Wahrend die Pathomechanismen allergischer Atemwegserkrankungen (wie z. B. Heuschnupfen, allergisches Asthma bronchiale) weitgehend geklart sind, ist die Rolle allergischer Reaktionen in der Auslosung und Unterhaltung des atopischen Ekzems nach wie vor umstritten. Wie in einer Art Wellenbewegung wechseln immunologische Konzepte einer „Allergie“ mit Uberlegungen uber allgemeine „Reaktivitats- oder Hautfunktionsstorungen“ als aktuell diskutierte Hypothesen ab [1, 6, 16, 20, 22, 31, 36, 43, 45].

Bei der topischen Anwendung von Arzneimitteln sind Nebenwirkungen irritativer wie allergischer Pathogenese moglich. Wahrend es bei der Sensibilisierung gegenuber Externa v. a. zu einer allergischen Kontaktdermatitis kommt, sind bei der Hautirritation zahlreiche verschiedene Formen moglich, die von der subjektiven Misempfindung uber Kontakturtikaria, Ekzem, Blasenbildung, akneiforme Veranderungen, Atrophie bis hin zur Nekrose reichen. V. a. auf die irritativen Formen der Hautunvertraglichkeit haben zahlreiche Parameter einen Einflus, deren Kenntnis wichtig bei der Therapie mit Externa und zur Diagnosestellung von Unvertraglichkeitserscheinungen ist.

In 1575, Rocco Rodio published a “Fantasia” on the hymnus “Ave maris stella” in Naples in his Libro di ricercate. In the context of the progressive contributions to music for keyboard instruments of his contemporaries Antonio Valente (1575), Claudio Merulo and Andrea Gabrieli, Rodio’s setting of cantus firmus seems nothing short of anachronistic. But Rodio’s intention lies in the implementation of counterpoint. For him, the art of counterpoint was the decisive basis of the composer’s craft. Rodio’s intention is illuminated by the circumstances of his creative activity –the academies in Naples, always eager to dispute,– and by certain events in Rome and Palermo that culminated in the appearance of the Spaniard named Sebastian Raval. The original context regarding the history of music for Rodio’s “Ave maris stella” is in the liturgical organ music by Antonio de Cabezon, Manuel Rodriguez Coelho und Jean Titelouze und perhaps by Antonio Carreira.

Twenty years ago, and still in some textbooks, allergy was regarded as a "disease of the rich," with a rising prevalence only in industrialized or western countries. This has changed: allergy has become a major health problem in almost all countries of the world, both in terms of individual suffering, medical management, and quality of life, as well as a socio-economic burden. People in Papua New Guinea or Tanzania are experiencing very similar allergic diseases and symptoms as patients from Sao Paulo, New York, Moscow, or Tokyo. Yet there are considerable differences in management, diagnostic and therapeutic modalities, and especially with regard to eliciting allergens and modifying environmental factors. Globalization is not only an economic phenomenon. In addition, the world has grown together in science and in the medical field. There is a need for more information, exchange of experience, and for a discussion forum at an international level. Allergy with its interdisciplinary character involves the expertise of various fields both in clinical medicine and in research and experimental science. Allergy manifests itself as various conditions with a colorful spectrum affecting different organs and following quite variable pathomechanisms. The World Allergy Organization (WAO), as a global federation of 74 national and regional societies for allergology and immunology, is launching the new journal "WAO Journal," addressing this need for information, exchange of experience, and international discussion. The journal will be practice-oriented and offer the highest level of information in a strictly peer-reviewed system. It offers space for reviews both at the postgraduate education as at the advanced research level, originals, and letters, where exceptional case studies, concise reports on study findings, or expression of opinions and discussion of recent topics of controversy will be published. The journal has established an excellent group of experts in the editorial board who represent at the same time the various features of clinical and experimental allergology and relevant subdisciplines and the various geographic areas of the world. The WAO Journal will reach over 30,000 allergists all over the world directly online; it will be available for free for the first year for all individual members of national allergy societies as well as nonmember subscribers. The new journal is in direct tradition grown on the basis of Allergy and Clinical Immunology International--The Journal of the World Allergy Organization, which has been the official organ of WAO for 19 years and has been discontinued by December 2007. This decision never was caused by dissatisfaction; Allergy and Clinical Immunology International--The Journal of the World Allergy Organization was one of the most successful allergy journals, at one time reaching 17,000 allergists, with editions in several languages. At this place, special thanks should go to the founding editor, Alain De Weck, and to the long-time editor, Allen Kaplan, who have done an excellent job together with Hogrefe Huber publishers, Dr Christiane Hogrefe, Dr Rob Dimbleby, and Christina Sarembe. The decision for a new journal reflects a new philosophy of publication, concentrating on the electronic way, with many advantages starting from the speed with which articles can be accepted, reviewed, and published, decreased costs, the opportunity for digital content (including videos and animation), easy searching of contents, and independence from postal services, just to name a few. Coeditor in Chief Lanny Rosenwasser and myself are eager to push "WAO Journal" to become one of the premium international journals in allergy in a truly global endeavor! Sir, According to surveys, approximately 30–50% of persons between 12 and 20 years of age with acne show psychological responses to their disease, which includes lowered self-esteem, lack of self-confidence, perceived social rejection as well as anxiety and depression (1–6). We describe here a patient with acne who suffered from a toxic dermatitis after topical application of a wart solution on his acne lesions due to an unrecognized reduction of his well-being.

