Incremental sheet forming (ISF) is a metal forming technology in which small incremental deformations determine the final shape. The sheet is deformed by a hemispherical tool that follows the required shape contour to deform the sheet into the desired geometry. In this study, single point incremental sheet forming (SPIF) has been implemented in dentistry to manufacture a denture plate using two types of stainless steel, 304 and 316L, with an initial thickness of 0.5mm and 0.8mm, respectively. Stainless steel was selected due to its biocompatibility and reasonable cost. A three-dimensional (3D) analysis procedure was conducted to evaluate the manufactured part's geometrical accuracy and thickness distribution. The obtained results confirm the capability of SPIF to produce thin-walled biomedical components with satisfactory dimensional accuracy, as geometrical deviations between the developed and the actual models are predominantly in the range of ±0.25mm.

The tomato, one of the world’s most extensively cultivated and consumed vegetable crops is negatively impacted by various pathogens. This study aimed to observe the differentially expressed proteins in tomato samples in plant–pathogen-biocontrol interactions. The fungal pathogen associated with wilted plants were isolated and identified based on its morphological and molecular characteristics. Fourteen strains of Pseudomonas fluorescens from agricultural soils were identified and described using biochemical assays, molecular analyses, and screening for antagonistic ability against the Fusarium wilt pathogen. Results demonstrated that the potential of P. fluorescens (TPf12) positively influenced the expression of antagonism against tomato wilt disease. A total of 14 proteins expressed differently were revealed in the 2D-PAGE-MS investigation. Proteins such as nucleoside diphosphate kinase, phenylalanine ammonia-lyase, protein kinase family protein, Ser/Thr protein kinase-like are unchanged in FOL pathogen interaction, but up-regulated in FOL + TPf12 treated roots, and lipid transfer-like protein, and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase were down-regulated in FOL infested roots and upregulated in FOL + TPf12 treated tomato roots. Phenylalanine ammonia-lyase protein expression is commonly found in TPf12 bioenriched roots, and FOL + TPf12 treated roots, indicating its role in response to the application of TPf12 in tomato. A GC–MS analysis was performed to detect the bioactive metabolites synthesized by TPf12. Molecular docking investigations were conducted using the maestro’s GLIDE docking module of the Schrodinger Software program. Among the secondary metabolites, Cyclohexanepropanoic acid, 2-oxo-, methyl ester (CAS), and 3-o-(4-o-Beta-D-Galactopyranosyl-Beta-D-Galactopyraosyl)-2-Acetylamino-2-Deoxy-D-Galactose were shown to be top-ranked with a least docking score against each differently expressed proteins. The profiled molecules expressed differently due to plant-pathogen-biocontrol interactions may be directly or incidentally involved in the wilt disease resistance of tomato plants.

The Christiansen Uniformity Coefficient (CUC) describes the distribution of water in a sprinkler system. In this study, two types of models were developed to predict the Christiansen Uniformity Coefficient (CUC) of sprinkler irrigation systems: Artificial Neural Network (ANN), specifically the feed-forward neural networks, and multiple linear regression (MLR) models. The models were trained on a dataset of published research on the CUC of sprinkler irrigation systems, which included data on a variety of design, operating, and meteorological condition variables. In order to build the predictive model of CUC, 10 input parameters were used including sprinkler height (H), working pressure (P), nozzle diameter (D and da), sprinkler line spacing (SL), sprinkler spacing (SS), wind speed (WS), wind direction (WD), temperature (T), and relative humidity (RH). Fifty percent (50%) of the data was used to train ANN models and the remaining data for cross-validation (25%) and for testing (25%). Multiple linear regression models were built using the training data. Four statistical criteria were used to evaluate the model’s predictive quality: the correlation coefficient (R), the index of agreement (d), the root mean square error (RMSE), and the mean absolute error (MAE). Statistical analysis demonstrated that the best predictive ability was obtained when the models (ANN and MLR) utilized all the input variables. The results demonstrated that the accuracy of ANN models, predicting the CUC of sprinkler irrigation systems, is higher than that of the MLR ones. During the training stage, the ANN models were more accurate in predicting CUC than MLR, with higher R (0.999) and d (0.999) values and lower MAE (0.167) and RMSE (0.456) values. The R values of the MLR model fluctuated between 0.226 and 0.960, the d values oscillated from 0.174 to 0.979, the MAE values were in the range of 2.458% and 10.792%, and the RMSE values fluctuated from 2.923% to 13.393%. Furthermore, the study revealed that WS and WD are the most influential climatic parameters. The ANN model can be used to develop more accurate tools for predicting the CUC of sprinkler irrigation systems. This can help farmers to design and operate their irrigation systems more efficiently, which can save them time and money.

A comprehensive study spanning three kharif and rabi seasons (2018–2019, 2020–2021, and 2021–2022) was conducted to investigate the intricate interactions among different cropping sequences and their impacts on cumin yield, financial outcomes, and soil microbial dynamics. The experiment was designed using a randomized block design, comprising eight distinct treatment combinations, each replicated three times. The results revealed compelling insights into the potential of specific cropping sequences to enhance multiple aspects of agricultural sustainability. The results revealed that the highest cumin yield (averaging 592 kg ha−1 over the three years) was achieved when cumin was cultivated subsequent to pearl millet, showcasing significant increases of 14.28% and 23.07% over the cumin–fallow and cumin–cotton cropping systems, respectively. When it came to cumin equivalent yield, the cumin–cotton cropping sequence (985 kg ha−1) emerged as the most favorable, closely followed by cumin–groundnut (968 kg ha−1). Furthermore, analyzing net realizations and benefit–cost ratios demonstrated that the cumin–pearl millet cropping sequence stood out with the maximum values (₹88,235 ha−1 and 2.7, respectively), followed by the cumin–mung bean cropping system (₹84,164 ha−1 and 2.47, respectively). Among the various cropping sequences studied, cumin–mung bean, cumin–cluster bean, cumin–pearl millet and cumin–groundnut were recorded as statistically similar in terms of soil microbial enzymatic activities viz. fluorescein diacetate (FDA), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), dehydrogenase activity (DHA), and microbial biomass carbon and were at par over the cumin–sorghum, cumin–sesame, cumin–cotton and cumin–fallow cropping systems. These findings emphasize the significance of strategic crop sequencing for sustainable agriculture practices that simultaneously optimize productivity and maintain soil health.

