Identifying cancer drivers is a crucial challenge to explain the underlying mechanisms of cancer development. There are many methods to identify cancer drivers based on the single mutation site or the entire gene. But they ignore a large number of functional elements with medium in size. It is hypothesized that mutations occurring in different regions of the protein sequence have different effects on the progression of cancer. Here, we develop a novel functional region driver(frDriver) identification method based on Bayesian probability and multiple linear regression models to identify protein regions that can regulate gene expression levels and have high functional impact potential. Combining gene expression data and somatic mutation data, with functional impact scores(SIFT, PROVEAN) as a priori knowledge, we identified cancer driver regions that are most accurate in predicting gene expression levels. We evaluated the performance of frDriver on the BRCA and GBM datasets from TCGA. The results showed that frDriver identified known cancer drivers and outperformed the other three state-of-the-art methods(eDriver, ActiveDriver and OncodriveCLUST). In addition, we performed KEGG pathway and GO term enrichment analysis, and the results indicated that the cancer drivers predicted by frDriver were related to processes such as cancer formation and gene regulation.

Chrysanthemum Flos is the prestigious traditional Chinese medicinal material and the popular health drink. This article comprehensively evaluated the chemical constituents, antioxidant activity, and hepatoprotective effects of 25 common chrysanthemum varieties in China. Firstly, we analyzed the chemical compositions of water extracts of chrysanthemum using UPLC/Q-TOF-MS, and identified 29 chemical components. The results displayed that chrysanthemum was rich in chemical constituents, but there were significant differences in the contents of four phenolic acids and five flavonoids among different varieties, and the coefficient of variation (CVs) ranged from 35.96 % to 114.62 %. Then, the antioxidant activities of different chrysanthemums were investigated, respectively via 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS), and Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) assays. The spectrum-effect relationships between nine main components and antioxidant activities were investigated to identify the antioxidant constitutes in chrysanthemums. Meanwhile, H 2 O 2 -induced hepatocyte injury testing showed wide variation in cultivar antioxidant capacity, with Tongchengju (TCJ) producing the best effect (90.32 %), followed by Chuju (CJ; 85.78 %). In addition, the hepatoprotective effects of 8 mainstream varieties were determined by the model of acute alcoholic liver injury. They protected liver from injury by affecting relevant liver function and antioxidant indexes. Huangshangongju (HSG) could decrease aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activity by 39.27 % in liver tissue; Hangju-Fubaiju (HJ-FBJ), Jinsihuangju (JSH), and Chuju (CJ) significantly decreased the malondialdehyde (MDA) content of liver tissue, which reduced by more than 40 %; Jinsihuangju (JSH) of used for tea could double the content of glutathione (GSH) and had the similar effect on superoxide dismutase (SOD) as the positive group, showing significant antioxidant capacity. Therefore, this study confirmed that chrysanthemums are potential resources as antioxidants, functional foods, and medicinal materials. Polygonatum sibiricum Delar. ex Redoute is a plant species used for medicine and food. On one hand, its rhizomes have potential medicinal values such as enhancing immunity, anti-aging, anti-tumor and antibacterial as well as the effects of improving memory and reducing blood lipid and sugar. On the other hand, the rhizomes can also be used as raw materials for drinks, preserves, and health products (Su et al. 2018). The annual demand of P. sibiricum is about 3500-4000 tons in China, and the market demands and the price continue to rise in recent years (Su et al. 2018). In August 2019, there was an outbreak of southern blight in the P. sibiricum planting fields (N30°04'06″, E115°39'47″) of Luotian County in Hubei province of China. Approximately 30% of plants were affected in many fields (333.33 ha). We observed that the surface of the infected rhizome and the surrounding soils were covered with white hyphae and sclerotia. The hyphae gradually extended downward to the rhizomes, causing rhizome rot and leaf yellowing and wilting. Mycelial fragments and sclerotia from ten symptomatic rhizomes were collected in the fields and incubated directly on potato dextrose agar (PDA containing 50 µg/ml kanamycin) at 27℃. The fungal colonies were transferred to PDA after two days of cultivation. The white colonies were formed with fluffy aerial mycelia, which grew radially with an average growth rate of 20.54±0.52 mm/d (n=10). The color of the sclerotia was milky white at first, and then gradually turned to beige and yellow-brown. After two-week-incubation, the sclerotia became dark brown. Most of the sclerotia were spherical or nearly spherical, with round-bulges on the surface. The number of mature sclerotia produced per plate ranged from 8-23 (n=10), and the size ranged from 2.5×3.0 mm to 7.5×13.0 mm (5.95 ± 2.34×7.51 ± 2.88 mm; n=50). In addition, clamp connections were observed under the microscope. For molecular identification, genomic DNA was extracted from isolate HJ-1 using the CTAB method (Mahadevakumar et al. 2018). The internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions of rDNA were amplified with the primers ITS1/ITS4 (White et al. 1990). The resulting showed ITS sequence (Accession number: MW049362) was 99.66% homology with Sclerotium delphinii according to the GenBank database. In addition, the second largest subunit of RNA polymerase II gene (RBP2) and part of the elongation factor 1-alpha (EF1-α) gene were amplified by using the primers RPB26F/RPB2-7CR (Liu et al. 1999) and EF595F/EF1160R, respectively (Wendland and Kothe 1997). RPB2 gene sequence was deposited in GenBank (Accession number: MW415935), and was 99.53% similarity identity to Athelia rolfsii isolate MSB5-1. TEF-1α sequence was deposited in GenBank (Accession number: MW415934), and was 91.35% similarity to S. delphinii strain Sd_405. Because there are very few reference sequences of RPB2 genes from S. delphinii in GenBank to compare, we choose the ITS and TEF-1α gene sequences to construct the concatenated phylogenetic tree by the neighbor-joining method (Tamura et al. 2013). The results showed that HJ-1 was clustered with S. delphinii isolates selected from NCBI database. Based on morphological and molecular characteristics, the fungus was identified as S. delphinii Welch (teleomorph Athelia rolfsii (Curzi) C.C. Tu & Kimbr). Pathogenicity tests were performed on the healthy leaves, roots, stems and plants (n=3) of P. sibiricum. Each sample was inoculated with one sclerotia produced from a fifteen-day-old colony and there was on wound treatment. These inoculated and control samples (treated with sterile water) were incubated in a moist chamber (25 ± 2 °C, RH 85%) (Mahadevakumar et al. 2018). Typical disease symptoms were apparent on leaves, stems, rhizomes and plants at 4, 6, 5 and 15 days post inoculation, respectively. Fulfilling Koch's postulates, the fungal pathogens were isolated and purified from the inoculated site and were reconfirmed as S. delphinii based on the morphological features. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of S. delphinii causing southern blight on P. sibiricum in China. S. delphinii has a wide host range worldwide and often causes crop yield reduction. This study will be helpful for the prevention and control of P. sibiricum southern blight in the future.

