A phonon laser based on an optomechanical system consisting of two optical modes interacting with each other via a phononic mode is considered. An external wave exciting one of the optical modes plays a role of the pumping. It is shown that at some amplitude of the external wave an exceptional point exists. When the external wave amplitude is less than one corresponding to the exceptional point, the splitting of the eigenfrequencies takes place. It is demonstrated that in this case, the periodic modulation of the external wave amplitude can result in simultaneous generation of photons and phonons even below the threshold of optomechanical instability.

We present the study of the decay $J/\psi \rightarrow \rho\pi$. The results are based on of 5.2~million $J/\psi$ events collected by the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M collider. The branching fractions are measured to be $\B(J/\psi \rightarrow \rho\pi) = \big(2.072\pm 0.017 \pm 0.062 \big)\cdot 10^{-2}$ and $\B(J/\psi \rightarrow \pi^+\pi^-\pi^0) = \big(1.878 \pm 0.013 \pm 0.051 \big)\cdot 10^{-2}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. Our results are more precise than the previous relative measurements.

Recently, strong coupling between non-Hermitian physical systems of different nature is widely investigated due to it endows them with new properties. In this work, we investigate the energy transport between strongly coupled systems. We use a partial-secular approach for the description of an open quantum system to investigate the system dynamics during the transition from a weak to a strong coupling regime with an increase of coupling between subsystems. On the example of strongly coupled two-level atoms, we show that near the transition point enhancement of energy transport between the system and reservoirs takes place. This manifests in the fact that energy flow normalized to the coupling constant reaches the maximum both in the cases of zero and non-zero frequency detuning. We show that maximization of normalized energy flow can be used for the determination of the transition to the strong coupling regime in the case of non-zero detuning when there is no clear transition point from the weak to strong coupling regime. The suppression of the energy flow at high relaxation is demonstrated.

Squeezed light is one of the resources of photonic quantum technology. Among the various nonlinear interactions capable of generating squeezing, the optical Kerr effect is particularly easy-to-use. A popular venue is to generate polarization squeezing, which is a special self-referencing variant of two-mode squeezing. To date, polarization squeezing generation setups have been very sensitive to fluctuations of external factors and have required careful tuning. In this work, we report on a development of a new all-fibre setup for polarization squeezing generation. The setup consists of passive elements only and is simple, robust, and stable. We obtained more than 5 dB of directly measured squeezing over long periods of time without any need for adjustments. Thus, the new scheme provides a robust and easy to set up way of obtaining squeezed light applicable to different applications. We investigate the impact of pulse duration and pulse power on the degree of squeezing.

Spontaneous symmetry breaking in systems with symmetry is a cornerstone phenomenon accompanying second-order phase transitions. Here, we predict the opposite phenomenon, namely, spontaneous symmetry emergence in a system without symmetry. On the example of two coupled oscillators interacting non-symmetrically with a set of oscillators whose frequencies uniformly fill a finite frequency range, we demonstrate that the system state can acquire symmetry, which is not inherent to the system Hamiltonian. The emergence of symmetry manifests itself in a change of the system dynamics, which can be interpreted as a phase transition in a Hermitian system without symmetry.

Exceptional point (EP) is a spectral singularity in non-Hermitian systems. The passing over the EP leads to a phase transition, which endows the system with unconventional features that find a wide range of applications. However, the need of using the dissipation and amplification limits the possible applications of systems with the EP. In this work, we demonstrate an existence of signature of exceptional point phase transition in Hermitian systems that are free from dissipation and amplification. We consider a composite Hermitian system including both two coupled oscillators and their environment consisting only of several tens of degrees of freedom. We show that the dynamics of such a Hermitian system demonstrate a transition, which occurs at the coupling strength between oscillators corresponding to the EP in the non-Hermitian system. This transition manifests itself even in the non-Markovian regime of the system dynamics in which collapses and revivals of the energy occur. Thus, we demonstrate that the phase transition occurring at the passing over the EP in the non-Hermitian system manifests itself in the Hermitian system at all time. An ideal equilibrium Bose--Einstein condensate (BEC) is usually considered in the grand canonical ($\mu V T$) ensemble, which implies the presence of the chemical equilibrium with the environment. However, in most experimental scenarios, the total amount of particles in BEC is determined either by the initial conditions or by the balance between dissipation and pumping. As a result, BEC may possess the thermal equilibrium but almost never the chemical equilibrium. In addition, many experimentally achievable BECs are non-ideal due to interaction between particles. In the recent work [10.1103/PhysRevLett.128.065301], it has been shown that invariant subspaces in the system Hilbert space appear in non-equilibrium BEC in the fast thermalization limit. In each of these subspaces, Gibbs distribution is established with a certain number of particles that makes it possible to investigate properties of non-ideal non-equilibrium BEC independently in each invariant subspace. In this work, we analyze the BEC stability due to change in dispersion curve caused by non-ideal interactions in BEC. Generally, non-ideal interactions lead to the redshift or blueshift of the dispertion curve and to the change in the effective mass of the particles. We show that the redshift of the dispersion curve can lead to the negative compressibility of BEC, whereas the change in the effective mass always makes BEC more stable. We find the explicit condition for the particle density in BEC, at which the negative compressibility appears.