Background: Dasatinib, nilotinib, and sorafenib are clinically proven tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) used for the treatment of leukemia and hepatocellular carcinoma. However, there is a growing concern regarding cardiotoxicity associated with their use. The impact of these TKIs on vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) remains unexplored. This study aims to investigate the effects of TKIs on VSMC proliferation and migration, as well as to elucidate the underlying mechanisms involving inflammatory and apoptotic pathways. Methods: VSMCs were extracted from albino rats and cultured in vitro. The cells were divided into four experimental groups: control, dasatinib, sorafenib, and nilotinib. The MTT assay was employed to assess the cytotoxic effects of TKIs on VSMCs. A scratch assay was conducted to evaluate the inhibitory potential of TKIs on VSMC migration. Flow cytometry analysis was used to detect apoptotic cells. Real-Time PCR expression was utilized to determine the differential gene expression of apoptotic and inflammatory markers. Results: Dasatinib, nilotinib, and sorafenib demonstrated significant inhibitory effects on VSMC viability and migration at low concentrations (p < 0.05). Furthermore, gene expression analysis revealed up-regulation of inflammatory biomarkers (TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β) and apoptotic markers (P53, BAX), along with down-regulation of the anti-apoptotic biomarker BCL-2 in response to all TKIs. Conclusions: This study demonstrates that dasatinib, nilotinib, and sorafenib inhibit VSMC proliferation and migration, suggesting their potential to induce vascular injury and remodeling by activating inflammation and apoptosis pathways. These findings highlight the need for further investigation into the cardiotoxic effects of these TKIs and the development of strategies to mitigate their adverse vascular effects.

One of the issues in numerical solution analysis is the non-linear distributed-order fractional Bagley–Torvik differential equation (DO-FBTE) with boundary and initial conditions. We solve the problem by proposing a numerical solution based on the shifted Legendre Gauss–Lobatto (SL-GL) collocation technique. The solution of the DO-FBTE is approximated by a truncated series of shifted Legendre polynomials, and the SL-GL collocation points are employed as interpolation nodes. At the SL-GL quadrature points, the residuals are computed. The DO-FBTE is transformed into a system of algebraic equations that can be solved using any conventional method. A set of numerical examples is used to verify the proposed scheme’s accuracy and compare it to existing findings.

Unified Fracture Design (UFD) bridges the gap between practices and theory in the hydraulic fracturing industry. It represents a technique to design hydraulic fracturing treatment with a particular amount of proppant. This design could provide the maximum fold-of-increase (FOI) in productivity-index (PI) after hydraulic fracturing treatment. The UFD optimization tool is very effective, but it has assumptions like any other model. One assumption of UFD optimization technique; is a single-layer assumption. This assumption does not align with the limited entry fracturing design concept. In limited entry fracturing, the frictional pressure is employed to offset the stress differences between multi-layers reservoirs to attain fluid injection through these layers, intended to deliver an optimal fracture conductivity in all layers. The drawback of this assumption is the underestimation of the actual value of FOI in PI. This paper aims to recast the original unified fracture design approach to extend the optimal UFD to a multilayer reservoir to predict the FOI in PI after limited entry fracturing treatment. The recasting tool for this problem to find the optimum solution is Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). The architected ANN model is based on actual historical data of limited entry fracturing treatments. A statistical comparison between the proposed ANN model and classical UFD technique demonstrates that ANN model solution has a more reliable estimation of FOI in PI with the actual historical data.

In this research, two pellets of titanium dioxide TiO2 were prepared at room temperature. The first was pure titanium dioxide, and the other was doped with silver (2.5%). The pellets were deposited on porous silicon (PSi) with the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique. The results of scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy showed improvements in the surface morphologies of the TiO2/PSi and TiO2@Ag/PSi composites. The composites were then tested as CO2 gas sensors. The electrical measurements of the composites showed a decrease in the electrical resistance of the CO2 gas sensor doped with a metal. Sensitivity to CO2 increased to up to 55% in Ag-doped TiO2 film with a concentration of 2.5%, and the highest sensitivity value was obtained in the pure titanium dioxide film (26%).

One of the important features of generalized distribution is its ability and flexibility to model real-life data in several applied fields such as medicine, engineering, and survival analysis, among others. In this paper, a flexible four-parameter Lomax extension called the alpha-power power-Lomax (APPLx) distribution is introduced. The APPLx distribution is analytically tractable, and it can be used quite effectively for real-life data analysis. Key mathematical properties of the APPLx distribution including mode, moments, stress-strength reliability, quantile and generating functions, and order statistics are presented. The APPEx parameters are estimated by using eight classical estimation methods. Extensive simulation studies are provided to explore the performance of the proposed estimation methods and to provide a guideline for practitioners and engineers to choose the best estimation method. Three real-life datasets from applied fields are fitted to assess empirically the flexibility of the APPLx distribution. The APPLx distribution shows greater flexibility as compared to the McDonal–Lomax, Fréchet Topp–Leone Lomax, transmuted Weibull–Lomax, Kumaraswamy–Lomax, beta exponentiated-Lomax, Weibull–Lomax, Burr-X Lomax, Lomax–Weibull, odd exponentiated half-logistic Lomax, and alpha-power Lomax distributions.

Cucumber grafting has been used in Egypt recently to induce soil diseases tolerance. The impact of various grafting techniques on the vulnerability of grafted cucumber seedlings to Fusarium which stimulates the stem rot was investigated. Consequently, the anatomical and physiological studies were carried out on the diseased and healthy grafted cucumber seedlings, comparing with the non-grafted ones. Fusarium equiseti (MW216971.1) caused a severe stem rot of the grafted seedling through affecting the connection area of the different grafting methods, leading to complete seedling death. The hole insertion grafting method significantly exhibited the highest diseases incidence (100%), and mean disease severity index (5) when inoculated with F. equiseti. The pathogen remarkably affected the graft union area causing tissue discoloration and decay. The levels of antioxidant enzymes and total phenols were significantly enhanced in the diseased grafted and self-rooted cucumber. However, the diseased grafted cucumber recorded significantly the highest values of the antioxidant enzymes activities and total phenolic content when compared with the self-rooted ones. The results of SDS-PAGE profile revealed variations in the leaves protein profile of the grafted and self- rooted seedlings in response to Fusarium infection. Taken together, grafting cucumber onto a resistant rootstock using the splice technique can alleviate the stem rot severity caused by Fusarium spp. by enhancing the histological, physiological and molecular defense response of the grafted seedling.