Allelopathy means that one plant produces chemical substances to affect the growth and development of other plants. Usually, allelochemicals can stimulate or inhibit the germination and growth of plants, which have been considered as potential strategy for drug development of environmentally friendly biological herbicides. Obviously, the discovery of plant materials with extensive sources, low cost and markedly allelopathic effect will have far-reaching ecological impacts as the biological herbicide. At present, a large number of researches have already reported that certain plant-derived allelochemicals can inhibit weed growth. In this study, the allelopathic effect of Artemisia argyi was investigated via a series of laboratory experiments and field trial. Firstly, water-soluble extracts exhibited the strongest allelopathic inhibitory effects on various plants under incubator conditions, after the different extracts authenticated by UPLC-Q-TOF-MS. Then, the allelopathic effect of the A. argyi was systematacially evaluated on the seed germination and growth of Brassica pekinensis, Lactuca sativa, Oryza sativa, Portulaca oleracea, Oxalis corniculata and Setaria viridis in pot experiments, it suggested that the A. argyi could inhibit both dicotyledons and monocotyledons not only by seed germination but also by seedling growth. Furthermore, field trial showed that the A. argyi significantly inhibited the growth of weeds in Chrysanthemum morifolium field with no adverse effect on the growth of C. morifolium. At last, RNA-Seq analysis and key gene detection analysis indicated that A.argyi inhibited the germination and growth of weed via multi-targets and multi-paths while the inhibiting of chlorophyll synthesis of target plants was one of the key mechanisms. In summary, the A. argyi was confirmed as a potential raw material for the development of preventive herbicides against various weeds in this research. Importantly, this discovery maybe provide scientific evidence for the research and development of environmentally friendly herbicides in the future.

Purpose: Transient ischemic attack (TIA) and minor stroke had a high recurrence rate, resulting in potential neurological impairment. Only a few previous studies focused on gait and balance disorder in TIA and minor stroke. This study aimed to explore the relationship between gait and balance disorder and TIA/minor stroke., Patients and Methods: Eighty-two patients with TIA/minor stroke and fifty-two healthy control participants were recruited. The gait and balance function of the two groups was tested with six measurements (Four Square Step, Tandem, Functional Reach, Gait and Pivot Turn, Timed "Up and Go", and Single Leg Balance tests). The associations between these measures and TIA/minor stroke were determined through linear and logistic regression analyses., Results: There were no significant group differences in age, gender, body mass index, vision, and cognitive function. People with TIA/minor stroke had poorer performance in all six gait and balance measures (all p<0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed TIA/minor stroke was strongly associated with gait and balance disorder (Four Square Step Test [OR, 24.07; 95% CI 5.90-98.13; p<0.001], Tandem Test [OR, 5.50; 95% CI 1.64-18.40; p=0.006], Functional Reach Test [OR, 4.25; 95% CI 1.04-17.33; p=0.044], Gait and Pivot Turn Test [OR, 3.78; 95% CI 1.22-11.31; p=0.021], Timed"Up and Go"Test [OR, 15.79; 95% CI 2.32-107.48; p=0.005], and Single Leg Balance Test [OR, 8.96; 95% CI 2.34-34.01; p=0.001]). TIA/minor stroke patients with older age, cognitive dysfunction, high K-CRP level, and severe atherosclerosis in lower limbs were more likely to have gait and balance disorder., Conclusion: Our findings highlight the significant relationship between gait and balance disorder and TIA/minor stroke. It seems that people with TIA/minor stroke had a higher possibility to get gait and balance disorder. We demonstrate a simple three-step gold thin-film sample preparation process to enhance the morphology and lithographic precision using helium ion based direct-writing. The procedure includes metal deposition, heat treatment and template stripping, which produce smooth monocrystalline gold grains with sizes up to 500 nm and an average surface roughness of 0.267 nm. By using a helium ion microscope, we can fabricate structures with feature sizes less than 20 nm in a 100 nm thick gold film with high-quality sidewalls. We demonstrate the efficacy of this technique by producing high-quality double nanohole (DNH) nanoapertures for single nanoparticle trapping in a single grain of 100 nm thick gold. This procedure can be applied to a wide range of antenna geometries and features that need to be fabricated producing optical and or electronic devices.

