A novel 3-D (3,6)-connected topological architecture, obtained by reacting Cd(ClO4)2 x 6H2O with Htrtr (Htrtr = 3-(1,2,4-triazole-4-yl)-1H-1,2,4-triazole) under solvothermal conditions, presents a non-centrosymmetric polar packing arrangement, resulting in a strong second harmonic generation (SHG) response and ferroelectric property.

A new, quaternary mercury and cadmium pnictidehalide semiconductor (Hg6Sb4)(CdI6) (1) has been prepared by the solid-state reaction and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Compound 1 crystallizes in the space group R-3c of the rhombohedral system with four formula units in a cell: a=13.3818(9) A, alpha=90.93 degrees, and V=2395.3(3) A3. The crystal structural novelty of 1 derives from the fact that a 3-D mercury antimonide cationic network interpenetrates with an unusual 3-D cadmium iodide octahedral anionic network through the weak covalent interactions between mercury and iodine atoms to form a mixed 3-D framework. Among them, the cationic moiety features a perovskite-like 3-D network while the anionic moiety is characterized by a 3-D I6 octahedral anionic network with two-thirds I6 octahedra being occupied by Cd atoms. The optical properties were investigated in terms of the diffuse reflectance and Fourier transform infrared spectra. The electronic band structure along with density of states calculated by the density functional theory method indicates that compound 1 is a semiconductor with a direct band gap and that the optical absorption of 1 is mainly ascribed to the charge transitions from I-5p and Sb-5p states to Cd-5s and Hg-6s states.

A metal-organic framework with the highest connectivity of 2-D topology was first assembled from an octacobalt(II) cluster as a 10-connected node and a new bifunctional ligand 1-(3,5-dicarboxy-phenyl)-4-phenyl-1H-1,2,3-triazole as a 3-connected node as well as "double bridge" linkers.

Two structural series, including seven isomorphous heterodinuclear complexes, [Ln(DMSO)4(H2O)3(mu-CN)M(CN)5].H2O ([La-Fe] (1), [Pr-Fe] (2), [Pr-Co] (3), [Nd-Fe] (4), [Nd-Co] (5), [Sm-Fe] (6) and [Sm-Co] (7)), and seven isostructural 2-D stair-like cyano-bridged bimetallic assemblies, [Ln(DMSO)2(H2O)(mu-CN)4M(CN)2]n ([La-Fe]n (8), [Pr-Fe]n (9), [Pr-Co]n (10), [Nd-Fe]n (11), [Nd-Co]n (12), [Sm-Fe]n (13) and [Sm-Co]n (14)) (DMSO = dimethylsulfoxide), have been rationally prepared by a facile approach, a ball-milling method, and characterized by X-ray diffraction and magnetic measurements. The isomorphous structures, in conjunction with the diamagnetism of the Co(3+) and La(3+) ions, allow an approximation to the nature of coupling between the iron(III) and lanthanide(III) ions in the Ln(3+)-Fe(3+) complexes. The Ln(3+)-Fe(3+) interaction is ferromagnetic for the dinuclear [Pr-Fe] (2), [Nd-Fe] (4), and [Sm-Fe] (6) systems and for the 2-D [Pr-Fe]n (9), [Nd-Fe]n (11), and [Sm-Fe]n (13) assemblies.

Three novel silver complexes, namely, [Ag5(CN)5(bipy)2]n (1) with a 1-D to 3-D architecture constructed through ligand-unsupported argentophilic interactions, [Ag5(SCN)4(CN)(bipy)2]n (2) with a 2-D interesting topology formed by cyanide groups linking [Ag5(SCN)4(bipy)2]n(n+) cationic columns, and [(Me4N)Ag3(CN)4]n (3) with 3-fold-interpenetrated 3-D 3-connected (10, 3)-g nets, have been solvothermally synthesized, and all exhibit efficient luminescence.

Objective: To investigate the effect of early invasive strategy on early and late outcomes in high-risk patients with non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndromes (ACS)., Methods: Five hundred and forty-five patients of ACS without ST-segment elevation were randomly assigned to an early conservative strategy (284 cases) or early invasive strategy group (261 cases), who were enrolled consecutively from Oct., 2001 to Oct., 2003. The combined cardiovascular events (a combination of cardiac death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, nonfatal heart failure and hospital readmission due to recurrent ischemic angina) within 30 days and 6 months were analyzed and the effects of early invasive strategy on early and late outcomes in high-risk patients with increased TnI or hs-CRP levels were evaluated., Results: As compared with early conservative strategy, early invasive strategy lowered the rate of hospital readmission due to recurrent ischemic angina of 30 d and the combined cardiovascular events of 30 d and 6 months (all P < 0.05). Subgroup analysis indicated early invasive strategy could significantly decrease the incidences of the combined cardiovascular events of 30 d and 6 months and the hard end point events of 6 months in patients with increased TnI or hs-CRP levels (all P < 0.01), but no such changes could be seen in patients with normal TnI or hs-CRP levels, as compared with early conservative strategy., Conclusions: Early invasive strategy decreases significantly cardiovascular events and improves the early and late outcomes in high-risk patients with increased TnI or hs-CRP levels.

