Treatment of phosphine oxides with nitriles usually furnishes 1,2-dihydrophosphinylation products. Herein, we developed a nickel-catalyzed 1,1-dihydrophosphinylation of nitriles with phosphine oxides to access primary amines. This reaction proceeded smoothly under very mild conditions. A series of nitriles and phosphine oxides were compatible with this conversion, and the desired products were obtained in moderate to good yields.

Polygonatum sibiricum polysaccharides (PSP) can decrease the levels of fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, and triglyceride (TG) in hyperlipidemic and diabetic animals. It can also reduce inflammatory cytokines and promote glucose uptake in adipocytes. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms of PSP in improving insulin resistance (IR) in skeletal muscle remain unclear. In this study, palmitic acid (PA) induced an IR model in L6 myotubes. After treatment, cell proliferation was measured using the CCK8. miR-340-3p, glucose transporter 4 (GLUT-4), and interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinase 3 (IRAK3) expression was measured by qRT-PCR. IRAK3 protein levels were measured by Western blotting. Glucose in the cell supernatant, TG concentration in L6 myotubes, and the levels of IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α were measured by an ELISA. We found that cell survival, glucose uptake, and GLUT-4 expression in L6 myotubes were significantly suppressed, while lipid accumulation and inflammatory factor levels were enhanced by PA stimulation. Furthermore, PSP treatment markedly alleviated these effects. Interestingly, PSP also significantly reduced the upregulated expression of miR-340-3p in the L6 myotube model of IR. Furthermore, overexpression of miR-340-3p reversed the beneficial effects of PSP in the same IR model. miR-340-3p can bind to the 3'-untranslated regions of IRAK3 . Additionally, PA treatment inhibited IRAK3 expression, whereas PSP treatment enhanced IRAK3 expression in L6 myotubes. Additionally, miR-340-3p also inhibited IRAK3 expression in L6 myotubes. Taken together, PSP improved inflammation and glucose uptake in PA-treated L6 myotubes by regulating miR-340-3p/IRAK3, suggesting that PSP may be suitable as a novel therapeutic agent for IR.

Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) FOXD3 antisense RNA 1 (FOXD3-AS1) has been reported to participate in multiple processes that contribute toward the development of cancer. The present study aimed to explore the effect of lncRNA FOXD3-AS1 on anti-estrogen resistance in breast cancer (BC) cells. FOXD3-AS1 was found to be highly expressed in BC cell lines. Moreover, FOXD3-AS1 was highly expressed in estrogen receptor-negative (ER - ) cells compared to the ER-positive (ER + ) cells. FOXD3-AS1 overexpression in T47D and MCF-7 (ER + ) cells enhanced the resistance of cells to tamoxifen (TMX), whereas FOX3-AS1 downregulation reduced the TMX resistance in MDA-MB-231 (ER - ) cells. Similar results were reproduced in vivo that FOXD3-AS1 inhibition reduced the growth of xenograft tumors formed by MDA-MB-231 cells following TMX treatment whereas FOXD3-AS1 overexpression in T47D cells facilitated tumor growth. The bioinformatic analysis and luciferase assays indicated that FOXD3-AS1 sponged microRNA-363 (miR-363) to restore expression of trefoil factor 1 (TFF1) mRNA. Overexpression of miR-363 reduced T47D cell proliferation induced by FOXD3-AS1, whereas overexpression of TFF1 restored growth of MDA-MB-231 cells reduced after FOXD3-AS1 silencing. The phosphorylation of phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (Akt) was increased by FOXD3-AS1 but attenuated by miR-363. Inhibition of PI3K/Akt blocked the role of FOXD3-AS1 and reduced the TMX resistance in T47D and MCF-7 cells. Taken together, the present study suggested that FOXD3-AS1 sponges miR-363 to upregulate TFF1 expression, leading to PI3K/Akt signaling activation and anti-estrogen resistance in BC cells.

[3 + 2] annulations of oxindole based spirocyclic donor-acceptor cyclopropanes and ynamides catalyzed by copper triflate have been developed for the synthesis of biologically important spirocyclopenteneoxindoles. These reactions tolerated a wide scope of substrates and provided the desired products in good to high yields (up to 90%) with up to >40 : 1 diastereoselectivities under mild conditions.

