A espécie vegetal Vasconcellea quercifolia A. St.-Hil. é nativa do Brasil, promissora para a agricultura, com grande importância ecológica e grande consumo em algumas regiões. Neste estudo, objetivou-se analisar a fenologia reprodutiva e a fenologia vegetativa em uma população natural da espécie. Foram realizados levantamentos durante 25 meses, observando-se, aleatoriamente, 12 indivíduos da espécie, na Fazenda Lageado da Faculdade de Ciências Agronômicas, na cidade de Botucatu, estado de São Paulo, Brasil. Os métodos de observação foram: índice de atividade fenológica (sincronia) e índice de Fournier (presença da fenofase). Os resultados foram submetidos à correlação de Spearman. Os eventos fenológicos da espécie apresentaram alta sincronia. Frutificação e temperatura média apresentaram forte correlação positiva; repouso vegetativo e temperatura apresentaram forte correlação negativa. Quanto às fenofases, a brotação começou em agosto e terminou em novembro. A queda de folhas iniciou em dezembro – a planta vai gradativamente perdendo as folhas até estar 100% desfolhada no mês de junho. Os meses de novembro e dezembro apresentaram as maiores taxas de floração. Os primeiros frutos apareceram em outubro e os últimos frutos maduros foram vistos em maio; o pico da frutificação ocorreu em janeiro e fevereiro. Essa é uma espécie sincrônica que precisa do frio do inverno para quebrar a dormência das gemas para que a brotação ocorra. Estudos agronômicos, ecológicos, químicos e nutricionais são necessários para fortalecer o uso de espécies nativas com potencial econômico, os quais também podem contribuir para a preservação de seus hábitats.

Abstract Gaucher and Fabry diseases are lysosomal storage disorders in which deficient enzyme activity leads to pathological accumulation of sphingolipids. These diseases have a broad phenotypic presentation. Musculoskeletal symptoms and pain complaints are frequently reported by patients. Thus, rheumatologists can be contacted by these patients, contributing to the correct diagnosis, earlier indication of appropriate treatment and improvement of their prognosis. This review describes important concepts about Gaucher and Fabry diseases that rheumatologists should understand to improve patients’ quality of life and change the natural history of these diseases.

Abstract Background Dating violence in adolescence is a serious public health issue due to its significant impact on mental health and its significant predictive value for intimate partner violence in adulthood. Universal and selective programs can contribute to the prevention of this issue. Nonetheless, there are few selective programs with evidence of feasibility in contexts of social vulnerability. Objective The present study examined evidence of the feasibility of a dating violence selective prevention program for girls in foster care by monitoring process indicators during the implementation phase of a pilot study. Methods The program, originally designed for adolescents in the general population, was adapted to the context of girls at risk. The pilot study was conducted in the southern region of Brazil and involved the participation of six girls aged between 15 and 17. Both quantitative and qualitative measures were used, and the data were explored through frequency analysis, the Jacobson and Truax test, and content analysis. Results The study identified favorable evidence regarding demand, acceptability, and adaptation of the intervention. On the other hand, contextual and institutional barriers hindered recruitment and restricted the reach of the intervention. Conclusion Although there are changes to be made to improve the program’s applicability in its specific context, it should be emphasized that this study provides evidence to maintain the methods and content of the intervention.

Abstract Despite their rarity, Lyme disease and Whipple’s disease are of significant importance in rheumatology, as both can manifest as chronic arthritis, presenting challenges in the differential diagnosis of inflammatory arthropathies. In Lyme disease, arthritis typically emerges as a late manifestation, usually occurring six months after the onset of erythema migrans. The predominant presentation involves mono- or oligoarthritis of large joints, with a chronic or remitting-recurrent course. Even with appropriate antimicrobial treatment, arthritis may persist due to inadequate immunological control triggered by the disease. In contrast, Whipple’s disease may present with a migratory and intermittent seronegative poly- or oligoarthritis of large joints, preceding classic gastrointestinal symptoms by several years. Both disorders, particularly Whipple’s disease, can be misdiagnosed as more common autoimmune rheumatic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthritis. Epidemiology is crucial in suspecting and diagnosing Lyme disease, as the condition is transmitted by ticks prevalent in specific areas of the United States, Europe, and Asia. On the contrary, the causative agent of Whipple’s disease is widespread in the environment, yet invasive disease is rare and likely dependent on host genetic factors. In addition to erythema migrans in Lyme disease and gastrointestinal manifestations in Whipple’s disease, neurological and cardiac involvement can further complicate the course of both. This article offers a comprehensive review of the epidemiological, pathophysiological, clinical, and therapeutic aspects of both diseases.

