51. Effects of summer shield supplementation on growth performance, nutrient utilisation, and plasma lipid profiles in broiler chickens

Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of herb mixture (summer shield) supplementation on growth performance, nutrient utilisation, and plasma lipid profiles in broiler chickens. Thirty-six male chicks at 15 days of age were divided into three groups with three replicates of four birds. The control group of chicks was fed a basal diet and the remaining two groups of chicks were fed the basal diet supplemented with summer shield at a concentration of 1 g/kg or 2 g/kg, respectively, until 37 days of age. Although feed intake was not different among the three groups, both body weight gain and breast muscle weight were increased in chicks fed a summer shield-supplemented diet. Summer shield supplementation decreased abdominal fat weight and consequently feed efficiency was improved. Both protein and fat utilisation was improved in chickens fed a summer shield-supplemented diet although dry matter content was not influenced. In addition, summer shield supplementation improved plasma lipid profiles, i.e., total cholesterol, triglyceride, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol were decreased, whereas high-density lipoprotein cholesterol was increased. Furthermore, summer shield supplementation increased total protein, albumin, and globulin levels in plasma, while neither glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase nor glutamate pyruvate transaminase were affected. These results suggest that summer shield supplementation has positive effects on growth performance, nutrient utilisation, and plasma lipid profiles in broiler chickens.

Abstract

In gymnastics, there is a problem in which Japanese athletes who perform well in Japan are unable to perform as well as they would like in practice or competitions overseas. The manufacturer of an apparatus used varies depending on competitions, and the feel of an apparatus may differ from the apparatus normally used in practice, it is difficult to perform as usual. It is necessary for athletes to improve their own technique to perform well, and how to use an apparatus is also an important factor, especially in horizontal bar competitions. Because of different types of an apparatus, athletes who perform well in domestic competitions tend to be unable to perform as well as they would like, and their scores do not improve. As can be seen from the differences in the feeling of use that athletes feel during competition, structural characteristics of each manufacturer's apparatus can’t be accurately evaluated. FIG Apparatus Norms is difficult to measure, so if it is possible to accurately evaluate the feeling felt by athletes, it may be possible to further minimize the differences between apparatus manufacturers, leading to improved skills and higher scores in competitions. In this paper, we conduct a quasi-static load test with the bar displacement every 15[deg] from the gravity direction to the horizontal direction on a gymnastics horizontal bar apparatus. Based on the results, we will investigate quantitative evaluation methods for the structural characteristics of a gymnastics horizontal bar apparatus. We will also examine the effects of cables tension on characteristics of a gymnastics horizontal bar apparatus using evaluation methods.

Abstract

In this study, we focus on the numerical solution method for the optimal control problem with equilibrium constraints (OCPEC).It is extremely challenging to solve OCPEC owing to the absence of constraint regularity and strictly feasible interior points. To solve OCPEC efficiently, we first relax the discretized OCPEC to recover the constraint regularity and then map its Karush--Kuhn--Tucker (KKT) conditions into a perturbed system of equations. Subsequently, we propose a novel two-stage solution method, called the non-interior-point continuation method, to solve the perturbed system. In the first stage, a non-interior-point method, which solves the perturbed system using the Newton method and globalizes convergence using a dedicated merit function, is employed. In the second stage, a predictor-corrector continuation method is utilized to track the solution trajectory as a function of the perturbed parameter, starting at the solution obtained in the first stage. The proposed method regularizes the KKT matrix and does not enforce iterates to remain in the feasible interior, which mitigates the numerical difficulties of solving OCPEC. Convergence properties are analyzed under certain assumptions. Numerical experiments demonstrate that the proposed method can accurately track the solution trajectory while demanding significantly less computation time compared to the interior-point method.