In this article, a new two-parameter discrete power-Ailamujia (DsPA) distribution is derived using the survival discretization technique. Some key distributional properties and reliability measures are explored in closed forms, such as probability generating function, first four moments and mean residual life. The DsPA parameters are estimated using the maximum likelihood approach. The performance of this estimation method is assessed via a simulation study. The flexibility of the DsPA distribution is shown using three count datasets. The DsPA distribution provides a better fit than some recent discrete models such as the discrete Burr-Ⅻ, uniform Poisson–Ailamujia, Poisson, discrete-Pareto, discrete-Rayleigh, discrete inverse-Rayleigh, and discrete Burr–Hutke distributions.

In this paper, a flexible version of the Fréchet distribution called the extended Weibull–Fréchet (EWFr) distribution is proposed. Its failure rate has a decreasing shape, an increasing shape, and an upside-down bathtub shape. Its density function can be a symmetric shape, an asymmetric shape, a reversed-J shape and J shape. Some mathematical properties of the EWFr distribution are explored. The EWFr parameters are estimated using several frequentist estimation approaches. The performance of these methods is addressed using detailed simulations. Furthermore, the best approach for estimating the EWFr parameters is determined based on partial and overall ranks. Finally, the performance of the EWFr distribution is studied using two real-life datasets from the medicine and engineering sciences. The EWFr distribution provides a superior fit over other competing Fréchet distributions such as the exponentiated-Fréchet, beta-Fréchet, Lomax–Fréchet, and Kumaraswamy Marshall–Olkin Fréchet.

Background There are many surgical approaches which described extent of resection of the colon for adequate surgical management of splenic flexure cancer, but up till now there is no established surgical procedure, this is because the presence of double lymphatic drainage of the mesenteric vessels. Segmental resection of the colon for the management of splenic flexure cancer was a recently accepted surgical procedure. Objective In the present study, we aimed to compare three surgical management techniques to clarify the best management approach of Egyptian patients with splenic flexure cancer regarding operative, clinical, and oncological outcomes: segmental resection, and extended left or right hemicolectomy,. Materials and Methods In the present study, we included 90 patients with splenic flexure cancer. Cases were divided into 3 groups. Each group included 30 patients in order to compare three surgical techniques: segmental resection, extended left hemicolectomy, and extended right hemicolectomy. Results We have found no statistically significant differences between the three included groups regarding operative findings, postoperative complications, local recurrence, distant recurrence, disease progression, recurrence-free survival rate, progression-free survival rate, and overall survival rate. Imbalanced use (form, quantity, and ratio) of nitrogen fertilization can result in decreased grain yields and increased nitrogen loss, leading to adverse effects on overall environmental quality. Globally, limited empirical research has been conducted on the comprehensive effects of different levels of N that can significantly influence wheat agronomic and genotypic traits. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate wheat genotypes for two consecutive years (2020–2021 and 2021–2022) under different N fertilization treatments: N0 (native N, without external application of N), N75 (½ of the recommended dose of N), and N150 (recommended dose of N). The study findings revealed that ‘HD 3249’ and ‘HD 3117’ were the top-performing genotypes in terms of grain yield (5.3 t ha−1; 5.0 t ha−1), straw yield (6.9 t ha−1; 6.7 t ha−1), biological yield (12.2 t ha−1; 11.8 t ha−1), and harvest index (42.9%; 42.4%). In particular, the application of N75 and N150 increased grain yields by 142.6% and 61.3%, respectively; straw yields by 72.3%; and by 110.6% over N0. Furthermore, N levels (N75 and 150) significantly increased the higher concentration of N in grain (23.1% and 33%) and straw (21.1% and 29.8%); N uptake in grain (70.2 and 104.2) and straw (64.8 and 41.5); and total N uptake (68.8% and 101.4%) than N0, respectively. Additionally, correlation analysis revealed that there were positive correlations between yields, harvest index as well as N concentration and uptake. This study identified the two elite genotypes, ‘HD 3249’ and ‘HD 3117’, with N150 splits giving a better response, which can be used as selection criteria for developing wheat varieties that are more efficient in using nitrogen, leading to high yields and N uptake.

Burning of agricultural residues, cultivation of single crop varieties such as rice (Oryza sativa L.) and wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), and traditional soil tillage practices collectively contribute to the degradation of environmental quality, water systems, and soil resources. To address these issues, conservation agriculture (CA)-based crop management practice has emerged as one of the viable options. The current study was conducted with the aim to evaluate the effect of CA and weed management (WM) practices on carbon dynamics and biochemical properties of soil. The experiment included two factors, viz., CA and WM practices. The CA levels vary from conventional agriculture to partial CA (pCA1, pCA2, and pCA3) and full CA, while WM had three levels consisting of chemical control, integrated weed management, and weedy check. The results demonstrated that soil organic carbon (SOC) under the full CA treatment, was 30.6, 23.5, and 20.6 percent higher than conventional agriculture (T1), partial CA1, and partial CA2 practices, respectively. Similarly, labile fractions of carbon, KMnO4-C MBC, WSOC, and POC, in full CA increased by 46.3, 52.3, 152.4, and 15.6 percent, respectively, over conventional agriculture. Nonetheless, the total organic carbon exhibited no significant impact. The highest SOC stock was sequestered under full CA treatment, which was higher by 26.5 to 40.6 per cent than the rest of the CA treatments. Among biological properties, full CA resulted in 104.3 and 40.6 percent higher dehydrogenase and alkaline phosphatase activity than conventional agriculture. The impact of weed management practices was significant for KMnO4-C, with very labile carbon and alkaline phosphatase activity only in the surface soil layer. Soil quality index (SQI) followed the decreasing order as full CA (0.94) > partial CA3 (0.88) > partial CA2 (0.78) partial CA1 (0.77) > conventional agriculture (0.67) under different CA treatments, whereas WM followed herbicide (0.82) > weedy check (0.81) > IWM (0.80). The current study offered incredible information on soil carbon and biological indicators to monitor soil quality changes in rice–wheat cropping systems in response to conservation agriculture practices.