Scientists from different disciplines at ETH Zurich are developing a dynamic, harmonised, and user-centred earthquake risk framework for Switzerland, relying on a continuously evolving earthquake catalogue generated by the Swiss Seismological Service (SED) using the national seismic networks. This framework uses all available information to assess seismic risk at various stages and facilitates widespread dissemination and communication of the resulting information. Earthquake risk products and services include operational earthquake (loss) forecasting (OE(L)F), earthquake early warning (EEW), ShakeMaps, rapid impact assessment (RIA), structural health monitoring (SHM), and recovery and rebuilding efforts (RRE). Standardisation of products and workflows across various applications is essential for achieving broad adoption, universal recognition, and maximum synergies. In the Swiss dynamic earthquake risk framework, the harmonisation of products into seamless solutions that access the same databases, workflows, and software is a crucial component. A user-centred approach utilising quantitative and qualitative social science tools like online surveys and focus groups is a significant innovation featured in all products and services. Here we report on the key considerations and developments of the framework and its components. This paper may serve as a reference guide for other countries wishing to establish similar services for seismic risk reduction.

A short introduction on the principles of laser-matter interaction, material evaporation, plume formation, its reactivity with suitable gases and finally deposition are here illustrated. Experiments by mass spectrometry of formation of clusters, precursors of thin films and nanoparticles of oxides, nitrides and carbides by pulsed laser ablation (PLA) are reported. Pulsed laser ablation of targets combined with an intense atomic source produced by radiofrequency (RF), are discussed in terms of generating chemical reactions or supplying the loss of volatile components.

A laser spectroscopic and mass spectrometric study of ionic and molecular clusters of biological interest is reported. The molecules of interest and their aggregates were generated in a supersonic beam and analyzed by mass resolved resonant two photon absorption and ionization (R2PI) and by collision induced mass spectrometry (CID-MS). The absence of the solvent allows to study these systems in the isolated state free of undesired solvent effects which may level off the differences in their properties. The gas phase results have been compared to theoretical estimates of the structure and stability of the systems under investigation.

Infections of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) have triggered a global pandemic with millions of deaths worldwide. Herein, the synthesis of functionalized Re(i) tricarbonyl complexes as inhibitors of the SARS-CoV-2 main protease, also referred to as the 3-chymotrypsin-like protease (3CLpro), is presented. The metal complexes were found to inhibit the activity of the enzyme with IC50 values in the low micromolar range. Mass spectrometry revealed that the metal complexes formed a coordinate covalent bond with the enzyme. Chiral separation of the enantiomers of the lead compound showed that one enantiomer was significantly more active than the other, consistent with specific binding and much like that observed for conventional organic small molecule inhibitors and druglike compounds. Evaluation of the lead compound against SARS-CoV-2 in a cell-based infection assay confirmed enantiospecific inhibition against the virus. This study represents a significant advancement in the use of metal complexes as coordinate covalent inhibitors of enzymes, as well as a novel starting point for the development of novel SARS-CoV-2 inhibitors.

The worldwide COVID-19 pandemic caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 urgently demands novel direct antiviral treatments. The main protease (Mpro) and papain-like protease (PLpro) are attractive drug targets among coronaviruses due to their essential role in processing the polyproteins translated from the viral RNA. In this study, we virtually screened 688 naphthoquinoidal compounds and derivatives against Mpro of SARS-CoV-2. Twenty-four derivatives were selected and evaluated in biochemical assays against Mpro using a novel fluorogenic substrate. In parallel, these compounds were also assayed with SARS-CoV-2 PLpro. Four compounds inhibited Mpro with half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values between 0.41 μM and 9.0 μM. In addition, three compounds inhibited PLpro with IC50 ranging from 1.9 μM to 3.3 μM. To verify the specificity of Mpro and PLpro inhibitors, our experiments included an assessment of common causes of false positives such as aggregation, high compound fluorescence, and inhibition by enzyme oxidation. Altogether, we confirmed novel classes of specific Mpro and PLpro inhibitors. Molecular dynamics simulations suggest stable binding modes for Mpro inhibitors with frequent interactions with residues in the S1 and S2 pockets of the active site. For two PLpro inhibitors, interactions occur in the S3 and S4 pockets. In summary, our structure-based computational and biochemical approach identified novel naphthoquinonal scaffolds that can be further explored as SARS-CoV-2 antivirals.

