The aim of this bibliometric analysis was to benchmark the publication activities of German university departments of oral and maxillofacial surgery. The publication performance of staff surgeons (chief and consultants), documented by first or last authorship, from 37 German university departments was captured over a 10-year period (January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2019). All publications listed in PubMed were included. Additionally, the Impact Factor (IF) was determined. A total of 213 surgeons were identified, of whom 158 (74.2%) were publishing. The number of publications was 1,777, published in 311 journals. Publication activity ranged from an average of 23.3 publications per staff surgeon in the top-ranked department to 0 publications in the last-ranked. The same trend was observed for the total cumulative IFs (CIFs) per member (range from 56.2 to 0). The most common used journal was the Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery (19.7%), with focus on "dentoalveolar surgery" (24%) and "operative techniques and procedures" (28.3%). Women constituted 19.2% of the staff, contributing to 8.5% of the publications. The publication performance of German university departments of oral and maxillofacial surgery exhibits a high variance, which did not correlate with the number of personnel and could only be explained by different research motivations. Digital service platforms provided by academic support departments in Macao assist academic staff and students in various areas such as registry, student affairs, academic activities, and research. As the number of undergraduate students increases and new departments are established, academic staff often face the challenge of dealing with paperwork that contains similar content but different formats. This situation results in redundancies and a waste of time. This paper presents our endeavors to simplify administrative procedures in higher education by automating restructured documentation and developing secondary file systems. The paper presents two case studies: Scenario One focuses on streamlining the publication system for academic staff who submit papers in different formats. At the same time, Scenario Two aims to simplify the daily paperwork process for academic staff. Both cases involve transforming the distribution of administrative documents, transitioning from a standardized form with guidelines to a customized form with concise tips. This approach allows academic staff to handle only the necessary information, which may not be available in the database or requires verification. Purpose: This research sought to determine if there existed a common set of courses amongst undergraduate leadership degree programs, provide guidance for new program development and program revision, promote discussion about future leadership curriculum development and provide a starting point for developing common leadership curriculum expectations nationally. Design/methodology/approach: Content analysis was performed. Findings: Program course similarities appear to represent the organic development of unofficial common core requirements within undergraduate leadership programs. Further, there appeared to be no significant trend as to which academic department leadership programs were placed. Originality/value: This study identifies commonly occurring classes in traditional leadership degrees, offering insights for the development of new programs and assessment of current leadership degrees. We offer advice to accounting faculty who have a growing level of seniority at their schools. Seniority is accompanied by increasing autonomy, and we encourage senior faculty to use that autonomy to focus their efforts on building up others. We offer recommendations on how to use seniority to positively impact one's department and college by practicing the tenants of servant leadership, and we discuss how this can be accomplished by examining the three facets of a faculty member's job description: research, service, and teaching. Our overarching goal is to encourage senior faculty to help address current challenges in both academia and practice as well as chart a future course that colleagues can follow that will strengthen the role of accounting to better serve society. The pre-research data of mathematics prospective teachers in one of the universities in Bandung showed that the deductive reasoning ability in complex analysis was still not at good level. Beside the cognitive aspect, the affective aspect could be considered too in doing learning process, such as mathematical resilience. This study aims to analyze and identify the correlation between deductive reasoning and mathematical resilience in complex analysis. The research was conducted in one of the mathematics education departments of a university in Bandung. Correlation was the method used in this study. Mathematics prospective teachers were the sample of this research. This study concluded that mathematical deductive reasoning of prospective teachers was on a moderate level, the mathematical resilience of prospective teachers was on the positive category, and there was a significant correlation between deductive reasoning and the mathematical resilience of prospective teachers on a moderate level. This paper presents a qualitative design science study into the interface of an Automated Medical Reporting (AMR) system in order to establish user-centered design principles. AMR has been proposed as a solution to conquer the administrative burden in healthcare to improve patient-doctor contact. In order to expand this vision by including interface design principles without overlooking the usability aspects, a case study was performed within the preoperative screening department of an academic hospital. In this research, the current screening procedures were investigated by a task analysis, a heuristic evaluation of the current Electronic Health Record system, and stakeholder interviews. The preoperative screenings analysis and the findings of the interviews were translated into design choices. Based on these design choices and IT expert feedback, a treatment design in the form of a high-fidelity prototype of an AMR system for preoperative screenings was developed. This treatment was evaluated by conducting think-aloud sessions and a focus group. Based on the evaluations, ten elementary design principles were formulated for the AMR system interface, which have been categorized into four themes: (1) system status visibility, (2) care provider control, (3) consultation traceability, and (4) patient privacy. We also experienced that medical specialists find it hard to envision the future of their workflow using an AMR system, and that many individual preferences exist. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A study was conducted to identify the components of competency in general that are considered important in improving the work efficiency of team of specialists under the organization and personnel department at public universities in Vietnam. Data have been collected through a management questionnaire to team of specialists under the organization and personnel department (n = 106) managerial staff (n = 50), and lecturers and other specialists (n = 245). Analysis of deductive content and statistics of technical description are used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of data, respectively. The results show that there are five important components of competency of specialists under the organization and personnel department that need to be formed, including professional quality, professional competence, consulting competence, competence of planning and implementation organization, competence of self-improvement, and professional development. In addition, there are three groups of complementary competencies, including communication competence, foreign language competence, and information technology competence. The main objective of the article is to identify the components of competency in general that are considered important in improving the work efficiency of team of specialists under the organization and personnel department at public universities in Vietnam. The findings can be used by administrators at public universities as a basis for them to have specific strategies and solutions in the university's team development to meet the requirements of higher educational renovation today. Theology is not solely an academic discipline; university theology departments are not an absolute necessity for theology and its practice. Furthermore, in the context of progressive secularisation and globalisation, the continued relevance of theology faculties within the university setting needs to be revised. It is, therefore, imperative to reconsider the rationale and, thus, the nature, methodology and purpose of the practice of theology at an academic level. The author makes a clear distinction between theology and faith, delineates the distinct domain of ecclesiastical theology, and primarily focuses on the description of academic theology. He addresses the relationship between academic theology and the Church, questioning the possibility of an academic theology that is independent of the Church. He also critically examines the potential limitations of theological methodology as an academic discipline, highlighting the value of interdisciplinary dialogue. The author argues that if academic theology respects the principles outlined and reflects on its position, assumptions, method, and the academic context in which it stands, it can justify its right to exist in the university and be a valid voice in the debate. K. pneumoniae, which produces carbapenemases is of public health importance because of its resistance to antimicrobials. This study was conducted in the laboratories of the Biology Department in the College of Science. K. Pneumoniae is identified phenotypically by its large pink mucus appearance on MacConkey agar because of lactose fermentation and by bacteriological, microscopic, and biochemical tests using the VITK 2 device. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed by Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion. Klebsiella pneumoniae represented 5.3% (n = 16). It is highly resistant to antibiotics used to treat wound infections and shows the highest rate of resistance with cefepime 11 (68.8%), followed by Ertapenem 9 (56.3%), Doripenem and Imipenem 7 (43.8%), and meropenem 6 (37.5%). Carbapenemases resistance was identified by phenotype through the Hodge test and also detection of carbapenemases genes by polymerase chain reaction. The results showed the presence of the bla SHV 16 gene (100%) in K. pneumoniae isolates. The results showed that there were 4 isolates (25%) positive for the bla AMPC gene. The results also showed the presence of the bla KPC gene in two isolates (12.5%). The bla GES gene was not found in K. pneumoniae isolates. In general, the isolates were resistant to carbapenem and cefepime antibiotics. Five random samples were examined by publishing the results of the sequence analysis by BLAST in (NCBI) and the Mega 7 polymorphism detection program: it was found that there was no difference between the sequences, but rather the match was with the bacterium Klebsiella pneumoniae [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The purpose of this study was to describe the relationship between community college department chairs and their adjunct faculty. Methods: This was a descriptive phenomenological qualitative study that used individual semi-structured interviews of 14 department chairs from a purposive sample drawn from a midwestern community college. Data analysis was conducted through two cycles of coding using phenomenological approaches. Results: Findings suggest that department chair relationships with adjunct