Objective: On the basis that pinacidil can produce an "all or none" repolarization in right ventricular wall of canine, to observe the effects of quinidine on the marked transmural dispersion of repolarization. Recent studies have shown that ventricular myocardium is composed of at least 3 electrophysiological distinct cell types: epicardial, endocardial, and midcardial cells. Differences in the response of the 3 cell types to pharmacologic agents and/or pathophysiological states often result in amplification of intrinsic electrical heterogeneities, thus providing a substrate as well as a trigger for the development of arrhythmias. The study was designed to observe the right ventricular transmural heterogeneity in vitro canine heart tissue preparation level., Methods: The strips were isolated from the anterior wall of the right ventricular of canine. The preparations perfused with oxygenated (95%O(2)/5%CO(2)) Tyrode's solution. The tissues were stimulated at basic cycle lengths of 1000 ms. Standard microelectrode techniques were used. Transmembrane action potentials were recorded from epicardial, midcardial and endocardial cells respectively from right ventricular free wall of canine on different conditions [perusing with Tyrode's solution (Control), pinacidil (2.5 micromol/L), and quinidine (5 micromol/L) in turn]., Results: Compared with that of endocardial cells, the action potentials of canine ventricular epicardial and midcardial cells had more obvious spike and dome morphology. Pinacidil (2.5 micromol/L) caused a loss of the dome of transmembrane action potentials and a marked abbreviation of the action potential duration (APD) in right ventricular epicardial and midcardial cells, especially in epicardial cells, but not in endocardial cells (n = 10). With pinacidil (2.5 micromol/L), in epicardial cells, phase 2 amplitude of action potentials decreased from (117.7 +/- 9.3) mV to (71.3 +/- 6.4) mV (P < 0.01), and 90% of the APD(90) decreased from (198.2 +/- 20.8) ms to (103.9 +/- 13.5) ms (P < 0.01). The transmural dispersion of action potential duration increased from (48.5 +/- 9.2) ms to (128.7 +/- 13.5) ms (P < 0.01). Quinidine (5 micromol/L) effectively prolonged the APD abbreviated by pinacidil, restored or partly restored the dome of transmembrane action potentials of epicardial and midcardial cells but not of endocardial cells (n = 10). In epicardial cells phase 2 amplitude increased from (71.3 +/- 6.4) mV to (106.6 +/- 7.7) mV (P < 0.01), and 90% of the APD(90) increased from (103.9 +/- 13.5) ms to (185.9 +/- 15.7) ms (P < 0.01). The transmural dispersion of action potential duration significantly decreased from (128.7 +/- 13.5) ms to (54.3 +/- 10.8) ms (P < 0.01). Quinidine reduced pinacidil-induced transmural dispersion of phase 2 amplitude and the APD in right ventricular wall of canine., Conclusion: By restoring the dome and the APD of the epicardial and midcardial cells action potentials, quinidine (5 micromol/L) could reduce the marked transmural dispersion of repolarization caused by pinacidil.

A new series of novel isostructural metal chalcogenides, K(2)CuIn(3)Se(6) (1), K(2)CuGa(3)Se(6) (2), and K(2)AgIn(3)Se(6) (3), were obtained by a reactive flux technique and structurally characterized. Compounds 1, 2, and 3 crystallize in the space group C2/c of the monoclinic system with eight formula units in a cell: a = 11.445(2) A, b = 11.495(2) A, c = 21.263(4) A, beta = 97.68(3) degrees, V = 2772(1) A(3), R1/wR2 = 0.0676/0.1652 for 1; a = 11.031(2) A, b = 11.050(4) A, c = 20.808(7) A, beta = 97.71(2) degrees, V = 2513(1) A(3), R1/wR2 = 0.0301/0.0511 for 2; and a = 11.633(1) A, b = 11.587(1) A, c = 21.355(1) A, beta = 98.010(8) degrees, V = 2850.4(4) A(3), R1/wR2 = 0.0471/0.0732 for 3. These isostructural compounds are characterized by a chain-sublayer-chain slab structure. The sublayer, composed of alternative corner-sharing mixed-metal tetrahedra, is sandwiched by parallel corner-sharing tetrahedral chains. Optical absorption spectra of compounds 1, 2, and 3 reveal the presence of a sharp optical gap of 1.68, 1.72, and 1.64 eV, respectively, suggesting that these materials are semiconductors and suitable for efficient absorption of solar radiation in solar cell applications. IR spectra show no obvious absorption in the range 800-4000 cm(-)(1).
