources and efficiency. The key finding of this study is that records management (RM) was not effectively supporting counties implement devolution because of the challenges which undermined devolution of records management. These obstacles were: an attitude county have that DORM was not apriority; haphazard closure and transfer of records of devolved functions to counties; inadequate records management infrastructure and insufficient resources to support DORM. Suitable strategies to counter the established challenges of devolution of RM include: prioritisation of DORM; establishment of a criterion on closure and transfer of records of devolved functions; design and redesign of relevant records systems; modernise records management infrastructure and devolution of sufficient resources in terms of funds and human to support DORM. It is recommended that proper DORM programme could achieve more for Kenya's devolved government were the following RM practices prioritised: developing and enforcing a good practice based criteria on transfer of records of devolved functions to County Governments (CG); design and redesign existing records systems according to the business and records requirements of CGs; enact RM infrastructure supportive of DORM, DORM of programme be adequately supported in terms of budget, human resource and facilities. Bequests for tithes forgotten were a staple component of orthodox wills in the early sixteenth century. Interestingly, this element appeared considerably less frequently in these documents in the diocese of (Coventry and) Lichfield and the archdeaconry of Leicester in the 1530s and 1540s. Two probable and possibly inter-related influences were at work: a change of perception of tithes from spiritual redemption to benefice income; and some remembered legacy from Lollard criticism of the purpose of tithes. Between May 2017 and September 2018, the Staffordshire Record Office and the University of Liverpool ran a collaborative volunteer research project titled Historic Flooding and Drought in Staffordshire, part of the AHRC funded project Learning from the Past — exploring historical archives to inform future activities. As researchers working closely within an archive service alongside staff and closely with volunteers, the Flooding and Drought project presented the opportunity to examine collaboration from multiple perspectives at once — the archive, the researcher or collaborating partner, and the volunteers. This paper argues that while not ideal for all archive volunteer activities (such as cataloguing), such projects can facilitate activities that an archive cannot achieve alone. Moreover, by providing stimulating and challenging activities, collaborations can capture volunteer interest, draw in new volunteers, develop volunteer skills and deepen volunteer loyalty and connection to the archive. Further, by working closely with the volunteers and valuing their experience and skills, the researcher can benefit from the support of those who have an intimate knowledge of the archive and the surrounding area. By fostering these collaborations and relationships, archives can provide valuable support for both their volunteers and researchers that might not otherwise be possible. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The J & T Muramats was a trading and pearling company run by Jiro Muramats (1878-1943). Born in Kobe, Jiro left for the Pilbara in 1893 at the age of 15. Jiro attended Xavier College where he studied and subsequently mastered bookkeeping. He succeeded the family’s retail business in Cossack after his father’s sudden death. Jiro went on to become a naturalized British subject in 1899, and successfully developed the business to play an active role in the pearling industry. I found and digitized 5 volumes of the account books of the J & T Muramats which had been preserved by his descendants in Japan. In this paper I argue that the account books written in English nearly 100 years ago are not only invaluable records of Muramats business, but also vital to understanding the economic activities being conducted in the Pilbara at the time. I begin by introducing the contents of the account books (cash books; debt books; ledgers such as purchase ledgers, sales ledgers, and payroll ledgers; they also contained various accounts including personal accounts, expense accounts, property accounts and others). I then examine the Muramats’ trading and pearling businesses. The study of the account books also sheds light on the lives of Japanese indentured laborers employed by J & T Muramats, as well as Muramats’ contribution to the local economy. Finally, I conclude that Muramats’ trading business played a vital role in developing his pearling business, as Cossack continued to be the base for the businesses after he and his wife moved to Darwin in 1929. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the leading cause of hospitalizations among infants in the United States. New strategies to prevent RSV among infants and high-risk young children include the maternal RSVpreF vaccine (Abrysvo, Pfizer Inc.) and nirsevimab (Beyfortus, Sanofi and AstraZeneca), a long-acting monoclonal antibody. We examined immunization coverage among infants born during the 2023–24 RSV season and pregnant persons utilizing data from the Wisconsin Immunization Registry and Office of Vital Records to evaluate uptake of both products and overall infant protection against RSV. 5056 (18.2 %) infants received nirsevimab and 4767 (17.2 %) persons who gave birth during this timeframe received the maternal RSVpreF vaccine; 0.8 % of parent-infant dyads received both products. Overall, 36.2 % of infants were protected from RSV. These findings suggest that improved efforts on several fronts are needed to ensure equitable and timely access to both RSV products while also increasing the number of infants protected against RSV. The entire glottis has mostly been the focus in the tracking of the vocal folds, both manually and automatically. From a treatment point of view, the various regions of the glottis are of specific interest. The aim of the study was to test if it was possible to supplement an existing convolutional neural network (CNN) with post-network calculations for the localization and quantification of posterior glottal gaps during phonation, usable for vocal fold function analysis of e.g. laryngopharyngeal reflux findings. 30 subjects/videos with insufficient closure in the rear glottal area and 20 normal subjects/videos were selected from our database, recorded with a commercial high-speed video setup (HSV with 4000 frames per second), and segmented with an open-source CNN for validating voice function. We made post-network calculations to localize and quantify the 10% and 50% distance lines from the rear part of the glottis. The results showed a significant difference using the algorithm at the 10% line distance between the two groups of p < 0.0001 and no difference at 50%. These novel results show that it is possible to use post-network calculations on CNNs for the localization and quantification of posterior glottal gaps. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Through a comparative historical analysis of two sites on Myanmar's borders with China and Thailand, this article explores how natural resources affected border-making in Zomia. Firstly, the article argues that demand for natural resources drove lowland states' territorialisation of the highlands in the late nineteenth century, including their desire to demarcate borders. Secondly, local actors chose different political strategies in response to lowland state penetration. Some chose to attempt to repel lowland states, others to avoid them. The type of natural resources available ('lootable' versus 'unlootable' resources) enhanced or diminished the effectiveness of the political tactics chosen by local actors. Thirdly, the article explores whether local politics or the 'knowability' of natural resources determined the differential success of border-making in the region. This attention to natural resources can deepen histories of 'state-escaping' highland peoples. This also has implications for the question of human agency and environmental determinism in Zomia, a question which is often implicit but unaddressed when scholars use the concept of the 'friction of terrain'. In the context of accelerating climate change and the global spread of pathogens, understanding the potential for agency of non-human objects is more important than ever. Drawing on archival materials from the Myanmar National Archives, India Office Records, and the British Library, this study gives insights into both the politics of this region today, and how natural resources affected border-making at the margins of states. Human resources are a very important factor in the office administration and records management in company or government office. Performance in the archives and administration section is a unique function that requires high motivation to function as a managerial support in terms of providing archives, documents, and the production of manuscripts both in companies and in government. One important factor in human resources in the archives and music section is the influence of job discipline on performance. This study uses articles that identify the performance of administrative and archive employees in private and government companies. The results of the meta-analysis conducted on 30 research articles obtained a summary effect (average effect size) of 0.860, which means that there is a significant positive effect of increasing performance discipline on performance. Meanwhile, if the research is conducted by dividing the participants into two sections, namely private employees and civil servants, it is found that the summary effect value of private employees is greater than that of civil servants (0.933 and 0.761, respectively), which means that disciplining work can have a greater impact on performance in private company employees compared to government employees. Date occupies a position between many crops with its nutritional and medicinal values. The higher fruit loss induces the processing of these fruits to convert to useful products, such as date syrup and date paste. Date syrup is characterized by its high nutritional value. However, it