faculty are transactional, have limited depth, and are perceived as scheduling stopgaps. Department chairs describe their connection as centered on scheduling or administration to prioritize student needs above relationship building. Contributions: The study contributes to existing research by elucidating that the department chair-adjunct didactic relationship is superficial. Department chairs, opposed to lead instructors, hold the most influence to positively influence the academic environment through a deepened relationship with adjunct faculty. Important implications for practice are provided for focused intentional efforts to humanize adjunct faculty within their institutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The COVID‐19 pandemic accelerated the use of remote consultation in hospital outpatient clinics. Remote consultation alters the clinical environment and the learning environment in ways that are incompletely understood. This research sought to explore how trainees negotiate training and learning in such an environment when it is novel to them. Methods: Purposive sampling was used to recruit eight doctors from the gastroenterology department of an academic teaching hospital. Four consultants and four trainees participated in individual, semi‐structured interviews. Interpretative phenomenological analysis of interview transcripts was employed and themes developed from the analysis, to characterise the experience of learning and teaching in remote consultation clinics, as described by participants. Results: Participants described how they try to create mental representations of each patient they review by remote consultation. Whilst consultants found this task relatively easy, trainee physicians found remote consultation more challenging and highlighted the importance of the physical presence of the patient to help them form a holistic sense of the patient's condition. Doctors in training also struggled to develop a workable mental model of the patient's condition when physical examination was precluded by remote consultation. Conclusions: This study highlights the place of the patient's physical presence as an essential educational stimulus to facilitate teaching and learning. Further research is needed to characterise the processes clinicians use to formulate mental models of patients who are physically absent from the consultation room. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The equations that determine the stability of aircraft were formulated at Bangor, Wales, over the first two decades of the twentieth century, a formulation that was to prove as fit for purpose in characterizing the stability of aircraft today, as for the aeroplane allsorts that took to the sky in the wake of the Wrights' Flyer. While these equations are commonly identified with George Hartley Bryan, this does disservice to the contributions of others at Bangor. Not the least of these was William Ellis Williams, whose achievement in identifying photographically the modes predicted by theory is little recognized. Williams later went on to construct what was in all likelihood the first aeroplane designed solely for research to be built in a university department, making the first airborne measurement of pressure distribution across aircraft wings in his Bamboo Bird, in 1913, an achievement not hitherto afforded due credit in the literature. To characterize the size of extraocular muscles (EOMs) in a pediatric population with thyroid dysfunction using orbital echography. Patients under age 18 with thyroid dysfunction who presented to an academic ophthalmology department from 2009 to 2020 and received orbital echography were included in this IRB-approved retrospective study. Data collected included age, clinical activity score (CAS), thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI), and extraocular recti muscle thickness on echography. Patients were organized into three age cohorts, after which statistical analysis compared recti measurements to previously reported normal ranges. Twenty patients with thyroid dysfunction were included. When comparing average recti muscle thicknesses of study patients to those of previously published normal children in similar age ranges, the levator-superior rectus complex was significantly increased in all age groups of children with thyroid dysfunction (p-values = <.004), and the levator-superior rectus complex was most frequently enlarged compared to published normal values (78% of eyes). CAS was not correlated with EOM size in the youngest group (5–10 years old, p-values >.315) but was significantly correlated in older groups (11–17 years old, p-values <.027). TSI was not correlated with EOM size in any group (p-values >.206). Echographic reference ranges for EOMs in children with thyroid dysfunction were established. There are increased rates of levator-superior rectus complex enlargement in children with TED compared to adults with TED, and EOM size is correlated with CAS in children older than 10 years. Though limited, these findings may serve as an additional tool for ophthalmologists to ascertain disease activity in pediatric patients with thyroid dysfunction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: Our study aims to better understand and describe the current state of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) leadership in emergency medicine (EM) by identifying the prevalence of department DEI leadership positions, their demographics, and their job duty characteristics. Methods: We disseminated an electronic survey from April to July 2022 to Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) Association of Academic Chairs of Emergency Medicine, Academy for Diversity and Inclusion in Emergency Medicine, and the Equity and Inclusion Committee to identify department DEI leads. From July to August 2022, a 45‐question survey was sent to all identified DEI leaders on individual