Abstract

We present results on dielectron production in Ar+KCl collisions at 1.76A GeV. For the first time $\omega$ mesons could be reconstructed in a heavy-ion reaction at a bombarding energy which is well below the production threshold in free nucleon-nucleon collisions. The omega multiplicity has been extracted and compared to the yields of other particles, in particular of the phi meson. At intermediate e+e- invariant masses, we find a strong enhancement of the pair yield over a reference spectrum from elementary nucleon-nucleon reactions suggesting the onset of non-trivial effects of the nuclear medium. Transverse-mass spectra and angular distributions have been reconstructed in three invariant mass bins. In the former unexpectedly large slopes are found for high-mass pairs. The latter, in particular the helicity-angle distributions, are largely consistent with expectations for a pair cocktail dominated at intermediate masses by delta Dalitz decays., Comment: 16 pages, 14 figures, accepted for publication by Phys. Abstract

The preliminary results on charged pion production in np collisions at an incident beam energy of 1.25 GeV measured with HADES are presented. The np reactions were isolated in dp collisions at 1.25 GeV/u using the Forward Wall hodoscope, which allowed to register spectator protons. The results for np -> pppi-, np -> nppi+pi- and np -> dpi+pi- channels are compared with OPE calculations. Abstract

We present transverse momentum spectra, rapidity distribution and multiplicity of Lambda-hyperons measured with the HADES spectrometer in the reaction Ar(1.76A GeV)+KCl. The yield of Xi- is calculated from our previously reported Xi-/(Lambda+Sigma0) ratio and compared to other strange particle multiplicities. Employing a strangeness balance equation the multiplicities of the yet unmeasured charged Sigma hyperons can be estimated. Finally a statistical hadronization model is used to fit the yields of pi-, K+, K0s, K-, phi, Lambda and Xi-. The resulting chemical freeze-out temperature of T=(76+-2) MeV is compared to the measured slope parameters obtained from fits to the transverse mass distributions of the particles.

Abstract

We present the transverse momentum spectra and rapidity distributions of $\pi^{-}$ and K$^0_S$ in Ar+KCl reactions at a beam kinetic energy of 1.756 A GeV measured with the spectrometer HADES. The reconstructed K$^0_S$ sample is characterized by good event statistics for a wide range in momentum and rapidity. We compare the experimental $\pi^{-}$ and K$^0_S$ distributions to predictions by the IQMD model. The model calculations show that K$^0_S$ at low tranverse momenta constitute a particularly well suited tool to investigate the kaon in-medium potential. Our K$^0_S$ data suggest a strong repulsive in-medium K$^0$ potential of about 40 MeV strength., Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures, accepted by Phys. Rev. C

Abstract

Results on $\Lambda$p femtoscopy are reported at the lowest energy so far. At a beam energy of 1.76A~GeV, the reaction Ar+KCl was studied with the High Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES) at SIS18/GSI. A high-statistics and high-purity $\Lambda$ sample was collected, allowing for the investigation of $\Lambda$ p correlations at small relative momenta. The experimental correlation function is compared to corresponding model calculations allowing the determination of the space-time extent of the $\Lambda$p emission source. The $\Lambda$p source radius is found slightly smaller than the pp correlation radius for a similar collis ion system. The present $\Lambda$p radius is significantly smaller than that found for Au+Au/Pb+Pb collisio ns in the AGS, SPS and RHIC energy domains, but larger than that observed for electroproduction from He. Taking into account all available data, we find the $\Lambda$p source radius to increase almost linearly with the number of participants to the power of one-third., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Phys. Abstract

Systematic investigations of dilepton production are performed at the SIS accelerator of GSI with the HADES spectrometer. The goal of this program is a detailed understanding of di-electron emission from hadronic systems at moderate temperatures and densities. New results obtained in HADES experiments focussing on electron pair production in elementary collisions are reported here. They pave the way to a better understanding of the origin of the so-called excess pairs earlier on observed in heavy-ion collisions by the DLS collaboration and lately confirmed in two measurements of the HADES collaboration using C+C and Ar+KCl collisions. Abstract

