Abstract

We have analyzed the S&P500 global stock market using different absolute threshold value approaches to study the market dynamics using several network parameters. It is observed that the lower absolute threshold values response with higher magnitudes in different topological parameters, while higher percent changes in those parameters are seen in the case of higher absolute threshold values. These higher percent changes provide a clear indication of the market dynamics. However, a network parameter named degree assortativity provides higher magnitude and percent changes only for the lower absolute threshold values. Furthermore, the dissimilarity between the threshold networks of two consecutive years is maximum for the higher absolute threshold value. This maximum dissimilarity provides a clear notion about the market movements, especially during important crisis periods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

With the advancement of technology, banking sector in Bangladesh has witnessed a dramatic shift in financial sector especially in the form of transactions. Cashless transactions, through Plastic money are growing rapidly from its inception in 1997. The purpose of this particular study is to unearth the moderating influence of the perceptions about the plastic money (Perceived advantages, Perceived disadvantages, Psychological factors) on the perceived future growth of plastic money market of Bangladesh. This study used 159 replies, with a response rate of 78 percent, which was collected through a self-administered survey using Mall intercept technique, judgmental technique and snowball technique. The results, derived from Step-wise multiple linear regression analysis by the usage of AMOS 2O showed that perceived advantages, perceived disadvantages and psychological factors-all three significantly modify customers’ attitude toward growth. Moreover, the study attempts to link how the growth of plastic money market leads to green banking practices, which in turn will accelerate sustainable development. Plastic money marketers (Banks and Financial institutions) will have a great implication from this study regarding how to utilize the growth potential and become a sustainable development agent. Abstract

Background: The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine (Covishield) was the first to be introduced in Bangladesh to fight the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic. As this vaccine had shown some side-effects in its clinical trial, we aimed to conduct a study assessing short-term adverse events following immunization (AEFIs) in Bangladesh. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted on social and electronic media platforms by delivering an online questionnaire among people who had taken at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The collected data were then analysed to evaluate various parameters related to the AEFIs of the respondents. Results: A total of 626 responses were collected. Of these, 623 were selected based on complete answers and used for the analysis. Most of the respondents were between 30-60 years of age, and 40.4% were female. We found that a total of 8.5% of the total respondents had been infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Our survey revealed that out of 623 volunteers, 317 reported various side-effects after taking the vaccine, which is about 50.88% of the total participants. The majority of participants (37.07%, 231/623) reported swelling and pain at the injection site and fever (25.84%, 162/623); these were some of the common localized and generalized symptoms after the COVID-19 vaccine administration. Conclusion: The side-effects reported after receiving the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine (Covishield) are similar to those reported in clinical trials, demonstrating that the vaccines have a safe therapeutic window. Moreover, further research is needed to determine the efficacy of existing vaccines in preventing SARS-CoV-2 infections or after-infection hospitalization.

Abstract

Background: Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is the most common nutritional disorder in pregnancy in developing countries. Different iron preparations are supplemented to treat IDA in pregnancy, which can lead to different side effects like nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, constipation or diarrohea, hyperacidity. Emblica officinalis is a well known traditional fruit to reduce these side effects. Aim: To determine the side effects of iron supplementation and beneficial role of amloki in pregnancy to reduce these side effects.Methods and materials: This interventional study was done in the Department of Physiology, Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka from July 2016 to June 2017. From the Outpatient Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, 46 pregnant women were selected purposively on the basis of inclusion and exclusion criteria. Anaemic pregnant women supplemented with oral iron and amloki were considered as study groups (Group A) and pregnant women supplemented with only iron for 45 days were considered as control group (Group B). A previously formed structured questionnaire was used to evaluate the subjective complaints. Chi-square test was performed to compare between the groups. Abstract

This study was undertaken to observe the effects of spirulina (Spirulina platensis) and riboflavin in hematological and biochemical parameters against arsenic toxicity in Long Evans rat. Sixty male rats were taken to perform the study. Experimental rats were divided into five equal groups. Each group consists of 12 rats. Animals of T0 group were given normal feed and water and kept as control. Rats of T1, were given arsenic trioxide @ 100 mg/L drinking water orally. Rats of group T2 were given arsenic trioxide @ 100 mg/L drinking water and with spirulina @ 1 gm/kg feed. Group T3 were given arsenic trioxide @ 100 mg/L with riboflavin @ 10mg /kg body weight. Group T4 were given arsenic trioxide and spirulina and riboflavin with same dose up to 45 days respectively. Four rats from each group (T0, T1, T2, T3 and T4) were sacrificed at 15 days interval to determine body weight, hematological and biochemical parameters.