characteristics, DEI experience, and DEI lead job description. Results: We received a response from 79 out of 120 academic EM departments identified (65.8%). Of the responding institutions, 59 (74.7%) reported a DEI leader. A total of 74.6% of these DEI leaders responded at least partially to our survey and 57.6% responded in full. The most common titles were vice/associate chair of DEI (34.4%), director of DEI (28.1%), and DEI committee chair (18.8%). Most respondents (84.4%) were the inaugural DEI lead in their department and 84.4% of respondents did not have a formal DEI role in their department previously. On average, respondents have had their DEI title for 2 years (range 0–7 years) with an average of 7 years (range 0–30 years) of experience performing DEI work. Many (63.4%) do not receive any funded effort for their DEI roles. Most DEI leads were not tenure track (72.2%) and most commonly at the rank of assistant professor (47.2%) followed by associate professor (33.3%), full professor (16.7%), and instructor (2.8%). Conclusions: This is the first known study to assess the characteristics of DEI department leaders in EM. EM DEI leadership positions are new, common, and led by diverse personal identities and are often not funded. Objective: Fellowship training is increasingly popular among residency graduates and critical to the advancement of academic emergency medicine (EM). Little is known about the clinical hours worked and financial compensation received by fellows during training. We sought to describe the clinical duties and financial compensation of EM fellows at U.S. academic centers. Methods: This cross‐sectional study surveyed U.S. academic EM department administrators who were members of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine's Academy of Administrators in Academic Emergency Medicine (AAAEM) regarding their fellowship programs and fellows. We electronically distributed the validated survey instrument to 73 member sites between October 2022 and January 2023. Survey domains included fellow and fellowship demographics, base and total annual clinical hours, and base and total annual compensation. We calculated descriptive statistics and compared fellows by accreditation (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education [ACGME] or non‐ACGME) using chi‐square and Wilcoxon rank‐sum testing. We conducted a secondary analysis of base and total salary by gender and accreditation using Wilcoxon rank‐sum testing. Results: We received 38 institutional responses (response rate 52%), which represented 217 individual fellows. Nearly three‐fourths (n = 158, 72.8%) of fellows enrolled in non‐ACGME fellowships, worked 33% more base hours annually than ACGME fellows (median 571 h vs. 768 h, p < 0.001), and received base compensation 20% higher than ACGME fellows ($88,540 vs. $70,777, p < 0.001). Accounting for additional compensation, the median total annual compensation for non‐ACGME fellows remained 11% higher than ACGME fellows ($105,000 vs. $93,853, p = 0.004). We observed no significant differences salary when stratified by gender. Conclusions: Most EM fellows at U.S. academic institutions enrolled in non‐ACGME fellowships with significantly higher base hours and financial compensation than ACGME fellowships. These results represent the first description of the clinical hours and financial compensation of academic EM fellows and should be considered in ongoing benchmarking efforts by AAAEM. Previous studies employing numeric scores have observed that anonymous postings on the Rate-My-Professor (RMP) site tend to be more negative than ratings within a school. In this study, rather than using numeric evaluations, we compared the official UNIV evaluations with the RMP evaluations at the individual faculty course level, employing sentiment analysis on the text comments in evaluations. We compared positive sentiments in ratings on RMP to those in a specific business school department at a university. Our results show a statistically significant difference, with higher positive ratings at the university. We also analyzed emotions using NRC, finding a significant difference, with RMP having higher levels of negative emotions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The curriculum review and transformation project reported in this paper represents an intentional and collaborative effort of faculty and administrators in one academic department to implement meaningful changes in undergraduate curricula. Supported by two internal grants from the university, this three-year project included all faculty and administrators of the department. A systematic comparison was conducted between course syllabi content before and after the curriculum content intervention. Results identify changes in syllabi, course learning objectives, units/topics covered, and readings/course materials. Discussion provides implications for curriculum revision and suggestions for best practices to integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion across curricula. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We sought to determine the perceived importance and development of agricultural students' employability skills, and the factors and experiences that influence their development. We used a cross-sectional survey research design and conducted a census of Texas A&M University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences students by distributing a researcher-developed instrument to all students following the tailored design method. We collected 991 usable responses. Students believed communication and decision-making skills were most important, but their teamwork skills and self-management skills were most developed. Seven types of professional experiences significantly and positively influenced students' perceived development of employability skills. Students who knew the type of career they wanted to pursue believed their employability skills were statistically significantly better developed than students who did not. Agricultural educators should help students identify career interests early in their academic pursuit and encourage their participation in professional experiences to improve their perceived employability skills development. Increased frequency of participating in teamwork, leadership, project management, community engagement, cross-disciplinary, international, and internship experiences can increase agricultural students' perceived general human capital. Knowledge regarding the type of career they want to pursue can also increase perceived human capital. The history of gardening and landscaping has historically been a male monopoly, and until the 20th century, women could not get anywhere near a career in these fields. This brief review focuses on some of the women who paved the way in Europe and the USA. It also attempts to tell some lesser-known stories, focusing on those who turned to gardening and landscaping, subjects that have been much less explored in floriculture. This review does not claim to be exhaustive, although it does attempt to draw attention to a historical period between the Victorian age and the present day. Women's significant contributions range from dissemination to teaching, research, education, association and popularization of gardening and landscaping. In this paper, we briefly discuss, in the 21st century, men and women who may have similarities in education and work experience, but these similarities do not lead to comparable careers or positions in academic departments. Some scientific studies that have an impact on the design and sustainable management of green spaces linked to ecosystem services are considered. This study investigates the influence of ChatGPT on critical thinking and English language learning within Ukrainian university English departments. Utilizing qualitative and quantitative methods, it involved 31 students and three language instructors in surveys and ChatGPT-assisted project-based activities. The significance of this study lies in its potential to guide the integration of AI tools in educational contexts, particularly in language learning. By examining the benefits and challenges of using ChatGPT, the study provides insights into how AI can support or hinder language learning and critical thinking. This is particularly relevant in the context of rapidly evolving educational technologies and the increasing use of AI in academic settings. In the spring semester of 2023, a research study was carried out involving students participating in a project-based activity using ChatGPT. The study comprised two main phases: initial survey, project completion, and evaluation. Quantitatively, it was found that 62% of students use ChatGPT weekly, underlining its role in their language studies. The results showed varied perspectives on its efficacy, especially in critical thinking, English skills development, and ethical considerations. Ethical and pedagogical issues were also significant, including concerns about the authenticity of AI responses, plagiarism risks, and AI dependency. Nevertheless, the potential advantages of ChatGPT, such as immediate language support and the promotion of learner independence, were acknowledged by students. The Objective of this study was mainly to analyze the effectiveness of the fair recruitment and selection procedures in the public sector universities of Pakistan. In order to achieve the objective, the current hiring practices were studies from 50 respondents of university of Sindh Jamshoro, through non - probability sampling method. The careful attention was given in data collection and was collected through personally administered questionnaire from heads of the teaching departments who are actually operating academic departments and are a vital part of recruitment and selection. Data was analyzed through SPSS by applying Pearson correlation and regression analysis and some needed descriptive statistics. Study found that Job description and job specification have the greater influence on the effectiveness of fair recruitment and selection procedures. Secondly, fairness of recruitment and selection procedures proved interconnected and interrelated. Finally, based on the discussion in detail, the authors have jotted down brief followed by future directions, which authors believe will not only help the researchers to conduct future research but also practitioners in the relevant recruitment and selection section can take the benefits from this research. Digital computers were invented in the 1940s. They are sophisticated and versatile machines whose functioning is grounded in elaborate theory. Advances in theory and the availability of computers helped computer science to develop as an academic discipline, and university departments for the same started coming up in the 1960s. Computer science covers all phenomenon related to computers and consists primarily of man-made laws governing building, programming, and using computers. Computational thinking is a way of thinking influenced by computers and computer science. There are two schools of thought on computational thinking. The first school sees computational thinking as the use of computers to explore the world, while the other sees computational thinking as the application of concepts from computer science to solve real-world problems. Scholars typically agree that computational thinking has four essential components, viz., abstraction, decomposition, algorithm design, and generalization. Computational thinking is often feted by computer scientists as a useful skill that can be used by anybody anywhere. Despite a move toward gender parity in the United States (U.S.) workforce, a large gender gap persists in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM); this is particularly true for academic (i.e., instructor