Optimizing nitrogen (N) inputs is crucial for maximizing wheat yield and ensuring environmental sustainability. Wheat’s economic significance in India calls for a comprehensive evaluation of its ecological implications to develop a resilient production system. This study aimed to identify and evaluate ten wheat cultivars for their yield and N-use efficiency under varying nitrogen inputs (control (N0), half of the recommended nitrogen (N75), and the recommended nitrogen (N150)) using the surface application of neem-oil-coated urea. All N inputs were applied in three splits, basal, crown root initiation, and tillering stages, and an experiment was conducted in a split-plot design. The application of N150 gave the highest dry matter accumulation (DMA) at harvesting stage (AHS) (871 g m−2), seed/spike (60), grain yield (GY = 7.4 t ha−1), straw yield (SY = 8.9 t ha−1), harvest index (HI = 45.2%), protein (12.5%), and total uptake of N (TUN) (223 kg ha−1) by the cultivar ‘HD 3249’, being closely followed by the cultivar ‘HD3117’. Six cultivars (‘HD 3298’, ‘HD 3117’, ‘HD 3249’, ‘PBW 550’, ‘HD 3086’, ‘HD 2967’) out of the ten cultivars evaluated responded well to different input treatments with respect to the grain yield efficiency index (GYEI ≥ 1). Regarding N input, N75 and N150 recorded the highest increases in plant height, AHS (16.5%; 21.2%), dry matter accumulation (DMA) at 30 days after sowing (DAS) (37.5%; 64%), DMA-60 DAS (42%; 53%), DMA-90 DAS (39.5%; 52.5%), TILL-30 DAS (19.8%; 26.4%), TILL-60 DAS (33.3%; 44%), TILL-90 DAS (37.2%; 47.2%), seed/spike (8%; 10%), 1000-grain weight (7.8%; 12.2%), and protein content (23.3%; and 33%) when compared with N0. Furthermore, the application of N75 and N150 improved GY (72.1%; 142.6%), SY (61.1%; 110.6%), BY (65.5%; 123%), and HI by 4.4% and 9%, respectively, over N0. Nitrogen addition (N75 and N150) also significantly increased total nitrogen uptake (104.7%; 205.6%), respectively, compared to N0. The correlation analysis revealed a positive association among most of the crop parameters. Overall, our research results suggest that the cultivars ‘HD 3249’ and ‘HD 3117’ have the potential to be effective options for improving N utilization efficiency, grain yield, and GYEI in North-West India.

Abstract Background Cough hypersensitivity is a major characteristic feature associated with several types of cough, including chronic cough, but its underlying mechanisms remain to be fully understood. Inflammatory mediators, such as prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), have been implicated in both peripheral induction and sensitization of the cough reflex. In this study, using a conscious guinea pig model of cough, we investigated whether PGE2 can sensitize the cough reflex via central actions and, if so, via which mechanisms. Methods All drugs were administered by intracerebroventricular (i.c.v.) route and whole-body plethysmograph set-up was used for both induction, using aerosolized citric acid (0.2 M), and recording of cough. Immunohistochemistry was performed to confirm the expression of NaV 1.8 channels in the nucleus tractus solitarius (nTS). Results We show that both PGE2 and the non-selective EP1/EP3 agonist, sulprostone, dose-dependently enhanced the citric acid-induced cough (P ≤ 0.001, P ≤ 0.01, respectively). Pretreatment with the EP1 antagonist, ONO-8130, did not affect the sulprostone-induced cough sensitization, whilst the EP3 antagonist, L-798,106, dose-dependently inhibited this effect (P ≤ 0.05). Furthermore, treatment with either the EP2 agonist, butaprost or the EP4 agonist, L-902,688, had no effect on cough sensitization. Additionally, pretreatment with either the TRPV1 antagonist, JNJ-17203212 or the TRPA1 antagonist, HC-030031, alone or in combination, nor with the NaV 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.6 and 1.7 channel blocker, tetrodotoxin, had any effect on the cough. In contrast, pretreatment with the NaV 1.8 antagonist, A-803467, dose-dependently inhibited this effect (P ≤ 0.05). Furthermore, NaV 1.8 channels were shown to be expressed in the nTS. Conclusion Collectively, our findings show that PGE2 sensitizes the cough reflex centrally via EP3 receptor-dependent activation of NaV 1.8 but independently of TRPV1,TRPA1 and TTX-sensitive sodium channel activation. These results indicate that PGE2 plays an important role in central sensitization of the cough reflex and suggest that central EP3 receptors and/or NaVv 1.8 channels may represent novel antitussive molecular targets. We come up with a new class called log-logistic tan generalized family which provides sub-models with left skewed, symmetrical, right skewed, unimodal, bimodal and reversed-J densities, and increasing, decreasing, modified bathtub, bathtub, unimodal, reversed-J shaped, and J-shaped hazard rates. Some of its sub-models are provided along with some general structural properties. The parameter estimation has been conducted via maximum likelihood. Moreover, the estimators behavior are assessed using various simulation results. The capability of the log-logistic tan-Weibull model is proved using two real-life data sets. It provides higher quality fit than competing Weibull extensions, among others.

Fifteen azo dyes were subjected to microbial degradation by four fungal strains and their mixtures as well as five bacterial strains and their mixtures. The biodegradation efficiency was determined by LC/MS/MS analysis. The most active bacterial strain was B. subtilis, where it showed the highest biodegradation capacity (71.8% to 100%) of eight azo dyes. Bacterial strain B. brevis came next to it. However, the consortium of the five bacterial strains gave lower degradation percentages. On the other hand, the fungal strains and their consortium were more potent in biodegradation of all tested azo dyes, where ten azo dyes were completely (100%) degraded by the consortium. Two of widely used azo dyes, direct violet and methyl red, were further studied in relation to the intermediate biodegradation products by each of the tested fungi and bacteria as well as the bacterial and fungal consortia using GC/MS/MS. The major biodegradation product of methyl red was 2-amino benzoic acid by all of the tested bacterial strains and A. niger, while the major biodegradation products of direct violet by both bacteria and fungi were ethanol, 2(2-butyxyethoxy), followed by 4- methyl benzoic acid and phenol, 2,4-bis (1,1-dimethyl ethyl). The results of this study suggest the successful use of the four fungal consortium for the biodegradation of the azo dyes. These findings are important to design bioremediation technology for treating the azo dye residues.