We report measurements of electron pair production in elementary p+p and d+p reactions at 1.25 GeV/u with the HADES spectrometer. For the first time, the electron pairs were reconstructed for n+p reactions by detecting the proton spectator from the deuteron breakup. We find that the yield of electron pairs with invariant mass Me+e- > 0.15 GeV/c2 is about an order of magnitude larger in n+p reactions as compared to p+p. A comparison to model calculations demonstrates that the production mechanism is not sufficiently described yet. The electron pair spectra measured in C+C reactions are compatible with a superposition of elementary n+p and p+p collisions, leaving little room for additional electron pair sources in such light collision systems., Comment: 11 pages, 2 figures, \usepackage{epsfig}

Abstract

We report first results on a deep sub-threshold production of the doubly strange hyperon $\Xi^-$ in a heavy-ion reaction. At a beam energy of 1.76A GeV the reaction Ar+KCl was studied with the High Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES) at SIS18/GSI. A high-statistics and high-purity $\Lambda$ sample was collected, allowing for the investigation of the decay channel $\Xi^- \to \Lambda \pi^-$. The deduced $\Xi^-/(\Lambda+\Sigma^0)$ production ratio of $(5.6 \pm 1.2 ^{+1.8}_{-1.7})\cdot 10^{-3}$ is significantly larger than available model predictions., Comment: 4 pages, including 4 figures

Abstract

Results of a study of charged pion production in 12C+12C collisions at incident beam energies of 1A GeV and 2A GeV, and 40Ar+natKCl at 1.76AGeV, using the spectrometer HADES at GSI, are presented. We have performed a measurement of the transverse momentum distributions of pi+- mesons covering a fairly large rapidity interval, in case of the C+C collision system for the first time. Abstract

We present the results of a study of charged pion production in 12C + 12C collisions at incident beam energies of 1A GeV and 2A GeV using the HADES spectrometer at GSI. The main emphasis of the HADES program is on the dielectron signal from the early phase of the collision. Here, however, we discuss the data with respect to the emission of charged hadrons, specifically the production of pi+- mesons, which are related to neutral pions representing a dominant contribution to the dielectron yield. We have performed the first large-angular range measurement of the distribution of pi+- mesons for the 12C + 12C collision system covering a fairly large rapidity interval. The pion yields, transverse-mass and angular distributions are compared with calculations done within a transport model, as well as with existing data from other experiments. Abstract

HADES is a versatile magnetic spectrometer aimed at studying dielectron production in pion, proton and heavy-ion induced collisions. Its main features include a ring imaging gas Cherenkov detector for electron-hadron discrimination, a tracking system consisting of a set of 6 superconducting coils producing a toroidal field and drift chambers and a multiplicity and electron trigger array for additional electron-hadron discrimination and event characterization. A two-stage trigger system enhances events containing electrons. The physics program is focused on the investigation of hadron properties in nuclei and in the hot and dense hadronic matter. The detector system is characterized by an 85% azimuthal coverage over a polar angle interval from 18 to 85 degree, a single electron efficiency of 50% and a vector meson mass resolution of 2.5%. Identification of pions, kaons and protons is achieved combining time-of-flight and energy loss measurements over a large momentum range. This paper describes the main features and the performance of the detector system.