Abstract

Intraperitoneal tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are involved in evading anti-tumor immunity and promoting the peritoneal metastasis (PM) of gastric cancer (GC). Oncolytic viruses are known to induce the activation of host anti-tumor immunity in addition to tumor lysis. This study investigated whether a wild-type p53-loading telomerase-specific oncolytic adenovirus (OBP-702) could elicit the remodeling of intraperitoneal macrophages and enhance the efficacy of immune therapy. Increased numbers of CD163 TAMs and few CD8+ lymphocytes were immunohistochemically observed in clinical samples with PM, which suggested that TAMs were associated with the suppression of anti-tumor immunity. OBP-702 induced immunogenic cell death and upregulated PD-L1 expression in human and murine GC cell lines. Intraperitoneal administration of OBP-702 increased recruitment of CD8+ lymphocytes into the PM via the functional remodeling of intraperitoneal macrophages from TAM toward a pro-inflammatory phenotype, resulting in significantly suppressed tumor growth for the in vivo model. Furthermore, the combination of intraperitoneal OBP-702 with anti-programmed cell death-1 antibody enhanced anti-tumor immunity and prolonged the survival of mice bearing PM. Intraperitoneal immunotherapy using OBP-702 restores anti-tumor immunity via the remodeling of intraperitoneal macrophages in addition to direct tumor lysis and cooperates with immune checkpoint inhibitors to suppress PM in GC.

Abstract

The aged care sector in Australia faces significant challenges. While many of these issues have been clearly identified, their urgency has been further highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic. Technology such as in-home monitoring is one way to address some of these challenges. However, the efficacy of technology must be considered together with its implementation and running costs to ensure that there is a return on investment, and it is economically viable as a solution. A pilot program was run in-home monitoring system to test the efficacy of this system. This paper focuses on an economic analysis to better understand the financial viability of such systems. Using a secondary analysis approach, the findings identified that revenue could be generated by providing carers with additional services such as real-time monitoring of the client, which can foster deeper relationships with the customer, along with savings of healthcare costs to carers, service providers and Government. Savings are related to the earlier intervention of critical events that are identified by the system, as delays in treatment of some critical events can create much more severe and costly health outcomes. Further health costs savings can be made via trend analysis which can show more nuanced health deterioration that is often missed. The implementation of preventative measures via this identification can reduce the chances of critical events occurring which have much higher costs. Overall, monitoring systems lead to a transition from a reactive to a preventative services offering, delivering more targeted and personalised care., Comment: The Paper is accepted to publish in a journal

Abstract

The asteroid (3200) Phaethon is known to be the parent body of the Geminids, although meteor showers are commonly associated with the activity of periodic comets. What is most peculiar to the asteroid is its comet-like activity in the ejection of micrometer-sized dust particles at every perihelion passage, while the activity of the asteroid has never been identified outside the near-perihelion zone at $0.14~\mathrm{au}$ from the Sun. From the theoretical point of view, we argue that the activity of the asteroid is well explained by the electrostatic lofting of micrometer-sized dust particles with the aid of mobile alkali ions at high temperatures. The mass-loss rates of micrometer-sized particles from the asteroid in our model is entirely consistent with the values inferred from visible observations of Phaethon's dust tail. For millimeter-sized particles, we predict three orders of magnitudes higher mass-loss rates, which could also account for the total mass of the Geminid meteoroid stream by the electrostatic lofting mechanism., Comment: 7 pages. 2 figures, to appear in Icarus Letters

72. Whole-body model predictive control with rigid contacts via online switching time optimization

Abstract

This study presents a whole-body model predictive control (MPC) of robotic systems with rigid contacts, under a given contact sequence using online switching time optimization (STO). We treat robot dynamics with rigid contacts as a switched system and formulate an optimal control problem of switched systems to implement the MPC. We utilize an efficient solution algorithm for the MPC problem that optimizes the switching times and trajectory simultaneously. The present efficient algorithm, unlike inefficient existing methods, enables online optimization as well as switching times. The proposed MPC with online STO is compared over the conventional MPC with fixed switching times, through numerical simulations of dynamic jumping motions of a quadruped robot. In the simulation comparison, the proposed MPC successfully controls the dynamic jumping motions in twice as many cases as the conventional MPC, which indicates that the proposed method extends the ability of the whole-body MPC. We further conduct hardware experiments on the quadrupedal robot Unitree A1 and prove that the proposed method achieves dynamic motions on the real robot., Comment: 8 pages, 10 figures. 86. Structure-Exploiting Newton-Type Method for Optimal Control of Switched Systems

