Cavity optomechanical systems have enabled precision sensing of magnetic fields, by leveraging the optical resonance-enhanced readout and mechanical resonance-enhanced response. Previous studies have successfully achieved scalable and reproducible microcavity optomechanical magnetometry (MCOM) by incorporating Terfenol-D thin films into high-quality ($Q$) factor whispering gallery mode (WGM) microcavities. However, the sensitivity was limited to 585 pT/Hz$^{1/2}$, over 20 times inferior to those using Terfenol-D particles. In this work, we propose and demonstrate a high-sensitivity and scalable MCOM approach by sputtering a FeGaB thin film onto a high-$Q$ SiO$_2$ WGM microdisk. Theoretical studies are conducted to explore the magnetic actuation constant and noise-limited sensitivity by varying the parameters of the FeGaB film and SiO$_2$ microdisk. Multiple magnetometers with different radii are fabricated and characterized. By utilizing a microdisk with a radius of 355 $\mu$m and a thickness of 1 $\mu$m, along with a FeGaB film with a radius of 330 $\mu$m and a thickness of 1.3 $\mu$m, we have achieved a remarkable peak sensitivity of 1.68 pT/Hz$^{1/2}$ at 9.52 MHz. This represents a significant improvement of over two orders of magnitude compared with previous studies employing sputtered Terfenol-D film. Notably, the magnetometer operates without a bias magnetic field, thanks to the remarkable soft magnetic properties of the FeGaB film. Furthermore, as a proof-of-concept, we have demonstrated the real-time measurement of a pulsed magnetic field simulating the corona current in a high-voltage transmission line using our developed magnetometer. These high-sensitivity magnetometers hold great potential for various applications, such as magnetic induction tomography and corona current monitoring.

Online bidding and auction are crucial aspects of the online advertising industry. Conventionally, there is only one slot for ad display and most current studies focus on it. Nowadays, multi-slot display advertising is gradually becoming popular where many ads could be displayed in a list and shown as a whole to users. However, multi-slot display advertising leads to different cost-effectiveness. Advertisers have the incentive to adjust bid prices so as to win the most economical ad positions. In this study, we introduce bid shading into multi-slot display advertising for bid price adjustment with a Multi-task End-to-end Bid Shading(MEBS) method. We prove the optimality of our method theoretically and examine its performance experimentally. Through extensive offline and online experiments, we demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our method, and we obtain a 7.01% lift in Gross Merchandise Volume, a 7.42% lift in Return on Investment, and a 3.26% lift in ad buy count.

Pointer arithmetic is widely used in low-level programs, e.g. memory allocators. The specification of such programs usually requires using pointer arithmetic inside inductive definitions to define the common data structures, e.g. heap lists in memory allocators. In this work, we investigate decision problems for SLAH, a separation logic fragment that allows pointer arithmetic inside inductive definitions, thus enabling specification of properties for programs manipulating heap lists. Pointer arithmetic inside inductive definitions is challenging for automated reasoning. We tackle this challenge and achieve decision procedures for both satisfiability and entailment of SLAH formulas. The crux of our decision procedure for satisfiability is to compute summaries of inductive definitions. We show that although the summary is naturally expressed as an existentially quantified non-linear arithmetic formula, it can actually be transformed into an equivalent linear arithmetic formula. The decision procedure for entailment, on the other hand, has to match and split the spatial atoms according to the arithmetic relation between address variables. We report on the implementation of these decision procedures and their good performance in solving problems issued from the verification of building block programs used in memory allocators.