Graphene is usually used to enhance the corrosion protection of epoxy (EP) coating. Graphite-like C 3 N 4 (g-C 3 N 4 ) nanosheets can be a substitute for graphene to perform good barriers for the penetration of corrosive ions. Herein, g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets were obtained via calcining melamine at 520 °C for 3 h (bulk g-C 3 N 4 ) and exfoliating bulk g-C 3 N 4 by supersonic stirring for 10 h. The EP coatings with different levels of g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets performed better corrosion protection for Q235 steel. Compared with pure EP coating, the maximum enhancement of corrosion resistance was achieved by the addition of 2 wt% g-C 3 N 4 in EP coating, with an increase of electrochemical impedance by two orders of magnitude in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution and an order of magnitude in 0.1 M H 2 SO 4 solution, as well as a decrease of corrosion current by nearly two orders of magnitude and an order of magnitude in above-mentioned electrolyte solutions, respectively. The immersion test demonstrates the good durability of 2 wt% g-C 3 N 4 /EP coating against corrosion. White Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium), a perennial herb of the Compositae family, is used for traditional medicine. The planting area of white chrysanthemum in Macheng city, Hubei Province is about 3333 ha and the annual output can reach more than 5000 tons. In 2019, leaf spot disease appeared on almost all middle and lower leaves of white chrysanthemum in most fields of Fengshumiao county, Macheng city (N31°29'57″, E115°05'49″). This county has 33 acres white chrysanthemum planting area, and most of the plants in the county were infected with the leaf spot disease. The average incidence of leaf spot disease was 65%, and incidence in some areas was 100%. In our observations, leaf spot disease can occur throughout the whole growth period of white chrysanthemum, and it will become more serious under the high temperature and humidity condition. Usually, the diseased leaves account for 30 to 80% of the total leaves on the plant. Leaf spot initially manifests as necrotic lesions on the edge and tip of the leaf, and then the lesions coalesce and gradually expand to form irregular light-brown to brown-black spots, eventually leading to necrosis and curling of the entire leaf. This disease seriously affects the growth and development of plants, resulting in the decline of yield and quality of white chrysanthemum. Ten symptomatic leaf samples were collected, the surfaces were disinfected with 0.1% mercuric chloride (HgCl2) for 3 min, and washed with sterile distilled water three times. Ten tissue samples at the junction of diseased and healthy areas (0.5 × 0.5 cm2) were cut and placed on potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium containing 100 µg/ml cefotaxime sodium and incubated in a dark chamber at 28°C. After 2 days, the hyphal tips from the edges of growing colonies were transferred to fresh PDA plates for further purification. Finally, eight isolates were obtained and these isolates were similar in morphology. The color of purified isolates was initially white to pale yellow. After six days of incubation, colonies had a diameter of 8 cm and the cultures were pale gray and starting to secrete scarlet pigment. After 15 days incubation, the colonies were grayish brown, while the backside was reddish-brown. Gray to tan chlamydospores were observed, nearly spherical, with a wart-like surface. Unicellular chlamydospores were 7.91 to 32.23 × 12.03 to 38.42 µm (n=30) and multicellular chlamydospores were 6.32 to 25.10 × 21.75 to 100.05 µm (n=30). The morphological characteristics were similar to Epicoccum sorghinum (Kang et al. 2019). The isolate FDY-5 was chosen for molecular identification. The sequence of rDNA-ITS, TUB, and LSU of the FDY-5 were amplified (GenBank MT800929, MT799852, and MT800935, respectively) (White et al. 1990; Carbone and Kohn 1999; Lumbsch et al. 2000). BLAST results showed that the rDNA-ITS sequences, the TUB gene sequences, and LSU gene sequences of strain FDY-5 shared 99% identity with the sequences of E. sorghinum (syn. Phoma sorghina) in GenBank (MN555348.1, MF987525.1, MK516207.1, respectively). Moreover, a phylogenetic tree of the LSU gene sequence of FDY-5 was constructed based on the Neighbor-Joining (NJ) method in MEGA6 software (Tamura et al. 2013) and revealed that strain FDY-5 was closest to E. sorghinum. Based on morphological and molecular characteristics, the fungus was identified as E. sorghinum. Pathogenicity tests were conducted on two-month-old white chrysanthemum plants. The upper three leaves of three plants were randomly selected for stab treatment and were inoculated with 5 × 5 mm mycelial discs produced from a fifteen-day-old colony on PDA. The inoculated and control (treated with sterile PDA disks) plants were incubated in a moist chamber (25 ± 2 °C, RH 85%). The first lesions appeared 1 day after inoculation on leaves, and the necrotic lesion area expanded outward and showed typical symptoms 3 days later. To fulfill Koch's postulates, the pathogen was reisolated from nine inoculated leaves by repeating the above isolating operation, and confirmed as E. sorghinum by morphology. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of E. sorghinum causing leaf spot on white chrysanthemum in China. E. sorghinum has a wide host range worldwide and often causes crop yield reduction. This report will facilitate the diagnosis of white chrysanthemum leaf spot of white chrysanthemum allowing control measures to be adopted to manage this disease in a timely manner. Background and Objectives: Since December 2019, the rapid epidemic spread of COVID-19 in China has aroused the attention of the government and the public. The purpose of this study is to investigate the attitude and knowledge among medical students and non-medical students toward SARS-CoV-2 infection., Methods: A web-based survey was disseminated to the students from medical colleges and comprehensive universities via the survey website (www.wjx.cn) and via WeChat. Participation in the study was voluntary with the instruction to click on the website or scan the QR code to complete the anonymous electronic questionnaire from February 5 to 7, 2020., Results: The questionnaire was completed by 588 students from 20 colleges and universities in China. Of the respondents, 66.0% were medical students and 34.0% were non-medical students. 99.6 % of the students held an optimistic attitude toward the COVID-19 epidemic situation. The majority of participants had a good level of knowledge of common symptoms, transmission, and prevention of the disease. In a comparison between non-medical students with medical students, the medical students had a deeper understanding of COVID-19. In this study, we also found that female students had a better understanding of transmission and prevention than male students did., Conclusions: The majority of students who participated in the questionnaire had a positive attitude and a good perception about COVID-19., (Copyright © 2020 The Author(s). We present a simple and facile method to synthesize nanoplatelets of 2D Ruddlesden-Popper (RP) perovskites of the type (CH3(CH2)3NH3)2(CH3NH3)Pb2I7 where n = 2. The 2D RP nanoplatelets are synthesized from bulk 2D RP crystals via a reflux pre-treatment mediated-ultrasonication method. The as-synthesized 2D RP nanoplatelets are highly air-stable even after two months of storage under an ambient atmosphere. The bulk 2D RP crystals and 2D RP nanoplatelets are characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Kelvin probe force microscopy, UV-visible spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), photoluminescence, time correlated single photon counting measurement, etc. A significant blue shift in the ultraviolet-visible absorption spectrum, high photoluminescence in the UV region, and the modified work function of the nanoplatelets indicate a strong quantum confinement effect. The quantum confinement in the nanoplatelets is further confirmed using XPS. A photodetector fabricated using these 2D RP nanoplatelets exhibits a high photodetectivity of 3.09 × 1010 Jones.

The high-temperature stress gene GrpE plays an important role in coping with high-temperature stress. The mutation of key sites of this gene can improve the high-temperature resistance of organisms. In the present study, using complementary DNAs from the silkworm fat body as the template, the open reading frame sequence of the GrpE gene (BmGrpE) was amplified and was found to be 644 bp in length and encode a protein with a predicted molecular weight of 24.1 kDa. The presence of a binding site for the heat shock transcription factor (Hsf1) at -1440 bp upstream of its coding region indicates that BmGrpE may respond to high-temperature stress. BmGrpE was constitutively expressed throughout developmental stages, with the highest level observed in the 5th instar larvae stage. Moreover, in 5th instar larvae (the 3th day), BmGrpE was expressed in all tissues examined, with the highest levels in the fat body, silk gland, and midgut. Interestingly, under high-temperature stress, TiO 2 nanoparticle treatment increased the messenger RNA levels of BmGrpE in the fat body and silk gland. After treatment with dsRNA of BmGrpE, the cell viability of BmN cells was significantly decreased under 34°C and H 2 O 2 stress (p < .05). Mutation of BmGrpE (H163L) enhanced the resistance of BmN cells under high-temperature stress. Magnetite nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 NPs) were applied in an anaerobic semi-continuous tank reactor (ASTR) to investigate its effect on the anaerobic digestion (AD) of acetate synthetic wastewater. The Fe 3 O 4 NPs corrosion could create a more favorable micro-environment to enhance the methanogens activity. The chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency and methane production in test (ASTR T ) were 31.1% and 101.5% higher than those in control (ASTR C ). With the addition of Fe 3 O 4 NPs, the concentration of key coenzyme (F 420 and M) increased from averagely 0.523 and 5.352 μmol/g-VSS to 0.956 and 9.267 μmol/g-VSS, and the content of soluble microbial products (SMPs) significantly increased. Additionally, the high-throughput 16S rRNA gene sequencing further confirmed that the percentage of hydrogen-utilizing methanogens (Methanolinea) was up to 62.6% of total archaeal sequences. Fe 3 O 4 NPs addition would accelerate electrons transfer from acids oxidizers to syntrophic methanogenesis, further stimulate acids oxidizers to decompose acetate to H 2 /CO 2 , and finally facilitate more methane production.