Although research on organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites (OIHPs) has grown exponentially in the past two decades, the high phase transition temperature of OIHP materials is still one of the insurmountable difficulties. Herein, a series of A 2 BX 4 type OIHP materials [(2, n -DFBA) 2 PbCl 4 ] ( n = 3, for 1 ; n = 4, for 2 ; n = 5, for 3 ; n = 6, for 4 ) have been prepared by reactions of double-substituted difluorobenzylamine (difluorobenzylamine = DFBA) with lead chloride in concentrated HCl aqueous solution. It was found the OIHP compounds 1 - 3 proceed a switchable phase transition with phase transition temperatures ( T c ) at 449 K ( 1 ), 462 K ( 2 ) and 500 K ( 3 ), higher than that of the parent compound [(BA) 2 PbCl 4 ] (BA = benzylammonium) at 438 K, but compound 4 exhibits no phase transition. A crystal structure analysis elucidated that the organic template ligands DFBA lead in the inorganic part in compounds 1 - 3 to a two-dimensional (2D) perovskite structure, while that in compound 4 leads to a one-dimensional (1D) chain structure. The different double-substituted positions of fluorine atoms on benzylamine have important influences on the phase transition in compounds 1 - 4 .

Background: Beta-elemene has potent anti-tumor effect, but its anti-tumor mechanism remains unclear. Chromosome 3 open reading frame 21 (C3orf21) acts as a tumor suppressor. This study tested whether the anti-tumor effect of beta-elemene was associated with modulating C3orf21 expression in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)., Materials and Methods: The impact of beta-elemene on C3orf21 expression in NSCLC cells was quantified. The stable C3orf21 silencing A549 and over-expressing PC-9 cells were established and their effects on the beta-elemene-attenuated proliferation, wound healing and invasion of NSCLC cells as well as the expression of key regulators and signal events were determined., Results: Beta-elemene significantly up-regulated C3orf21 expression in NSCLC cells. Beta-elemene treatment significantly attenuated the proliferation, wound healing and invasion of NSCLC cells, which were significantly mitigated by C3orf21 silencing, but enhanced by C3orf21 over-expression. Similar patterns of beta-elemene-modulated cyclinD1, c-Myc, COX2, MMP2, MMP9, VEGF, PTEN and Notch1 expression were detected in NSCLC cells., Conclusions: Such data indicated that beta-elemene treatment attenuated the malignancy of NSCLC cells by up-regulating C3orf21 expression. Herein, copper-catalyzed direct C-C bond cleavage of amides fused to 8-aminoquinoline as a directing group to form urea in the presence of amines and dioxygen is reported. Compared to the previous C-H aminations of amides via C-H activation, this reaction presents a catalyst and oxidant controlled C-C bond cleavage strategy that enables amidation through a radical process. CuBr/Ag 2 CO 3 /O 2 shows the best catalytic result at 150 °C. A series of aryl and alkyl amides were compatible with this transformation. Notably, this method provided access to cyclohexanone, one of the most important industrial materials. The pathway of this reaction was investigated.

Here, we used malononitrile or AMBN as a cyanating agent to develop efficient and practical protocols for Cu-mediated decarboxylative cyanations, under aerobic conditions, of aryl carboxylic acids bearing nitro and methoxyl substituents at the ortho position as well as of heteroaromatic carboxylic acids. These protocols involved economical methods to synthesize value-added aryl nitriles from simple and inexpensive raw materials. Further diversification of the 2-nitrobenzonitrile product was performed to highlight the practicality of the protocols.

1,6-Dicarbonyl compounds, representing the formal addition products of the α-position of acetophenone derivatives to donor-acceptor cyclopropanes, were synthesized in two steps via first ring opening of donor-acceptor cyclopropanes with acyclic 1,3-diketones followed by DBU catalyzed retro-Claisen-type C-C bond cleavage reactions. In the first step, acyclic 1,3-diketones selectively worked as C-nucleophiles to add to donor-acceptor cyclopropanes. In the second step, the alkyl ketone part of the ring-opening products resulting from unsymmetrical 1,3-diketones was selectively cleaved in the presence of DBU in methanol.