Shwachman-Diamond syndrome (SDS) is a leukemia predisposition disorder that is caused by defective release of eIF6 during ribosome assembly. Here the authors show that acquired somatic EIF6 mutations are frequent in the hematopoietic cells from individuals with SDS and provide a selective advantage over non-modified cells.

Background: Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality, especially for the elderly and people who suffer from chronic conditions. This study was conducted to assess the clinical and microbiological characteristics and disease outcomes associated with the occurrence of CAP. Methods: This retrospective chart review was conducted at King Abdulaziz Medical City, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Cases with documented clinical diagnosis of CAP during the period from 2016 to 2019 were included. Data were collected on demographic, clinical, and microbiological characteristics, used antimicrobials and patients’ outcomes, including length of hospital stay, intensive care unit admission, and mortality. Multivariate regression analysis was performed to identify risk factors for increased length of hospital stay. Results: A total of two hundred and eighteen CAP episodes were identified. Patients had a median age of 64.5 years, and 54.1% were males. Microbiological diagnosis was established in 33 patients (15.1%). Admission to ICU and diagnosis of a neurological disease were significantly associated with longer hospital stay (>7 days). An average of 2.7 antimicrobials were used per patient, and the most common antibiotics used were Piperacillin/Tazobactam (46.3%), Doxycycline (44%), then Ceftriaxone (42.7%). Four patients (1.8%) died during hospital stay. Conclusions: This retrospective analysis of CAP cases identified a lack of microbiological diagnosis and increased burden associated with disease severity and the need for hospitalization. The ability to identify CAP at an earlier stage will be a cornerstone to mitigate its impact on the healthcare system and ICU units.

Wheat crop has to compete with several weeds including Avena fatua, a noxious weed that alone is responsible for 30–70% losses in the yield annually. Because of the environmental concerns associated with conventional methods, researchers are on a continuous hunt to find clean alternatives in order to manage weeds. Fungi have shown promising weedicide potential in lab studies. The current study aimed to isolate endophytic fungi from wheat plants which can promote wheat growth and inhibit the growth of common weed, A. fatua. Of several isolates, GW (grayish white) was selected for its promising features, and the strain was identified as Fusarium oxisporum through ITS sequencing technique. This fungus released a number of compounds including Isovitexin, Calycosin, quercetagetin, and dihydroxy-dimethoxyisoflavone that inhibited the growth of A. fatua but did not influence the growth of wheat seedlings. Biomass of this fungus in the soil also reduced growth parameters of the weed and promoted the growth of wheat. For instance, the vigor index of A. fatua seedlings was reduced to only 6% of the control by this endophyte. In contrast, endophyte-associated wheat seedlings showed a higher vigor index than the control. Behind this differential response of the two plants were their contrasting physiological and biochemical status. Lower growth phenotypes of A. fatua seedlings had reduced levels of IAA, GAs, and SA and higher the levels of JA and ABA. Besides, their ROS scavenging ability was also compromised as evident from relatively lower activities of catalase, peroxidase, and ascorbic acid oxidase, as well as higher accumulation of ROS in their leaves. Wheat seedlings response to GW was opposite to the A. fatua. It may be concluded that F. oxysporum GW has the ability to differentially modulate physiology and biochemistry of the two hosts leading to contrasting phenotypic responses.

A new one-parameter discrete length-biased exponential distribution called the discrete moment exponential (DMEx) distribution is introduced using the survival discretizing approach. We derive the reliability measures including survival function, hazard function, residual reliability function, and the second rate of failure function. Further, the mathematical properties of the DMEx distribution are derived. The parameters of the DMEx distribution are estimated using seven estimation methods. A simulation study is carried out to explore the behavior of the proposed estimators. It is observed that the maximum likelihood approach provides efficient estimates. Finally, the DMEx is adopted for fitting the number of COVID-19 deaths in China and Europe countries. It is shown that the DMEx distribution fits the data better than other competing discrete distributions.

In this article, a new hybrid time series model is proposed to predict COVID-19 daily confirmed cases and deaths. Due to the variations and complexity in the data, it is very difficult to predict its future trajectory using linear time series or mathematical models. In this research article, a novel hybrid ensemble empirical mode decomposition and error trend seasonal (EEMD-ETS) model has been developed to forecast the COVID-19 pandemic. The proposed hybrid model decomposes the complex, nonlinear, and nonstationary data into different intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) from low to high frequencies, and a single monotone residue by applying EEMD. The stationarity of each IMF component is checked with the help of the augmented Dicky–Fuller (ADF) test and is then used to build up the EEMD-ETS model, and finally, future predictions have been obtained from the proposed hybrid model. For illustration purposes and to check the performance of the proposed model, four datasets of daily confirmed cases and deaths from COVID-19 in Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom (UK), and France have been used. Similarly, four different statistical metrics, i.e., root mean square error (RMSE), symmetric mean absolute parentage error (sMAPE), mean absolute error (MAE), and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) have been used for a comparison of different time series models. It is evident from the results that the proposed hybrid EEMD-ETS model outperforms the other time series and machine learning models. Hence, it is worthy to be used as an effective model for the prediction of COVID-19.

We define a new extended Weibull-H family and obtain some of its mathematical properties. It is very competitive to the beta-G and Kumaraswamy-G classes, which are highly cited in Google Scholar. The parameters of a specified sub-model are estimated by eight methods and its flexibility is proved in two applications to COVID-19 data.

Dasatinib (DASA) is a novel tyrosine kinase inhibitor, approved for leukemia treatment. However, the long-term use of DASA induces several complications, especially liver damage. On the other hand, Naringenin (NGN) is a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent which is known to exert protective effects in several liver disease animal models. Yet, the effect of NGN on DASA-induced hepatotoxicity has not been examined. This study investigated the hepatoprotective effects of NGN against DASA-induced acute liver injury, using a mouse model. The mice were given NGN (50, 100, and 200 mg/kg po) or saline for 7 days, followed by DASA on the eighth day (25 mg/kg p.o.). DASA treatment alone was found to cause overexpression of proinflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin-10 (IL-10), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and malonyl aldehyde (MDA), whereas attenuation of antioxidant genes including superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione S-transferase (GST), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx). Interestingly, a pretreatment with NGN + DASA resulted in minimizing the proinflammatory mediators and restoring the levels of antioxidant genes. In addition, there was evidence of necro-inflammatory changes in histopathological findings in the liver samples after DASA administration which remarkably reduced with NGN + DASA. Thus, this study revealed that NGN could minimize the hepatotoxicity induced by DASA by providing anti-inflammatory and antioxidant protection.