and tenure track) STEM positions. This gap increases as women advance through the traditional steps of academia, with the highest degree of gender disparity in tenured positions. As policies, politics, and culture, which all contribute to gender equity across the world, vary across regions in the United States, we expect that the gender gap in STEM might also vary across geographic regions. Here, we evaluated over 20,000 instructor and tenure track positions in university STEM departments across the U.S. to evaluate whether and how the geographic region of a university might determine its proportion of women in STEM academic positions. Similar to previous research, regardless of geographic region, more men were employed in both tenure track and instructor positions across STEM fields. However, variation existed regionally within the U.S., with the Mountain region employing the lowest proportion of women in tenure track positions and the East North Central and Pacific regions employing the greatest proportion. We expect this regional variation could be caused by differences in state and local policies, regional representation, and mentorship, resulting in inconsistent support for women, leading to differences in work environments, hiring, and job retention rates across the country. A better understanding of which geographic areas within the U.S. have more equal distributions of women in the STEM field will help us to identify the specific mechanisms that facilitate more equal and inclusive opportunities for women and other underrepresented groups across all levels of STEM academia. This study showed attitudes of college students toward statistics and research courses. It was conducted to determine the relationship between the attitudes toward statistics courses and attitudes toward research courses of college students. It also identified significant differences of these attitudes with demographic factor. The data were collected through standardized questionnaires, Revised Attitudes Toward Research (R-ATR) and Survey of Attitude Toward Statistics (SATS-28), both using 7-point scale. A descriptive-comparative and descriptive-correlational method were utilized with a total number of one hundred sixty (160) college students as respondents of this study. Based on the results, neutral attitudes toward statistics and research courses were found out. A significant difference was also determined on the attitudes toward research when grouped according to the college department. However, no significant differences were found out on the attitude toward research courses according to sex and on the attitudes toward statistics according to sex and college department. Finally, a significant relationship was revealed between attitudes of college students toward statistics and research courses. This suggests a minor interdependence between these subjects in terms of student attitudes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents a discussion among several professors in the history department at the University at Albany, the State University of New York who were involved in a curriculum overhaul project that failed to obtain the objectives of attracting new students and stemming the decline in those choosing to major in the humanities. The University's department embraced the premise put forth by the American Historical Association's Tuning the History Discipline project that sought to attract majors, resources and prestige through a more creative, research-based curriculum. The scholars discuss the reasons why the project failed, and how they have reevaluated their assumptions, expectations and options going forward.

The article discusses the profound influence of academic structures, specifically within history departments, on shaping educational outcomes. The focus is on redesigning history courses and curricula to better serve diverse student populations and align with evolving educational needs. Examples from initiatives like the History Gateways project illustrate how departments can lead efforts to improve student learning and success. By utilizing curricular analytics and fostering departmental collaboration, history departments can address systemic challenges and ensure the relevance and vitality of their programs in the face of demographic shifts in higher education.

The article offers information on the History Teaching & Learning Project (HTLP), with the aim to reform the history curriculum at the University of Colorado Boulder. The project's origins, development, and implementation goals, including the development of student learning objectives, the promotion of a culture of scholarly teaching, and the revision of the curriculum, are discussed.

Objectives To evaluate the gender composition of departmental chairs and program leadership of Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education–accredited pathology residencies and American Board of Pathology–certified subspecialty fellowships across the United States. Methods In this cross-sectional analysis, we examined the gender of individuals holding leadership positions in academic pathology in the United States. Using publicly available online data, 2 authors independently coded perceived gender (ie, man/woman/other) with 100% concordance. Results In 144 pathology residency programs, more women hold residency program director positions (52.1% [75/144]). Among 11 pathology subspecialties, women overall hold fewer fellowship program director positions (45.0% [212/471]). Among the residency-associated pathology department chair positions identified, women hold fewer positions (31.8% [42/132]). There is some geographic variation in pathology leadership gender composition when stratified using US Census regions. Conclusions Women in academic pathology departments are well represented in residency and overall fellowship program leadership but are underrepresented in department chair and