The massive use of fossil fuels since the industrial revolution has led to a rapid increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) in the atmosphere. What effects elevated CO 2 concentrations (ECO 2 ) have on the defense mechanisms plants employ against insects remains poorly understood. This study showed that ECO 2 of 750 ± 20 mmol/mol, increased the photosynthetic rate and biomass gain of tobacco and melon plants. However, while mass gain of Spodoptera litura, a nocturnal moth in the Noctuidae family, was higher when feeding on tobacco plants under ECO 2 , mass gain of Diaphania indica was reduced when feeding on melon plant at ECO 2 compared to ambient CO2. Plants have many mechanisms to defend themselves against insects. Jasmonic acid (JA) is a crucial element of plant defense against lepidopteran insects. Our study showed that JA levels increased in tobacco plants under ECO 2 but decreased in melon plants. It is speculated that ECO 2 changes plant resistance to insects mainly by affecting the JA signaling pathway. Nutrient analysis suggested defensive metabolites rather than changes in the total nitrogen or protein content of the plants led to the changes in plant defense levels under ECO 2 . In summary, ECO 2 affects the interaction between plants and insects. The results may provide a theoretical basis for studying the changes in crop resistance to pests under ECO 2 and predicting the impact of ECO 2 on future agro-ecosystems.

A CoP/graphene composite was synthesized through a coprecipitation and in situ phosphorization protocol using α-Co(OH) 2 and graphene oxide as precursors. The similar two-dimensional layered structures ensured evenly attached α-Co(OH) 2 nanosheets on the graphene oxide support and the formation of a sandwich-like structure. The sequential in situ phosphorization strategy not only generated a high density of ultrafine CoP nanocrystals but also simultaneously reduced the graphene oxide support. The enough exposed active sites combined with a highly conductive matrix resulted in an excellent electrochemical catalyst for overall water splitting. The overpotential is only 125 mV at 10 mA·cm 2 in 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 . Good electrocatalytic performance was also exhibited in alkaline conditions for both hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The overpotential is 119 mV for HER and 374 mV for OER at 10 mA·cm 2 in 1 M KOH. More importantly, the composite exhibited much higher exchange current densities during HER processes (1.64 × 10 -4 A·cm -2 in 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 and 2.93 × 10 -4 A·cm -2 in 1 M KOH) when compared with similar materials reported before. This low-cost, simple, and efficient approach is suitable for mass production and practical applications.

Organic-inorganic halide perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) constitute an attractive class of materials for many optoelectronic applications. However, their charge transport properties are inferior to materials like graphene. On the other hand, the charge generation efficiency of graphene is too low to be used in many optoelectronic applications. Here, we demonstrate the development of ultrathin phototransistors and photonic synapses using a graphene-PQD (G-PQD) superstructure prepared by growing PQDs directly from a graphene lattice. We show that the G-PQDs superstructure synchronizes efficient charge generation and transport on a single platform. G-PQD phototransistors exhibit excellent responsivity of 1.4 × 10 8 AW -1 and specific detectivity of 4.72 × 10 15 Jones at 430 nm. Moreover, the light-assisted memory effect of these superstructures enables photonic synaptic behavior, where neuromorphic computing is demonstrated by facial recognition with the assistance of machine learning. Objective: To explore the cerebral hemodynamic changes after revascularization in patients with hemorrhagic moyamoya disease (MMD). Materials and Methods: We retrospectively included 57 hemorrhagic MMD patients in a high-volume stroke center from January 2016 to December 2018. All subjects were evaluated with whole-brain CT perfusion (CTP) before and after surgical revascularization. Absolute and relative CTP values in the regions of cortical middle cerebral artery territory (CMT) and deep brain area (DBA) of hemorrhagic hemispheres were measured. Differences between pre- and post-operative CTP values were assessed comprehensively. The patients were categorized into subgroups based on revascularization subtypes and postoperative CTP intervals. Results: The relative cerebral blood volume (rCBV) in DBA and CMT significantly reduced in postoperative CTP ( P < 0.05). The median and interquartile range of the proportion of rCBV decrease (rCBVc%) were 7.2% (2.3-13.2%). The rCBV reduction retained statistical significant in patients who received subtypes of revascularization, and in patients with variable intervals of follow-up ( P < 0.05). There was no significant difference of rCBVc% between patients who received different revascularization and among patients with different postoperative CTP intervals ( P > 0.05). The relative mean transit time (rMTT) and relative time to peak (rTTP) also showed downward trends, but without retainable statistical significance in stratified analysis. There was no significant change in relative cerebral blood flow (rCBF) ( P > 0.05). Conclusion: In patients with hemorrhagic MMD, the CBV appeared to decrease and be relatively stable in the chronic phase after revascularization, with varying degrees of MTT and TTP shortening. This paper presents simulation results for double nanohole and inverted bowtie nanoapertures optimized to resonate in the short-wave infrared regime (1050 nm and 1550 nm). These geometries have shown great promise for trapping nanoparticles with applications in optical engineering, physics, and biology. Using a finite element analysis tool, we found that the outline length for inverted bowtie nanoapertures in a 100 nm thick gold film with a 20 nm gap dimension having an optimized transmission resonance for 1050 nm and 1550 nm optical wavelengths is 106.5 nm and 188.5 nm, respectively. With the same gap size, the radii of the circles for the double nanohole nanoapertures are 72 nm and 128 nm. The near-field enhancements of the two structures are almost the same, while the double nanohole geometries have a 20% larger full width at half-maximum than the inverted bowtie. Next, by studying the effect of changing the inner radii of the inverted bowtie corners, we found that the difference between 2 nm and 6 nm corner radii can blue-shift the optical resonance by up to 45 nm. As a result of not having any inner corners, the double nanohole structure requires less precise fabrication and therefore could potentially have a higher successful yield of nanoapertures during the manufacturing process. Lastly, we will show experimental results that confirm the optical resonance of the nanoapertures at 1550 nm. These results will enable better performance and signal-to-noise ratio in nanoaperture trapping for the short-wave infrared wavelength regime.