Abstract

We present phase space distributions and multiplicities of K+, K- and phi mesons produced in Ar+KCl reactions at a kinetic beam energy of 1.756 AGeV and measured with the HADES spectrometer. The inverse slope parameters and yields of kaons supplement the systematics of previous measurements. The percentage of K- mesons coming fromphi decay is found to be 18+- 7%.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of the research is to examine the existing literature on the economic foundations of agricultural crop production in Ukraine, focusing on the evolving management strategies in light of climate change challenges during the war. Design/methodology/approach: The systemic method applied to research involves an integrated approach focusing on interconnected elements within agricultural systems. The analysis was based on the official data of crops growing in Ukraine in 1991-2022, constituting a list of scientific publications. The systemic method applied to research involves an integrated approach focusing on interconnected elements within agricultural systems. Combining multiple methods provided a more comprehensive and nuanced understanding of the complex interactions between crops growing and analyzing the structure of the information about new plant cultures. Findings: The study embraced an adaptive approach, recognizing that the agricultural system is dynamic and subject to constant change. It aimed to adapt strategies based on evolving insights and feedback from stakeholders involved in the system. Research limitations/implications: The implications of this study underscore the importance of stakeholder engagement and adaptive management for effective integration. Practical implications suggest the need for policy coordination, capacity building, and innovative incentive mechanisms to foster harmonious coexistence between economic development and agricultural crops production. Originality/value: Before the war, 45 agricultural enterprises controlled a total of about 4.1 million hectares of agricultural land. Their total income exceeded 10.8 billion US dollars. The average farm in Ukraine occupies an area of 1000 hectares, while in the EU - only 16 hectares, and in Poland – 11 hectares. It is not difficult to calculate that one Ukrainian tycoon owns the area of approximately 46,000 Polish farmers. This might be a new direction in correction of modern agricultural policy. Abstract

The emission of e+e- pairs from C+C collisions at an incident energy of 1 GeV per nucleon has been investigated. The measured production probabilities, spanning from the pi0-Dalitz to the rho/omega! invariant-mass region, display a strong excess above the cocktail of standard hadronic sources. The bombarding-energy dependence of this excess is found to scale like pion production, rather than like eta production. 71. Development of royal funerary traditions along the Middle Nile Valley during the Napatan Period

Abstract

On the basis of the decoration of four decorated tombs of the Napatan dynasty of rulers in the Middle Nile Valley (7th century BC) this thesis examines the development of royal funerary traditions. These tombs show strong influence by Egyptian traditions of the same period, and the core questions of the thesis are centered on whether this Egyptianness shows a total adoption of apparently foreign funerary customs and beliefs or whether, and to which extent, Egyptian traits were adopted to express indigenous Nubian funerary traditions. This question is approached by a discussion of when and how apparently pure Egyptian traditions became indiginised in the Middle Nile Valley, and how they were adapted to a different cultural environment, where they remained characteristic for the Meroitic state, the sucessor of the kingdom of Napata. A detailed study of the scenes and spells on the tomb walls and examination of their Egyptian roots serves to isolate non-Egyptian elements, which in turn should indicate Nubian elements. The study of the tomb walls is complemented by an analysis of grave goods, especially funerary statuettes, exclusive to royal burials, and amulets, which are best suited to highlight differences between royal funerary customs and beliefs and those of commoners. The results of this analysis indicate that the higher degree of Egyptianisation of Napatan elites is only an apparent one. Access to knowledge and writing, and greater command of economic resources facilitated the grander expression of funerary traditions in elite burials. The beliefs expressed in these traditions, however, seem to have been shared by all levels of society.

Abstract

As early as 1795, immediately after the death of the young Louis XVII in his Parisian prison, the comte de Provence, brother of the late Louis XVI who had been executed in 1793, was hoping the course of history would prove him right. He opted to call himself Louis XVIII, a title which was made official nineteen years later when he became king. Proclaimed in the Déclaration de Vérone on 8 June 1795, in the midst of the Revolution, such an act implied that the Revolution was not happening, had never happened, and would never happen again. Our paper explores this new and ambivalent kind of resilience by examining three decisive moments during the reigns of Louis XVI’s two brothers, Louis XVIII (1814-1824) and Charles X (1824-1830): the First Restoration and the Hundred Days, with their curious institutional novelties and changes of hands; the early Second Restoration, when the game between the old and the new world seemed on and then over; and the first years of Charles X’s reign, when the tensions returned with a vengeance, probably climaxing in 1825 with the Compensation Act, known as “le milliard des émigrés.”