certain pathology subspecialty leadership positions. The disproportionate number of women in department chair positions is observed across medical specialties, highlighting the need for improved gender equity among high-level academic medicine positions. The textile department at the Yorkshire College of Science was opened in 1875 and absorbed into the University of Leeds in 1904. Thereafter it was transformed from a well-equipped centre for technical education, meeting local industrial needs, to an applied science department of high academic achievement, and international renown, with a graduate employment record which was both successful and diverse. Throughout, it received the generous support of the Worshipful Company of Clothworkers. The transformation, which was neither straightforward nor painless, required a strategic response to each of three questions by three successive generations of university managers, as follows. Firstly, can a technical curriculum be sustained in a university setting? Secondly, can the study of textiles be redefined as an applied science? Thirdly, can other disciplines be included to provide broader insights? By considering the responses, this article explores the manner in which social relationships, academic behaviour, industrial practice, and industrial change interacted to shape the curriculum and the research agenda, during an era of large-scale textile production in the UK. There is a severe shortage of pediatric radiologists in the USA and across the globe due to multiple factors. These severe shortages, along with increased clinical demand, growing research costs and limited funding sources place pediatric radiologists, particularly those in academic departments, under increasing time pressure, affecting their ability to maintain research productivity. In this paper, we model a new concept that should help boost the research efforts within the pediatric radiology community, while diversifying the academic workforce through the involvement of international medical graduates (IMGs). We describe the mutual advantages this concept could have on academic pediatric radiology departments and IMGs alike, as well as pose some of the unique challenges that could impact this concept and effective strategies to ensure success. Though increasing numbers of racially and ethnically minoritized (REM) individuals earn PhDs and national initiatives focus on faculty diversity, challenges persist in recruiting, hiring, and retaining REM faculty. While a pervasive issue nationally, the literature predominantly focuses on faculty diversity at research‐intensive institutions. This exploratory case study pilots a readiness instrument to evaluate the commitment and willingness of a biomedical department at a primarily undergraduate institution to embrace faculty diversity before initiating a postdoctoral faculty conversion program. We introduce the Community Readiness Model (CRM) into an academic context, offering academic departments a robust framework and tool to evaluate readiness and capacity to recruit, retain, and support REM faculty. Practical Takeaways: Academic departments can be conceived of as a type of community.The adapted Department Readiness Tool can be a valuable method of evaluating a department's readiness to support the success of underrepresented minority faculty.Departments may score highly on some areas of readiness but relatively low on others, which provides insight into where time and resources should be invested to improve readiness. Background: A copy of Scleromyceti Sueciae, a work on which the nomenclature of many fungi is based was known to occur in Scotland's Glasgow University Botany Department but the buildings were devastated by fire in 2001 and the whereabouts of this important work, if it existed, was lost. Its re-finding is reported herein. Results: The Glasgow copy of Scleromyceti Sueciae, an uncut first edition of Fries' work, was located in the Glasgow Museums in its original cabinet being transferred there years before the fire and its specimens being now databased. It is one of the few existing uncut copies of this important scientific work and one of the best-preserved copies of the first edition. Conclusion: The discovery of this first edition of Scleromyceti Sueciae emphasizes the significance to reserve special conservation for important collections by early mycologists. This article examines women's perceptions of and experiences with institutional norms in political science departments and their institutions. Conceptually, it builds on feminist institutionalism. Specifically, it examines the broad institutional norms, formal and informal, that define political science departments within their larger institutions, as well as potential avenues for change. I argue that a "critical mass" of women in academic departments and the presence of "critical actors" in departmental and university leadership positions sympathetic to the cause and powerful enough to implement change can bring about institutional reforms. To that end, I conducted a survey among 1,273 female PhD students and faculty members in political science departments across the United States. The survey questions revolve around women's perceptions of institutional gender norms, the way they are judged by them, their ability to have professional success under them, and their (or others') ability to change them. After discussing the survey results within the context of feminist institutional theory, I offer some conclusions about the positions of women in political science departments in the United States, the implications of this for the profession at-large, and some thoughts on avenues for future research on the issue. Background & Purpose: In Iran's administrative system, the task of selecting and appointing government managers is very important. The people who are entrusted with these central positions have the power to shape and