Objectives: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and hyperlipidemia (HL) are common metabolic disorders due to overnutrition and obesity. NAFLD is often associated with hyperlipidemia. The aim of this study was to identify and compare the erythrocyte membrane lipids profile in NAFLD patients with or without HL. Methods . A total of 112 subjects (with similar age and body mass index) were divided into four groups: (1) normal controls, (2) NAFLD alone, (3) HL alone, and (4) NAFLD combined with HL (NAFLD + HL). Lipid was extracted from the erythrocyte membrane, and lipid profiles of subjects were analyzed by liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Results . Data sets from 103 subjects were adopted for lipidomic analysis. Significant changes of lipid species were observed in patient groups, especially in the HL group and NAFLD + HL group. The HL group showed increased level of most lipid species, and decreased level of most lipid species was observed in the NAFLD + HL group. The weight percent of myristic acid, stearic acid, erucic acid, and docosahexaenoic acid also showed distinct variation between different groups. Conclusions . NAFLD, HL, and NAFLD + HL all had an impact on lipid profiling of the erythrocyte membrane. The influence of NAFLD alone is less important compared with HL. 1,3-Cyclohexandione derived cyclic ketals and thiol ketals were used as O- and S-nucleophiles, respectively, for the ring opening of donor-acceptor cyclopropanes catalyzed by Cu(OTf)2 and a series of functionalized alkylene glycol diethers and dithiol diethers were obtained in good to high yields under mild conditions.

Aromatic N -heterocycles such as quinolines, isoquinolines, and indolines are synthesized via sodium tert -butoxide-promoted oxidative dehydrogenation of the saturated heterocycles in DMSO solution. This reaction proceeds under mild reaction conditions and has a good functional group tolerance. Mechanistic studies suggest a radical pathway involving hydrogen abstraction of dimsyl radicals from the N-H bond or α-C-H of the substrates and subsequent oxidation of the nitrogen or α-aminoalkyl radicals.

Molecular ferroelectrics are attracting tremendous interest because of their easy and environmentally friendly processing, light weight, low acoustical impedance, and mechanical flexibility, which are viable alternatives or supplements to conventional ceramic ferroelectrics. However, reports of ceramic-like molecular ferroelectrics that can be applied in the polycrystalline form have been scarce. Here, according to the "quasi-spherical theory", we successfully synthesized a ceramic-like molecular ferroelectric with an m 3 m F mm 2 type phase transition at 357 K, 1,5-diazabicyclo[3.2.1]octonium tetrafluoroborate ([3.2.1-dabco]BF 4 ), which can show excellent ferroelectric performance in the polycrystalline thin-film form at room temperature. On the basis of the reported molecular ferroelectric [2.2.2-dabco]BF 4 (2.2.2-dabco = 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octonium) with an Aizu notation of 4/ mmm F mm 2 and two polar axes, we changed the [2.2.2-dabco] + cation to the [3.2.1-dabco] + cation to reduce the molecular symmetry and keep the quasi-spherical shape simultaneously, making the number of polar axes up to six. Moreover, the spontaneous polarization P s gets successfully increased from 4.9 μC cm -2 in [2.2.2-dabco]BF 4 to 5.5 μC cm -2 in [3.2.1-dabco]BF 4 . This precise molecular design strategy offers an efficient pathway to design ceramic-like molecular ferroelectrics.

Direct asymmetric synthesis of δ-hydroxy-β-ketoesters was accomplished via regio- and enantioselective aldol reactions of β-ketoesters with isatins catalyzed by cinchona alkaloid thiourea derivatives. The C-C bond formation of the reactions occurred only at the γ-position of the β-ketoesters. Reaction progress monitoring and product stability analyses under the conditions that included the catalyst indicated that the γ-position reaction products were formed kinetically. Various δ-hydroxy-β-ketoesters bearing 3-alkyl-3-hydroxyoxindole cores relevant to the development of bioactive molecules were synthesized.

In the present paper, an efficient approach for the construction of 1, N 6 -ethenoadenines from conveniently prepared N 6 -propargyl-adenines is developed. This reaction merges N -iodosuccinimide radical initiation and aerobic aminooxygenation in dioxane. This mild, 5-exo-dig , and metal-free cascade reaction could be applied to a wide substrate scope to provide 1, N 6 -ethenoadenines in moderate to good yields. The present paper describes the molecular mechanism of diosgenin on tumor microenvironment angiogenesis and the regulation of GRP78 in angiogenesis signaling pathway. CCK8 method was used to evaluate the effect of different concentrations of diosgenin on HUVEC activity in hypoxic microenvironment. Apoptosis was detected by Annexin V/PI staining. Tube Formation experiment was conducted to evaluate angiogenesis. Western Blot assay was applied to detect the expressions and phosphorylation levels of the angiogenesis-related pathways HIF-1α, GRP78, VEGF/VEGFR, PI3K/AKT, ERK, and FAK in rheumatoid HUVEC. Silencing GRP78 by siRNA interference technology was employed to investigate the mechanism of GRP78 involved in the regulation of angiogenesis. The results indicated that diosgenin can significantly inhibit the cell viability of hypoxic HUVEC and the significance is dependent on drug concentration. As the concentration increases, HUVEC activity decreases. Cell apoptosis is induced in a dose-dependent manner and angiogenesis can be significantly inhibited. The hypoxic microenvironment can significantly increase the expressions of HIF-lα, GRP78, VEGF/VEGFR, PI3K/AKT, ERK, FAK proteins in angiogenesis-related pathways, and can also enhance the phosphorylation of AKT, ERK1/2 and FAK proteins, which can be decreased by drug intervention. After silencing GRP78, the angiogenesis-related pathway proteins HIF-lα and VEGF/VEGFR are significantly reduced, thus inhibiting the activation of AKT, ERK1/2, and FAK. The anti-tumor angiogenesis mechanism of diosgenin inhibiting the expression of HIF-lα, GRP78, VEGF/VEGFR, PI3K/AKT, ERK1/2 and FAK signaling pathways may be through multiple pathways and targets, and GRP78 is involved in the regulation of angiogenesis signaling pathway.