By using Huygens-Fresnel diffraction integral formula and the transfer matrix method, the analytical expression of radially and azimuthally polarized chirped Airy-Gaussian vortex beams through left-handed materials and right-handed materials can be obtained. We study the effects of the chirp factor and the distribution factor on the radially and azimuthally polarized chirped Airy-Gaussian vortex beams in the propagation process, including the light intensity, the phase distribution, the propagation path, the peak intensity, and the radiation force. The focal position of the beams can be adjusted by the chirp parameter.

A simple, low-cost, fluorine-free, and ecofriendly method was applied to prepare a novel superhydrophobic Zn-Fe alloy coating on the surface of carbon steel. First of all, the Zn-Fe coating was obtained in an alkaline glycerol non-cyanide Zn-Fe plating solution. Then tetradecanoic acid was grafted onto the Zn-Fe coating by a coordination reaction, leading to a superhydrophobic surface. The water contact angle was up to 166° and the sliding angle was 4°. The as-prepared superhydrophobic coating exhibited high performances, such as strong adhesion to the substrate, impact resistance, self-cleaning, antifouling, and anticorrosion. Importantly, until now, few reports focus on the use of a non-cyanide alkaline glycerol plating bath for electrodeposition, which is green, composition-stable, and corrosion-free for devices. In addition, the growth mechanism of the Echinopsis multiplex -like hierarchical micro/nanostructure of the superhydrophobic surface was studied in detail.

Silkworm (Bombyx mori) is an economic insect of the Lepidoptera. Chlorantraniliprole (CAP) exposure results in reduced growth and development of B. mori and failure in cocooning, seriously affecting the development of sericulture. To study the mechanisms underlying the damage to silkworm caused by sublethal doses of CAP, we examined the oxidative damage, the activities of digestive enzymes in midgut, and the expressions of midgut-related genes at the mRNA level. We found that CAP exposure inhibited the growth of silkworm, decreased the body mass and caused the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) [the levels of O 2 - , H 2 O 2 and lipid peroxidation (MDA) were increased by 1.62-, 1.87- and 1.46-fold, respectively]. Moreover, we also found that the midgut cells were disintegrated, microvilli disappeared, the stroma became thinner, and the chromatin of nucleus became aggregated after CAP exposure by the analysis of transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In addition, the activities of digestive enzymes were dysregulated in midgut (the activities of α-amylase and trypsin were decreased 0.69- and 0.20-fold, respectively). Furthermore, digital gene expression (DGE) profiling analysis revealed that the expressions of oxidative phosphorylation pathway and antioxidant defense system related genes in midgut were decreased, indicating that it was the oxidative damage in midgut caused by CAP that mainly affected the growth of silkworm, rather than the toxicological effects of CAP. Collectively, this study provided valuable insights into the toxic effects of CAP on insects.

Background: Neonicotinoid insecticides are widely used in the prevention and control of pests in agriculture and forestry, but they can also affect the development of nontarget economic insects. In order to determine the effects of trace acetamiprid on the development of reproductive system of silkworm, we studied the gonad development and endogenous hormone metabolism in silkworms exposed to trace acetamiprid., Result: The silkworm showed mild poisoning symptoms after being exposed to trace acetamiprid (0.01 mg L -1 ). After 96 h of acetamiprid exposure, the body weight of silkworm was decreased by 7.67% and the ovary and fallopian tube were abnormally developed. The egg production in adults was decreased by 197 ± 29, and the egg weight was decreased by 0.52 ± 0.01 mg. Quantitative RT-PCR analysis showed that the relative expression levels of ovarian development-related genes Vg, Ovo, Otu, Sxl-S and Sxl-L were downregulated by 0.71, 0.77, 0.47, 0.67 and 0.88-fold, respectively. The transcriptional expression of ecdysone metabolism-related gene (EcR) in the ovary was downregulated by 0.46-fold while the expression of juvenile hormone-related gene (JHBP2) was upregulated by 1.36-fold. In hemolymph of acetamiprid exposed larvae, the content of ecdysone was reduced whereas the content of juvenile hormone was increased., Conclusion: Trace acetamiprid may cause reproductive dysfunction in silkworms through regulating the metabolism of endogenous hormones. Chlorantraniliprole (CAP) can induce excessive calcium release from muscle of insects, causing muscle paralysis until death, and its residues in farmland can cause poisoning in Bombyx mori (B. mori), resulting in the failure of cocooning. No reports have investigated the effects of CAP exposure on detoxification enzyme activities and detoxification-related gene expression in B. mori. In the present study, we treated mulberry leaves with CAP by the leaf-dipping method, and then B. mori larvae were continuously fed with the polluted mulberry leaves. Moreover, the detoxification enzyme activities and the expressions of detoxification-related genes in the fat body of B. mori were examined. The results showed that at 24 h after CAP exposure, the activities of P450 and GST enzymes were all significantly increased, with P450 enzymes responding fastest. CarE enzyme activity was up-regulated in 24 h, and then it was decreased compared with the control group. Furthermore, the expressions of the key genes in the PI3K/Akt/CncC signaling pathway (PI3K, PDK, Akt, CncC and Keap1) at the mRNA were significantly increased. Western blotting analysis revealed that Akt was inhibited at the protein level, resulting in decreased expression of Keap1 and increased expression of CncC. These results indicated that the PI3K/Akt/CncC signaling pathway in the fat body of B. mori responded to CAP exposure and regulated the expressions of downstream detoxification enzymes, thus enhancing the detoxifying capability of B. mori., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier Inc. Global warming is known to affect the growth, development and reproduction of insects. In this study, the larvae developmental process and endogenous hormone levels under high temperature (36 °C) stress were investigated in the lepidopteran model insect Bombyx mori (B. mori). After high temperature treatment, the duration of 5th instar larvae was shortened by 28 ± 2 h, the content of 20-hydroxyecdysone(20E) in hemolymph was significantly increased, and the transcription levels of the 20E response genes E93, Br-C, USP and E75 were up-regulated by 1.35-, 1.25-, 1.28-, and 1.27-fold, respectively. High temperature treatment also elevated the phosphorylation level of Akt and activated the downstream BmCncC/keap1 pathway, and the transcription levels of the 20E synthesis-related genes cyp302a1, cyp306a1, cyp314a1 and cyp315a1 were up-regulated by 1.12-, 1.51-, 2.17- and 1.23-fold, respectively. The transcription levels of cyp302a1 and cyp306a1 were significantly decreased in BmN cells after treatment with the double stranded RNA of BmCncC (dsBmCncC), whereas their transcription levels were significantly increased (2.15- and 1.31-fold, respectively) after treatment with the CncC agonist Curcumin. These results demonstrated that high temperature treatment promoted the metamorphosis and the BmCncC/keap1 pathway played a role in the metamorphosis of B. mori. Sixteen hydrocolloids (12 carbohydrate-origin and 4 protein-origin hydrocolloids) at several concentrations were added to dough and their rheological, pasting and fermentation properties were studied. We found that 0.2-1% guar gum (GG) and locust bean gum (LBG) resulted in more strengthened doughs. But 0.2-1% pectin and konjac glucomannan (KGM) yielded weaker dough. The chemical interactions study suggested that pectin and KGM induced highest content of chemical bonds. In the fermentation studies, it was found that pectin, GG and agaric gum (AG) had positive effects, resulting in higher stability of dough pore space and gas retention. All protein hydrocolloids exhibited a negative effect on dough quality. Overall, polysaccharide based hydrocolloids with linear chain and higher viscosity have a remarkable effect on the enhancing gluten network. The interaction between hydrocolloids and gluten proteins was also crucial for dough properties, as exceptionally strong interactions caused disaggregation and instability of gluten network., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier Ltd. Panax notoginseng, an important herbal medicine, has wide uses for its bioactive compounds and health function. In this work, we compared the content of saponin in cultivation and adventitious root. The total content of saponins in adventitious root (8.48 mg⋅g -1 ) was found lower than in the native one (3-year-old) (34.34 mg⋅g -1 ). To enhance the content of bioactive compounds, we applied elicitors jasmonic acid (JA) and methyl dihydrojasmonate (MDJ) to the adventitious root culture. It was observed that the highest total content of saponins (71.94 mg⋅g -1 ) was achieved after treatment with 5 mg⋅L -1 JA, which was 2.09-fold higher than native roots and 8.45-fold higher than the control group. The findings from high-performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry analysis showed that six new compounds were present after the treatment with the elicitors. Furthermore, we found that JA and MDJ significantly upregulated the expression of the geranyl diphosphate synthase, farnesyl diphosphate synthase, squalene synthase, squalene epoxidase, dammarenediol synthase, and CYP716A47 and CYP716A53v2 (CYP450 enzyme) genes; downregulated the expression of the cycloartenol synthase gene; and increased superoxide dismutase and peroxidase activities., (© 2016 International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Inc.)