influence the direction of public administration and the implementation of policies. Choosing the right public administrators is not just a routine procedure and it is a decision that can have far-reaching consequences for the effectiveness and success of the administrative apparatus. A selected team of capable and competent managers can create positive transformations in the administrative system and strengthen efficient governance. By choosing capable managers, Iran's administrative system can actively address challenges and implement effective policies. Methodology: The current research is qualitative and was carried out using thematic analysis method. The statistical population of the research was made up of experts from both academic and executive departments, and a semi-structured interview was conducted with 17 experts using snowball type targeted sampling. Interview data were coded and then analyzed using MAXQDA software. The validity of the findings was confirmed with the help of the agreement coefficient between two coders. Findings: In this section, the harms and challenges of managers' choices and appointments in Iran's administrative system were dealt with. Finally, 53 basic themes were extracted in the form of five overarching themes including "political influence and dynamics", "evaluation and measurement", "accountability and transparency", "resource management", and "procedural issues". And, a classification process and the overarching theme of "political influence and dynamics" were recognized as the most important factors influencing managerial appointments. Conclusion: This research shows the critical challenges related to the selection and appointment of managers in the administrative system and its complex landscape. The most important of these challenges is the general issue of "political influence and dynamics," which emphasizes the need to improve processes to minimize external pressures on managerial appointments. In this regard, the current study aims to promote transparency, reduce political interference, apply advanced evaluation methods, use modified measurement tools, pay attention to knowledge and experience, optimize competency models and eliminate organizational deficiencies, and provides recommendations for selecting managers. By addressing these challenges and implementing targeted organizational reforms, the selection structure of managers in Iran's administrative system can be moved towards more responsible and efficient choices. This will ultimately help to improve the level of accountability, efficiency and overall effectiveness of the administrative system in the development and progress of the country. The training of oral and written summarization is embedded in Cognitive Apprenticeship Theory (CAT). This study examines how this form of intervention can improve the longterm reading comprehension skills of students at the Intermediate level; under a program to train translators in English/French into Arabic. It assesses the effectiveness of individual learning and cooperative study methods. One group was given personalized learning, another collaborative; both were split further into spoken and written groups. The 120 students in this cohort all came from the translation studies department at Al-Noor University College (all under age 23). During the six sessions, a delayed post-test used summarization and cooperation scales. The results obtained from one-way ANOVA clarify the impact of summarization training, with verbal groups performing better than written and control learning. In the delayed post-test, groups engaged in collaborative learning notably improved. According to survey results, questions about teacher and student feedback offer mainly positive evaluations of summarization strategies and collaborative learning in translation studies. This study stresses the advanced reading skills in translation studies students gained through summarization training or collaborative learning. This study investigates if there are significant differences in the delayed improvement of reading skills among Translation Department students due to different patterns of summarization training, individually and collaboratively. It also investigates whether there is a significant difference in the delayed effects on reading skills between collaborative and individual approaches, as well as summarizing strategies perception among teachers and students working in Translation Departments. In this study, the stool sample of a cockatiel (Nymphicus hollandicus Kerr, 1972), brought with complaints of loss of appetite, weight loss and bad smell in the stool, was examined mycologically. Serial dilutions of the stool sample were made under aseptic conditions and inoculated into Dichloran Rose-Bengal Chloramphenicol Agar (DRBC) and blood agar media. After incubation, the samples were separated as pure colonies and morphological, microscopic and molecular identifications were made from these pure colonies. Phenol-chloroform isoamylalcohol DNA isolation method was used for molecular identification. PCR amplification from fungal DNAs was carried out at Aydın Adnan Menderes University Biology Department Microbiology Laboratory and by commercial companies as service procurement. Sequencing services were provided by Innopenta Biotechnology and Macrogen Europe. Primers ITS1 (50-TCCGTAGGTGAACCTGCGG-30) / ITS4 (50-TCCTCCGCTTATTGATATGC-30) were used. The nBLAST program was used to identify fungi and species were matched according to their genetic similarity rates. Sequence results were recorded in the GenBank system and added to the culture collection. After molecular studies, Fusarium fujikuroi HBF578 and Mucor racemosus HBB579 strains were identified. When the literature studies were examined, it was seen that the Fusarium fujikuroi HBF578 strain had not been isolated from the Cockatiel before and was reported for the first time in this study.