Persistent challenges complicating the treatment of breast cancer remain, despite some recent undeniable successes. Sufficient evidence currently exists demonstrating the crucial role of inflammation, characterized by the enhanced activation of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and the COX-2/PGE2 pathway, in the migration and proliferation of breast cancer cells. Interestingly, the store-operated calcium entry (SOCE) pathway was shown to be essential for the TLR4 activity and COX-2 expression in immune cells such as macrophages and microglia. However, whether SOCE influences inflammatory signaling and the inflammation-induced proliferation and migration of breast cancer cells is still unknown. Thus, the current study intended to delineate the role of SOCE in the TLR4-induced inflammation, migration, and proliferation of breast cancer cells. To this end, MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells were treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to activate TLR4, BTP2 to inhibit SOCE, and Thapsigargin to induce SOCE. Following these treatments, several experiments were conducted to evaluate the proliferation and migration rates of the MDA-MB-231 cells and the expression of several inflammatory and oncogenic genes, including COX-2, PGE2, IL-6, IL-8, and VEGF. Different techniques were used to achieve the aims of this study, including qRT-PCR, Western blotting, ELISA, MTT, and wound healing assays. This study shows that SOCE inhibition using BTP2 suppressed the LPS-induced migration and proliferation of breast cancer cells. Additionally, treatment with LPS caused approximately six- and three-fold increases in COX-2 mRNA and protein expression, respectively, compared to the controls. The LPS-induced elevations in the COX-2 mRNA and protein levels were suppressed by BTP2 to the control levels. In addition to its effect on COX-2, BTP2 also suppressed the LPS-induced productions of PGE2, IL-6, IL-8, and VEGF. Conversely, SOCE induction using Thapsigargin enhanced the LPS-induced inflammation, migration, and proliferation of breast cancer cells. Collectively, these results provide evidence for the potentially important role of SOCE in inflammation-induced breast cancer progression processes. Thus, we argue that the current study may provide novel targets for designing new therapeutic approaches for the treatment of breast cancer.

This work describes an ab initio principle computational examination of the optical, structural, elastic, electronic and mechanical characteristics of aluminum-based compounds AlRF3 (R = N, P) halide-perovskites. For optimization purposes, we used the Birch–Murnaghan equation of state and discovered that the compounds AlNF3 and AlPF3 are both structurally stable. The IRelast software was used to compute elastic constants (ECs) of the elastic properties. The aforementioned compounds are stable mechanically. They exhibit strong resistance to plastic strain, possess ductile nature and anisotropic behavior and are scratch-resistant. The modified Becke–Johnson (Tb-mBJ) approximation was adopted to compute various physical properties, revealing that AlNF3 and AlPF3 are both metals in nature. From the density of states, the support of various electronic states in the band structures are explained. Other various optical characteristics have been calculated from the investigations of the band gap energy of the aforementioned compounds. These compounds absorb a significant amount of energy at high levels. At low energy levels, the compound AlNF3 is transparent to incoming photons, whereas the compound AlPF3 is somewhat opaque. The examination of the visual details led us to the deduction that the compounds AlNF3 and AlPF3 may be used in making ultraviolet devices based on high frequency. This computational effort is being made for the first time in order to investigate the aforementioned properties of these chemicals, which have yet to be confirmed experimentally.

Numerous investigations on plant ethnomedicinal applications have been conducted; however, knowledge about the medicinal use of wild animals is still limited. This present study is the second on the medicinal and cultural meaning of avian and mammalian species used by the population in the surrounding area of the Ayubia National Park, KPK, Pakistan. Interviews and meetings were compiled from the participants (N = 182) of the study area. The relative frequency of citation, fidelity level, relative popularity level, and rank order priority indices were applied to analyze the information. Overall, 137 species of wild avian and mammalian species were documented. Of these, 18 avian and 14 mammalian species were utilized to treat different diseases. The present research showed noteworthy ethno-ornithological and ethno-mammalogical knowledge of local people and their connection with fauna, which might be useful in the sustainable utilization of the biological diversity of the Ayubia National Park, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Furthermore, in vivo and/or in vitro examination of the pharmacological activities of species with the highest fidelity level (FL%) as well as frequency of mention (FM) might be important for investigations on faunal-based new drugs.

The distribution of large ungulates is more often negatively impacted by the changing climate, especially global warming and species with limited distributional zones. While developing conservation action plans for the threatened species such as the Himalayan goral (Naemorhedus goral Hardwicke 1825; a mountain goat that mostly inhabits rocky cliffs), it is imperative to comprehend how future distributions might vary based on predicted climate change. In this work, MaxEnt modeling was employed to assess the habitat suitability of the target species under varying climate scenarios. Such studies have provided highly useful information but to date no such research work has been conducted that considers this endemic animal species of the Himalayas. A total of 81 species presence points, 19 bioclimatic and 3 topographic variables were employed in the species distribution modeling (SDM), and MaxEnt calibration and optimization were performed to select the best candidate model. For predicted climate scenarios, the future data is drawn from SSPs 245 and SSPs 585 of the 2050s and 2070s. Out of total 20 variables, annual precipitation, elevation, precipitation of driest month, slope aspect, minimum temperature of coldest month, slope, precipitation of warmest quarter, and temperature annual range (in order) were detected as the most influential drivers. A high accuracy value (AUC-ROC > 0.9) was observed for all the predicted scenarios. The habitat suitability of the targeted species might expand (about 3.7 to 13%) under all the future climate change scenarios. The same is evident according to local residents as species which are locally considered extinct in most of the area, might be shifting northwards along the elevation gradient away from human settlements. This study recommends additional research is conducted to prevent potential population collapses, and to identify other possible causes of local extinction events. Our findings will aid in formulating conservation plans for the Himalayan goral in a changing climate and serve as a basis for future monitoring of the species.