Metals are always found in the environment as mixtures rather than as solitary elements. Only a limited number of studies have developed appropriate models that incorporate bioavailability to estimate the toxicity of heavy-metal mixtures. In the present study, we explored the applicability of two extended biotic ligand model (BLM) approaches-BLM-f mix and BLM-toxicity unit (TU)-to predict and interpret mixture toxicity with the assumption that interactions between metal ions obey the BLM theory. Exposure assays of single and mixed metals were performed with inoculums of an ammonia-oxidizing bacterium SD5 isolated from soil. Nitrification of the cultures was the end point used to quantify the toxic response. The results indicated that the developed BLM-f mix approach could well estimate the single toxicity of Cu 2+ and Zn 2+ as well as their binary mixture toxicity to nitrification with >90% of toxicity variation explained. Assuming that metal ions compete with each other for binding at a single biotic ligand, the BLM-f mix approach (root-mean-square error [RMSE] = 19.66, R 2  = 0.8879) showed better predictive power than the BLM-TU approach (RMSE = 31.12, R 2  = 0.6892). The present study supports the use of the accumulation of metal ions at the biotic ligands as predictor of toxicity of single metals and metal mixtures.

In this work, we selected three fungi strains (Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus oryzae) as elicitors prepared from mycelium or fermentation broth to improve ginsenosides production in adventitious roots culture. The results showed that ginsenosides production (29.90±4.67mgg -1 ) was significantly enhanced upon elicitation with 200mgL -1 A. niger elicitor prepared from mycelium, which was 3.52-fold of untreated group. HPLC-ESI-MS n analysis was performed, showing that ginsenoside Rb 3 was present after treatment with the A. niger. Furthermore, we found that A. niger significantly enhanced accumulation of Nitric oxide (NO), salicylic acid (SA) and jasmonic acid (JA) involved in plant defense response, and significantly up-regulated the expression of the geranyl diphosphate synthase (GPS), farnesyl diphosphate synthase (FPS), squalene synthase (SS), squalene epoxidase (SE), dammarenediol synthase (DS), Two cytochrome P450 (CYP) genes (CYP716A47 and CYP716A53v2) and three UDP-glycosyltransferases (UGT) genes (UGTAE2, UGT94Q2 and UGTpg100)., (Copyright © 2016 Elsevier B.V. In the present study, the culture conditions for the accumulation of Glycyrrhiza uralensis adventitious root metabolites in balloon-type bubble bioreactors (BTBBs) have been optimized. The results of the culture showed that the best culture conditions were a cone angle of 90° bioreactor and 0.4-0.6-0.4-vvm aeration volume. Aspergillus niger can be used as a fungal elicitor to enhance the production of defense compounds in plants. With the addition of a fungal elicitor (derived from Aspergillus niger), the maximum accumulation of total flavonoids (16.12 mg g(-1)) and glycyrrhetinic acid (0.18 mg g(-1)) occurred at a dose of 400 mg L(-1) of Aspergillus niger resulting in a 3.47-fold and 1.8-fold increase over control roots. However, the highest concentration of polysaccharide (106.06 mg g(-1)) was achieved with a mixture of elicitors (Aspergillus niger and salicylic acid) added to the medium, resulting in a 1.09-fold increase over Aspergillus niger treatment alone. Electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-MS(n)) analysis was performed, showing that seven compounds were present after treatment with the elicitors, including uralsaponin B, licorice saponin B2, liquiritin, and (3R)-vestitol, only identified in the mixed elicitor treatment group. It has also been found that elicitors (Aspergillus niger and salicylic acid) significantly upregulated the expression of the cinnamate 4-hydroxylase (C4H), β-amyrin synthase (β-AS), squalene epoxidase (SE) and a cytochrome P450 monooxygenase (CYP72A154) genes, which are involved in the biosynthesis of bioactive compounds, and increased superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and peroxidase (POD) activity.

