This paper presents a novel dual mode multifunction filter using Voltage Differencing Differential Difference Current Conveyor (VD-DDCC) as active element. The filter provides low pass (LP), high pass (HP), band pass (BP), notch pass (NP) and all pass (AP) responses in voltage mode (VM) and transadmittance mode (TAM). The filter employs two VD-DDCC, two capacitors and three resistors. All passive components are grounded which is advantageous. The filters have the ability to operate in dual mode and don't require any capacitive matching. Quality factor of the filter can be tuned independent of the pole frequency. Input impedance for (VM & TAM) is high and output impedance for (TAM) is high as well. Double/negative voltage input signals for filter response realization are not required. The VD-DDCC and the filter circuit is designed and validated in Cadence Virtuoso Analog Design Environment using 0.18µm pdk from Silterra Malaysia at supply voltage of ± 1V. The increasing demand in silicon nano-photonics has encouraged many researchers to put more efforts to explore the feasibility of using optics in the communication medium in order to replace the conventional electrical interconnects (EIs). In this paper, we proposed a SOI- based waveguide in the optical interconnect (OI) link at an operating frequency of 1550nm to work as an interconnection path in a circuit. The performance capability of the OI link was tested using a two-stage CE amplifier to work as the interconnection path from the 1st stage to the 2nd stage amplifier. In term of optical performances, the optical waveguide interconnect managed to achieve a single mode condition for a TE mode and fulfill the receiver sensitivity of a photodiode. While, in term of electrical performance, a two-stage CE amplifier is able to produce a high gain, a wide bandwidth and high slew rate. The proposed implementation of the OIs waveguide is succesfully enhance the performance of the two-stage CE amplifier as well as the analog electronic circuit applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a new practical QPSK receiver that uses digitized samples of incoming QPSK analog signal to determine the phase of the QPSK symbol. The proposed technique is more robust to phase noise and consumes up to 89.6% less power for signal detection in demodulation operation. On the contrary, the conventional QPSK demodulation process where it uses coherent detection technique requires the exact incoming signal frequency; thus, any variation in the frequency of the local oscillator or incoming signal will cause phase noise. A software simulation of the proposed design was successfully carried out using MATLAB Simulink software platform. In the conventional system, at least 10 dB signal to noise ratio (SNR) is required to achieve the bit error rate (BER) of 10-6, whereas, in the proposed technique, the same BER value can be achieved with only 5 dB SNR. Since some of the power consuming elements such as voltage control oscillator (VCO), mixer, and low pass filter (LPF) are no longer needed, the proposed QPSK demodulator will consume almost 68.8% to 99.6% less operational power compared to conventional QPSK demodulator. In this work mass loading sensitivity of a Sezawa wave mode based surface acoustic wave (SAW) device is investigated through finite element method (FEM) simulation and the prospects of these devices to function as highly sensitive SAW sensors is reported. A ZnO/Si layered SAW resonator is considered for the simulation study. Initially the occurrence of Sezawa wave mode and displacement amplitude of the Rayleigh and Sezawa wave mode is studied for lower ZnO film thickness. Further, a thin film made of an arbitrary material is coated over the ZnO surface and the resonance frequency shift caused by mass loading of the film is estimated. It was observed that Sezawa wave mode shows significant sensitivity to change in mass loading and has higher sensitivity (eight times higher) than Rayleigh wave mode for the same device configuration. Further, the mass loading sensitivity was observed to be greater for a low ZnO film thickness to wavelength ratio. Accordingly, highly sensitive SAW sensors can be developed by coating a sensing medium over a layered SAW device and operating at Sezawa mode resonance frequency. Precision crop safety relies on automated systems for detecting and classifying plants. This work proposes the detection and classification of nine species of plants of the PlantVillage dataset using the proposed developed compact convolutional neural networks and AlexNet with transfer learning. The models are trained using plant leaf data with different data augmentations. The data augmentation shows a significant improvement in classification accuracy. The proposed models are also used for the classification of 32 classes of the Flavia dataset. The proposed developed N1 model has a classification accuracy of 99.45%, N2 model has a classification accuracy of 99.65%, N3 model has a classification accuracy of 99.55%, and AlexNet has a classification accuracy of 99.73% for the PlantVillage dataset. In comparison to AlexNet, the proposed models are compact and need less training time. The proposed N1 model takes 34.58%, the proposed N2 model takes 18.25%, and the N3 model takes 20.23% less training time than AlexNet. The N1 model and N3 models are size 14.8 MB making it 92.67% compact, and the N2 model is 29.7 MB which makes it 85.29% compact as compared to AlexNet. An intelligent insole system may monitor the individual's foot pressure and temperature in real-time from the comfort of their home, which can help capture foot problems in their earliest stages. Constant monitoring for foot complications is essential to avoid potentially devastating outcomes from common diseases such as diabetes mellitus. Inspired by those goals, the authors of this work propose a full design for a wearable insole that can detect both plantar pressure and temperature using off-the-shelf sensors. The design provides details of specific temperature and pressure sensors, circuit configuration for characterizing the sensors, and design considerations for creating a small system with suitable electronics. The procedure also details how, using a low-power communication protocol, data about the individuals' foot pressure and temperatures may be sent wirelessly to a centralized device for storage. This research may aid in the creation of an affordable, practical, and portable foot monitoring system for patients. The solution can be used for continuous, at-home monitoring of foot problems through pressure patterns and temperature differences between the two feet. The generated maps can be used for early detection of diabetic foot complication with the help of artificial intelligence.

The design and implementation of a high-speed direct digital frequency synthesizer are presented. A modified Brent-Kung parallel adder is combined with pipelining technique to improve the speed of the system. A gated clock technique is proposed to reduce the number of registers in the phase accumulator design. The quarter wave symmetry technique is used to store only one quarter of the sine wave. The ROM lookup table (LUT) is partitioned into three 4-bit sub-ROMs based on angular decomposition technique and trigonometric identity. Exploiting the advantages of sine-cosine symmetrical attributes together with XOR logic gates, one sub-ROM block can be removed from the design. These techniques, compressed the ROM into 368 bits. The ROM compressed ratio is 534.2:1, with only two adders, two multipliers, and XOR-gates with high frequency resolution of 0.029 Hz. These techniques make the direct digital frequency synthesizer an attractive candidate for wireless communication applications.