In the present study, pure, Co, Gd, and Co/Gd di-doped ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized via the co-precipitation synthesis route. The prepared samples were characterized through different techniques such as the X-ray diffraction method (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV-Vis spectroscopy, photoluminescence (PL)spectroscopy, and an impedance analyzer and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The XRD pattern shows ZnO’s wurtzite hexagonal crystal structure; moreover, the shifting of characteristic peaks toward the lower angle indicates the inclusion of Co and Co/Gd in the ZnO host lattice. SEM micrographs show various morphologies such as rods, the agglomeration of particles, and spherical nanoparticles. The UV-Vis spectroscopy reveals that the absorption increased in the visible region and there was a substantial redshift for the doped samples. The bandgap decreased from 3.34 to 3.18 eV for the doped samples. The PL spectra show near-edge and inter-band transitions; the origin of inter-band transitions is attributed to the defect states present within the bands. The dielectric constant is strongly frequency dependent and decreases with Co and Co/Gd doping, while the electrical conductivity increases. A VSM study indicates that pure ZnO is diamagnetic, while the Co and Co/Gd doped ZnO nanoparticles showed ferromagnetic behavior. Under UV-visible light irradiation, the Co/Gd-ZnO nanoparticles showed higher photocatalytic activity than the ZnO nanoparticles. The enhanced photocatalytic activity may be attributed to a decreased bandgap with doping.

PURPOSE. Purpose of the Work - To build a hybrid solar power plant and a gas turbine plant (ISCC), several important elements must be available. Making a decision in principle to build a hybrid power plant and determining its optimal location requires an analysis of many factors in Iraq. Iraq is a region rich in solar energy. Solar energy potential from an area of 437,072 km2 exceeds the current demand for electricity by hundreds of thousands of times. This will help Iraq to remain an energy exporter in the future by switching from fossil fuels to solar energy. METHOD- Determines the relevance of research in this area, namely the development of a multivariate mathematical model for finding the optimal location of a ISCC using the method of paired comparisons using the MATLAB program. RESULTS - Province Albasra is characterized by a significantly higher level of electricity consumption in the region, as well as a more developed infrastructure. This, in general, predetermines the highest final rating among all the provinces of Iraq as the optimal region for the location of a ISCC. CONCLUSION- Using the proposed mathematical model, a rating was calculated and a comparison was made of the provinces of Iraq to determine the best region for placing such ISCC. This mathematical model can be used for further localization of the solution to the problem, for example, when considering the best conditions for the construction of a hybrid power plant already within a province, etc.

BACKGROUND There is currently limited literature addressing the reporting of alopecia in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients treated with disease-modifying therapies (DMTs). Anecdotal reports of hair thinning from patients on various DMTs prompted further investigation of a large database. OBJECTIVE To analyze total reports, source of reporting, age distribution, and sex distribution of alopecia associated with DMTs. METHODS FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) public dashboard and OpenFDA database were analyzed for alopecia reports between January 1, 2009, and June 30, 2020, attributed to usage in MS of FDA approved DMTs. The main outcomes included total reports for each drug, age, sex distribution, and reporting source. OpenFDA data was used for statistical analyses including reporting odds ratios (ROR) and information components. RESULTS 8759 alopecia reports were identified among 44 114 adverse events in skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders (19.9%). 3701 (42.3%) with teriflunomide, 1675 (19.1%) with dimethyl fumarate, 985 (11.2%) with natalizumab, 926 (10.6%) with fingolimod, 659 (7.5%) with interferon beta-1a, 257 (2.9%) with glatiramer acetate, 243 (2.8%) with ocrelizumab, 124 (1.4%) with interferon beta-1b, 117 (1.3%) with alemtuzumab, 36 (.4%) with siponimod, 24 (.3%) with cladribine, and 12 (.1%) with rituximab. Reports were mostly made by patients (78.3%) and highest in fifth and sixth decades of life. OpenFDA analyses showed increased ROR (ROR 95% confidence interval) of alopecia in females with teriflunomide (18.00, 17.12-18.93), alemtuzumab (1.43, 1.16-1.76), dimethyl fumarate (1.26, 1.18-1.34), and ocrelizumab (1.28, 1.11-1.49). Increased ROR in males was associated with teriflunomide (24.65, 20.72-29.31). CONCLUSION We identified many reports of alopecia for DMTs in addition to teriflunomide. Within the limitations of the database, increased RORs of alopecia were observed for females treated with alemtuzumab, dimethyl fumarate, and ocrelizumab. The source of reporting was largely driven by female patients. Possible alopecia, even if transient, should be considered during patient education when starting DMTs.

This article introduces a new three-parameter Marshall-Olkin Burr-R (MOB-R) family which extends the generalize Burr-G class. Some of its general properties are discussed. One of its special models called the MOB-Lomax distribution is studied in detail for illustrative purpose. A modified chi-square test statistic is provided for right censored data from the MOB-L distribution. The model parameters are estimated via the maximum likelihood and simulation results are obtained to assess the behavior of the maximum likelihood approach. Applications to real data sets are provided to show the usefulness of the proposed MOB-Lomax distribution. The modified chi-square test statistic shows that the MOB-Lomax model can be used as a good candidate for analyzing real censored data.

The integration of photovoltaic and battery energy storage systems into utility grids is favorable for electricity customers, especially for high consumption load patterns due to the high electricity bill. To increase the annual bill savings and decrease the dependency on the utility grid, a procedure of optimally sizing the PV battery system is presented in this paper. A MATLAB-based code of the genetic algorithm is used to maximize the system self-sufficiency and minimize the discounted payback period while guaranteeing the system profitability. The optimization technique is introduced under the time-of-use tariff structure for residential prosumers in two scenarios. The first introduces a sellback energy price equal to the off-peak energy price, and the second introduces a sellback energy price equal to the on-peak energy price. The economic and technical effects of this optimization are described and analyzed. The effect of PV system capital cost, battery capital cost, and discount rate variations is evaluated by sensitivity analysis. The results indicate that for a sellback price equal to the off-peak price, a minimum discounted payback period can be achieved by installing the maximum PV system size without batteries, and it is reduced to half of its value for a sellback price equal to the on-peak price at the same PV system capacity. For a sellback price equal to the off-peak price, the minimum DPBP of 5.8 years can be achieved by installing a 20 kWp PV system without batteries with 47% self-sufficiency and 2.4 years for a sellback price equal to the on-peak price by installing the same system capacity. The proposed approach highlights that increasing the battery size leads to high self-sufficiency without a considerable decrease in the annual bill savings that encourage customers to invest in the PV battery system.