contains a toxic-hazard compound (5-hydroxyl methyl furfural). This compound is usually formed as a result of the dehydration of sugars under higher temperatures during processing (Millard reaction). So, the present paper aimed to reduce HMF levels in date syrup during processing using different extraction methods. The obtained results emphasized that the extraction method has a great influence on HMF levels of the lab-produced date syrup compared with the commercial sample. Where instant pot, traditional oven, hot plate, microwave methods, and commercial sample recorded HMF levels ranged (from 503.63, 285.38, 1010.00, 240.13 & 1844.30 mg/kg, respectively). In this regard, the microwave extraction method presented the best results concerning with safety of the product: the lowest level of toxic hazard (5-HMF) and high-quality characteristics including Fructose, pH, titriable acidity, and a high score of overall acceptability of Panel test. Meanwhile, the instant pot extraction method was characterized by a low level of HMF and the lowest microbial count. While the commercial sample featured elevated levels of (5-HMF), the highest bacterial count, and the darkest color. The commercial sample also showed the highest score in the following: TSS, density, specific weight, color, and total phenolic compounds. However, it showed the lowest score in turbidity, EC, total, and sulfated ash %. Also, sensory evaluation by Hedonic scale showed consumers' appreciation of date syrup especially extracted using microwave methods. So, the microwave method is recommended method for the extraction of date syrup with a minimal level of HMF and higher quality characteristics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The way that taxpayers interact with a tax system is complicated to understand. There is some evidence that the way taxpayers perceive the tax system can influence the way they interact with it. This is particularly important for small business owners ('SBOs'), as they can be central to the operation of their business. This article considers the perception of SBOs in relation to usefulness of their business records and financial statements and examines whether there is a relationship with the SBO's literacy in terms of business tax, financial statements, computer accounting software ('CAS') and their overall literacy. Infections caused by multivalvulid myxosporeans belonging to genera Unicapsula and Kudoa (Cnidaria: Myxozoa) occasionally affect commercial marine fish species. Postmortem myoliquefaction caused by a variety of Kudoa spp., including K. thyrsites, and unsightly cyst or pseudocyst formation, caused by K. amamiensis, U. muscularis, and other kudoid species, negatively affect commercial values of fillets. However, multivalvulid infections are often latent and imperceptible in the market. Biodiversity, host range, and epidemiology remain to be explored. Here, myxosporean infection was detected in four commercial fish species from southern China, using morphological and molecular analyses. Three Unicapsula spp. (U. pyramidata in Nemipterus japonicus; U. pflugfelderi in Dentex angolensis transported from the Eastern Central Atlantic Ocean, off West African coast; and U. aequilobata in Decapterus macarellus) and Kudoa megacapsula in Nemipterus virgatus were observed to form pseudocysts in the myofibers of the host trunk muscles. All fish hosts identified here, except for U. pyramidata, are new records. Kudoa megacapsula was morphologically characterized by gigantic, cruciform myxospores with four wing-like shell valves morphologically comparable to previous Japanese records of the same species in aquaculture facilities, acquiring fly from China or Korea (Sphyraena pinguis and Seriola quinqueradiata, respectively). Molecular analyses established the conspecificity of the present Chinese isolate with previously recorded Japanese isolates. To our knowledge, for the first time, a partial large subunit ribosomal RNA gene sequence of K. megacapsula was obtained, showing close phylogenetic relationships with Kudoa spp. harboring cruciform myxospores, such as K. thyrsites, K. gunterae, K. whippsi, and K. lateolabracis. Introduction: Family Connects (FC) is a postnatal nurse home visiting program that has scale-up potential because it is brief, inexpensive, and universal. Three investigations have linked Family Connects to improved maternal and family outcomes, but no independent impact studies have been conducted to date.Methods: This study investigates a FC program in Racine County, WI that was implemented by a multimunicipal health department in partnership with a local hospital. The sampling frame included all women who gave birth at the hospital from July 1, 2018 to August 31, 2019 (N=1,511). A quasinatural experiment resulted from systematically restricting FC recruitment to weekdays. All eligible women whose birth records and addresses were obtained from a vital records office were mailed a 6-month postpartum survey. Data collected from 489 respondents (32.4%) were analyzed in February 2022 to estimate the impact of FC on maternal health, infant health and development, and parenting behavior outcomes