Abstract

This article examines how the counter-revolutionary writer Joseph de Maistre (1753–1821) theorizes the notion of sacrifice. For de Maistre sacrifice understood as punishment is foundational to all societies. Durkheim used many of this author's works without citing them. At the time Durkheim was teaching his criminal sociology course on punishment and responsibility as well as preparing his course on religion dealing with ‘revelation’. It is possible to explain his interests by the fact that de Maistre appears in Durkheim's core readings for theoretical ‘juncture’ that featured authors concerned with the articulation between questions of penal law and of religious phenomena. This provides additional evidence that for Durkheim religion is at the origin of the definition of the crime and of the establishment of the punishment. Résumé Cet article examine comment l'essayiste contre-révolutionnaire Joseph de Maistre (1753–1821) théorise la notion de sacrifice: pour lui, le sacrifice est compris comme une peine et il est à l'origine de toutes les sociétés. Or Durkheim fit usage de plusieurs de ses livres sans jamais les citer. Alors qu'il dispensait son cours de sociologie criminelle sur la peine et la responsabilité, et préparait sans doute aussi le cours sur la religion, dit ‘de la révélation’, il emprunta l'essai sur le sacrifice de de Maistre. On peut expliquer cet intérêt par le fait que De Maistre fait partie des lectures spéciales de ‘charnière’ théorique, qui renvoient à des auteurs se situant à l'articulation des questions de droit pénal et des phénomènes religieux repérés par Durkheim. On peut aussi, en conséquence, y voir une preuve de plus que, pour Durkheim, la religion est à l'origine de la définition du crime et de l'établissement de la peine.

Abstract

Purpose: This paper reviews the impacts of heavy metals on soil degradation and examines the influence of military equipment on agricultural lands during the war. Design/methodology/approach: The systematic research method involves a comprehensive approach focused on interrelated elements of land pollution by heavy metals during the war. The analysis is based on official data on soil contamination by heavy metals (Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Mercury (Hg), Chromium (Cr), Arsenic (As)) in Ukraine and other countries of the world during the war period from burned military equipment. Combining multiple methods has provided a more complete and detailed understanding of complex interactions. Findings: This study aims to assess the spatial distribution, concentration levels, and potential sources of heavy metal contamination in Ukrainian soils during the period of war. By employing a multidisciplinary approach encompassing field surveys, soil sampling, laboratory analyses, and geographic information systems mapping, the authors seek to elucidate the impact of warfare activities on soil quality and identify hotspots of contamination across war affected regions. Research limitations/implications: The implications of this study underscore the importance of stakeholder engagement and adaptive management for effective integration. Abstract

One of the most important fractions of soil organic matter which has significant environmental and agricultural importance is humus. The specific humus compounds of soil include the complex of amorphous organic humic substances which include humic acids, fulvic acids and humins. The effectiveness of the natural formation of active humic substances during composting processes depends on the chemical composition of organic residues and the environmental conditions influencing the development and activity of native microorganisms. The aim of the project was to build innovative composting boxes for chicken manure that allow to effectively obtain a fertilizer with the highest possible content of humic acids, by creating perfect and controlled conditions for the rapid development of indigenous thermophilic microorganisms and by combining it with the owned bio-acceleration technology. For perfect conditions (temperature, humidity, oxygen, pH) for the controlled growth of microorganisms, an algorithm of the dependence of the box operation parameters on the course of the biological process, was built. The product obtained after composting is an easily digestible complex organic fertilizer of brown-black colour, pH 7.5-8.0 and NPK 5:3:4 and a high content of native humic acids. Its use increases the growth of green mass of plants and improves soil fertility, which has been proved by the conducted pot research.