Open quantum systems are, in general, described by a density matrix that is evolving under transformations belonging to a dynamical semigroup. They can obey the Franke-Gorini-Kossakowski-Lindblad-Sudarshan (FGKLS) equation. We exhaustively study the case of a Hilbert space of dimension $2$. First, we find final fixed states (called pointers) of an evolution of an open system, and we then obtain a general solution to the FGKLS equation and confirm that it converges to a pointer. After this, we check that the solution has physical meaning, i.e., it is Hermitian, positive and has trace equal to $1$, and find a moment of time starting from which the FGKLS equation can be used - the range of applicability of the semigroup symmetry. Next, we study the behavior of a solution for a weak interaction with an environment and make a distinction between interacting and non-interacting cases. Finally, we prove that there cannot exist oscillating solutions to the FGKLS equation, which would resemble the behavior of a closed quantum system., Comment: 27 p.p

We report on unusual regimes of operation of a laser with a gain medium with a large Raman scattering cross-section, which is often inherent in new types of gain media such as colloidal and epitaxial quantum dots and perovskite materials. These media are characterized by a strong electron-phonon coupling. Using the Fr\"ohlich Hamiltonian to describe the electron-phonon coupling in such media, we analyze the operation of the system above the lasing threshold. We show that below a critical value of the Fr\"ohlich constant, the laser can only operate in the conventional regime: namely, there are coherent cavity photons but no coherent phonons. Above the critical value, a new pump rate threshold appears. Above this threshold, either joint self-oscillations of coherent phonons in the gain medium and photons in a cavity or a chaotic regime are established. We also find a range of the values of the Fr\"ohlich constant, the pump rate, and the resonator eigenfrequency, in which more than one dynamical regime of the system is stable. In this case the laser dynamics is determined by the initial values of the resonator field, the active medium polarization, the population inversion, and phonon amplitude.

Photon rings near the edge of a black hole shadow is supposed to be a unique tool to validate general relativity and provide reliable measurements of principal black hole parameters: spin and mass. Such measurements are possible though only for nearby supermassive black holes (SMBH) with Space-Earth Very Long Baseline Interferometry (S-VLBI) in the submillimeter wavelength range. For subrings to be distinguished S-EVLBI observations with long baselines at the Lagrangian Sun-Earth L2 libration point are needed. However, the average fluxes of nearby SMBH: Sagittarius A$^\ast$ (Sgr A$^\ast$) and M87$^\ast$ -- $F_\nu\sim 1$ Jy, are still insufficient to detect the signal from the photon rings with even such long baselines. We argue that only manifestations of flares in the submillimeter waveband in their accretion disks can reveal observable signals from the photon rings with the S-EVLBI at L2. Such observations will become possible within the planned join program of the {\it Event Horizon Telescope} (EHT) and {\it Millimetron Space Observatory} (MSO), and within the planned {\it next generation EHT} (ngEHT) project. Two different observational tests for photons rings are discussed. The first one involves observations of a time series of responds from subsequent subrings as can be seen in a 1D visibility function within the join EHT-MSO configuration, the second one -- measurements of an increase of the angle between subsequent subrings in the 2D VLBI image which can be obtained within the ngEHT project., Comment: Accepted to publish in Physical Review D

