A 3D near-field model for a uniform slanted fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is presented. This model, based on antenna theory, allows for the calculation of the radiated near field in the space surrounding a fiber that contains a tilted uniform fiber Bragg grating. Radiation patterns can also be obtained. The model has been successfully checked via experiments. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