Metals have been used in medicine since ancient times for the treatment of different ailments with various elements such as iron, gold and arsenic. Metal complexes have also been reported to show antibiotic and antiparasitic activity. In this context, we tested the antiparasitic potential of 10 organotin (IV) derivatives from 4-(4-methoxyphenylamino)-4 oxobutanoic acid (MS26) against seven eukaryotic pathogens of medical importance: Leishmania donovani, Trypanosoma cruzi, Trypanosoma brucei, Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia, Naegleria fowleri and Schistosoma mansoni. Among the compounds with and without antiparasitic activity, compound MS26Et3 stood out with a 50% effective concentration (EC50) of 0.21 and 0.19 µM against promastigotes and intracellular amastigotes of L. donovani, respectively, 0.24 µM against intracellular amastigotes of T. cruzi, 0.09 µM against T. brucei, 1.4 µM against N. fowleri and impaired adult S. mansoni viability at 1.25 µM. In terms of host/pathogen selectivity, MS26Et3 demonstrated relatively mild cytotoxicity toward host cells with a 50% viability concentration of 4.87 µM against B10R cells (mouse monocyte cell line), 2.79 µM against C2C12 cells (mouse myoblast cell line) and 1.24 µM against HEK923 cells (human embryonic kidney cell line). The selectivity index supports this molecule as a therapeutic starting point for a broad spectrum antiparasitic alternative. Proteomic analysis of host cells infected with L. donovani after exposure to MS26Et3 showed a reduced expression of Rab7, which may affect the fusion of the endosome with the lysosome, and, consequently, impairing the differentiation of L. donovani to the amastigote form. Future studies to investigate the molecular target(s) and mechanism of action of MS26Et3 will support its chemical optimization.

Reactive pulsed laser ablation is a very interesting method to deposit thin films of several materials and compounds such as oxides, nitrides, semiconductors and superconductors. This technique relies on photoablation of pure elements, or a mixture of materials, with simultaneous exposure to a reactive atmosphere. In the case of oxides, reactions between the laser vaporized metals and oxygen lead to the formation of intermediate complexes and finally to oxide thin films. The reactivity of the plume has been already studied by our group in other oxides and nitrides productions and ascertained by Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry measurements [1].

One and two-color, mass selected R2PI spectra of the S1←S0 transitions in the bare (+)-(R)- 1-phenyl-1-ethanol (ER) and its complexes with different solvent molecules (solv) (-)-(R)-2-butanol (BR) or (+)-(S)-2-butanol (BS), (—)-(R)-2-pentanol (TR) or (+)-(S)-2-pentanol ( TS) and (-)-(R)-2-butylamine (AR) or (+)-(S)-2-butylamine (AS), have been recorded after a supersonic molecular beam expansion. The one-color R2PI excitation spectra of the diastereomeric complexes are characterized by significant shifts of their band origin relative to that of bare ER. The extent and the direction of these spectral shifts are found to depend upon the structure and the configuration of solv and are attributed to different short-range interactions in the ground and excited states of the complexes. In analogy with other diastereomeric complexes, the phenomenological binding energy of the homochiral cluster is found to be greater than that of the heterochiral one. Preliminary measurements of excitation spectrum of (+)-(R)-1-Indanol (IR) is also reported.

Clusters between first-group metal ions and chiral α-aminophosphonic acids have been readily generated by Pulsed Laser Ablation (PLA) and by Electrospray Ionization (ESI) and their fragmentation investigated by mass spectrometry. The complexes studied have the general formula [Me(I)Cl2]+, where Me(I) is H, Li, Na, or K, C is (R)-(—)-(1-aminoethyl) phosphonic acid (ER) and (S)-(+)-(1-aminoethyl) phosphonic acid (ES), (1R)-(+)-(1-amino-2-methylpropyl) phosphonic acid (PR) and (1S)-(—)-(1-amino-2-methylpropyl) phosphonic acid (PS), (1R)-(-)-(1-amino-hexyl) phosphonic acid (HR) and (1S)-(+)-(1-amino-hexyl) phosphonic acid (HS), o-phospho-L-serine (SS) and o-phospho-D-serine (SR), and L is a reference α-aminophosphonic acid (E, P, H or S) of defined configuration. Collision induced dissociation (CID) of diastereomeric [Me(I)Cl2]+ complexes leads to fragmentation patterns characterized by [Me(I)Cl]+/[Me(I)L2]+ abundance ratios which depend upon the configuration of solute C. These different spectral features were correlated to the different stability of the diastereomeric [Me(I)CRL]+ and [Me(I)CSL]+ complexes in the gas phase.