We propose a new flexible class called the Marshall-Olkin odd Burr III family for generating continuous distributions and derive some of its statistical properties. We provide three special models which accommodate symmetrical, right-skewed and left-skewed shaped densities as well as bathtub, decreasing, increasing, reversed-J shaped and upside-down bathtub failure rate functions. The parameters are estimated by maximum likelihood, least squares and a percentile method. Some simulations investigate the accuracy of the three methods. We illustrate the utility of a special model through three applications to engineering field.

Modern nanotechnology encompasses every field of life. Nowadays, phytochemically fabricated nanoparticles are being widely studied for their bioactivities and biosafety. The present research studied the synthesis, characterization, stability, biocompatibility, and in vitro bioactivities of calcium oxide nanoparticles (CaONPs). The CaONPs were synthesized using Citrullus colocynthis ethanolic fruit extracts. Greenly synthesized nanoparticles had an average size of 35.93 ± 2.54 nm and showed an absorbance peak at 325 nm. An absorbance peak in this range depicts the coating of phenolic acids, flavones, flavonols, and flavonoids on the surface of CaONPs. The XRD pattern showed sharp peaks that illustrated the preferred cubic crystalline nature of triturate. A great hindrance to the use of nanoparticles in the field of medicine is their extremely reactive nature. The FTIR analysis of the CaONPs showed a coating of phytochemicals on their surface, due to which they showed great stability. The vibrations present at 3639 cm−1 for alcohols or phenols, 2860 cm−1 for alkanes, 2487 cm−1 for alkynes, 1625 cm−1 for amines, and 1434 cm−1 for carboxylic acids and aldehydes show adsorption of phytochemicals on the surface of CaONPs. The CaONPs were highly stable over time; however, their stability was slightly disturbed by varying salinity and pH. The dialysis membrane in vitro release analysis revealed consistent nanoparticle release over a 10-h period. The bioactivities of CaONPs, C. colocynthis fruit extracts, and their synergistic solution were assessed. Synergistic solutions of both CaONPs and C. colocynthis fruit extracts showed great bioactivity and biosafety. The synergistic solution reduced cell viability by only 14.68% and caused only 16% hemolysis. The synergistic solution inhibited Micrococcus luteus slightly more effectively than streptomycin, with an activity index of 1.02. It also caused an 83.87% reduction in free radicals.

Biomimicry, as a field of science, is mainly defined as a solution for design problems inspired by natural models, systems, and elements. For the built environment, using nature as a guide can enhance sustainability or even go beyond that and generate a regenerative approach. This is important in the building sector to evolve towards a sustainable and circular economy and reduce CO2 emissions in terms of energy-use. While several biomimicry-related keywords exist, scholars and practitioners in architecture have given varying interpretations to the term biomimicry depending on the use and goal. There has been increasing interest in biomimicry in architecture (BIA), yet the field has become more fragmented. This study aims to highlight differences and similarities through an extended literature survey and analysis that explores case studies, classification systems, and methodological frameworks related to biomimicry in architecture as a way to contribute to reduce the fragmentation in the field. To provide the necessary context and avoid confusion regarding the many concepts and terms that refer to nature-based design, biomimicry-related keywords and interpretations of the word biomimicry are first clarified. Ultimately, the discussion is an integrative effort at defining the field, and highlights the significance and impact of employing BIA in terms of sustainability and usability, as well as showcasing the opportunities for further research.

This study aims to review the available data regarding the central role of immunity in combating SARS-CoV-2 infection and in the generation of protection by vaccination against COVID-19 in different age groups. Physiologically, the immune response and the components involved in it are variable, both functionally and quantitatively, in neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and adults. These immunological differences are mirrored during COVID-19 infection and in the post-vaccination period. The outcome of SARS-CoV-2 infection is greatly dependent on the reaction orchestrated by the immune system. This is clearly obvious in relation to the clinical status of COVID-19 infection, which can be symptomless, mild, moderate, or severe. Even the complications of the disease show a proportional pattern in relation to the immune response. On the contrary, the commonly used anti-COVID-19 vaccines generate protective humoral and cellular immunity. The magnitude of this immunity and the components involved in it are discussed in detail. Furthermore, many of the adverse effects of these vaccines can be explained on the basis of immune reactions against the different components of the vaccines. Regarding the appropriate choice of vaccine for different age groups, many factors have to be considered. This is a cornerstone, particularly in the following age groups: 1 day to 5 years, 6 to 11 years, and 12 to 17 years. Many factors are involved in deciding the route, doses, and schedule of vaccination for children. Another important issue in this dilemma is the hesitancy of families in making the decision about whether to vaccinate their children. Added to these difficulties is the choice by health authorities and governments concerning whether to make children’s vaccination compulsory. In this respect, although rare and limited, adverse effects of vaccines in children have been detected, some of which, unfortunately, have been serious or even fatal. However, to achieve comprehensive control over COVID-19 in communities, both children and adults have to be vaccinated, as the former group represents a reservoir for viral transmission. The understanding of the various immunological mechanisms involved in SARS-CoV-2 infection and in the preparation and application of its vaccines has given the sciences a great opportunity to further deepen and expand immunological knowledge. This will hopefully be reflected positively on other diseases through gaining an immunological background that may aid in diagnosis and therapy. Humanity is still in continuous conflict with SARS-CoV-2 infection and will be for a while, but the future is expected to be in favor of the prevention and control of this disease.

This paper proposes a wideband ultra-compact implantable antenna for a wireless body area network (WBAN). The proposed patch antenna works in the industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) bands. The proposed patch antenna with an ultra-compact size (5 × 5 × 0.26 mm3) was designed with 29% wide bandwidth (about 670 MHz). This wide bandwidth makes the antenna unaffected by implantation in different human body parts. The miniaturization process passed many steps by adding many slots with different shapes in the radiating element as well as in the ground plane. A 50 Ω coaxial feeding excites the antenna to maintain matching and low power loss. The specific absorption rate (SAR) was calculated for health considerations. The result was within the standard limits of IEEE organizations and the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNRP). The antenna was tested in tissues with multiple layers (up to seven layers) and at various depths (up to 29 mm). The link margin was calculated, and the proposed antenna enables 100 Kbps of data to be transferred over a distance of 20 m and approximately 1 Mbps over a distance of 7 m. The proposed antenna was fabricated and tested. The measured S11 parameters and the simulated results using the Computer Simulation Technology (CST Studio) simulator were in good agreement.