Abstract

This study proposes an efficient Newton-type method for the optimal control of switched systems under a given mode sequence. A mesh-refinement-based approach is utilized to discretize continuous-time optimal control problems (OCPs) and formulate a nonlinear program (NLP), which guarantees the local convergence of a Newton-type method. A dedicated structure-exploiting algorithm (Riccati recursion) is proposed to perform a Newton-type method for the NLP efficiently because its sparsity structure is different from a standard OCP. The proposed method computes each Newton step with linear time-complexity for the total number of discretization grids as the standard Riccati recursion algorithm. Additionally, the computation is always successful if the solution is sufficiently close to a local minimum. Conversely, general quadratic programming (QP) solvers cannot accomplish this because the Hessian matrix is inherently indefinite. Moreover, a modification on the reduced Hessian matrix is proposed using the nature of the Riccati recursion algorithm as the dynamic programming for a QP subproblem to enhance the convergence. A numerical comparison is conducted with off-the-shelf NLP solvers, which demonstrates that the proposed method is up to two orders of magnitude faster. Abstract

The investigation of asteroids near the Sun is important for understanding the final evolutionary stage of primitive solar system objects. A near-Sun asteroid, (155140) 2005 UD, has orbital elements similar to those of (3200) Phaethon (the target asteroid for the JAXA's $DESTINY^+$ mission). We conducted photometric and polarimetric observations of 2005 UD and found that this asteroid exhibits a polarization phase curve similar to that of Phaethon over a wide range of observed solar phase angles ($ \alpha = 20 - 105^\circ $) but different from those of (101955) Bennu and (162173) Ryugu (asteroids composed of hydrated carbonaceous materials). At a low phase angle ($\alpha \lesssim 30^\circ$), the polarimetric properties of these near-Sun asteroids (2005 UD and Phaethon) are consistent with anhydrous carbonaceous chondrites, while the properties of Bennu are consistent with hydrous carbonaceous chondrites. We derived the geometric albedo, $ p_\mathrm{V} \sim 0.1 $ (in the range of 0.088-0.109); mean $ V $-band absolute magnitude, $ H_\mathrm{V} = 17.54 \pm 0.02 $; synodic rotational period, $ T_\mathrm{rot} = 5.2388 \pm 0.0022 $ hours (the two-peaked solution is assumed); and effective mean diameter, $ D_\mathrm{eff} = 1.32 \pm 0.06 $ km. At large phase angles ($ \alpha \gtrsim 80^\circ$), the polarization phase curve are likely explained by the dominance of large grains and the paucity of small micron-sized grains. We conclude that the polarimetric similarity of these near-Sun asteroids can be attributed to the intense solar heating of carbonaceous materials around their perihelia, where large anhydrous particles with small porosity could be produced by sintering., Comment: 15 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication in Monthly Notices of Royal Astronomical Society (MNRAS)

Abstract

The demand for high-speed and highly efficient optical communication techniques has been rapidly growing due to the ever-increasing volume of data traffic. As well as the digital coherent communication used for core and metro networks, intensity modulation and direct detection (IM-DD) are still promising schemes in intra/inter data centers thanks to their low latency, high reliability, and good cost performance. In this work, we study a microresonator-based frequency comb as a potential light source for future IM-DD optical systems where applications may include replacing individual stabilized lasers with a continuous laser driven microresonator. Regarding comb line powers and spectral intervals, we compare a modulation instability comb and a soliton microcomb and provide a quantitative analysis with regard to telecom applications. Our experimental demonstration achieved a forward error correction (FEC) free operation of bit-error rate (BER) <10^(-9) with a 1.45 Tbps capacity using a total of 145 lines over the entire C-band and revealed the possibility of soliton microcomb-based ultra-dense wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) with a simple, cost-effective IM-DD scheme, with a view to future practical use in data centers., Comment: 5 figures