Objective: To establish the canine model of new-onset atrial fibrillation (AF) after acute myocardial infarction (AMI), and explore the relationship between new-onset AF and sympathetic neural remodeling in this model., Methods: Twenty four adult mongrel dogs were randomly divided into 4 groups by applying random number table. Group A (n=6): ligate the left circumflex artery (LCX). Group B (n=6): ligate the LCX and right atrial anterior artery and right atrial middle artery. Group C (n=6): ligate left anterior descending artery.Group D (n=6): sham operation.Sequential electrophysiology study was performed in all dogs to determine the AF induction rate, AF duration, effective refractory period (ERP), the density of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) and norepinephrine transporter (NET) before AMI or sham operation, and at 30 min, 2 hours and 4 hours after AMI or sham operation., Results: (1) The highest AF induction rate of right atrium and left auricle was 96.7%(58/60) and 95.0%(57/60) in group B, 81.7%(49/60) and 38.3%(23/60) in group A, 28.3%(17/60) and 35.0%(21/60) in group C, 20.0%(12/60) and 33.3%(20/60) in group D. (2) At 4 hours after AMI, AF duration was significantly prolonged in group B(193.50±54.67) s, compared with group A(53.83±9.37) s, group C(45.00±19.50) s, and group D(16.67±4.50) s (all P<0.05). (3) In group B, the ERP of AF was prolonged at 30 minutes after AMI and shortened at 2 hours and 4 hours after AMI compared with baseline level(all P<0.05). (4) The TH density of left atrium ((3 485±694) µm2/mm2) and left auricle((2 645±454) µm2/mm2) in group A and the TH density of left atrium ((7 873±1159) µm2/mm2) and left auricle((3 070±605) µm2/mm2) in group B were significantly higher than those in group C ((1 474±475) µm2/mm2, (1 177±277) µm2/mm2) and group D ((678±206) µm2/mm2, (489±125) µm2/mm2) (all P<0.05), and the TH density of right atrium and right auricle in group B were higher than group A (all P<0.05). The NET density of left atrium((476±75) µm2/mm2) and left auricle ((414±52) µm2/mm2) in group A and the NET density of left atrium((527±81) µm2/mm2) and left auricle((429±85) µm2/mm2) in group B were lower than that in group C ((1 044±105) µm2/mm2, (867±67) µm2/mm2) and group D ((1 438±60) µm2/mm2, (1 027±119) µm2/mm2) (all P<0.05)., Conclusions: Ligating the LCX, right atrial anterior artery and right atrial middle artery at the same time can significantly increase the success rate in establishing the canine model of new-onset atrial fibrillation after acute myocardial infarction and can also increase the AF duration.Cardiac sympathetic remodeling after acute myocardial infarction is associated with induction and duration of AF.

Objective: Detect the relationship between TPM1 gene mutations and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) of Kazaks and Hans in Xinjiang., Methods: TPM1 gene was screened from 31 family members in a Kazak family with familiar DCM (FDCM), 100 patients with idiopathic DCM (IDCM, 50 Kazaks and 50 Hans), and in 100 healthy controls (50 Kazaks and 50 Hans). All the samples were the inpatients or outpatients of First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang University from 2012 to 2014. PCR was used to amplify 9 exons and nearby introns of the TPM1 gene. The amplified products were sequenced and compared with the standard sequence with CHROMAS software and BLAST software in Pubmed to identify mutation sites. The relationship between TPM1 gene mutations in the Kazak IDCM and healthy volunteers, between Han and Kazak IDCM and healthy volunteers was analyzed. Tropomyosin was qualitatively and quantitatively detected by ELISA in all subjects., Results: A novel variant (c.524 G > T) was identified in two FDCM patients at exon 3, this mutation caused an amino acid substitution, Gln111His. The FDCM, IDCM from Kazak and Han, healthy volunteers from Kazak and Han were founded a rs1071646 (c.644C > A, Ala151Ala). There was a significant difference in the genotype distribution (χ(2) = 13.36, P = 0.001) and allele frequency (χ(2) = 10.25, P = 0.001) between Kazaks with IDCM and Kazak controls of rs1071646, while these parameters were similar between Han IDCM patients and Han controls (all P > 0.05). The tropomyosin content of Kazak and Han IDCM patients were significantly lower than Kazak and Han controls ((1 764.2 ± 350.9) ng/L vs. (2 369.7 ± 345.9) ng/L, P = 0.001)., Conclusion: TPM1 gene of rs1071646 polymorphism is a possible independent risk factor for IDCM in Kazaks but not Han Chinese.

Background: The cardiac autonomic nervous system (CANS) plays a role in the occurrence and persistence of atrial fibrillation (AF). Low-level vagosympathetic nerve stimulation (LL-VNS) has been shown to inhibit the occurrence of AF., Objective: The novel objective of this study was to compare the effects of intermittent low- level vagosympathetic nerve stimulation (I-VNS) and continuous low-level vagosympathetic nerve stimulation (C-VNS)., Methods: 19 beagles were randomly divided into 3 groups: Group A, rapid left atrial appendage pacing for 6 hours; Group B, rapid atrial pacing (RAP) for 6 hours and C-VNS (20 Hz, interval 0.1 ms, square wave) with 50% threshold voltage strength; Group C, RAP for 6 hours and I-VNS (continuously recurring cycles of 30-second ON, 30-second OFF). The atrial monophasic action potential (MAP) and the effective refractory periods (ERP) of the atrium and the pulmonary veins were measured at baseline, 1 hour, 3 hours and 6 hours after the experiment began. After the experiment, tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) and choline acetyl transferase (CHAT) expression levels in the anterior right ganglionated plexi (ARGP) from each group were measured., Results: Inter-group comparisons of MAP and ERP demonstrated that Group A was significantly different from Groups B and C (P < 0.05), while the difference between Groups B and C was not significant (P > 0.05). The MAP and ERP in Group A gradually decreased, reaching a minimum at 6 hours, but no significant changes were observed in Groups B and C. When compared to Group A, both Groups B and C had reduced TH and CHAT expression., Conclusions: During the occurrence and development of AF, I-VNS could protect the cardiovascular system, possibly replacing C-VNS. Additionally, both I-VNS and C-VNS inhibited ganglionated plexus (GP) activity during the AF prevention.