A highly regioselective Pd-catalyzed carboxyl directed decarboxylative ortho-C-H halogenation of cheap o-nitrobenzoic acids with NaX (X = I, Br) under aerobic conditions has been established. The utility of the method has been demonstrated by the gram-scale reaction and derivatization of the product. Experimental results have confirmed Pd and Bi played critical roles in the transformation and indicated the transformation might proceed via 2-halo-6-nitrobenzoic acid derivative intermediate.

Versatile and practical Ag/Cu-mediated decarboxylative halogenation between readily available aryl carboxylic acids and abundant NaX (X = I, Br, Cl) has been achieved under aerobic conditions in moderate to good yields. The halodecarboxylation is shown to be an effective strategy for S-containing heteroaromatic carboxylic acid and benzoic acids with nitro, chloro and methoxyl substituents at the ortho position. A gram-scale reaction and a three-step procedure to synthesize iniparib have been performed to evaluate the practicality of this protocol. A preliminary mechanistic investigation indicates that Cu plays a vital role and a radical pathway is involved in the transformation.

It is known that perovskites with the general chemical formula of ABX 3 (A, B = cations, X = anion) have been intensively studied over the last half century because of their diverse functional properties, such as ferroelectricity in BaTiO 3 , piezoelectricity in PZT (lead zirconate titanate), and recently developed photovoltaic properties in CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 . However, rather less attention has been paid to their "inverse" analogs, antiperovskites, which have a chemical formula X 3 BA, where A and B are anions and X is a cation. Although most of important ferroelectrics are perovskites, no antiperovskite ferroelectrics have been found since the discovery of antiperovskites in 1930. Here, for the first time, we report a X 3 BA antiperovskite ferroelectric [(CH 3 ) 3 NH] 3 (MnBr 3 )(MnBr 4 ) (where (CH 3 ) 3 NH is X, MnBr 3 is B, and MnBr 4 is A), which shows outstanding ferroelectricity with a significantly high phase transition temperature of 458 K as well as fascinating photoluminescence properties with two intense emissions. This finding opens a new avenue to explore the golden area of antiperovskites for high-performance functional materials.

A selective phosphoramidation and phosphonation of benzoxazole was developed with trialkyl phosphites in the presence of iodine under mild conditions. In the reaction, the transformation completes in 10 min at room temperature and the substrates are well tolerant, as 2-substituted azoles could afford the quaternary carbon-centered products. Significantly, phosphites could be selectively introduced into the C- and N-positions of the benzoxazoles by controlling the addition sequence and the ratio of substrates.

A series of pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine derivatives related to allopurinol has been synthesized and evaluated for its cytotoxicity against a panel of three cancer cell lines as well as its xanthine oxidase (XOD) inhibitory activities. Among them, compound 4 showed potent cytotoxicity with IC50 values of 25.5 and 35.2 μM against human hepatoma carcinoma cell lines, BEL-7402 and SMMC-7221, respectively. The anticancer activity of 4 was comparable to that of Tanespimycin (17-N-allylamino-17-demethoxy geldanamycin, 17-AAG) that inhibited the growth of BEL-7402 and SMMC-7221 cells at IC50 values of 12.4 and 9.85 μM, respectively. However, unlike allopurinol, which is also a strong inhibitor of XOD, compound 4 is a much weaker XOD inhibitor, suggesting that the anticancer activities of the allopurinol derivatives may not be associated with XOD inhibition. Moreover, the cytotoxicity of 4 toward normal cells is significantly lower than that of 17-AAG, making 4 a promising lead compound for further optimization of structure-activity relationships that may lead to anticancer agents of clinical utility.