ABSTRACT: Vegetable soybean has high nutritional value and offers functional benefits to human body. However, its use in cooking is still limited, mainly due to the lack of knowledge about its properties. In addition, the availability of cultivars for human consumption is reduced. Therefore, this study was conducted in Botucatu, Brazil, to assess the potential of grain soybean (GS) and dual-purpose soybean (DPS) cultivars for consumption as vegetable soybean (VS). Pods were harvested at R6 stage, and the contents of bioactive compounds (total phenolic compounds, flavonoids, antioxidant activity and proteins) and antinutritional components (nitrates, oxalate, alkaloids and tannins) were evaluated. The cultivars showed the same protein content, not differing statistically from each other, as well as for nitrate and oxalate. The content of phenolic compounds and total antioxidant activity of the SG cultivar differed statistically from the content of the DPS and VS cultivars, respectively. According to the results, the GS cultivar, with pods harvested at R6 stage, showed nutraceutical quality and contents of antinutritional compounds similar to those of the two cultivars proposed for the vegetable soybean.

Este estudo examinou a produção do cuidado nos serviços de saúde, adotando a metodologia participativa “rio da vida”. Realizado em uma comunidade ribeirinha no interior do Amazonas, a pesquisa utilizou essa abordagem reflexiva, envolvendo a criação de um rio com materiais artísticos, como lápis coloridos e cartolina. A técnica promoveu a proximidade com as histórias, trajetórias e empoderamento de agentes comunitários, usuários e cuidadores. Essa experiência profunda proporcionou insights sobre os desafios territoriais no acesso à saúde em situações urgentes. A gravação das narrativas durante os trabalhos coletivos serviu como método de coleta de dados, facilitando o diálogo entre a equipe de saúde e cuidadores; e enriquecendo a compreensão das dinâmicas regionais envolvidas no cuidado emergencial.

The Eurasian otter Lutra lutra faced a significant decline in Italy during the 20th century, leading to local extinctions. After fifty years of otter disappearance from the Tiber basin, this study documents a sighting near Rome, obtained during a long-term trail camera monitoring. The study area, Rio Moscio, offers a habitat rich in hygrophilous vegetation and diverse fauna, including other protected species such as the Italian wolf, the European wildcat, and the European polecat. The observed otter could either mark a potential range expansion or could challenge the presumed extinctions in this region, since it could be in dispersal from the closer known populations or an individual from a Tiber basin relict population. The study emphasises the need for continued monitoring and prompt future genetic analyses to obtain necessary insights for conserving otters in Central Italy.

ObjectiveInflammation has been associated with an increased risk for cancer development, while innate immune system activation could counteract the risk for malignancies. Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is a severe systemic inflammatory condition and also represents the archetype of innate immunity deregulation. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the risk for cancer development in FMF.MethodsThe risk ratio (RR) for malignancies was separately compared between FMF patients and fibromyalgia subjects, Still’s disease patients and Behçet’s disease patients. Clinical variables associated with cancer development in FMF patients were searched through binary logistic regression.Results580 FMF patients and 102 fibromyalgia subjects, 1012 Behçet’s disease patients and 497 Still’s disease patients were enrolled. The RR for the occurrence of malignant neoplasms was 0.26 (95% Confidence Interval [CI.] 0.10-0.73, p=0.006) in patients with FMF compared to fibromyalgia subjects; the RR for the occurrence of malignant cancer was 0.51 (95% CI. 0.23-1.16, p=0.10) in FMF compared to Still’s disease and 0.60 (95% CI. 0.29-1.28, p=0.18) in FMF compared to Behçet’s disease. At logistic regression, the risk of occurrence of malignant neoplasms in FMF patients was associated with the age at disease onset (β1 = 0.039, 95% CI. 0.001-0.071, p=0.02), the age at the diagnosis (β1 = 0.048, 95% CI. 0.039-0.085, p=0.006), the age at the enrolment (β1 = 0.05, 95% CI. 0.007-0.068, p=0.01), the number of attacks per year (β1 = 0.011, 95% CI. 0.001- 0.019, p=0.008), the use of biotechnological agents (β1 = 1.77, 95% CI. 0.43-3.19, p=0.009), the use of anti-IL-1 agents (β1 = 2.089, 95% CI. 0.7-3.5, p=0.002).ConclusionsThe risk for cancer is reduced in Caucasic FMF patients; however, when malignant neoplasms occur, this is more frequent in FMF cases suffering from a severe disease phenotype and presenting a colchicine-resistant disease.