Light with high mutual correlations at different frequencies can be used to create heralded single-photon sources, which may serve as the basic elements of existing quantum cryptography and quantum teleportation schemes. One of the important examples in natural systems of light with high mutual correlations is the light produced by spontaneous Raman scattering on an ensemble of molecules. In this paper, we investigate the possibility of using Raman light to create a heralded single-photon source. We show that when using Stokes scattered light for postselection of an anti-Stokes scattered light, the latter may posses the single-photon properties. We analyze the influence of the various negative factors on the characteristics of such a heralded single-photon source, which include a time delay between Stokes and anti-Stokes photons, the finiteness of the correlation radius of an external source, and background radiation. We show that the high purity of the single-photon source is preserved even when the flow of uncorrelated photons exceeds the flow of correlated photons in the scattered Raman light by an order of magnitude.

Existing methods for the localization of light at the nanoscale use either a structure with negative permittivity, by exploiting subwavelength plasmonic resonances, or a dielectric structure with a high refractive index, which reduces the wavelength. In this paper, we provide an alternative to these two methods based on a modification of the modes of dielectric resonators by means of an active medium. We show that an active medium can promote subwavelength light localization in the dielectric structure. We consider a dielectric layer of size substantially smaller than a half-wavelength of light in the dielectric medium, and demonstrate that at a certain value of gain in the active medium, the phase change on reflection at the layer boundaries compensates for the change in phase due to propagation over the layer. At this value of the gain, the gain-assisted mode forms, in which the phase shift during a round trip of the electromagnetic wave is zero. This gain-assisted mode exists only at a positive gain in the dielectric medium, and can be used to create dielectric lasers and sensors of subwavelength size.

The theoretical description of non-equilibrium Bose--Einstein condensate (BEC) is one of the main challenges in modern statistical physics and kinetics. The non-equilibrium nature of BEC makes it impossible to employ the well-established formalism of statistical mechanics. We develop a framework for the analytical description of a non-equilibrium phase transition to BEC that, in contrast to previously developed approaches, takes into account the infinite number of continuously distributed states. We consider the limit of fast thermalization and obtain an analytical expression for the full density matrix of a non-equilibrium ideal BEC which also covers the equilibrium case. For the particular cases of 2D and 3D, we investigate the non-equilibrium formation of BEC by finding the temperature dependence of the ground state occupation and second-order coherence function. We show that for a given pumping rate, the macroscopic occupation of the ground state and buildup of coherence may occur at different temperatures. Moreover, the buildup of coherence strongly depends on the pumping scheme. The properties of the light vector mesons in the presence of local parity breaking medium with a chiral imbalance are considered in the vector-meson dominance model. Applying the finite lowest-order radiatively induced local effective Lagrangian, initially developed for the QED, for the vector $\rho$ and $\omega$ mesons, we obtained the mass spectrum as a function of momentum and chiral chemical potential $\mu_5$. Strong coupling regime takes place in open hybrid systems consisting of two or more physical subsystems when the coupling strength between subsystems exceeds the relaxation rate. The relaxation arises due to the interaction of the system with environment. For this reason, it is usually believed that the enhancement of the interaction with environment inevitably leads to a transition of the system from the strong to weak coupling regime. In this paper, we refute this common opinion. We demonstrate the interaction of the coupled system with environment induces an additional coupling between the subsystems that contribute to retention the system in the strong coupling regime. We show that the environmental-induced coupling strength is proportional to the product of the Rabi coupling strength by the gradient of the density of states of the reservoir. There is a critical Rabi coupling strength above which the environmental-induced coupling ensures that the system remains in the strong coupling regime at any relaxation rate. In this case, the strong coupling regime takes place even when the relaxation rate is significantly above the Rabi coupling strength between the subsystems. The critical coupling depends on the gradient of the reservoir density of states. Imaging of the shadow around supermassive black hole (SMBH) horizon with a very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) is recognized recently as a powerful tool for experimental testing of Einstein's General relativity. The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) has demonstrated that an Earth-extended VLBI with the maximum long base ($D=10,700$ km) can provide a sufficient angular resolution $\theta\sim 20~\mu$as at $\lambda=1.3$ mm ($\nu=230$ GHz) for imaging the shadow around SMBH located in the galaxy M87$^\ast$. However, the accuracy of critically important characteristics, such as the asymmetry of the crescent-shaped bright structure around the shadow and the sharpness of a transition zone between the shadow floor and the bright crescent silhouette, both of order $\Delta\theta\sim 4~\mu$as, is still to be improved. In our previous paper we have shown that Space-Earth VLBI observation within a joint Millimetron and EHT configuration at the near-Earth high elliptical orbit (HEO) can considerably improve the image quality. Even more solid grounds for firm experimental validation of General relativity can be obtained with a higher resolution available within the joint Millimetron and EHT program at the Lagrangian point L2 in the Sun-Earth system with an expected imaging resolution at 230~GHz of $\Delta\theta\sim 5~\mu$as. In this paper we argue that in spite of limitations of L2 orbit, an adequate sparse $(u,v)$ coverage can be achieved and the imaging of the shadows around Sgr A$^\ast$ and M87$^\ast$ can be performed with a reasonable quality., Comment: 16 pages, 13 figures, 10 tables