Simple strategies for decarboxylative functionalizations of electron-deficient benzoic acids via using Cu(I) as promoter and electron-rich ones by employing Pd(II) as catalyst under aerobic conditions have been established, which lead to smooth synthesis of aryl halides (-I, Br, and Cl) through the decarboxylative functionalization of benzoic acids with readily available halogen sources CuX (X = I, Br, Cl), and easy preparation of benzonitriles from decarboxylative cyanation of aryl carboxylic acids with nontoxic and low-cost K4Fe(CN)6 under an oxygen atmosphere for the first time.

A water-soluble polysaccharide (MCP) was isolated from the fruits of Momordica charantia L., and the hypoglycemic effects of MCP were investigated in both normal healthy and alloxan-induced diabetic mice. MCP was orally administered once a day after 3 days of alloxan-induction at 100, 200 and 300mg/kg body weight for 28 day. Results showed that fasting blood glucose level (BGL) was significantly decreased, whereas the glucose tolerance was marked improvement in alloxan-induced diabetic mice, and loss in body weight was also prevented in diabetic mice compared to the diabetic control group. The dosage of 300mg/kg body weight exhibited the best effects. In addition, MCP did not exhibit any toxic symptoms in the limited toxicity evaluation in mice. The results suggest that MCP possess significantly dose-dependent anti-diabetic activity on alloxan-induced diabetic mice. A copper-mediated tandem reaction of β-ketoesters/ketones with tertiary amines was achieved, which provides a simple and efficient approach to the synthesis of 2,3-dihydrofuran derivatives. In this tandem reaction, the tertiary amine not only offers the methylene moiety but also serves as the base.

Cu(II)-mediated autoxidations of 4-tert-butylphenol under various conditions was studied, the data confirmed imidazole is the best ligand to promote phenol oxygenation. The same reaction of 2,4-di-tert-butylphenol proceeded much more quickly to lead nearly exclusively to oxidative coupling rather than oxygenation under high pressure O2. These results suggested that Cu(II)-catalyzed phenol autoxidation by activating O2 and phenol in terms of a phenoxy radical (ArO)-Cu(II)-superoxide ternary complex, whereas selectivity between oxygenation and coupling depends mainly on the electronic structure of ArO. It is appeared that CuAOs could achieve stoichiometric tyrosine monooxygenation by modulating the redox potential of Cu(II) and stabilizing the ternary complex through protein conformational adjustment., (Copyright © 2015 Elsevier Inc. Goitrogenesis in Graves' disease (GD) has been attributed to anti-TSH receptor antibody stimulation. Recently, a role for adenosine A2a receptor (A2aR) in goiter formation was reported in the thyroglobulin-A2aR transgenic mice. However, it is unclear whether A2aR is expressed in the thyroid and whether it is associated with the pathogenesis of goiter in GD. Here, we confirmed the expression of A2aR in FRTL-5 cells, primary normal human thyrocytes (both sexes were used without regard to sex), and thyroid tissue (both sexes were used without regard to sex) by PCR, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence. After treatments with A2aR-specific agonist 2-p-(2-Carboxyethyl)phenethylamino-5'-N-ethylcarboxamidoadenosine or GD IgG, the mRNA and protein levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a growth factor related to goitrogenesis, were evaluated along with upstream signaling pathways. A2aR activation and GD IgG promoted the expression of VEGF in thyrocytes, which was accompanied by the activation of cAMP/protein kinase A/phosphorylated-cAMP-response element-binding protein, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ coactivator-1α, and hypoxia-inducible factor-1α. The changes induced by GD IgG were partially abrogated by A2aR small interfering RNA and an A2aR antagonist. These results were supported by data on the goiter samples from the thyrotropin receptor adenovirus-induced GD mouse model (female). These data demonstrate that GD IgG could up-regulate the VEGF expression through A2aR, indicating a potential mechanism for goitrogenesis in GD.

GsCBRLK (calcium/calmodulin-binding receptor-like kinase from Glycine soja) links ABA (abscisic acid)- and salt-induced calcium/calmodulin signal in plant cells. In order to study the molecular mechanisms of GsCBLRK, the salt-treated Glycine soja cDNA library was screened with pBT3-STE-CBRLK as bait plasmid using yeast two hybrid system. Two positive clones (SNARE and 14-3-3 protein) were identified by constructing cDNA library of wild soybean under salt treatment, membrane system yeast two hybrid screening, multiple screen, rotary validation, bioinformatic analysis and interaction identification in yeast.