We detected surface waves from two meteorite impacts on Mars. By measuring group velocity dispersion along the impact-lander path, we obtained a direct constraint on crustal structure away from the InSight lander. The crust north of the equatorial dichotomy had a shear wave velocity of approximately 3.2 kilometers per second in the 5- to 30-kilometer depth range, with little depth variation. This implies a higher crustal density than inferred beneath the lander, suggesting either compositional differences or reduced porosity in the volcanic areas traversed by the surface waves. The lower velocities and the crustal layering observed beneath the landing site down to a 10-kilometer depth are not a global feature. Structural variations revealed by surface waves hold implications for models of the formation and thickness of the martian crust.

Constraining the thermal and compositional state of the mantle is crucial for deciphering the formation and evolution of Mars. Mineral physics predicts that Mars' deep mantle is demarcated by a seismic discontinuity arising from the pressure-induced phase transformation of the mineral olivine to its higher-pressure polymorphs, making the depth of this boundary sensitive to both mantle temperature and composition. Here, we report on the seismic detection of a midmantle discontinuity using the data collected by NASA's InSight Mission to Mars that matches the expected depth and sharpness of the postolivine transition. In five teleseismic events, we observed triplicated P and S waves and constrained the depth of this discontinuity to be 1,006 [Formula: see text] 40 km by modeling the triplicated waveforms. From this depth range, we infer a mantle potential temperature of 1,605 [Formula: see text] 100 K, a result consistent with a crust that is 10 to 15 times more enriched in heat-producing elements than the underlying mantle. Our waveform fits to the data indicate a broad gradient across the boundary, implying that the Martian mantle is more enriched in iron compared to Earth. Through modeling of thermochemical evolution of Mars, we observe that only two out of the five proposed composition models are compatible with the observed boundary depth. Our geodynamic simulations suggest that the Martian mantle was relatively cold 4.5 Gyr ago (1,720 to 1,860 K) and are consistent with a present-day surface heat flow of 21 to 24 mW/m2.

Introduction: Surgical management of popliteal artery aneurysms has been described for half a century. Long term development of the excluded aneurysm sac in the popliteal segment however remains widely unknown, with only a few small series describing outcomes. Residual aneurysm perfusion has the potential to lead to serious complications. Report: A 63 year old man presents with skin and soft tissue necrosis of the right calf two years after proximal and distal aneurysm ligation and great saphenous vein bypass for a popliteal artery aneurysm. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance angiography show perfusion of the excluded aneurysm as well as extensive necrosis of the gastrocnemius muscle. Direct angiography of the aneurysm demonstrated retrograde aneurysm perfusion due to insufficient distal ligation with recurrent micro-embolisation to the calf via geniculate arteries. Coiling of the geniculate arteries was performed, plugging the connection to the tibiofibular trunk and embolisation of the aneurysm sac. After the intervention, no flow was seen in the aneurysm sac and the patient made full recovery. Discussion: Residual aneurysm sac perfusion can lead to complications long after successful aneurysm exclusion. Follow-up after surgery of popliteal aneurysms should include observation of the excluded aneurysm sac with control of residual blood flow. For persistent sac perfusion, aneurysm enlargement or symptoms, further treatment should be considered. Surgical aspects such as complete transection of the artery after aneurysm ligation or end to end anastomosis of the bypass may be considered, to prevent such complications.

To design user-centred and scientifically high-quality outreach products to inform about earthquake-related hazards and the associated risk, a close collaboration between the model developers and communication experts is needed. In this contribution, we present the communication strategy developed to support the public release of the first openly available European Seismic Risk Model and the updated European Seismic Hazard Model. The backbone of the strategy was the communication concept in which the overall vision, communication principles, target audiences (including personas), key messages, and products were defined. To fulfil the end-users' needs, we conducted two user testing surveys: one for the interactive risk map viewer and one for the risk poster with a special emphasis on the European earthquake risk map. To further ensure that the outreach products are not only understandable and attractive for different target groups but also adequate from a scientific point of view, a two-fold feedback mechanism involving experts in the field was implemented. Through a close collaboration with a network of communication specialists from other institutions supporting the release, additional feedback and exchange of knowledge was enabled. Our insights, gained as part of the release process, can support others in developing user-centred products reviewed by experts in the field to inform about hazard and risk models.