under intent-to-treat and per protocol assumptions.Results: No significant differences were observed between study groups at baseline. Despite evidence that the FC program in Racine met many model standards for implementation fidelity, null effects were observed at 6 months after delivery for most outcomes. Results suggested that parents from eligible households reported more frequent infant emergency medical episodes than parents who were not offered the program.Conclusions: This study found few significant effects associated with FC participation. In this study, the authors provide a direct comparison made between whole tree-harvesting (WTH) and cut-to length (CTL) methods, which was conducted in two sites in the Slovak Republic and applied to poplar plantations. Both systems, WTH and CTL, have been employed at the highest mechanization level in two sites: "Nivky" and "Skalica". Two different strategies, namely, "mass handling" and "small-scale mechanization", have been used for WTH and CTL, respectively. The study results showed that the level of productivity (ODT SMH−1) in the felling operation was almost double for WTH than for the CTL method in Nivky (+84%) and more than double in Skalica (+113%). The extraction operation under WTH showed a productivity increase from one fifth (+20%) to more than double (104%) that of the CTL method in the Nivky and Skalica sites, respectively. Regarding cost-efficiency (EUR ODT−1), the WTH system offers a similar trend except with respect to extraction in Nivky (higher productivity site), in which the CTL extraction was 4.5% less expensive than the WTH extraction. The study results show that the mass-handling technique deployed in the WTH system offers very good performance in poorer plantations since the very small tree size and low-growing stock challenge the CTL system more than the WTH system. The total operation (felling, bucking, and extraction) costs (EUR ODT−1) recorded by the study in commercial conditions (as contractors perform for revenue purposes) were 32.50 and 45.80 EUR ODT−1 for CTL and 43.30 and 53.60 EUR ODT−1 for WTH for the higher-yield site (Nivky) and lower-yield site (Skalica), respectively. Regarding the WTH System, the researchers found that the drop in efficiency (and the consequent rise in the costs-per-ton of product) depends largely on the bucking phase conducted using the harvester at the landing of the stacked piles of interlocked trees. The main results of this study demonstrate the promising strategy of mass handling associated with the WTH system in medium rotation coppice (MRC) harvesting and shows that bucking is the weaker phase. Future efforts must be made to ensure feasibility of the "mass handling" strategy alongside the entire workflow by means of finding suitable mobile machinery that can delimb, debark, and crosscut tree bunches instead of single trees. This article uses newly available state and business records to investigate the effectiveness of Buy British policies when Britain was a member of the EEC between the early 1970s and the mid-1980s – a period of rapid import penetration and deindustrialisation. We show that government pursued a range of overt and covert measures to combat these economic problems. Overt measures sought to encourage domestic consumers to buy British; covert measures, involving nationalised industries and public procurement, attempted to encourage British firms to source domestically. The article contributes to the emerging business history literature on how Member States tried to exploit loopholes in EEC competition and commercial policy, and it provides new evidence on UK consumer preferences for domestic and imported manufactures. This essay briefly surveys the rich benefits a project like the Congruence Engine offers to national textile collections. Digital technology provides the means to bring dispersed material, written, and oral collections together into one space. However, it also has limitations, and the following will touch upon these. We finish with an overview of themes such a project should engage with and conclude with a mini study of the pre-Samuel Greg (Quarry Bank Mill) family context and how this links the Mill, the collections held at the Northern Ireland Record Office, and West Indian plantations together. The Asian mussel Arcuatula senhousia is known as a successful invader into coastal and estuarine environments worldwide. We here report its Northward expansion along the French Atlantic coast evidenced by new records from the commercial ports of La Rochelle (Bay of Biscay) and Dunkirk (North Sea), both in 2018, following sampling of benthic macroinvertebrates. To date, the Asian mussel has only been observed along the French coast from the Mediterranean Sea and the Southern part of the Bay of Biscay. Its presence in these new locations, which are important for international maritime transport, is most likely related to ship ballast water and/or sediment as vector of introduction. These new insights suggest that this species has not yet finished its expansion process, which could be at the origin of irreversible impacts on ecosystem structure, functioning and services.
