Abstract Background Pulpotomy is the surgical removal of the entire coronal pulp with preservation of the radicular pulp vitality. The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the clinical and radiographic success of pulpotomy of primary molars using two materials, biodentine and calcium hydroxide. Methods Records of 400 primary molars in 360 paediatric participants (mean age: 7.5 ± 1.6 years, ranging from 5 to 9 years) with dental caries who required pulp therapy were included in this study. Parathyroid carcinoma (PC) is usually associated with severe symptomatic primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) and accounts for less than 1% of all cases of PHPT and approximately 0.005% of all cancers. PC most commonly occurs as a sporadic disease and somatic CDC73 mutations can be detected in up to 80% of cases. Approximately 30% of patients harbor a germline mutation of the CDC73 gene. Preoperative diagnosis of PC is difficult because no disease-specific markers are available, and PC should be suspected in patients with severe hypercalcemia and end-organ complications. The diagnosis is based on the evidence of invasive tumor growth at histology and/or metastases. En bloc resection of the tumor, together with the ipsilateral thyroid lobe and adjacent structures, should be performed by an experienced surgeon when PC is suspected. This surgical approach reduces the risk of recurrence and metastasis and offers the highest chance of cure. Nonetheless, PC has a recurrence rate of 40% to 60% and, if feasible, multiple surgical procedures should be performed. When surgery is no longer an option, medical treatment is aimed to reduce hypercalcemia and target organ complications. Targeted agents have been effectively used in a few cases. We describe herein a patient with severe PHPT due to PC and provide a systematic diagnostic and treatment approach. A thorough review of the medical history, a typical clinical and biochemical phenotype and, in some cases, the revision of the histological examination provide the clues for the diagnosis of PC. The dimeric β‐diketiminato calcium hydride, [(DippBDI)CaH]2 (DippBDI = HC{(Me)CN‐2,6‐i‐Pr2C6H3}2), reacts with ortho‐, meta‐ or para‐tolyl mercuric compounds to afford hydridoarylcalcium compounds, [(DippBDI)2Ca2(μ‐H)(μ‐o‐,m‐,p‐tolyl)], in which dimer propagation occurs either via μ2‐η1‐η1 or μ2‐η1‐η6 bridging between the calcium centers. In each case, the orientation and hapticity of the aryl units is dependent upon the position of the methyl substituent. While wholly organometallic meta‐ and para‐tolyl dimers, [(DippBDI)Ca(m‐tolyl)]2 and [(DippBDI)Ca(p‐tolyl)]2, can be prepared and are stable, the ortho‐tolyl isomer is prone to isomerization to a calcium benzyl analog. Computational analysis of this latter process with density functional theory (DFT) highlights an unusual mechanism invoking the generation of an intermediate dicalcium species in which the group 2 centers are bridged by a toluene dianion formed by the formal attachment of the original hydride anion to the initially generated ortho‐tolyl substituent. Use of a more sterically encumbered aryl substituent, {3,5‐t‐Bu2C6H3}, facilitates the selective formation of [(DippBDI)Ca(μ‐H)(μ‐3,5‐t‐Bu2C6H3)Ca(DippBDI)], which can be converted into the unsymmetrically‐substituted σ‐aryl calcium complexes, [(DippBDI)Ca(μ‐Ph)(μ‐3,5‐t‐Bu2C6H3)Ca(DippBDI)] and [(DippBDI)Ca(μ‐p‐tolyl)(μ‐3,5‐t‐Bu2C6H3)Ca(DippBDI)] by reaction with the appropriate mercuric diaryl. Conversion of [(DippBDI)Ca(H)(Ph)Ca(DippBDI)] to afford [{{(DippBDI)Ca}2(μ2‐Cl)}2(C6H5‐C6H5)], comprising a biphenyl dianion, is also reported. Although this latter transformation is serendipitous, AIM analysis highlights that, in a related manner to the ortho‐tolyl to benzyl isomerization, the requisite C–C coupling may be facilitated in an "across dimer" fashion by the experimentally‐observed polyhapto engagement of the aryl substituents with each calcium. We have re‐examined the reactivity of the manganese dinitrogen complex [Cp(CO)2Mn(N2)] (1, Cp=η5‐cyclopentadienyl, C5H5) with phenylithium (PhLi). By combining experiment and density functional theory (DFT), we have found that, unlike previously reported, the direct nucleophilic attack of the carbanion onto coordinated dinitrogen does not occur. Instead, PhLi reacts with one of the CO ligands to provide an anionic acylcarbonyl dinitrogen metallate [Cp(CO)(N2)MnCOPh]Li (3) that is stable only below −40 °C. Full characterization of 3 (including single crystal X‐ray diffraction) was performed. This complex decomposes quickly above −20 °C with N2 loss to give a phenylate complex [Cp(CO)2MnPh]Li (2). The latter compound was erroneously formulated as an anionic diazenido compound [Cp(CO)2MnN(Ph)=N]Li in earlier reports, ruling out the claimed and so‐far unique behavior of the N2 ligand in 1. DFT calculations were run to explore both the hypothesized and the experimentally verified reactivity of 1 with PhLi and are fully consistent with our results. Continuous measurements of particle number size distributions in the size range from 10 nm to 800 nm were performed from 2015 to 2019 at the ECO Environmental-Climate Observatory of Lecce (Global Atmosphere Watch Programme/Aerosol, Clouds and Trace Gases Research Infrastructure (GAW/ACTRIS) regional station). The main objectives of this work were to investigate the daily, weekly and seasonal trends of particle number concentrations and their dependence on meteorological parameters gathering information on potential sources. The highest total number concentrations were observed during autumn-winter with average values nearly twice as high as in summer. More than 52% of total particle number concentration consisted of Aitken mode (20 nm < particle diameter (Dp) < 100 nm) particles followed by accumulation (100 nm < Dp < 800 nm) and nucleation (10 nm < Dp < 20 nm) modes representing, respectively, 27% and 21% of particles. The total number concentration was usually significantly higher during workdays than during weekends/holidays in all years, showing a trend likely correlated with local traffic activities. The number concentration of each particle mode showed a characteristic daily variation that was different in cold and warm seasons. The highest concentrations of the Aitken and accumulation particle mode were observed in the morning and the late evening, during typical rush hour traffic times, highlighting that the two-particle size ranges are related, although there was significant variation in the number concentrations. The peak in the number concentrations of the nucleation mode observed in the midday of spring and summer can be attributed to the intensive formation of new particles from gaseous precursors. Based on Pearson coefficients between particle number concentrations and meteorological parameters, temperature, and wind speed had significant negative relationships with the Aitken and accumulation particle number concentrations, whereas relative humidity was positively correlated. No significant correlations were found for the nucleation particle number concentrations.