Building upon the impressive success of CLIP (Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining), recent pioneer works have proposed to adapt the powerful CLIP to video data, leading to efficient and effective video learners for open-vocabulary action recognition. Inspired by that humans perform actions in diverse environments, our work delves into an intriguing question: Can CLIP-based video learners effectively generalize to video domains they have not encountered during training? To answer this, we establish a CROSS-domain Open-Vocabulary Action recognition benchmark named XOV-Action, and conduct a comprehensive evaluation of five state-of-the-art CLIP-based video learners under various types of domain gaps. The evaluation demonstrates that previous methods exhibit limited action recognition performance in unseen video domains, revealing potential challenges of the cross-domain open-vocabulary action recognition task. In this paper, we focus on one critical challenge of the task, namely scene bias, and accordingly contribute a novel scene-aware video-text alignment method. Our key idea is to distinguish video representations apart from scene-encoded text representations, aiming to learn scene-agnostic video representations for recognizing actions across domains. In online advertising, advertisers participate in ad auctions to acquire ad opportunities, often by utilizing auto-bidding tools provided by demand-side platforms (DSPs). The current auto-bidding algorithms typically employ reinforcement learning (RL). However, due to safety concerns, most RL-based auto-bidding policies are trained in simulation, leading to a performance degradation when deployed in online environments. To narrow this gap, we can deploy multiple auto-bidding agents in parallel to collect a large interaction dataset. Offline RL algorithms can then be utilized to train a new policy. The trained policy can subsequently be deployed for further data collection, resulting in an iterative training framework, which we refer to as iterative offline RL. In this work, we identify the performance bottleneck of this iterative offline RL framework, which originates from the ineffective exploration and exploitation caused by the inherent conservatism of offline RL algorithms. To overcome this bottleneck, we propose Trajectory-wise Exploration and Exploitation (TEE), which introduces a novel data collecting and data utilization method for iterative offline RL from a trajectory perspective. Furthermore, to ensure the safety of online exploration while preserving the dataset quality for TEE, we propose Safe Exploration by Adaptive Action Selection (SEAS). Identifying high-revenue mechanisms that are both dominant strategy incentive compatible (DSIC) and individually rational (IR) is a fundamental challenge in auction design. While theoretical approaches have encountered bottlenecks in multi-item auctions, there has been much empirical progress in automated designing such mechanisms using machine learning. However, existing research primarily focuses on randomized auctions, with less attention given to the more practical deterministic auctions. Therefore, this paper investigates the automated design of deterministic auctions and introduces OD-VVCA, an objective decomposition approach for automated designing Virtual Valuations Combinatorial Auctions (VVCAs). Firstly, we restrict our mechanism to deterministic VVCAs, which are inherently DSIC and IR. Afterward, we utilize a parallelizable dynamic programming algorithm to compute the allocation and revenue outcomes of a VVCA efficiently. We then decompose the revenue objective function into continuous and piecewise constant discontinuous components, optimizing each using distinct methods. Extensive experiments show that OD-VVCA achieves high revenue in multi-item auctions, especially in large-scale settings where it outperforms both randomized and deterministic baselines, indicating its efficacy and scalability.

Large-scale models rely heavily on 3D parallelism for distributed training, which utilizes tensor parallelism (TP) as the intra-operator parallelism to partition model states across GPUs. However, TP introduces significant communication overheads and complexity in modifying single-GPU code. In this paper, we propose a TP-free distributed framework ZeroPP, which leverages the hybrid of scalable inter-operator pipeline parallelism and intra-operator fully sharded data parallelism to train models at scale, reducing memory consumption and enabling high training efficiency. Through extensive experimentation, we demonstrate that ZeroPP achieves significant performance gains of up to 33% compared to conventional 3D parallelism while maintaining comparable GPU memory consumption.