Squaring the Triangle of Cultural Property Law. Seventy Years of UNIDROIT’s Work A lot has been written about the “Eternal Triangle of Cultural Property Law”, the sale of a cultural object by a non-owner, and the innovative provisions of Article 4 of the 1995 UNIDROIT Convention on Stolen or Illegally Exported Cultural Objects. This article aims to demonstrate how almost 70 years of UNIDROIT’s work in the field have shaped the principles regulating a non domino sales of stolen cultural objects. The article focuses on the work conducted by UNIDROIT; from the drafting of the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict and the draft Convention providing a Uniform Law on the Acquisition in Good Faith of Corporeal Movables to the adoption of the 1995 UNIDROIT Convention; and examines its impact on domestic legislation and case law.

Abstract Population displacement is one of the most common consequences of disasters, and it can profoundly affect communities and territories. However, gaining an accurate measure of the size of displacement in the days and weeks following a major disaster can be extremely difficult. This study uses aggregated Call Detail Records as an inexpensive and efficient technique to measure post-disaster displacement in four Italian regions affected by repeated earthquakes in 2016–2017. By comparing post-disaster mobile phone count with a forecast computed before the earthquake hit, we can compute an index of change in the presence of mobile phones (MPE). This measure, obtained thanks to advanced analytical techniques, provides a reliable indication of the effect of the earthquake in terms of immediate and medium-term displacement. We test this measure against census data and in combination with other datasets. Looking into available data on economic activities and requests for financial support to rebuild damaged buildings, we can explain MPE and identify significant factors affecting population displacement. It is possible to apply this innovative methodology to other disaster scenarios and use it by policymakers who want to understand the determinants of population displacement.

Conventional aluminum recycling consumes a substantial amount of energy and has a negative impact on secondary alloys. To address this challenging topic, Friction Stir Extrusion has been patented, which represents an innovative solid-state recycling technique that enables the direct extrusion of components from recyclable materials. In recent years, developing simulation models for Friction Stir Extrusion has become essential for gaining a deeper understanding of its underlying physics. Simultaneously, control of the microstructure evolution of extruded profiles is required, as it has a considerable influence on mechanical properties. This research involves a single Lagrangian model, adapted for both the FSE and the traditional hot extrusion processes. The simulations explored various rotational speeds and feed rates, revealing significant effects on grain size and bonding quality. To this model were applied different sub-routines, to investigate the impact of the FSE process with respect to the traditional hot extrusion process in terms of energy demands, quality and microstructure of the extruded pieces. The findings demonstrated that optimal grain refinement occurs at intermediate rotational speeds (600–800 rpm) combined with lower feed rates (1 mm/s). The energy analyses indicated that FSE requires lower total energy compared to traditional hot extrusion, primarily due to the reduced axial thrust and more efficient thermal management. As a result, it was possible to ensure the ability of the developed simulative model to be fully adapted for both processes and to forecast the microstructural changes directly during the process and not only at the end of the extrusion. The study concludes that FSE is a highly efficient method for producing high-quality extruded rods, with the developed simulation model providing valuable insights for process optimization. The model’s adaptability to various starting materials and conditions highlights its potential for broader applications in extrusion technology.

Agricultural wastes (AWs) generated from farming practices pose environmental threats if not properly disposed of or recycled through biological processes. Mushroom production presents a sustainable solution by converting AWs into highly nutritious food while mitigating environmental pollution. However, there is a lack of comprehensive frameworks to assist farmers and businesses in visually understanding the essential elements of a circular bioeconomy, such as mushroom production’s potential interconnections and impacts on value creation. This study theoretically elaborates on a framework using the Business Model Canvas to structure mushroom production across the following key business areas: customers, supply chains, infrastructure, and economic viability. We discuss these aspects within the context of recent studies. In addition to guiding farmers and businesses, we align mushroom production with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the supply chain, underscoring the importance of developing business models to foster the growth of circular economies and sustainability.