Objective: To assess the association of VKORC1 gene -1639G/A polymorphism with atrial fibrillation (AF) in ethnic Uygurs and Hans from Xinjiang., Methods: The above polymorphism was detected among 100 Uygur and 102 Han AF patients and 103 Uygur and 111 Han subjects that have no AF with polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method., Results: A statistically significant difference was detected between the patient and control groups of Uygur origin in terms of genotypic and allelic frequencies (P<0.05). Logistic regression analysis also indicated the -1639G/A polymorphism as an independent risk factor for AF in Uygur population (OR=2.085, 95% CI: 1.067-4.072, P=0.031). No similar statistical difference was found between the patient and control groups of Han origin (P>0.05)., Conclusion: The -1639G/A polymorphism of VKORC1 gene is associated with AF in the Uygur population but not in Hans.

Background: Epidemiology studies have demonstrated inconsistent associations between type 2 diabetes mellitus and the risk of malignant melanoma. To this end, the aim was to perform a meta-analysis of cohort studies., Method: Medline, PubMed, Embase and the Cochrane Library were searched up to February 2014. Cohort studies addressing the relative risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus on malignant melanoma were included in this meta-analysis. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was applied for quality evaluation. The pooled relative risks with the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were calculated by using random-effects or random-effects model. Heterogeneity and publication bias were evaluated by I (2) and funnel plot analysis, respectively. Data was analyzed using STATA 11.0., Results: A total of 9 independent cohorts from 8 manuscripts were entered this meta-analysis. Type 2 diabetes mellitus was slightly associated with an increased risk of malignant melanoma, and the pooled relative risk was 1.15 (95% CI, 1.00-1.32) in diabetes compared with non-diabetes with significant evidence of heterogeneity among these studies (P=0.016, I (2) =57.6%). For the studies adjusted for age, gender and obesity, the relative risks were 1.21 (95% CI, 1.03-1.42), 1.17 (95% CI, 1.01-1.35) and 1.11 (95% CI, 1.00-1.24), respectively. For the population-based studies in which case cohort established, the relative risk was 1.85 (95% CI, 1.31-2.62)., Conclusion: Type 2 diabetes might be an independent risk factor for malignant melanoma. Further studies are needed to specifically test the effect, and fully elucidate the underlying pathophysiologic mechanisms.

Aims: Complete lead extraction of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIED) for device-related infections remains a complex procedure for chronically implantated leads. We present data from a single-centre registry of consecutive patients with extractions over 10 years., Method and Results: Patients were identified from the centre's electronic database with CIED-related infections who underwent lead extraction using either the standard technique and equipment or a modified innovative transvenous lead technique extraction using an ablation catheter. Of 151 patients with CIED-related infections, not responding to simple manual traction to effect lead extraction, average age 65 ± 8 years (range 45-82), 64% being male, 75 underwent standard (S) extraction, and 76 underwent modified (M) extraction. Procedural, lead extraction, and fluoroscopy exposure times with S and M methods, respectively, were 65 ± 14 vs. 52 ± 6 min (P < 0.01), 56 ± 12 vs. 36 ± 8 min (P < 0.001), and 48 ± 12 vs. 31 ± 7 min (P < 0.001). Retrieval rates were numerically lower with the standard technique at 92 vs. 96% but did not achieve significance, with respective complication rates of 6.7 and 5.3%., Conclusion: In our single-centre study, a modified extraction technique to retrieve leads for infections of CIEDs using a steerable ablation catheter has improved procedural parameters over the standard technique, without compromising clinical lead extraction success rates. This may be a promising approach for a future, prospective trial.

The aim of this study was to determine the defibrillation threshold (DFT) of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) and outcomes of treatment. Sixty-four patients received cardioverter-defibrillator implantation. During implantation, the DFT was determined by the defibrillation safety margin (DSM). All patients were followed up for 12-48 months after the implantation. The overall DFT was 14.27±2.56 J and the DSM was 18.40±1.89 J. Malignant ventricular arrhythmias occurred in 42 patients following cardioverter-defibrillator implantation including 500 episodes of non-sustained ventricular tachycardia (VT) and 289 episodes of persistent VT. VT was treated using antitachycardia pacing (ATP); 265 episodes were treated successfully by a single ATP treatment (91.69%) and 12 episodes were treated successfully by two ATP treatments (4.15%). Twelve episodes were converted by low-energy electrical cardioversion (4.15%). A total of 175 ventricular fibrillation (VF) episodes were identified, of which 18 episodes automatically terminated prior to treatment. In total, 146 episodes were converted by a single cardioversion with a defibrillation energy of 13.21±2.58 J and 11 episodes were converted by two cardioversions with a defibrillation energy of 16.19±2.48 J. It is safe and feasible to determine the DFT by DSM measurement during cardioverterdefibrillator implantation.

Aim/hypothesis: Diabetes and breast cancer are both serious life-threatening diseases across the world. Some studies shows that diabetes is associated with many kinds of tumor, but links with breast cancer remain controversial. The aim of this study was to assess the association the available evidence., Subjects and Methods: A meta-analysis was conducted including 16 studies published between 2000 and 2010 and summary relative risks(RRs) with 95% CIs were calculated using random-effects model., Results: The combined evidence supports that diabetes was associated with a statistically significant 23% increased risk of breast cancer, especially in postmenopausal women (RR=1.25 95%CI 1.20-1.29). The correlation between diabetes and breast cancer was the most obvious in Europe (RR=1.88,95%CI:1.56-2.25), followed by America (RR=1.16, 95%CI:1.12-1.20). In Asia the result was not significant (RR=1.01, 95%CI=0.84-1.21). Diabetes also increased mortality from breast cancer overall (RR=1.44, 95%CI:1.31-1.58)., Conclusions/interpretation: This meta-analysis indicated that diabetes can be considered as a risk factor for breast cancer. In addition, menstruation status as well as geographical distribution can affect the relationship.

Studies have showed an association between type 2 diabetes and breast cancer in Western countries. The association should be confirmed in an Asian population which has a lower incidence of breast cancer. Our study aimed to compare the clinicopathologic characteristics of breast cancers in women with and without type 2 diabetes mellitus in China. Each group included 143 cases, similar in parity, body mass index, family history, mode of diagnosis, menarche age and hormone receptors except for progesterone receptor (PR). The diabetic patients were older, with a mean age of 58.3±10 years and the percentage of postmenopausal patients was 52%, which was higher than non-diabetic patients. Significant differences were found in tumor stage, the amounts of lymph node and with metastasis, these persisting after adjustment for age. Furthermore, a positive association with higher TNM status and PR negative rate was noticed in premenopausal but not postmenopausal diabetic patients. Our results indicate that type 2 diabetes mellitus is a negative prognostic factor for breast cancer, especially in premenopausal women.