Cutaneous or subcutaneous metastases occur in 2% to 9% of visceral malignancies.lm4 Their occurrence is associated with advanced disease and poor prognosis. Skin metastases are seen most commonly from carcinomas of the breast, lungs, kidneys, stomach, uterus, and colon.5a6 Carcinomas of the prostate are common7 but account for less than 1% of all skin metastases.6 We describe a patient with carcinoma of the prostate and skin metastases.

A big part of 16th century keyboard repertory was intabulated vocal music; arrangements of motets, sets of masses and chansons. Marcant and sometimes little known examples show the different functions of intabulations: repertoire for the organists (liturgical function), music of delight and pedagogical functions. As a part of Ars Organistum intabulations were the basis of professional musical studies, learning to improvise organ music and to compose music. Masters like H. Scheidemann, the both Gabrielis, J. de Lublin, P. Philips, the both Cabezóns, some English and French anonym composers demonstrate that intabulations are much more than keyboard reductions - artful arrangements with their own life and character on the way to artful paraphrases. The intentions of the composers / arrangers in connection with the possibilities of the keyboard instruments definite the character and the step of transforming a vocal set in a (new) piece of keyboard music.[de] Ein großer Teil des Musikrepertoires für Tasteninstrumente im 16. Jahrhundert bestand aus intavolierter Vokalmusik - Bearbeitungen von Motetten, Messsätzen und Chansons. Markante und teilweise wenig bekannte Beispiele zeigen verschiedene Funktionen der Intavolierungen. Zu nennen sind das Organistenrepertoire (liturgisches Umfeld), die Musik zur Erbauung und Unterhaltung und die pädagogische Funktion. Als Bestandteil der Ars Organistum waren Intavolierungen wichtig um professionell das Improvisieren von Musik und das Komponieren zu erlernen. Exemplarisch dokumentieren besonders H. Scheidemann, die beiden Gabrielis, J. de Lublin, P. Philips, die beiden Cabezóns und einige anonyme Komponisten aus England und Frankreich, dass ihre Kunst des Intavolierens weit über den Übertragungsmodus hinausgeht, bis hin zum virtuosen Arrangement und zur kunstvollen Paraphrase. Die Intentionen der Komponisten in Verbindung mit den Möglichkeiten der Tasteninstrumente prägen den Charakter und den Umformungsgrad einer Intavolierung.