Structure-based drug design (SBDD) aims to generate 3D ligand molecules that bind to specific protein targets. Existing 3D deep generative models including diffusion models have shown great promise for SBDD. However, it is complex to capture the essential protein-ligand interactions exactly in 3D space for molecular generation. To address this problem, we propose a novel framework, namely Binding-Adaptive Diffusion Models (BindDM). In BindDM, we adaptively extract subcomplex, the essential part of binding sites responsible for protein-ligand interactions. Then the selected protein-ligand subcomplex is processed with SE(3)-equivariant neural networks, and transmitted back to each atom of the complex for augmenting the target-aware 3D molecule diffusion generation with binding interaction information. We iterate this hierarchical complex-subcomplex process with cross-hierarchy interaction node for adequately fusing global binding context between the complex and its corresponding subcomplex. Empirical studies on the CrossDocked2020 dataset show BindDM can generate molecules with more realistic 3D structures and higher binding affinities towards the protein targets, with up to -5.92 Avg. Diffusion models are a new class of generative models, and have dramatically promoted image generation with unprecedented quality and diversity. Existing diffusion models mainly try to reconstruct input image from a corrupted one with a pixel-wise or feature-wise constraint along spatial axes. However, such point-based reconstruction may fail to make each predicted pixel/feature fully preserve its neighborhood context, impairing diffusion-based image synthesis. As a powerful source of automatic supervisory signal, context has been well studied for learning representations. Inspired by this, we for the first time propose ConPreDiff to improve diffusion-based image synthesis with context prediction. We explicitly reinforce each point to predict its neighborhood context (i.e., multi-stride features/tokens/pixels) with a context decoder at the end of diffusion denoising blocks in training stage, and remove the decoder for inference. In this way, each point can better reconstruct itself by preserving its semantic connections with neighborhood context. This new paradigm of ConPreDiff can generalize to arbitrary discrete and continuous diffusion backbones without introducing extra parameters in sampling procedure. Extensive experiments are conducted on unconditional image generation, text-to-image generation and image inpainting tasks. Automatic Modulation Recognition (AMR) plays a crucial role in wireless communication systems. Deep learning AMR strategies have achieved tremendous success in recent years. Modulated signals exhibit long temporal dependencies, and extracting global features is crucial in identifying modulation schemes. Traditionally, human experts analyze patterns in constellation diagrams to classify modulation schemes. Classical convolutional-based networks, due to their limited receptive fields, excel at extracting local features but struggle to capture global relationships. To address this limitation, we introduce a novel hybrid deep framework named TLDNN, which incorporates the architectures of the transformer and long short-term memory (LSTM). We utilize the self-attention mechanism of the transformer to model the global correlations in signal sequences while employing LSTM to enhance the capture of temporal dependencies. To mitigate the impact like RF fingerprint features and channel characteristics on model generalization, we propose data augmentation strategies known as segment substitution (SS) to enhance the model's robustness to modulation-related features. Experimental results on widely-used datasets demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance and exhibits significant advantages in terms of complexity. Our proposed framework serves as a foundational backbone that can be extended to different datasets. We have verified the effectiveness of our augmentation approach in enhancing the generalization of the models, particularly in few-shot scenarios. In this paper, we study the stability for 2-D plane Poiseuille flow $(1-y^2,0)$ in a channel $\mathbb{T}\times (-1,1)$ with Navier-slip boundary condition. We prove that if the initial perturbation for velocity field $u_0$ satisfies that $\|u_0\|_{H^{\frac{7}{2}+}} \leq \epsilon_1 \nu^{2/3}$ for some suitable small $0<\epsilon_1 \ll 1$ independent of viscosity coefficient $\nu$, then the solution to the Navier-Stokes equations is global in time and does not transit from the plane Poiseuille flow. In this paper, we study the contact line problem in a channel. Precisely, we consider the incompressible Navier-Stokes/Cahn-Hilliard system with eneralized Navier boundary condition and relaxation boundary condition in a channel, which is the phase field model for the moving contact line problem in fluid mechanics. We establish the existence and uniqueness of local-in-time strong solution to this initial boundary value problem in 2D. To our knowledge, this is the first result to give the local-in-time well-posedness of Navier-Stokes/Cahn-Hilliard system with generalized Navier boundary condition and relaxation boundary condition. This result provides a rigorous mathematical analysis to confirm that the physical and numerical results by Qian-Wang-Sheng [Phys. Rev. E 68 (2003), 016306, 1-15; J. Fluid Mech. 564 (2006), 333-360] are well-posed and reasonable.

The advent of deep learning (DL)-based models has significantly advanced Channel State Information (CSI) feedback mechanisms in wireless communication systems. However, traditional approaches often suffer from high communication overhead and potential privacy risks due to the centralized nature of CSI data processing. To address these challenges, we design a CSI feedback training framework called Dig-CSI, in which the dataset for training the CSI feedback model is produced by the distributed generators uploaded by each user equipment (UE), but not through local data upload. Each UE trains an autoencoder, where the decoder is considered as the distributed generator, with local data to gain reconstruction accuracy and the ability to generate. Experimental results show that Dig-CSI can train a global CSI feedback model with comparable performance to the model trained with classical centralized learning with a much lighter communication overhead.

