This learning module, provided by Support Center for Microsystems Education, introduces participants to diagnostic BioMEMS, or biological microelectromechanical systems. The module presents information about the areas in diagnostic medicine that are impacted by the introduction of BioMEMS. The following documents are included: three instructor guides, three participant guides, and a PowerPoint presentation. PDF and DOC versions are provided for all of the guides. The included guides are Primary Knowledge (PK), Research Activity, and Final Assessment. Instructor guides include additional content such as instructor notes as well as questions and answers."[The] Primary Knowledge (PK) unit provides introductory material that is needed to better understand the development of medical diagnostic devices in the area of bioMEMS." This unit includes the following objectives:Discuss examples of at least two diagnostic bioMEMS medical devices currently in use.Describe three main areas in medical diagnostics that have been impacted by bioMEMS technology.The included research activity on bioMEMS diagnostic devices has the following objectives:Describe at least one example of a bioMEMS diagnostic device and its use/purpose.Using your knowledge of diagnostic bioMEMS, describe a possible future application of a bioMEMS diagnostic device.The final assessment is used to determine participants' understanding "of the importance of diagnostics in BioMEMS applications." Ten questions are included. The PowerPoint presentation includes a unit overview, objectives, introduction, review questions, and summary. Katherine Bowlker writes to President Roosevelt on behalf of Yamei Kin, a Chinese woman who is studying at the New York Women's Medical College. Kin wishes to return to China to practice and teach medicine. Kin would like to meet with President Roosevelt, who is highly regarded in China; she will be in Washington, D.C., on February 20 for two days.

Original, bound notebook attributed to physician Caleb Edward Iddings of Sandy Spring, Maryland. Notebook contains "Memoranda of unpaid office practice upon which indulgence is granted for a short time". Entries are ordered by date and contain patients' name, service details, amount owing, and details of payment arrangements. Dated 1886-1888.

Original, bound notebook belonging to physician Caleb Edward Iddings of Sandy Spring, Maryland in which medical school notes are recorded. Dated 1854. Iddings studied Medicine at Maryland University and Pennsylvania College (later University of Pennsylvania), graduating in 1857.

Letter dated May 30, 1788 from Benjamin Rush, a physician working in Philadelphia, to Mrs. Rebecca (Flower) Young of Baltimore, concerning her son, a medical student under Rush's charge. In this letter Rush apprises Mrs. Young of her son's abilities as a physician and strongly suggests he be allowed to accept an opportunity to set up his own practice in Northumberland County. It is believed the doctor here is referring to Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.