We demonstrate a new type of non-Hermitian phase transition in open systems far from thermal equilibrium, which takes place in coupled systems interacting with reservoirs at different temperatures. The frequency of the maximum in the spectrum of energy flow through the system plays the role of the order parameter, and is determined by an analog of the -potential. The phase transition is exhibited in the frequency splitting of the spectrum at a critical point, the value of which is determined by the relaxation rates and the coupling strengths. Near the critical point, fluctuations of the order parameter diverge according to a power law. We show that the critical exponent depends only on the ratio of reservoir temperatures. This dependence indicates the non-equilibrium nature of the phase transition at the critical point. This new non-Hermitian phase transition can take place in systems without exceptional points.

In this letter, we give an analytical quantum description of a non-equilibrium polariton Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) based on the solution of the master equation for the full polariton density matrix in the limit of fast thermalization. We find the density matrix of a non-equilibrium BEC, that takes into account quantum correlations between all polariton states. We show that the formation of BEC is accompanied by the build-up of cross-correlations between the ground state and the excited states reaching their highest values at the condensation threshold. Despite the non-equilibrium nature of polariton systems, we show the average population of polariton states exhibits the Bose-Einstein distribution with an almost zero effective chemical potential above the condensation threshold similar to an equilibrium BEC. We demonstrate that above threshold the effective temperature of polariton condensate drops below the reservoir temperature.

An equation is derived for analyzing the self-action of a wave packets with few optical cycles in multicore fibers (MCF). A new class of stable out-of-phase spatio-temporal solitons with few cycle durations in the MCF with cores located in a ring is found and analyzed. The stability boundary of the obtained solutions is determined. As an example of using such solitons, we considered the problem of their self-compression in the process of multisoliton dynamics in the MCF. The formation of laser pulses with a duration of few optical cycles at the output of a ten-core MCF is shown.

(Abridged) Modern studies and industrial applications related to the design, radiation protection, and reliability of nuclear facilities, medical applications, as well as space research and exploration are relying on extensive simulations and modeling. Computer codes realizing semi-classical and quantum molecular dynamics (QMD) approaches are often employed to make up for the lack of accelerator data on many nuclear reactions at intermediate and high energies (>10s of MeV/n) and are in high demand. This contribution focuses on the methodology of generating reliable proton-induced cross sections in the energy range below 1 GeV. We developed a problem-oriented computer framework based on MCNPX and CASCADE/INPE codes to calculate activation cross section data at intermediate and high energies. Goodness of the fits of nucleon-nucleus interaction models to the existing data is evaluated based on elaborated algorithms. The method is based on the analysis of a large set of data and calculated cross sections for different targets and residual nuclei in a wide range of proton energies using numerous criteria. In practice, this could be done by tuning the model parameters and algorithms to fit required experimental data subset, or through achieving unification and consistency of fundamental parameters for all considered reactions. The presented framework is pursuing the latter approach. We use proton-induced reactions on Si and Fe nuclei to illustrate the application of the developed multi-criteria algorithm, where we use all data below 1 GeV available from the EXFOR data library and the IAEA CRP "Benchmark of Spallation Models."