In this paper, we propose a new method for the augmentation of numeric and mixed datasets. The method generates additional data points by utilizing cross-validation resampling and latent variable modeling. It is particularly efficient for datasets with moderate to high degrees of collinearity, as it directly utilizes this property for generation. The method is simple, fast, and has very few parameters, which, as shown in the paper, do not require specific tuning. It has been tested on several real datasets; here, we report detailed results for two cases, prediction of protein in minced meat based on near infrared spectra (fully numeric data with high degree of collinearity) and discrimination of patients referred for coronary angiography (mixed data, with both numeric and categorical variables, and moderate collinearity). In both cases, artificial neural networks were employed for developing the regression and the discrimination models. The results show a clear improvement in the performance of the models; thus for the prediction of meat protein, fitting the model to the augmented data resulted in a reduction in the root mean squared error computed for the independent test set by 1.5 to 3 times., Comment: 21 pages, 7 figures

Semantic communication (SemCom) has been deemed as a promising communication paradigm to break through the bottleneck of traditional communications. Nonetheless, most of the existing works focus more on point-to-point communication scenarios and its extension to multi-user scenarios is not that straightforward due to its cost-inefficiencies to directly scale the JSCC framework to the multi-user communication system. Meanwhile, previous methods optimize the system by differentiable bit-level supervision, easily leading to a "semantic gap". Therefore, we delve into multi-user broadcast communication (BC) based on the universal transformer (UT) and propose a reinforcement learning (RL) based self-critical alternate learning (SCAL) algorithm, named SemanticBC-SCAL, to capably adapt to the different BC channels from one transmitter (TX) to multiple receivers (RXs) for sentence generation task. In particular, to enable stable optimization via a nondifferentiable semantic metric, we regard sentence similarity as a reward and formulate this learning process as an RL problem. Considering the huge decision space, we adopt a lightweight but efficient self-critical supervision to guide the learning process. Meanwhile, an alternate learning mechanism is developed to provide cost-effective learning, in which the encoder and decoders are updated asynchronously with different iterations. Notably, the incorporation of RL makes SemanticBC-SCAL compliant with any user-defined semantic similarity metric and simultaneously addresses the channel non-differentiability issue by alternate learning. Besides, the convergence of SemanticBC-SCAL is also theoretically established. Extensive simulation results have been conducted to verify the effectiveness and superiorness of our approach, especially in low SNRs.

Parameter-efficient fine-tuning (PEFT) is an effective methodology to unleash the potential of large foundation models in novel scenarios with limited training data. In the computer vision community, PEFT has shown effectiveness in image classification, but little research has studied its ability for image segmentation. Fine-tuning segmentation models usually require a heavier adjustment of parameters to align the proper projection directions in the parameter space for new scenarios. This raises a challenge to existing PEFT algorithms, as they often inject a limited number of individual parameters into each block, which prevents substantial adjustment of the projection direction of the parameter space due to the limitation of Hidden Markov Chain along blocks. In this paper, we equip PEFT with a cross-block orchestration mechanism to enable the adaptation of the Segment Anything Model (SAM) to various downstream scenarios. We introduce a novel inter-block communication module, which integrates a learnable relation matrix to facilitate communication among different coefficient sets of each PEFT block's parameter space. Moreover, we propose an intra-block enhancement module, which introduces a linear projection head whose weights are generated from a hyper-complex layer, further enhancing the impact of the adjustment of projection directions on the entire parameter space. Extensive experiments on diverse benchmarks demonstrate that our proposed approach consistently improves the segmentation performance significantly on novel scenarios with only around 1K additional parameters., Comment: Accepted by CVPR2024

Optical frequency comb based on microresonator (microcomb) is an integrated coherent light source and has the potential to promise a high-precision frequency standard, and self-reference and long-term stable microcomb is the key to this realization. Here, we demonstrated a 0.7-octave spectrum Kerr comb via dispersion engineering in a thin film lithium niobate microresonator, and the single soliton state can be accessed passively with long-term stability over 3 hours. With such a robust broadband coherent comb source using thin film lithium niobate, fully stabilized microcomb can be expected for massive practical applications., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures

We propose FrePolad: frequency-rectified point latent diffusion, a point cloud generation pipeline integrating a variational autoencoder (VAE) with a denoising diffusion probabilistic model (DDPM) for the latent distribution. FrePolad simultaneously achieves high quality, diversity, and flexibility in point cloud cardinality for generation tasks while maintaining high computational efficiency. The improvement in generation quality and diversity is achieved through (1) a novel frequency rectification via spherical harmonics designed to retain high-frequency content while learning the point cloud distribution; and (2) a latent DDPM to learn the regularized yet complex latent distribution. In addition, FrePolad supports variable point cloud cardinality by formulating the sampling of points as conditional distributions over a latent shape distribution. Finally, the low-dimensional latent space encoded by the VAE contributes to FrePolad's fast and scalable sampling. Our quantitative and qualitative results demonstrate FrePolad's state-of-the-art performance in terms of quality, diversity, and computational efficiency. The Transformer-based deep networks have increasingly shown significant advantages over CNNs. Some existing work has applied it in the field of wildfire recognition or detection. However, we observed that the vanilla Transformer is not friendly for extracting smoke features. Because low-level information such as color, transparency and texture is very important for smoke recognition, and transformer pays more attention to the semantic relevance between middle- or high-level features, and is not sensitive to the subtle changes of low-level features along the space. To solve this problem, we propose the Cross Contrast Patch Embedding(CCPE) module based on the Swin Transformer, which uses the multi-scales spatial frequency contrast information in both vertical and horizontal directions to improve the discrimination of the network on the underlying details. The fuzzy boundary of smoke makes the positive and negative label assignment for instances in a dilemma, which is another challenge for wildfires detection. To solve this problem, a Separable Negative Sampling Mechanism(SNSM) is proposed. By using two different negative instance sampling strategies on positive images and negative images respectively, the problem of supervision signal confusion caused by label diversity in the process of network training is alleviated. This paper also releases the RealFire Test, the largest real wildfire test set so far, to evaluate the proposed method and promote future research. It contains 50,535 images from 3,649 video clips. The proposed method has been extensively tested and evaluated on RealFire Test dataset, and has a significant performance improvement compared with the baseline detection models.

Existing open-source helpfulness preference datasets do not specify what makes some responses more helpful and others less so. Models trained on these datasets can incidentally learn to model dataset artifacts (e.g. preferring longer but unhelpful responses only due to their length). To alleviate this problem, we collect HelpSteer, a multi-attribute helpfulness dataset annotated for the various aspects that make responses helpful. Specifically, our 37k-sample dataset has annotations for correctness, coherence, complexity, and verbosity in addition to overall helpfulness of responses. Training Llama 2 70B using the HelpSteer dataset with SteerLM technique produces a model that scores 7.54 on MT Bench, which is currently the highest score for open models that do not require training data from more powerful models (e.g. GPT4). Out-of-distribution (OOD) detection is essential in identifying test samples that deviate from the in-distribution (ID) data upon which a standard network is trained, ensuring network robustness and reliability. This paper introduces OOD knowledge distillation, a pioneering learning framework applicable whether or not training ID data is available, given a standard network. This framework harnesses unknown OOD-sensitive knowledge from the standard network to craft a certain binary classifier adept at distinguishing between ID and OOD samples. To accomplish this, we introduce Confidence Amendment (CA), an innovative methodology that transforms an OOD sample into an ID one while progressively amending prediction confidence derived from the standard network. This approach enables the simultaneous synthesis of both ID and OOD samples, each accompanied by an adjusted prediction confidence, thereby facilitating the training of a binary classifier sensitive to OOD. Theoretical analysis provides bounds on the generalization error of the binary classifier, demonstrating the pivotal role of confidence amendment in enhancing OOD sensitivity. Extensive experiments spanning various datasets and network architectures confirm the efficacy of the proposed method in detecting OOD samples.

Due to its intrinsic ability to combat the double fading effect, the active intelligent reflective surface (IRS) becomes popular. The main feature of active IRS must be supplied by power, and the problem of how to allocate the total power between base station (BS) and IRS to fully explore the rate gain achieved by power allocation (PA) to remove the rate gap between existing PA strategies and optimal exhaustive search (ES) arises naturally. First, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) expression is derived to be a function of PA factor beta [0, 1]. Then, to improve the rate performance of the conventional gradient ascent (GA), an equal-spacing-multiple-point-initialization GA (ESMPI-GA) method is proposed. Due to its slow linear convergence from iterative GA, the proposed ESMPI-GA is high-complexity. Eventually, to reduce this high complexity, a low-complexity closed-form PA method with third-order Taylor expansion (TTE) centered at point beta0 = 0.5 is proposed. Simulation results show that the proposed ESMPI-GA and TTE obviously outperform existing methods like equal PA.