M(NMe2)4 (M = Zr, 1a; Hf, 1b) and the silyl anion (SiButPh2)- (2) in Li(THF)2SiButPh2 (2-Li) were found to undergo a ligand exchange to give [M(NMe2)3(SiButPh2)2]- (M = Zr, 3a; Hf, 3b) and [M(NMe2)5]- (M = Zr, 4a; Hf, 4b) in THF. The reaction is reversible, leading to equilibria: 2 1a (or 1b) + 2 2 <--> 3a (or 3b) + 4a (or 4b). In toluene, the reaction of 1a with 2 yields [(Me2N)3Zr(SiButPh2)2]-[Zr(NMe2)5Li2(THF)4]+ (5) as an ionic pair. The silyl anion 2 selectively attacks the -N(SiMe3)2 ligand in (Me2N)3Zr-N(SiMe3)2 (6a) to give 3a and [N(SiMe3)2]- (7) in reversible reaction: 6a + 2 2 <--> 3a + 7. The following equilibria have also been observed and studied: 2M(NMe2)4 (1a; 1b) + [Si(SiMe3)3]- (8) <--> (Me2N)3M-Si(SiMe3)3 (M = Zr, 9a; Hf, 9b) + [M(NMe2)5]- (M = Zr, 4a; Hf, 4b); 6a (or 6b) + 8 <--> 9a (or 9b) + [N(SiMe3)2]- (7). The current study represents rare, direct observations of reversible amide-silyl exchanges and their equilibria. Crystal structures of 5, (Me2N)3Hf-Si(SiMe3)3 (9b), and [Hf(NMe2)4]2 (dimer of 1b), as well as the preparation of (Me2N)3M-N(SiMe3)2 (6a; 6b) are also reported.

Silyl anion SiButPh2- (2) was found to substitute an amide ligand in Zr(NMe2)4 (3) to give the disilyl complex Zr(NMe2)3(SiButPh2)2- (1a) and Zr(NMe2)5- (1b) in THF. The reaction is reversible, and nucleophilic amide NMe2- attacks the Zr-SiButPh2 bonds in 1a or Zr(NMe2)3(SiButPh2) in the reverse reaction, leading to an unusual ligand exchange equilibrium 2 3 + 2 2 right harpoon over left harpoon 1a + 1b (eq 1). The silyl anion 2 selectively attacks the -N(SiMe3)2 ligand in Zr(NMe2)3[N(SiMe3)2] (6) to give 1a and N(SiMe3)2- (7). Reversible reaction occurs as well, where 7 selectively substitutes the silyl ligand in Zr(NMe2)3(SiButPh2)2- (1a) or Zr(NMe2)3(SiButPh2), giving the equilibrium 6 + 2 2 right harpoon over left harpoon 1a + 7 (eq 3). The thermodynamics of these equilibria has been studied: For eq 1, DeltaH degrees = -8.3(0.2) kcal/mol, DeltaS degrees = -23.3(0.9) eu, and DeltaG degrees 298K = -1.4(0.5) kcal/mol at 298 K; for eq 3, DeltaH degrees = -1.61(0.12) kcal/mol, DeltaS degrees = -2.6(0.5) eu, and DeltaG degrees 298K = -0.8(0.3) kcal/mol. In both equilibria, the enthalpy changes for the forward reactions outweigh the entropy changes, and therefore the substitutions of amide ligands in Zr(NMe2)4 (3) and Zr(NMe2)3[N(SiMe3)2] (6) to afford the disilyl complex 1a are thermodynamically favored. The following equilibria were also observed and studied: Zr(NMe2)3[N(SiMe3)2] (6) + Si(SiMe3)3- (9) right harpoon over left harpoon Zr(NMe2)3[Si(SiMe3)3] (10) + N(SiMe3)2- (7) and Zr(NMe2)4 (3) + 9 right harpoon over left harpoon 10 + Zr(NMe2)5- (1b).

Reactions of Ta(NMe2)5 with D2SiR'Ph (R' = Me, Ph) were found to give a dideuteride eta 2-imine complex (Me2N)3Ta(mu-D)2(mu-N-eta 2-N,C-CH2NMe)Ta(NMe2)3(1-d2) through C-H activation of an amide ligand via beta-H abstraction, and the structure of 1 was confirmed by single crystal neutron and X-ray diffraction.
